Well explained, couldn’t have summed it up any better! When I was racing in the mid 90’s (competed at the Australian WSB, at Phillip Island in 96 and 97) I had a spare set of everything (bike included). However I lost (in if of the 3 day events 2 knee sliders on my left knee). A mate, who had a brand new set of leathers (he didn’t race) begged me to use his. I was great full, he was over the moon, as when I gave them back worn he was happy that other riders would then think he new how to ride quick! When he couldn’t, just by looking at both sliders... Memories! Thanks for posting this and I look forward to your next one! 👍😎🇦🇺
I feel comfort is the same level as protection. Theres a reason you wear helmets that always fit just right, they can give you headaches if too tight and not protect right if too loose. gloves that are too tight may cut circulation or gloves that are too big may mess with your touch sensitivity and all of this can cause accidents. So to me they are hand to hand
For me, it is comfort over protection. I am doing my research on buying motorcycles gears. Revzilla seems to be a reputable site for buying these gears.
Very informative and to the point...I personally have 5 pairs of gloves in my rotation, mostly short cuff since I ride mostly street, but all are leather, with palm sliders. When I was young and dumb, I gravitated to the mesh and light weight styles...but now that I'm older and have seen the results of crashes in low/no protection and weak/cheap material gloves, I put the protection factor first...same with rest of my gear (helmets, jackets, pants, and boots). Great content...keep of the good work.
Awesome video your talking about me , I went from no gloves to dirt bike gloves to short gloves to leather then finally last year went to full gauntlet gloves and will never look back.
Great video STG thanks for the information and the insight. Yeah on the street I always carry a second pair of gloves. Just like in the morning it takes me like an hour to get to the dragon and I will wear my cheaper icon gloves or my waterproof icon gloves to get there, and then once I'm there I'll switch to my fresh non sweaty high end icon gloves. I like to 🦚 what can i say, name of the game is to be seen. Well yall have fun on the track and catch you next video
Anyone that has been down will tell you the same thing. Get thick protective gloves and just adjust to them, I don’t feel comfortable riding now without good protection.
Good video, Van. I have had five pairs of gloves from the same company in succession: Racer. I like the fit and the value. Good quality at a very good price. I go for a wrist glove as I don't do track days.
Van you need to put these videos on rhe different landing pages for gear. When you select gloves, this pops up then all the different categories. So it can help more people. When they're looking.
While there will always be some variance in the fit when comparing glove models and brands we have seen less of this over the last couple of years than we used to. End of the day we are all shaped a little differently and may not get the same fit from the same pair of gloves. If you know you have a hard time getting a good fitting pair best to go to a shop like ours that has a lot in stock and try some one. - Van
All technical clothing, as we all know, improves with use because it adapts and adheres better to the shapes of our limbs, torso, shoulders, etc When I go to the tracks I often see motorcyclists using suits, gloves, boots with signs of falling and worn out only because only with them they are better to ride, fewer tight spots, more freedom of movement of the limbs. And having a comfortable suit, comfortable gloves and boots can radically change your riding skill. This I think is the reason why the safety and replacement of motorcycle clothing is neglected.
Do I need to remove my watch while using GAUNTLET gloves? I need a new pair of WINTER gloves and all I had were short gloves. I don't really know how do you wear gauntlets, with/without watch, under/over the jacket. I ride only on the street, but I appreciate nice protection.
That is going to depend on how big the watch is and which model you are interested in. I would not count on being able to wear your watch with the gloves. - Van
Back 30 years ago, I used to have a pair of Fox Paws. They had a bunch of metal rivets on the palm. So you could keep traveling Mach-3 and pass the guy over the finish line. Lol 😁👍🍻
Thank you. I need hand protection, not just for falling, but also for self defense, with the current state of NYC. I had a good laugh when you mentioned Stingray. I was thinking, oh, is that the nickname for some armor technology, no, literal stingray skin. I did not know that was a thing. Kangaroo either.
I think my biggest question is; how do you get used to the feeling? Just an example an Alpinestars glove with the knuckle protector is pretty slim but gives great feeling on the throttle! I want the most protection as possible, but I’m wary for a gauntlet style because I’m worried about not being able to even feel the throttle because the glove is to thick. I mean I know racers all wear the gauntlet style, but for a daily rider what would you guys recommend? It’s a tough call like everything else. Comfort over safety:)
Hands need full protection. I have owned 3 pairs alpinestars GP Pro air R3. As well as couple pairs SMX 1 short gloves. Alpinestars fit American hands and feet more appropriately vs Dainese or Spidi, imo. Good review.
Hey Brian - A great video just like the boots one. I too have learned a lot over the years on what gear is good for me and what isn't and a lot of it was learned by trial and error, so yeah I wasted some money lol. Everybody's different in what gear is right for them and what isn't but this video and your other ones like this will at the very least minimize the amount of money wasted on gear that in the end doesn't work for you. Since dead or disabled men don't ride I'm big on safety so videos like these are much appreciated even for us seasoned riders, so great job. And BTW, what the hell were you doing in those held gloves, riding motorcycles or using them as a mitt for the barbeque grill? Both? LOL
D30 knuckle protection...or carbon fiber knuckle protection? Which would you recommend? I've heard-tell that carbon fiber knuckle protectors splinter/shatter in a crash, and that d30 knuckle protection can be hit or miss, depending on the design or from whom one buys the gloves. Thoughts?
I think either one will get the job done. With the carbon there is padding behind the carbon to protect the knuckles. As for the carbon splintering I have never seen that happen in a crash. - Van
Thanks for a very informative video! What is your take on CE level 2 protection gloves? Why is it so difficult to find level 2 protection short cuff gloves in any but small size?
Pretty helpful video. I am looking into replacing my Knox gloves which I really like but just can’t spend the normal $300+ right now; I am off bike for probably rest of year and sticking to track only from now on so certainly need something with palm sliders. Also on a side note, looks like your slimmed down so right on 👍🏻 (Also lost those lock down pounds myself)

