- damianbacci.com In today's lesson we are taking a look at Johnny Cash's "Folsom Prison Blues". We'll be learning the intro, solo, rhythm and outro.
Thank you so much for playing through all the major parts, instead of launching into 25 painful minutes of teaching us how to finger each note.
Glad you enjoyed the lesson. Thank you for watching :)
I started learning guitar when I was 50. I was afraid that I wouldn't succeed. But when I was looking for how to play Folsom Prison Blues, I found your video. Thanks, man, for the quote at the end! I can do it, no matter my age!
Greetings from Poland!
Glad you enjoyed this lesson and the words. Cheers & keep on rockin' my friend :)
Another fellow punk who loves country, true country. I grew up playing power chords now I've been playing "Americana " for about 10 years now. Got into Townes Van Zandt and he changed everything for me. Getting into Luther Perkins playing lately so I love this lesson. Thanks man.
Thank you. Glad you enjoyed the lesson. :)
I haven't checked out your videos for a while, but watching this reminded me of why I like them. Straightforward, simple and clear explanations that really help my playing. Thanks.
Glad you enjoyed the lesson and thank you for watching :)
Greetings from Basye, Virginia. It's where I am in the spring and fall. I'm right across the bay in Bradenton in the winter. And I'll be watching you from Digby, Nova Scotia this summer.
Awesome. I need to visit Virginia sometime soon. I'm huge fan of American history and George Washington's Mount Vernon
is on a bucket list of mine.
Keep on Rockin' & enjoy your summer in Nova Scotia.

Virginia has its share of early rockabilly performers including Gene Vincent, Janis Martin, and Wayne Newton - yes he started out in rockabilly. There’s a collection of 60 rockabilly tunes recorded by Virginia artists between 1956 and 1960 called “Virginia Rocks” you might want to check out before you tour the Commonwealth. No shortage of jazz players either including Ella Fitzgerald, Charlie Byrd, and Tiny Grimes. Other notable guitar players who at least lived here a while included Roy Buchanan, Danny Galton, and Bill Kirchen.
Listening to your lesson from sunny Gambia, the smiling coast of Africa ❤
Thanks for watching Tony. Cheers :)

Wow great lessons. I wish I had these as a kid. I gotta show my son these lessons. I'm teaching him and I'm always on the lookout for stuff to help. Thanks
Years late to the party, but thanks foer the tutorial! The tabs were slow enough to follow but also fast enough to connect with the ear. Great teaching!
Glad you found the lesson helpful. Thank you for watching :)
Another great lesson on undoubtedly one of the most iconic Johnny Cash recordings! Thanks Damian! You got a fan in NC!
Thank you Yarg Scallywag. I love NC. I was just there this past Fall for a vacation.

Great Song, & Great Instruction. Viewing this rom Chico, California. First tried to learn Johnny Cash's Folsom Prison Blues in 1958 on a Sears-Roebuck Silvertone guitar. No Tuners back then and I only figured out C, F, & G Chords. Lived in El Paso, TX, back then. Thanks for your videos !!!
Thank you for watching Leonard. :)
Thank, this was great. Clear and concise. You're having one of the best teaching concepts on RUclips.
Greetings from Finland.
I've always loved this song and read on thing on Luther got that sound ' I heard he used a Fender super reverb in 68 at Folsom prison " he turned the middle off and get that snappy sound" amazing
Thank you for watching :)
Very good lesson. Captures the Luther feel nicely. Thank you.
Thank you John.

You seem so nice and mild mannered for a guy with a Minor Threat poster in the background.
Thanks for watching the lesson Joel. I bought that poster 29 years ago. Minor Threat and the Straight Edge music scene had a big influence in my life back in the late 80s & early 90s. :)
@@Damianblf that's a long time ago. I think I gathered at some point that you are older than you look. I've smoked pot since I was 15 so I never really got the straightedge appeal though I knew Ian was straightedge. For me I was just into the punk and ska thing period. I like your Op Ivy poster too. 👍.
Great video! I thought I had it down but saw I was putting in a little more notes than it has. Thank you for the video.

Thx DB for another great lesson. As someone who has both URG and The Jump Blues course I can honestly say, go get em. They’re very reasonably priced and they’re are so many little licks and bends in different keys that will help you with your playing. No I don’t work for Damien, he doesn’t even know me. You won’t be disappointed
Thank you Joe. I really appreciate the kind words and the support. It really means a lot to me.

Hi XLBiker13
Good to hear from you. Hope all is well.
I'm missing NY right now. This year will be the first summer in a very long time that I don't make it home for a visit.

DAMIAN
Great lesson...and i can't take my eyes off that NYHC poster. Grew up listening to a lot of NYHC bands.
Thank you Alvin
Awesome, It's always nice to hear of others who enjoy NYHC.
Straight Edge Hardcore bands were a huge influence in my life back in the 80s. Great music with a positive message. I was lucky to grow up in suburbia just outside of NYC. I was able to see a lot of great shows and NYC was one of the best places to get hard to find music back in the day. I was fortunate to live so close.
Keep on Rockin' & Happy Friday to you!
DAMIAN
Great guitar tricks n lesson I learn from you.

Thanks Matthew :)
Watching from Hazel township PA, good vídeo
Hiya Damian -
Yes! Cash was most comfortable singing out of 'F', so he and the band tuned up a hair.
Something else I learned about Luther...
When I lived and entertained down in Nashville, I thankfully had the pleasure to meet and know a lot of the Old Guard... I miss those great guys.
Anyhow, a few of them would tell me and then fellas in the band old stories about guys like Hank, Elvis, Johnny, etc... One night, we were told the story of how Luther never seemed confident that he was a "good enough" player, and would act sort of embarrassed when the band played live behind Johnny on variety stage shows...
So to kind of screw with him, say Hank Garland or Grady Martin would be playing on the same show, so they'd sneak behind the curtain, directly behind Luther who was of course in front of the curtain on stage, and plug in and "play along with" Luther while he was doing the show... We were told that Luther figured out what was going on right away, and he'd start clowning and making like it was him that was playing all of the fancy stuff, when in reality it was someone like Garland or Martin just goofing off behind the curtain!
We were told that Luther thought it was the funniest thing on the planet, we were also told that he was one of the most good natured guys you'd ever want to meet, too.
I'm thankful that I got to know a lot of those "old guys" while they were still with us... Jimmy Dickens is just one really great person that I fondly remember... He was incredibly funny and would come to our traditional Rockabilly shows and talk to us for hours afterward... I truly miss that guy.
Hey... By the way- is that Geoff Fireball playing the doghouse in this video? It sure sounds like him... I haven't seen that Cat in forever.
Cheers, Brother...
Great lesson video, thanks for posting this video! The tabs definitely helped
great lesson !
Enjoyed meeting you & yer daughter at Skippers. For a band that hasn't played together for 2 years, you all killed it! My wife, son and myself talked about the bands, and your band was the rock'inest ! To be honest, after "Hairdresser on Fire" we got kind of bored. We didn't even stay for the last act. So just wanted to let you know how good you all rocked ! Hope to see ya'll again.
It was nice meeting you and your family as well. That evening was a really fun night. I hope to play next years Rockabilly Ruckus.
Keep on rockin brother!
DAMIAN
I'ts a very good lesson ! Thank you Damian :-)
Thank you :)
Great lesson!!! My favorite Cash song is Get Rhythm. I first heard it when I bought a rockabilly cassette when I was ten years old. Bought it with my paper route money. I had just seen the Buddy Holly story and Oh Boy was on there. Train Kept a Rollin’ was another good track.
Always a joy to watch your videos!
