    No question here in Arizona, short cuff ventilated gloves Mar-Sep, gauntlet gloved Oct-Feb depending on day or evening riding.

    Def some solid info. I got a pair of gauntlet gloves and most of the time I'm riding in hot weather. And I wear a watch on my left wrist I often find myself not wanting to bother with the hassle of fighting to get the gloves over my jacket, and watch. I'm on an ebike so my speeds aren't terribly high, but I don't like that I'm ignoring protection for convenience. Might have to get some short cuff gloves.

    I normally start my day’s ride in NC with my Rev’it leather or goretex gauntlets depending on cold the weather is, and carry a pair of perforated leather/mesh shorties with me when the weather is going to be anywhere above 75*F

  • @Im_George
    @Im_George 3 года назад +1

    Protection is most important. Gauntlet 100%. Hot out? That's why manufacturers make perforated riding gear. I ride in 100F+ temps and have 0 issues.

    As usual a good and matter-of-fact video. One comment on commuting to work especially overseas (#Holland - The Netherlands) where we do have hot summers from time-to-time 😁... I personally use a pair of Fusion 2 GTX (Gore-Tex) from Rev-It👌🏾. The best IMHO for an almost continuous onslaught of wind & rain 🙄.

    I feel like you should probably have at least 2 pair of riding gloves.. but that's just my opinion and personal option. I have a short set for most occasions, and then a gauntlet set that is for the rain/cold weather days of riding. It helps a ton since I ride a bike without a faring or shield.

    I felt like he was talking to me for the second question. I live in Arizona, 80% of my riding is to work and back, and I only park it for the 8 weeks of "winter" we get

  • @togerider2703
    @togerider2703 3 года назад

    I gave up on the idea of "all weather", all seem bunk. Similarly to jackets, I ended up with 3 pairs of gloves (winter, a waterproof mid-temp and a mesh). Sometimes I carry multiple pairs with me to accommodate for changes. Mandatory warning: take a little time to adjust if you are changing gears.

    Great topic! I’ve always felt the gauntlet glove was best to cover your sleeve in cold/wet weather. But I do see there is a belief in the short cuff winter glove which goes inside your sleeve on the basis that water runs down the sleeve & over the glove, not into it- but I just can’t see that being comfortable on a cold,wet ride ⛈

    • @robertakerson7186
      @robertakerson7186 3 года назад

      These are good thoughts. I've just gotten short cuffed waterproof gloves for rainy conditions and will soon know whether the belief is true or not. I do know that with gauntlet gloves I have experienced rainwater running down my sleeves and into my gloves (the reason we called ape hanger bars "self-draining", their one good point).

    • @robertakerson7186
      @robertakerson7186 3 года назад

      Mr. Bird- Whatever works for you is best. I find the rainwater is most troublesome during stops in traffic; some riders have been known to cross their hands up over their chests during stops to keep the water from running down their sleeves into the gloves. If your bars are high maybe their is no problem.

      What has been your experience with the touch screen capabilities of it? I'm on my second pair and I'm thinking about returning it. I've returned the first pair because it just wouldn't work on my devices. This second one worked out of the box (although far from being very precise) but now a mere 700km (~450 mi) later it's already not working anymore. I just can't believe I'm that unlucky, it's gotta be a bad quality material they use.

      Leather is always more protective, but you have to weigh that against how much mobility you need and if you ride in very hot/humid or rainy weather. Heat stroke is no joke and heat exhaustion will have you sluggish to respond and making poor decisions.

    I literally just bought some track-ish gauntlet gloves for their protection for the street and can confirm that comfort is no wheres as good as my shorties. I can’t do it. I gotta send em back :( they are so nice but the gauntlet gets in the way with the jacket cuff and its stiff with extra protection. They take way longer to put on/off and with the fingers being a little thicker i feel the levers less. Shortie gloves? Snug, thin, beautiful! Just maybe not as safe :( thank you for confirming my decision (seriously, just got them today). Shortiiiiiiiies!

  • @nickthequick
    @nickthequick 3 года назад +1

    First off: One pair of gloves is likely not going to do it for you. Two different type of gloves is probably a minimum.
    Instead of waterproof gloves, you could also consider just getting a pair of over-gloves (Dainese among others carry that type) to cover your favorite gloves in a downpour so you don't have to carry a pair of bulky extras.

    For touring and knowing the weather, on europe, in the summer, i take 2 pairs. One summer short cuff glove and a waterproof glove for when it rains. You would not, want a goretex gloves on summer just because you want to take just one glove on the ride. That's stupid. Modular is better.
