- Most vehicles can last 200 000 or 300 000 miles, but there are still absolute duds! Today's list are some of the worst cars to own in 2023 or the least reliable cars you could buy. At least, all of this is in my opinion and that's from research, test driving, and working with tons of cars every week!
So if you're looking for unreliable cars, you can buy one here today. Or you could just avoid these cars like the plague!

Had older Benz with air suspension, it's absolutely true, the car started sagging fairly quickly and to replace one bag on one corner was 1500$
Lexus (Toyota) will immediately address and correct any defect in their vehicles. BMW, on the other hand, has known for years they are producing throw-away garbage. Yet they continue, and have proven, to do so. But don't tell the BMW fan bois, always at the ready to praise those steaming hot piles. But let's give German engineers a shout out! They do know how to polish a turd!
Toyota does try to shut down any issues right away and not let it fester
Totally true
😂 true
Lexus over bmw any day of the week
true which is why I do not want another BMW. The fact that they refused to pay for subframe failures even after a. massive class action lawsuit proves they do not value consumers! Same for Range Rover, Jaguar, and Mercedes. Overpriced crap.
After 100,000 miles an engine has completed about 400,000,000 cycles....thats a mini miracle.
Dont EVER EVER EVER buy a BMW with a V8! Get the 6cyl! And stay away from the airbag rear suspension.
Yes yes
How has nobody else commented on your "the rings of despair" followed by with a "big mouth just waiting to chew away your money" lines? Even if you said it in other videos, it's pure gold!
Haha, thanks so much
I totally agree with your choices and sad to say there's a lot more out there that most likely won't go to 100k miles.
Fornsure you are right
My 2010 Toyota RAV4 with the 2AR-FE engine just hit 200,000 miles. Original engine and transmission. Still humming along very well. I don't know if it's a coincidence about you showing cars that blow up, but I got a recommended video about roller coaster accidents today.
Same for my 2010 Corolla. Flawless for 13 years. I'm afraid to even think of another brand when the time comes.
😅😅😅. The last part though.
I also have a RAV4 of 2007, 2.2 diesel. It has 170.000 miles on it. The only thing I had to replace were the window wipers and brakes hahaha.
I was such a fool for not owning a Toyota from the start.
My Hondas, Mazdas ,and old Ford's have all had well over 300k and ran good..I've worked on cars for 20 years, and I maintain mine really well...newer Toyotas aren't built as well..they have issues.
@@StanTheObserver-lo8rx my Hondas ,Mazdas and old Ford's have all gone well over 300k and still ran good....Ive worked on cars for 20 years, and I maintain mine really well....but I'm so tired of people thinking Toyotas the only reliable brand.....infact, newer Toyotas aren't that great.
My old Tundra has been on the road and working hard for almost 25 years.
The old 5.7 is almost unstoppable . Thirsty but reliable
I think the tundra was one of the first non diesel vehicles that has gone over 1 million miles
I almost bought a 2001 a few months ago but someone beat me to it. I ended up going the complete opposite and buying a 2009 Honda Fit for commuting and using my 1st gen CRV for hunting and fishing. Works for me.
@@ECPP All 3 of mine have the 4.7 2UZ. I don't consider doing a timing belt/water pump service every 10 years as much an inconvenience.
@@puddytat54 I recently passed down my 2000 to my son, and replaced it with an '04 Crew Cab 4WD. It had under 50k, was AC garage kept, and factory maintained, with all paperwork.
I'm surprised Land Rover is not on this list.
Japanese and Korean quality is dropping yet prices rising fast to match German rivals.
Prices are rising massively on everything sadly enough event the big three
As a car enthusiast, I really appreciate this channel.
