  • The Nocturne No. 20 in C-sharp minor, Op. posth., Lento con gran espressione, P 1, No. 16, KKIVa/16, is a solo piano piece composed by Frédéric Chopin in 1830 and published in 1870. From the 2002 film "The Pianist".
Chopin dedicated the Nocturne in C sharp minor No 20 to his older sister, Ludwika Chopin, with the statement: "To my sister Ludwika as an exercise before beginning the study of my second Concerto". First published 26 years after the composer's death, the Frederic Chopin Nocturne in C sharp minor No 20 is usually referred to as Lento con gran espressione, from its tempo marking. The Frederic Chopin Nocturne in C sharp minor No 20 is sometimes also called Reminiscence.
Frederic Chopin Nocturne in C sharp minor No 20 is played and recorded by Anastasia Huppmann in Vienna, Austria.

It's so interesting how popular this piece became after The Pianist movie. I learned this piece many years ago in music school. It's very pretty and one of Chopin's easiest nocturn. It was written for his sister as an exercise for his second concerto. Published 20 years after his death and played by many throughout the years. Played be Natalie Karp while in a concentration camp and later in the movie; The Pianist. It takes a whole different perspective. Not intended to be heart-wrenching, but so it became.

With regard to this extraordinary, bright, and brilliant performance of this nocturne, I would like to share my few word of thanks and appreciations. It may look at first that this piece has been played so numerously that hardly there is anything new in it for listeners.
Anastasia has brought it up to an entirely new level. She has put so much hope, so much love, and so much depth and expression of kindness into this apparently ordinary composition; love shines bright here. Just watch and listen over again.
Beautiful arts can speak faith, influence creativity of people and reach the depths of hearts.
    Respect for beautiful Anastasia.

That's the most beautiful thing I've ever heard and seen. I just saved it so I can watch it every day. How could you not have a good day when starting off with that? She really gets into the music too. That's what elevates her up to greatness. I feel that way when I hear it. And damn she's gorgeous! I heard once that everyone has a flaw. Hmm, I object.

    How I adore Chopin’s music...
There are no words powerful enough to describe a beautiful performance of any piece he composed. And you play this piece with his haunting spirit running through your blood, your fingers dancing as dear Chopin would have them; I can hear and feel it. I feel fortunate that you seem to love Chopin as much as I because your every post of his work makes that day brighter and more lovely for me.
Thank you, yet again, Anastasia, for sharing your gift with the world!

Anastasia, another big hit out of the ballpark with this absolutely beautiful and touching performance, which showcases your incredible mastery and burning passion for music! Your touch is so emotional, yet so controlled and calculated at the same time. You are a master of your craft and one of the very best in our world today! In fact, this is the finest performance of this magical piece that I have ever heard. Chopin is my favorite and this is also my favorite work from him. I miss playing this very much as it was a recital piece of my youth, but since my issues now prevent me from executing runs as smoothly, it's a big tough for me at the end. I would love to work on this again just to see if hard work and therapy would help me produce a good performance and you have inspired me greatly! I also want to mention the beautiful design of your video with the wind/trees and add tremendous atmosphere! BRAVO Anastasia and wishing you and yours a very happy New Year! ~Jackie

Brought tears to my eyes in seconds. So well done. So well interpreted. The left hand legato that she does to connect the notes together to form the melody WITHOUT overuse of the sustain pedal is truly phenomenal. No amount of work can do this - this is pure talent and feelings. Absolutely off the chart beautiful (and the piece is very good too). All that played on my favorite piano in the universe, the Yamaha C7. Nothing has that dynamic range. Anastasia takes advantage of that with the articulation. It is one thing to be given the best piano (in my humble opinion), it is another to know how to use it so gracefully well. Hands down the best interpretation of this Nocturne I have ever heard or seen.

Technical mastery entails emotional playing. That's what musical emotion is: wholesome technique. Technique lacking of emotion is a lacking technique. Almost anyone can learn to play like her. It's hard, but not that hard. The talented people get there faster, but most who try WILL eventually get there.
