Bought 2015 Mercedes ML 350 (everything same as W212, engine, transmission) with 48k miles in 2019. Right now has 101k miles, no issues at all except thermostat ($300 oem part and $150 labor) and that’s it
Thank you for your excellent guidance! I just bought the Mazda CX-5. Not the turbo but sure hoping this 36K mile vehicle will go the distance… I keep my cars till they just won’t go anymore 😂 I hate car shopping that much!
A family member bought a 2024 Jeep Wrangler ($73K) had an electrical problem already, it was repaired, under warranty minor issue, but not off to a good start. I like my naturally aspirated 2022 Toyota Tacoma V-6 (non-turbo). Hopefully, Toyota has maintained its reliability and has not fallen to the new "standard" of Stellantis and German dump buckets.
I have an Audi A5 45 coupe, and you are right - they are decked out beautifully. And the Band and Olufsen sound system is phenomenal, much better than HK. There's a way to defeat start/stop system with a push of a button, something you can't do in modern BMWs. Hopefully, it's reliable, I only have 6000 miles on it.
My mom bought an RX in 2000, and it's still running 24 years later. Now it's had its problems, and the engine has been rebuilt, but still a better track record than most other vehicles if you ask me.
You did an extensive review on a variety of vehicles. You provided the good & the bad with each. Well done. Thank you. No one come close give this level of detail. Thank you!
Ridgelines are amazing. A few of my friends have them and they love them. Drive comfortable and have a great engine. Not sure why I ever made fun of them. I was wrong about them. I highly recommend them now.
To be Fair Honda updated many things about the Ridgeline over the Years for example, Heavier wheel bearings and Better trans, So far at 45,000 miles we really like ours, I personally changed all the Trans and drive fluids at 32,000 miles made a difference in smoother Shifts from the 9 speed ZF.
I was ex ited for the CX70/90, but recently found reviews saying many services require an engine pull. They made these very complicated. Only time will tell how long it takes for them to fail, and it will be really expensive when they do. They also made some comprimises on the suspension compared to the outgoing cx9.
@ECPP Thank you for your videos. As someone that has done so much research.... what vehicles have you personally owned for longer than 1 year in the last ten years? Thank you!
Hey man Ive been watching you for a while and you really are a top reason I purchased my Jaguar f type , but do you know why my Jaguar f type v6 is having excessive smoke coming out tail pipe and water down coolant , just took it into dealship and they said I got no coolant leaks and the car is fine but I changed the oil and it looked like mud.. am I stuck paying 600$ for a failed diagnostic and a broken Jaguar? (67,000 miles) I am part of the youth second hand jaguars and it’s been quite a journey I shall say.. I’ve had it for 8 months and drove it for only 3 because so much time in shop.. what should I do I think it’s head gasket but they’re telling me the test are good .. ugh.

He is wrong. The N55 was absolutely a powerful workhorse and very reliable statistically. Especially the 2014 and up variants which you have. Be sure to change the oil every 3 -5k miles. Do NOT do 8000 or 10000 mile intervals.
He's recommending the Camry. I owned one for over ten years.. ok, I owned several in ten years. I recently traded it out for a Subaru Outback. The Outback is way more comfortable!
Both are great cars, of course he will recommend the camry cause it's a very reliable toyota with very few issues, sure it may not be the most cozy but that's why it's affordable.

Volvo has gone downhill lately, and Volvos today are not what they used to be. I think I’ll be buying japanese from now on.
Amazing video. I really enjoyed it. I wish if you can do one about best cars to perform in snow winter. I believe Land cruiser or its sister Lexus 450 are the best but they will break your bank with their fuel consumption plus their purchase price 😁
Powerful review. Almost a cram session. I agree with most, but having done Audi Customer Follow-up...😔 My focus today has gone from ICE to Hybrid ONLY. The only other alternative is converting our 2020 Lexus to hybrid, down the road. I love that UX. At $10k, to do an ICE to Hybrid conversion, may be the way to go, if you have a long term keeper (and we keep all our Lexi for 200+k miles).

