You guys have a way of making me want things I don't need. By the end of the video, I had just about convinced myself I need this. The Anderton's channel is pure evil to my wallet!
That’s the idea!
Caveat Emptor, baby.
That's how they make their living
@@KaninTuzi Swindling pedal pushers
Indeed. Andertons have taken so much of my money, if I have to go the bank, I have a special disguise (hat, shades, fake moustache, all that), lest the manager recognises me.
This is the pedal I've been waiting for, simple, efficient and no more deep frustrating menus. Great review!!!!
Yup, think im sold. The fact it can connect to an on stage cab is dreamy too
I think Im in the same boat! Does anyone know if I could use this as an amp+cab and just plug this straight into my usb interface and dial in some good tones?I dont need to use an actual cabinet right?
Ive been thinking about getting an Iridium but then I saw these ones and im really torn about wich one to get? Im a intermediate-ish guitarist thats just looking to having a simple and decent enough headphone/recording setup at home
Nah, sorry, you can hear the lack of sag over RUclips …
@@MikaelKonradsson From what they said you don't need the cab when connected to the computer. They didn't use the cab in the 2nd half.
@@TeleTonemonkey you can put this into a tube amp and get the power tube sound
I can't believe Pete played a Mastodon riff (at 9:43). Brilliant.
This video doesn't only show what a great device the Amped 2 is, but also what a great guitarplayer Pete is.
I love when Pete slides a joke under the radar, he gives a smirk to the camera lol.
Cana coke
It sounded really good. Good Job Blackstar
I love how good non-tube amps are getting. What Pete said that he doesn't feel like it's a tube, he might be right, but it could be his eyes telling him it isn't a tube amp. Blind test tube vs non-tube? There are some more options now.
Have you ever played a tube amp? If you have then you should know there's a definite feel to it, a certain way it reacts to string attack- and solid state fails to emulate that part of the experience. It's not a deal breaker, but it's something to consider- it's worth pointing out. Two rocks for instance just put out an amp in a box pedal in this vein but analogue- and it costs as much as a digital modeler like this but only emulates one amp, has no effects, etc. So, I asked the guys who like it and use it why they would pay that much for this device when they could get a modeler with multiple amps, effects, cab sims, etc.- it was the feel. Because it's analogue and has a tube in it, it feels and sounds just like a real tube amp- it is a real tube amp really. It's just an amp head put into a pedal format. For some guys this is very important- not for me or you apparently, but we're not everyone.
@@stoneysdead689 two notes* not two rock.
@@DroneCorpse Correct- not sure how or why the computer thought I was looking for "rock" instead but- it obviously did.
The depth with which you guys review these pedals and the amount of fun we have watching y'all do it while learning an insurmountable number of things, is BRILLIANT!! Thank-you for allowing everyone to have this kind of access to tech and sound 🎩✨
P.s. - Can't wait for this year's looper video !! Pete is MAGIC when it comes to loopers And I'm really interested in seeing what he does with a Boss RC 600.
Keep Rocking like you always do 🔥🎸
NUX's Trident and this will make for an interesting shootout. Looks like Blackstar is honing in on BluGuitar but they'll be hard pressed to sound as good. It is refreshing to see a lot of these manufacturers understanding the appeal of a knob based pedal amp rig as a viable option to those Borg boxes where you end up playing finger bongo more than guitar. Why on Earth would I need 300 presets when all I'm looking for is good tone and the ability to create three or four variations of it?
You don’t need 300 presets, of course. They are selling to more than one guitarist though, so flexibility is good. I personally don’t mind the computerized menus etc. I do understand that you don’t really want to mess with them in a live performance environment.
I’m not in the market for one of these, but if they sound good I can imagine the simpler and more familiar interface luring more old tube heads over to digital…
Perfect for gigs! Cab and Blackstar unit and done! One trip from the car and ready to play.
This thing sounds FANTASTIC!!! I NEED one.
O lawd, this looks incredible - definitely looks like a viable alternative to my entire rig now!
I’ll never get tired of the Lee lick and then the look to The Captain afterwards 😂
Fantastic piece of kit - needs the ability to store 4 or 5 patches then I'm sold
Well done gents. I love these type of all-in-one rigs. Perfect for consistency when doing pick up gigs, especially in Nashville. I appreciate the go-to clean chorus sound Pete went for is “Purple Rain.” That chord is the perfect test for me as well. 🍻🤘 Gotta get this one for sure.
Fantastic playing!! I could listen for hours!
Blackstar is a really Good Company. I bought the dep. 10 dual drive and love it
Seems like a really cool pedal. I wish I could play good enough to justify having one. Maybe in the distant future. Amazing video and playing as always.