Also: My friend bought an Audi A4 that consumed excess oil and he replaced the entire engine at 100 000kms / 60 000 miles. 😮
My other friend bought an Eco Sport and it was always at the dealership for engine malfunctions. 😮
I had a 2.0L Beemer, it was 2012 and it's pulleys got loose which loosened the timing and ultimately led to me trading it in. 😮
My brother after I warned him bought a Beemer 2.0L and it had so many problems under the bonnet that he had to sell it after 3 years. 😮
Same friend mentioned with the Audi A4 also owned a Golf TDI who's cylinder head cracked, the oil cooler failed and turbo blew all within 2 months. IMMEDIATELY after fixing all the above, the crank shaft shot through the engine block and Kaboom went the entire engine. 😮😂 We had a beer over it. 🍻
He finally bought a Toyota after seeing me get an Isuzu. 😅
Thanks for supporting the channel and I appreciate your feedback. Looks like you have a few interesting vehicles in your past, some better than others
I almost bought a A3.... Good thing I bought a scion instead. 😅
Only time will tell, but mechanics say that if you change the transmission fluid and both filters every 20,000-30,000 miles, Nissan CVT transmissions will be okay. (We are not talking about a flush here.) You must change both filters, especially the one in the pan that catches (with a magnet) the metal shards that accumulate. Leave the dirty fluid in and you will have a problem. Again, only time will tell for me. I needed a car in February, and I did not have much choice. Thus far, I like my Kicks. I have not had any problems. I plan on changing the transmission fluid every 20,000 miles. My latest high for gas mileage was 44 MPG on the expressway.
Thanks a lot for sharing. That’s some great thoughts m.
I left another comment on my 2017 Nissan Sentra but it has so far made it to 120,000 miles. I have changed the CVT fluid around 30,000 miles with one time being 34,000 miles. I have had no issues with the car so far and its still running solid. I travel to other states as well with the car. @@ECPP
Very few people will follow a maintenance interval that's TWICE as frequent as conventional automatics.
My 2012 Sentra went 169K before the CVT utterly failed without warning. It's not a matter of 'If' but 'when' the CVT will quit. I bought a used CVT and had a local shop install it, the total cost being $2500USD. Got 187K on the clock now.
Lol.... every 20-30,000 miles. Are you kidding me. I have 170,000 and never changed my transmission on my 2017 mazda 6
YOU’RE WRONG… as a used dealer I personally see thousands of Nissan SENTRA’s & Altimas at the auction and trading with 150k and more mileage….
Thanks for sharing
No fiat chrysler on your list? That's odd 😅
My family has a 2015 X5 sDrive35i which is RWD with an 8-speed automatic. It has the N55 turbo straight 6 engine. We got in 2019 with only 17k miles & it now has a little over 70k miles & it's been problem free so far with regular maintenance from the dealer. I hope it will last to the 100k mile mark & past that without major problems
It will, my 2017 sDrive 35i has 156k. The transfer case was a known issue which we don’t have since we have a rear-wheel drive. I had mine since it 17k
I buy and sell cars sometimes , I just got a Mercedes’ e class with 282k miles and drives like new . I always defend Mercedes because I owned over the years so many of them and never let me down . The safest car, people don’t realise if you have accident in a Toyota or similar car , you probably will not survive and just keep driving the old car and be happy that it has 200k miles and be proud !!!
toyota is known for being safe wym
Not valid. Toyota/Lexus is well-regarded when it comes to safety
I always enjoy your videos
Keep up the great work.🤩
Actually, older cars have much higher chances of lasting over 100k with less running costs compared to modern counterparts. They had less things to break
@michaelqu He means 1980's prior, carburated engines that suffered fuel drip into cylinders that diluted oil on cylinder walls. Conventional motor oil that never lubricated the engine well during startup etc
I agree 💯!
Another great video! My 2018 Genesis G80 Sport has just hit 165k kms.
Great to hear!
I think 20 years ago most cars could make 100,000 mi no problem. I think today cars are having more problems before 100,000 mi than ever before. You have to go back to the '60s and '70s to find cars that couldn't make it 100,000
Agreed
Thank you, please keep the knowledge going
You bet!
great video .. just a suggestion that you must introduce current car pricing trend in CA or the best way to buy used cars from trusted dealers or areas .
Good point!
I used to like BMW alot... Nowaday, i only drive Japanese car especially Toyota cars as i get older. Maybe its alittle boring but it wont die on me unexpectedly.