I agree with every other appraisals in this review completely...especially the Land Rovers. I can't tell you how many LR trade-in customers I told, "If it was a horse, l'd just put it out of its misery, right here in this lot!" Nobody ever laughed at that opening. A few got teary eyed.
What a great video Mark! Super helpful! I m leaning toward UX for the city. Love the Audi SQ, but if America release the RS3 sportback, I would def go for it! Keep it up Mark, will keep on supporting your channel bro!
Hello there. Last week a bough a 2024 BMW X3M, and now I have to work an extra hour to be able to afford it. Is it worth it, how is the reliability? Thank you.
Love your channel and sense of humour Mark. I've got an Audi A4 2006 with a CVT that's killed me in repairs. I believe Lexus is my next car thanks to your videos. Please keep up the great work and that sense of humor lol
Just subscribed and moved over from your truck channel. Honda Civic Sport, like the one you pointed out at 1:23:30 is $ 32, 716. in Canada and the price does NOT include whatever taxes you may have to pay depending on the province you live in. For me in Ontario, I have to add 13% tax which makes the selling price $36,969.08. Not exactly a cheap little car. Would love to know where you found a new Honda Civic basic for $23,450 ? Honda Canada's basic Civic starts at $ 28,756 + tax = $32,494. Definitely not under $ 25,000. You stated that basically Honda has great cars despite a few hiccups, except you spent an entire video a couple of months ago tearing Honda down saying how the new ones are unreliable and their reliability has fallen down to 15th from first or 2nd place . At 56:54 ,A Honda, the " reliability king next to a Toyota or Lexus"❗PLUS, " Honda, they know how to build reliability" . Which is it, UNRELIABLE OR RELIABLE ⁉ BTW, Honda is known for their CVT engines being better than most . At 56:10 you showed a Honda CR-V with a price tag seen hanging from the visor showing the price at $37,988 and you said the price ranged from $24,000 -$ 35,760. Where can you get a Honda CR-V in Feb 2024 starting at $24,000 in Canada ?
Got my daily mazda cx9 3.7l FWD no transfer case auto Great car .sooo reliable but want a prestige audi q5 or q3 as well .May bite rhe bullet soon as can afford easy 2017 and above
I went with a 2024 Chevy Express Cargo van 6.6 V8 as it's about the last V8 cargo van you can find.. and then a 2010 Lexus LS460 as Im all about powerful V8 engines that are very reliable. The Van I hope will pay for a Lexus LC500 or ISF500 with 5.0 naturally inspired engine car..
Love your vids. Can you give a opinion on if the new Lexus GX 550 will hold its value? Thinking of picking one up thos spring. Im told 4Runner is the way to go buy dont wanna wait
Honestly if you are worried about holding value, you don't want a new car. All new cars lose value after driving off the lot. It's better to buy a lightly used car a few years older for way below retail.
Damn ! Tough Pics, BMW, "Black Mamba World" Or "Bob Marley World" ?! One Has A New Movie & One Has A New Statue. Both Are Legends. But Once Again It's Lexus For The Win !! 🏆. Literally A Long Legendary Lineup, Thanx Mark ! 👏💯
I’ve been saying it for 7 years, that the B58 was gonna be the golden child of BMW. Once I seen the design and build of the engine when announced, I knew it was gonna be a game changer. Only BMW engine i recommended. ZF 8speed is also amazing.
ECCP - you were just saying in a video a month or so ago how horrible the Q3 was. Water leaks, wind noise, and stretched timing chains. Now it’s one of the most reliable??
Hey! My understanding is that cylinder deactivation in the Skyactiv Mazda engines is only in the non-turbo engines. Plus, the non-turbo engines (2.5L) have been having issues with cracked cylinder heads.
I have 2 Mazdas with the 2.5 non turbo. One with 120,000 miles and the other with 40,000 absolutely flawless. Cylinder deactivation is unnoticeable in the one that has it. I follow the forums and there are extremely few problems these vehicles.