I purchased a glove with lot of padding on in the palm but i hated it. It wont allow me to grip the handle bars properly. My hand feels like its being forced open and its going to slip if i go over a bump. If force squeeze then the knuckle things dig in. This is only an issue on the throttle side. They fit snug . So im wondering if they are to small. Or do you recommend a comfortable glove that’s good for weathers 55 degrees and up.
I would never ride in a glove that restricts movement in any way. If you want a nice pair of gloves at a great price check out the RST gloves on our site. Here is a link: www.sportbiketrackgear.com/rst/?_bc_fsnf=1&Product%5B%5D=Gauntlet+Gloves&Product%5B%5D=Short+Cuff+Glove
Hey Van. I've already got a set of track gloves but am looking for a set of decent warm weather street gloves right now. I'm looking at the Cortech Sonic-Flo Airs on your site. Look like a decent combo of protection & comfort but not many reviews yet. Would they be my best bet @
What was the first RST glove you showed with the slider? I see RST evo R gloves on the site but not the evo 4 gloves. Is there a big difference? I was thinking about getting the evo 4 suit and thought about getting matching evo 4 gloves but are the R better?
Palm sliders are critical if protection is important to you. While they do not provide any bracing they do help to reduce energy transfer which can save a wrist. - Van
pretty good video, on the waterproof textile gloves, there are many option now a days with palm slider made with super fabric, The palm are all leather with a textile back. In both goretex and other water proof membrane.

@@sportbiketrackgear gear get better every year. New techs makes them more protective. I ride all year in all season as I commute on a bike to avoid traffic. I have been really impressed with newer wet weather and winter gloves. Five has a great protective winter heated glove in the HG1.
any advice to someone who needs track gloves but has shorter fingers. have tried rst tractech 3 and alpine stars gp pro v2 but the tips of the fingers extend out way to much and is super uncomfortable. even trying a small same thing just tight around the palm. thanks!
The best advice I have is for you to go to a store and try on several pairs. All of the brands have very similar fit when you compare them to each other. There is a little variance but not a ton. Odds are if your fingers are short you will end up having to put up with some additional length. - Van
you have to understand you are not going to slide very far on the street before you hit something whether its the curb or a tree or a lamp post or another vehicle so slide protection is not as essential as riding on the track where you can easily slide over 100meter in a crash. Feel of the controls is also not as essential as track riding as you dont normally go to max braking or max lean on the street. Comfort and impact protection from bugs or rocks at speed is more important for street riding. Durability is also more important for street riding. Track gloves sacrificed a lot of durability for feel by making the palm and finger with much thinner materials.
As someone who crashed on the road at 50mph, I sustained Bennett’s fracture. I will never buy a pair of gloves for riding hard that does not have scaphoid sliders.
Almost all of the race gauntlets are thicker than the street gloves and offer more impact protection. If protection is your number one concern you should be wearing a race gauntlet glove. - Van
The Alpinestars GPPro v3 gloves have some of the most ridiculous pinky and ring finger lengths I’ve ever seen. They clearly cut the hand template from someone with a deformity. Look at the Supertechs or most other AStars gloves and the hand template is fine. The last two digits are just so abnormally long on the v3. Also the finger tip plastic bits love to catch on levers. Doubt they would have any real world use. They only serve to bulk up the thickness of the fingers.
@@sportbiketrackgear I didn’t buy the supertechs because of your video! Btw totally agree about the palm. All 3 times I’ve gone down the sliders always have been scuffed. Which makes me more upset about the fingers of the gp being for goblins :)
We have not sold Dainese for the last handful of years. There were too many issues with service after the sale when our customers had a problem and they were difficult to work with as a dealer. Most dealers do not like working with Dainese. - Van
The Racer will provide the most feel of those listed while still offering plenty of protection. As you would expect the GP Pro R3 is a nice glove (Max has raced in them plenty). The Handroid provides some additional protection but you do sacrifice some feel. - Van