My Nissan 2010 has 153,000 miles. Still no issues with my CTV transmission or engine issues.
Everything else is just normal wear.
I still have the same front light bulb from the factory 🏭
"20 or 30 years ago, most cars could only DREAM of lasting a 100 thousand miles" yet here i am with an almost 21 year old Peugeot 306 at over 190,000 Kilometers still gliding through corners like a little dragon as if it was brand new
Great show and information i watch your show regularly ! What's your opinion on the Mercury Grand Marquis and Lincoln Town Cars i am planning on buying one over the brand new cars of today ?
SO bought a 2012 Ram C/V mini-van, New. Was a great vehicle to 140K 5 years a great vehicle. Then I ran outta gas and listened to the radio for 45 minutes till gas showed up. Seems I overheated the fuel pump which was running the whole time cause there was no gas to build up pressure to turn off. Disaster. TIPCM was never the same, even changed that out and Van was never right again. .
Spot on review
Keep up the good work.❤️
Thanks a ton
Thank you so much for sharing your knowlege, great work and very fan to watch
So nice of you
You mention the Nissan Sentra but my 2017 Nissan Sentra has 120,000 Miles on it. It has given me no issues so I guess I'm the lucky one.
You can throw any model of jeep chrysler or dodge that has the dreaded 3.2 or 3.6 engine
Junk
2014 Audi Q5 TDI: 354,000. Not a problem. Sold it for 14 grand
Ford Focus and Ford Fiesta are known to have the same frail DCT transmissions that the Ecosport had. Not even the old cars that use dry timing belts have a timing belt-driven oil pump.
That Red car in the beginning was Maruti Suzuki 800 that lasts way more than 200k
how come bmw got rid of the bullet proof N52 engine? Would consider an x1 if it had that engine in it.
The N52 was and is the BEST engine BMW EVER made. This engine is bulletproof for sure. Most of them around my area have well over 200k miles and a few I’ve seen on e90 n52 had over 400k miles. Great point.
funny never a benz, which are known to be one of the least reliable long term cars
That X5 exhaust note is similar to Honda exhausts at 1am
Nice
The hot V you need to put the turbos behind the rear tires
Haha, well…..
I drive a 2016 Chevrolet Traverse and am quite concerned about the airbag recall. Why they have no fix for it still and I have to continue to drive around in a vehicle that is definitely unsafe due to possible shrapnel being driven through me in an accident. I guess that’s part of corporate policing themselves. They should be required to provide a rentals to every owner of these brands till a fix is in…. Absolutely irresponsible and wreck-less on GM’s part….
Someone needs to do a video on this and pressure them until they correct this…
I took mine in this summer to a GM dealer and was told they know of the recall but can’t do anything till GM comes up with a solution…
Maybe I can touch on that, seriously concerning and disappointing all in one.
If I were you I’d be more concerned about that GM LLT V6 engine and making sure you change the oil religiously. Timing chains are unforgiving on poor oil.
I didn't know that valves and piston can became friends sometimes. Another thing they didn't tell me at the driving academy l...😂
Concerning the airbag suspension example on that BMW--both BMW and Mercedes should subscribe to the motto of "Just because you CAN do it (adding so-called "features") doesn't mean you SHOULD".
Just convert it to a regular shock
@@PGXPPR You're correct of course, but owners shouldn't have to fix this piece of designer over-engineering.
Right! I think the 2, 3, and 4 series are BMWs most reliable models and happen to be the least overly engineered (within the brand at least) models. Sometimes, less is more.
@@dimi3391 those are the ones I see resurrected by teens and they hold up to quite a bit of hard driving these new cars seem like glass every time you turn around they need 3-5k worth of work
with the average age of a car now 14 years and getting held ever longer ... this is great information ... but few buy new and keep
Love this whole thing, but definitely totally wrong about the Tesla unfortunately
Every time you punch that camera, I expect my screen to crack! 😄
"The amazing oval of despair." I've never heard it put quite this way. 😂 Ford actually uses a BELT to run the oil pump?! That's a whole new level of insanity!