Very comprehensive and sadly accurate for so many stinkers. The F-150 is the most disturbing development, considering the F-150 is the "bread & butter" sales leader for many decades. Especially notable is that all F-150's are built exclusively in the USA (So much for "Quality built American vehicles"). Glad you were honest about the Hyundai/Kia balls of rolling fire, time bombs. And I run when l hear Mercedes SUV followed by the letters GL, GLA, GLB, GLK... Thanks for your wakeup call amid this sea of flashy ads promoting vehicles l wouldn't sell to an ex-wife.😮
@@ECPP Guilty! I depended on the advice of a family member to buy a kia. Didn't do my own homework. Has been nothing but problems from the start. With about 5k of repairs in 3 years. Serious dangerous issues that thankfully didn't happen on a highway. Never will buy anything that is parked near a kia again. Thanks so much for the work you do for us! You are helping me with my homework now.
@@ECPP New comment....Can't thank you for your channel enough. I bought today after watching a ton of your videos. I recommended you to family members as well! tysm
I'm thinking of buying an upcoming Cadillac Escalade IQ (electric(. I know other electric Cadillacs lose value like crazy and that would probably happen to IQ as well. What do you think of that SUV?
The B58 engine may be ok but it’s all the add ons that will crap out. Plastic parts and complicated things. If the water pump fails I think the engine has to come out to replace it. I chose a top spec CX5 turbo. If it shits itself I will dump it and buy something else. Maybe another CX5 or an NX.
I started doing a little research on comments this guy makes, and it turns out he knows what he speaks of. I get a little tired of looking at his in-your-face, but I've never done any videos so hey, that's not a reason enough to not listen. Specifically, I looked up the BMW engines, and he's right about known problems that have shown up over years of on-the-street use. I would imagine it's hard to test for those problems, so not so much a design oversight, but things that only many miles of varied driving would reveal. BMW has made changes in their most recent V8's to address those problems, but there you're paying MSRP, and the newer engines don't have 50K miles on them, so .... I don't know much about frames and engines, which is why I'm here.
G-Wagon or G-Class Merc is probably the best off road jeep that is, better than Wrangler. It's traction and power, and reliability is just... Whistling Diesel proved it :D
So I have an x5 diesel. Reliability ? Dealer recalled the EGR cooler and Edmonton bmw would not honour the service because I didn’t buy it from them. I had to put in a complaint with bmw corporate to get recall work done. When I got it back the dog bracket want put in and all that weight on the turbo made the DOF brake at the flange to the turbo. Bmw would not repair it. Wanted $9000 for the part. I deleted all emissions after that. Things I have replaced in five years. Rear air bags. Brakes and rotors. Def delete Couple plastic hoses that cracked. Zu transmission pan and filter. Couple of fog lights from rocks. All parts bought from FCP because parts here are a rip off. B58 or s58 for next bmw or would go to Lexus.
I have a 2014 Audi A4. At 90k miles it started going thru oil. Now at 166k it goes thru a quart every 800 miles. I've had the intake cleaned twice for carbon build up and had a air valve replaced due to carbon. All while using premium Chevron gas. I don't think audi is reliable. I had a 1990 Mitsubishi ishi eclipse that was parked in a surface lot in Chicago for 9 of the last 10 years that went to 120k when I donated it. This Xara was back on the road in a couple of months because I got a call later from the police thinking it was stolen.
50k and some change to get into a base Macan… I recently saw one of your videos where Jeep is asking 47k for a Compass 🤦♂️ The math isn’t ‘mathing’ Make it make sense
The BMW X5 does not have fake tail pipes they are a aluminum shell surrounding the actual tailpipe which is spewing out black soot which is all over the aluminum frame. Proving that that round pipe inside of the rectangle is the real exhaust
What about the 2024 Lexus GX??? This video published in February 2024 but you covered the 2023 GX, and the 2024 GX has been redesigned from the ground up
Damn hope my Hyundai Elantra last somewhat long… I had a Toyota Corolla and it kept giving me problems but I think I might have been unlucky with that one

Which X5 model years have the B58 engine? And how to you find out what engine is the model year equipped with?
