It's incredible how much difference a set of tank grips makes. They for sure cut down on fatigue on my previous bike and my current one--didn't realize the track-focused ones got so extreme, though!
Forgot one installation step as recommended by TechSpec: use a hairdryer to warm up the grip and the bike’s surface before applying. Especially if working in a cold garage.
I wouldn't have thought of putting these on my bike because, you know, those are just for track days. Luckily the previous owner had installed a set. They have to be the best value in added control/comfort that you can get.
All I can say, when you buy them.... put them on! Took 2 years to put mine on and it seamed like I wanted them on in the coldest months of the year and you can't do it in the cold. So I finally put them on earlier this year!😊
Very first mod I bought for my bike was a nice set of tank grips. Then some nice shorty levers and some upgraded handlebar grips and a more comfortable seat. Gotta get the necessities first before you get the showy stuff. The LeoVince Corsa Evo can was the last thing after I got the necessities but it actually wound up being well worth it too, helped the bike breath a lot better and actually got rid of a little high rpm vibration I was having, not to mention the massively upgraded sound.
It’s amazing how these still aren’t universally used and loved. There’s a whole tank shim kit out for my bike that tons of people use to flatten the seat to keep you from sliding forward under deceleration and it’s entirely circumvented by installing tank grips on the bike, something you should be planning on doing anyways
I ride Triumph Bonnevillle, with tank grips as standard, the problem I've got with them is...they are destroying my jeans. I don't know, am I doing something wrong, I wouldn't say that I'm squeezing the tank very hard or anything, it's Bonneville after all, so I don't ride aggressively. And after less than a month, I've already got marks on my not that long ago shiny jeans... Any advises?
I'm the same with my XSR 700, tank grips would cover up that sweet Kenny Roberts livery! Also I have good grip on the tank even without them because of how well it's shaped for my body.
Hmmm wellll not exactly to answ your question, but I put a full transparent tank wrap on my vstrom650xt,because it's black color. So far nothing scratched, but I do not do trackdays and wear kinda soft kneepads for touring...hope it helps?!?
Why do I need to brace at all except under heavy braking? Gripping the tank with your knees just causes fatigue. When we go around corners, the bike, and us as the rider are in balance. When going around a corner the forces of the turn push us into the bike. If you have a death grip on the tank you can not do emergency maneuver as well. Even moto gp are having off the bike or throwing out a leg for balance. In my limited experience, they are only useful under extremely hard braking. And that is just a guess because I do not have them. I just have a tank pad that the former owner install to protect from belt buckle scratches. Do people really use they for something other than braking.
Want to add tank grips or a tank pad to your motorcycle? RevZilla has loads of options. rvz.la/405rfP5

I dunno why they made video about that, I never seen any rider without it
I like to use blue painters tape as a guide to line up on when installing tank grips. Great video as always.

Been running tank grips for a couple decades. Still a fun watch.

Your timing couldn't have been better: I just came home with a pair of tank grips for my Pan Am and there Ari with a full run down 😁
My opinion, yes. If you have a tendency to slide back when accelerating, and forward when breaking, it's 100% worth getting.
I can't stay light on the bars and keep my 'nads off the tank without them. An absolute must.

That’s my style/technique for sealing/applying decals on my bike 😊
What does the tank grip do to the paintwork on the bike?
Can it be removed without damaging the paint?
I have used techspec and Stompgrip. They are easy to remove and do not damage the paint.
yes you have to repaint the whole bike when you take them out......................
Thank you Ari!
I have techspec and it makes a massive difference on my ninja 400 espcially when i take a passenger with me

I'm a simple guy. I see Ari, I click the video.
Excellent info, I thank you....
I like Tank Slappers. They are almost invisible. They protect the tank. They are a great company.
Is that a brand or..

Wear motorcycle-specific pants?
Its a great upgrade to your bike.
Nice tips!!!
Tank grips and pads are very practical but also add to the look of my bike.
I have tank grips from techspec and in my opinion they're so crucial for even casual riding that I'm not sure why they are not standard on all tanks
I’ve been meaning to get some grips for my ZH2. I’m going to be vain and leave them off my R9T. That tank is just too nice as is.
Why not get some clear ones for the R9T?

For the love of jebus wear a jacket Ari, you're making us all feel inadequate!
Fort9 said to use anti slip bathroom tape👍🏼
Tank grips also great for 2up riding
Thanks Ari.👍🏻
When I first saw the title of the video I thought it was for some sort of grips for inserting the gas nozzle lolol
Anyone have recommendations for a 4th gen sv650 tank pad? My paint is already scratched up..

Heck to the yeah
Wouldn't ride without them.
I have Techspec on my bike and it put a hole in my leather jacket.
Meanwhile I'm 205lb riding a 225lb bike, and there's no way my big legs are fitting in that tight with the tank.......
Jorge Lorenzo only managed to ride the Ducati properly when they solved the tank grip issues he had
You can't use tank grips with a Harley Davidson sportster.
супер
Hate them. Cringeworthy mod.
They simply hide that color, looks ugly, and beend riding on singles and 3cyls, never thought of tank pads need. and i do wear riding pants.