100% agree on Tesla. lithium-ion batteries start to age from the moment they are manufactured. Their capacity slowly decreases all the time, even when you don't use them at all. That well-aged Tesla is a throwaway vehicle at this point.
Thanks so much for the comment and yes the Tesla values follow the value of the vehicle, a slow and ready decline to oblivion
You can be fairly confident these faults are mostly designed in knowingly.
The water feature into critical areas is typical.
Also the plastic chain tensioner and guides.
BEVs will have faults built in.
Plastic heater matrix above the computer should do it.
Wet belt is blatant.
I’m glad I bought a new RAV4 gas only model in 2021. No problems just regular maintenance. FJB 🖕🇨🇳
Exactly that will run an easy 15-20 years
@@ECPP Watching you and Scotty over the years, I knew what to avoid. 💸💸💸 FEVs and FJB 🖕🇨🇳
My neighbor bought a new ford ecosport, the engine has been replaced twice in 2 years of ownership, he finally traded it in on a new honda crv...
Great plan. Those are pure junk
Made in usa is garbage over pirce in junk fu. 😢
Yikes. Hope he doesn’t have the oil dilution issue on his CRV.
After watching this video Im so glad that I drive a Honda Accord.
So true on Audi oil consumption. We had 2018 Q5 and we had oil consumption and quattro drive line issues. Lucky we leased it. Now we have '22 Lexus NX hybrid and so far very it has been reliable.
Toyta, honda, mazda the best.
Nice
All junk
Seems like Jaguar hasn't changed a thing in 50 years. Best way to own a reliable Jaguar is still to swap an American V8 in it 🤣
Ls swap for the sedans but the F Type is still a beast and should be left factory
I have Santa Fe 2017 sport AWD 2.4l , with 70k was already burning oil but luckily the manufacturer replaced the engine because was under warranty
Nice
The oval of despair😂😂😂
haha
The Lexus ES300h has a 6 year/70K powertrain warranty. The Euros only go 4 yr 50k. That Lexus gets over 40 mpg on Regular fuel. I would say most cars get expensive over 100k due to wear n tear and drying seals. The extended warranty companies love Lexus. The Euros not so much.
😏twenty or thirty years ago, some us in. Nigeria KNEW that the cars we had would probably outlive us 😅...seen a Peugeot 504, Benz 230E, a 1998 Toyota Camry recently...
A friend of mine drove his Toyota Corolla over a million before cashing in on it. That car is a beast

I’m thinking my 2018 Mazda cx-9 with 59000 miles will not make it to 100,000 miles with the number of reported cracked cylinder heads on the 2.5 turbos!
There is a bit of a reputation I. Some cases
I have a 2016 cx-9 and I’m 500 miles from 100k with no issues
I haven't watched this - but just know you are going to mention Kia and Hyundai. I drove a 2008 Elantra 143K miles, with minimal general maintenance - sold 3 years ago and this current owner has put another 28K on the car - still perfect. My sister-in-law drives a 2005 Sonata with 204K on it - two sets of tires and 2 car batteries, general maintenance - that's it. My current 2019 Kia Forte has 43K - zero issues other than the theft re-programming recall Kia performed.
It's your loss if you haven't watched this before commenting! The overwhelming majority of vehicles mentioned are fancy European brands... Best line.... big rings of despair ... (Audi).
@@RodneyW - I have watched many - and they always have Kia and Hyundai getting dogged. Doesn't make sense to me as I've owned both makes since 2005 with ZERO issues. Since 1976 I have owned the Big 3, Toyota, Mazda, Hyundai, and Kia. Worst lemon was a beautiful 1986 Chevy IROC - too many problems to list - got rid of it at 5500 miles.
Thanks for sharing
What about Kia Hyundai starting a fire by itself in a garage. I read an article that there are 3.4m cars on recall right now. You must be brave, I wouldn’t be able to handle having a such time bomb on my property 😂
@@bysaaa3048 😂😂😂 "I do believe in spooks, I do believe in spooks, I do I do I do believe in spooks" 🤣😂😂😂 - don't listen to false propaganda direct from Japanese automakers.