X5 40i from the current generation (starting from 2019) has B58. Wikipedia has good info on which model has which engine.
I would recommend 2020 model years and later, X5 40i only. 2019 had some issues that were ironed out in 2020.

You have the LX600 in the do not buy video and in the buy video. Which is it?
Generally a good bet but since things have transpired with the 3.4 main bearing issues, that would be a no go at this point. Timing of then videos
Hello there. Last week a bough a 2024 BMW X3M, and now I have to work an extra hour to be able to afford it. Is it worth it, how is the reliability? Thank you.
What’s years models is he talking about?.
What is your opinion on the Mercedes E class?
Any thoughts on the 2024 Broncos? I've been eyeing them for a while
Love your channel and sense of humour Mark. I've got an Audi A4 2006 with a CVT that's killed me in repairs. I believe Lexus is my next car thanks to your videos. Please keep up the great work and that sense of humor lol
Would some one post a list of cars mentioned !!
Which is it, UNRELIABLE OR RELIABLE ⁉
BTW, Honda is known for their CVT engines being better than most .
At 56:10 you showed a Honda CR-V with a price tag seen hanging from the visor showing the price at $37,988 and you said the price ranged from
$24,000 -$ 35,760. Where can you get a Honda CR-V in Feb 2024 starting at $24,000 in Canada ?
Those GX are amazing. I want to get one but at 16mpg... I don't know lol
great video. how long did it take you to make and edit the video ?
A long time, tbh
Got my daily mazda cx9 3.7l FWD no transfer case auto Great car .sooo reliable but want a prestige audi q5 or q3 as well .May bite rhe bullet soon as can afford easy 2017 and above
I went with a 2024 Chevy Express Cargo van 6.6 V8 as it's about the last V8 cargo van you can find.. and then a 2010 Lexus LS460 as Im all about powerful V8 engines that are very reliable. The Van I hope will pay for a Lexus LC500 or ISF500 with 5.0 naturally inspired engine car..
Just got me a used almost new 2021 x5 xdrive40i m sport under 20,000 miles coming from a 2010 x5 xdrive30i m sport
How much did you pay for her?
I’m on market for same X5
Excellent video 👍🏾
Is a used 2016 cx 5 with 160k a good purchase? One owner with only dealership maintenance asking 10k rn😊
Aren't the Ten speed Transmission on the Lincoln Navigator & F150 Problematic..?
Love your vids. Can you give a opinion on if the new Lexus GX 550 will hold its value? Thinking of picking one up thos spring. Im told 4Runner is the way to go buy dont wanna wait
Honestly if you are worried about holding value, you don't want a new car. All new cars lose value after driving off the lot. It's better to buy a lightly used car a few years older for way below retail.
Any Lexus that has come off lease or dealer loaner cars. Preloved.
Thanka very much Don
B58! 💪🏾
That’s a great engine
I’ve been saying it for 7 years, that the B58 was gonna be the golden child of BMW. Once I seen the design and build of the engine when announced, I knew it was gonna be a game changer.
Only BMW engine i recommended. ZF 8speed is also amazing.
I have owned many FIATS here in Brasil with zero problems, they are all 5 speeds here
Engines varied from a 1.0 16v to a 1.4 8 v, ZERO PROBLEMS
What is the best small car to buy that last for a long time?
Mazda 3, Toyota Corolla, Honda Civic with manual transmission
ECCP - you were just saying in a video a month or so ago how horrible the Q3 was. Water leaks, wind noise, and stretched timing chains. Now it’s one of the most reliable??
IDK why he waffles back and forth on some cars
Please advise between Infiniti Q70 and Audi A5 2012-2016 which one is reliable
If I was forced to pick between the two, I would go for the infiniti, japanese over german any day.
This was terrific Mark !! Just picked up an B9/ S4. Now I feel better … lol .
Thanks for watching Ken. Have a great one. The car is a lot of fun too.
Great cars.
Which HP version of the BMW 4.0i engine? The old or the new (which has more HP) or either one is equally reliable?