So im wondering if they are to small. Or do you recommend a comfortable glove that’s good for weathers 55 degrees and up.
I would never ride in a glove that restricts movement in any way. If you want a nice pair of gloves at a great price check out the RST gloves on our site. Here is a link: www.sportbiketrackgear.com/rst/?_bc_fsnf=1&Product%5B%5D=Gauntlet+Gloves&Product%5B%5D=Short+Cuff+Glove
@@sportbiketrackgear thanks alot :)
Hey Van. I've already got a set of track gloves but am looking for a set of decent warm weather street gloves right now. I'm looking at the Cortech Sonic-Flo Airs on your site. Look like a decent combo of protection & comfort but not many reviews yet. Would they be my best bet @
IMO this is an excellent glove for the money. Put another brand name on them and they would be closer to $100. - Van
@@sportbiketrackgear Awesome! That's great to hear. Thanks for getting back to me so quick so i can get my order in asap
@@sportbiketrackgear Hey Van, seriously... Just got the gloves & u were totally right! I can't believe these are
Thank you

I need gloves with a button snap on. Velcro is a no go
Velcro adjusters and safety strap are pretty much the industry standard for sport riding and racing gloves. - Van
What was the first RST glove you showed with the slider? I see RST evo R gloves on the site but not the evo 4 gloves. Is there a big difference? I was thinking about getting the evo 4 suit and thought about getting matching evo 4 gloves but are the R better?
We are waiting on a huge shipment from RST right now. Will have the new gloves and hundreds of suits. - Van
@@sportbiketrackgear would you recommend that the evo 4 gloves are a worthwhile upgrade cower the evo r gloves?
Wrist protection?
Palm sliders are critical if protection is important to you. While they do not provide any bracing they do help to reduce energy transfer which can save a wrist. - Van
Wassup man I'm a new rider and I'm looking for a boot but I also want it to be for street which one would you recommend
Too many options to list here. Shoot the team an email at orders@sportbiketrackgear.com and they will get you sorted out. - Van
glad u hve shirt fit u
I wish you could put together a real sentence. - Van
Great video dude!
Thank you for watching! - Van
Would cut resistant / Tactical gloves work for riding gloves?
I have no real experience with gloves like that so I can't say for sure. - Van
Hey brian, how short are the gp pro r3 cuff compared to the gp pro r2?
I do not have a pair of the R2 here anymore to compare. From memory I feel like they are pretty much the same length. - Van
Thanks

Thats a nice shirt
Thank you. We are working on producing these to sell now. Should be here in a few weeks. - Van
pretty good video, on the waterproof textile gloves, there are many option now a days with palm slider made with super fabric, The palm are all leather with a textile back. In both goretex and other water proof membrane.
I have seen a couple of winter gloves that offer the sliders. Like I said in the video the winter / wet weather stuff is really not something we focus on. - Van
@@sportbiketrackgear gear get better every year. New techs makes them more protective. I ride all year in all season as I commute on a bike to avoid traffic. I have been really impressed with newer wet weather and winter gloves. Five has a great protective winter heated glove in the HG1.
What gloves from alpinestars has the palm sliders
The majority of the current Astars sport gloves offer the palm sliders now. Several long and short models. - Van
any advice to someone who needs track gloves but has shorter fingers. have tried rst tractech 3 and alpine stars gp pro v2 but the tips of the fingers extend out way to much and is super uncomfortable. even trying a small same thing just tight around the palm. thanks!
The best advice I have is for you to go to a store and try on several pairs. All of the brands have very similar fit when you compare them to each other. There is a little variance but not a ton. Odds are if your fingers are short you will end up having to put up with some additional length. - Van
@@sportbiketrackgear thanks for the help Van! Will have to wait a month for that since were back in lockdown and nothing is open! wish me luck haha
What are those rst street gloves called?
RST TracTech EVO Short Gloves

you have to understand you are not going to slide very far on the street before you hit something whether its the curb or a tree or a lamp post or another vehicle so slide protection is not as essential as riding on the track where you can easily slide over 100meter in a crash.
- Van
Thanks for sharing that and I hope you have healed up completely.
Here is an example of why we need choices. Max and I both like the R3 gloves and I am not a fan of the Supertech glove. - Van
@@sportbiketrackgear I didn’t buy the supertechs because of your video! Btw totally agree about the palm. All 3 times I’ve gone down the sliders always have been scuffed.
Which makes me more upset about the fingers of the gp being for goblins :)
Have you fallen out with Dainese?
We have not sold Dainese for the last handful of years. There were too many issues with service after the sale when our customers had a problem and they were difficult to work with as a dealer. Most dealers do not like working with Dainese. - Van
Go pro r3 vs. racer high racer vs handroid…. HELP?!??! 🤯
The Racer will provide the most feel of those listed while still offering plenty of protection. As you would expect the GP Pro R3 is a nice glove (Max has raced in them plenty). The Handroid provides some additional protection but you do sacrifice some feel. - Van
Right.
Thanks for watching. - Van
i like carbon fiber from formula 1 too!!!! hahahaha
High end for sure. - Van
TWO diff pair...lol...ive got five my friend lol...
I have a whole gear bag full too. For sure you need more than one pair of gloves if you can afford them. - Van