I keep thinking how come does it possible the manufacturers make these expensive cars and at the end we end up with the problems. Even the high end ones are not reliable. Why there is not an any back from the government to protect the consumers.
Damn Good Review ! More Like You, A1 !! Don't Know Why Y T "Allegedly" Needs This Pass Word To Legally Get By. Ur OnPoint 💯 😉👌

New Tesla anyone 😢 these ICE cars have too much moving parts” and the entire nature of the engine it’s like a pressure cooker, over time headgaskit blows, cracks in the head block leaking coolant into the engine, timing belt, transmission, schedule tuneups and high gas prices. This is it for me 😮
I co-sign on the Audi oil consumption issue....embarrassing.

Thank you for your continuous assessments ! I’m researching to purchase 2 new vehicles with no particular budget…BUT I’m asking what your review for best luxury (any size/model) SUV, SEDAN or COUPE in a foreign manufactured brand are ? I don’t intend to drive either for over 50,000-75,000 miles. Just looking for good, clean, luxury without ready-made failures from 2023 and/or 2024 😉 ALL replies are welcome 🤗
8:04 An XJ. Their signature car. I had a 1998 in immaculate condition, and sold at 115k miles with no issues. If you get the chains updated they can last up to 300,000 miles, I’m speaking of the X308. 1998-2003.
Sweet ride
plz make a video 10 Cars That goes +100,000 Miles!
You bet, thanks
Just keep buying foreign cars sooner or later you will learn your lesson.
Many of those cars decades ago were abused, poorly maintained and had odometers rolled back at least once, so the legendary 100,000 miles limit is debatable.
That’s fair
Hi Mark, PLEASE save us a cross country retirement trip. We own a 2018 a Chevy Equinox (LT)

where was that Lexus 300h made?
( same A25A engine with Camry & RAV4 ?)
I thought Lexus was one of the best luxury car brands to buy for reliability and longevity and good resale value? It is a glorified Toyota. I would buy one, but I love my Toyota.
Better bang for buck with the Toyota as many engines are available on both brands
Looks like the Jaguar XF would be a good candidate for an LS swap
When he is talking about these cars not reaching 100,000 I don't understand if he actually owned the cars or just hear say.
Searching from used cars websites there is tons of these cars above 100K.
He is describing all problems that happens to these cars but reading between the lines you realize he is listing all problems reported to the cars. It is not realistic that you will have all those problems.
It is a blanket statement which could not be specific to your car. He is just scaring people off.
Ask him which car is reliable or which one he is driving. Then search for problems online for that car and you will still find plenty. Moral of the story is... different cars different problems. Buy whatever car you like based on your priority of course...reliability or luxury or fun factor,,, and enjoy life.
I had the following cars that reached 100,000 miles and over.
1. Mercedes ML 430 year 2000 was problematic with electronics but reached 240K+ . Sold it after 15 years of ownership.
2. Audi Q7 4.2 Prestige year 2009. Still own it at 168K miles.
3. Ford Focus SE year 2013. Still owns it at 210K miles. Considered unreliable by reviewers. Original engine and transmission
4. BMW X5 XDrive35i. year 2015 . Still Owns is at 105K miles. Still runs great. Not even a check engine yet after all these years.
Thanks

What is your opinion of a Maza cx5. Will it last 300,000 miles
Anyone who buys a car or truck based on looks and features needs to learn common sense... Then again, the people who buy a car based on looks, probably have no idea how a car even works in the first place or bother to do any research...
Is the Lexus 300h engine issue related specifically to the 2020 model year or ALL model years? Thanks. This is one of the car models I was looking at to purchase, but will cross it off if all model years. Thanks!

Japanese aluminium engines will never last 100,000 miles. They corode so much in 6:32 the cylinder block that the whole engine has to be replaced. It happened both in my Toyota (90,000km+) and Dihatsu (145,000 km+). Too bad I learned too late.