The 4.0i engine is one of bmws safest engines..the older 4.4 V8 was problems on top of problems..😅
3:56 Only the hybrid version from the previous generation has over 300 HP but the regular RX 350 has 295 HP
best welcome in 2024 🎉
Cheers and welcome to the channel
Haha indeed, many people just buy without doing there honework. It’s bizarre how some of this junk still sells.
What do you think of that SUV?
what about the CLA45S or A45S? you said in a previous comment that you were going to make a video about these cars
We will certainly get to that chat indeed
thanks and im looking forward to it!@@ECPP
The B58 engine may be ok but it’s all the add ons that will crap out. Plastic parts and complicated things. If the water pump fails I think the engine has to come out to replace it.
I chose a top spec CX5 turbo. If it shits itself I will dump it and buy something else. Maybe another CX5 or an NX.
Mazdas are quite reliable these days
Once again great job
I like it when you say the exhaust is fake but it ok😅
This video clearly took a lot of work. Appeciate the industry wrap up Mark. Perhaps make this an annual thing
You put the Lexus RC behind you in the thumbnail. I thought you’d list it as a reliable coupe.
What about subaru legacy and outbacks from 2021 and up?
Here and thanks
Thanks for coming
Any insightful info on VW 2024 atlas
What is your opinion on toyata highlander?
@24:30 - Audi does station wagons cool and fun... A4 and A6 Avants are cool.
G-Wagon or G-Class Merc is probably the best off road jeep that is, better than Wrangler. It's traction and power, and reliability is just... Whistling Diesel proved it :D
Exactly
Make a vedio about reliable new cars
So I have an x5 diesel. Reliability ? Dealer recalled the EGR cooler and Edmonton bmw would not honour the service because I didn’t buy it from them. I had to put in a complaint with bmw corporate to get recall work done.
When I got it back the dog bracket want put in and all that weight on the turbo made the DOF brake at the flange to the turbo. Bmw would not repair it. Wanted $9000 for the part. I deleted all emissions after that.
Things I have replaced in five years.
Rear air bags.
Brakes and rotors.
Def delete
Couple plastic hoses that cracked.
Zu transmission pan and filter.
Couple of fog lights from rocks.
All parts bought from FCP because parts here are a rip off.
B58 or s58 for next bmw or would go to Lexus.
Great choice in next cars and thanks very much for sharing your experience
Gotta applaud op for still willing to go with a manufacturer after being burned by them
Anyone ever notice the Acura logo looks like a folded in H? Yeah no surprise coming from Honda, subtle hint of where it comes from.
Yes it’s a close resemblance
As for the x5 ill say ok if you 2jz swap it😅
Nice
I have a 2014 Audi A4. At 90k miles it started going thru oil. Now at 166k it goes thru a quart every 800 miles. I've had the intake cleaned twice for carbon build up and had a air valve replaced due to carbon. All while using premium Chevron gas. I don't think audi is reliable. I had a 1990 Mitsubishi ishi eclipse that was parked in a surface lot in Chicago for 9 of the last 10 years that went to 120k when I donated it. This Xara was back on the road in a couple of months because I got a call later from the police thinking it was stolen.
Certain older Audis had oil burning problems and piston ring, cylinder tolerances were not good and ate oil from the get go
50k and some change to get into a base Macan…
I recently saw one of your videos where Jeep is asking 47k for a Compass 🤦♂️
The math isn’t ‘mathing’
Make it make sense
The BMW X5 does not have fake tail pipes they are a aluminum shell surrounding the actual tailpipe which is spewing out black soot which is all over the aluminum frame. Proving that that round pipe inside of the rectangle is the real exhaust
What about the 2024 Lexus GX??? This video published in February 2024 but you covered the 2023 GX, and the 2024 GX has been redesigned from the ground up
Damn hope my Hyundai Elantra last somewhat long… I had a Toyota Corolla and it kept giving me problems but I think I might have been unlucky with that one
How to clean the aerator on glacier bay mckenna faucet
Oops - google search in the wrong place!🙄
Haha great comment. Cheers
great job guy
I am waiting for the BOOM.
Hah exactly