DP is on fire I’m this video 😂. Can’t help himself. Love his energy.
This is everything I could want or need in a single unit and the price is nice too. Awesome stuff!
This is exactly the kind of thing I'm interested in. I love the idea behind the Quad Cortex and Helix and all that, but my brain starts smoking when I try to wrestle with all the settings and menu diving, etc. This looks like it might be the middle ground I might like. I'm not dumb, but I do long for simplicity wherever I can find it. :) I'd love a video demonstrating how to use a midi pedal to take advantage of presets, etc.
Like Pete says, it's not Quad Cortex for dumb people, it's QC for smart people!
Perfect timing, I'm struggling with my Line 6 POD GO. Selling that one and ordered this!
Boom, sounds amazing and great price. I love it. Just need a little midi footswitcher and I can do every amp preset known to man in my gig bag without a neuroscience and computing degree. Might add a couple of my own effects in the loop, but the onboards are sounding pretty ace anyway! Well done Blackstar and thanks Andertons for the great review as always.
I'm so excited for where guitar tech is going. Like in a few years something like this packing amazing amp models is gonna be a couple hundred dollars. Amazing how different this is than the Line 6 pods and spiders a lot of us got into guitar with.
When Pete is just noodling around in these videos it’s still better than anything I have ever played. 😂
I already own the AMPED 1 and it's amazing and I love it. It pairs beautifully with my PODGO. However, if I didn't feel like messing with the complexity of my setup I would definitely get an AMPED 2 for the simplicity and ease of use!! I kind of want it now!
Black star products are great every time I try them. I play an HT5R daily, and I am a cleanish blues rock player for the most part
Yeah, kind of similar thoughts to Lee. It's a handy little thing to gig with, but if it's your one piece of kit for home use, it would leave a lot to be desired. The urge to upgrade would always be there.
Great video and really shows off the pedal. Loved the humour too.
Wow This is a fantastic pedal!!!! I am extremely impressed with what this pedal can do. And at this price.
This is great! Great sounds. Flexible. Easy to use. You don't have to program on a screen to get tone and effects setup. The basic effects you need - Not hundreds to try to work through (although a noise gate would be nice). Amp\Cabinet and out to DAW or house. I'm getting one.
Definitely will get the job done. Great value.
3:20 Love how Peter is just riffing daft things to himself whilst the boss is explaining the pedal. He's like a kid 🤣🤣
Brilliant device! Excellent demo of its capabilities…
Super cool. Love it. I just bought a Hotone Brit Wind, which will fill that slot with a multi-effects pedal I have. In some theoretical world where I go VERY light to a gig, this would be super cool to use.
Give me one of these, a compressor and a vibe (maybe another overdrive flavour) and that'd cover me for almost every gig I've done in the last decade! On my Santa list for next Christmas 😎
I WAS WAITING FOR THIS because i saw all the american channels putting up videos of this!! crazy the first one came out just a few months ago
Love the guitar. What is it?
That Amp'Effect'Board for what it is and does, sounds nice enough at a way fair price' for most average players. Great playing' and yes that added 'secret Dane spice pedal' was so 'The' tone realm of 'keep that on'! Way sweet sounding Guitar also' Thank you Pete and Lee and Blackstar🎼🎸
Cool product. Great show.
Was Pete playing Mastodon for a split second? Blood and thunder? Hell yeah
I like the simplicity of it.
This thing is really fricking impressive 😱
Cool! I like the idea of having this on the studio desk or floor, and the cabinet anywhere in the room (or another room). I can see a special version that would have a 30-90 second looper.
Got it through today guys, wow what a bit of kit and quick postage! Just starting to do some videos on my channel about it.
Great solution. I like it a lot.
I enjoy the Capt. and Pete so much more than the other past presenters.
This solves a lot of problems I have. With the solid state power I can power my 2x12 cab instead of bringing my Vox ac30 out to a bar gig where I want to get in and out quickly. Due to some financial setbacks I sold most of my pedals off last year, so this having everything I would ever want in a small form factor is great! And the DI means I don’t have to mic up at the gig anymore saving me space by not having to bring a mic or a mic stand for my amp. Ultimately I think the sales point is my back hurts and it weighs 3 pounds!
Yes. This is perfect. I started off with modeling amps back with a Johnson JM250. It took me way to long to realize having so many options slowed me down. Instead of playing I’d be worried if I had the right Marshall amp selected. Maybe the jmp instead of the jtm would sound more like I wanted??? Or maybe if I used the sm7 mic instead of the sm57. Or on axis vs off axis. Yeah it was option overload. I do better with just a few basic knobs to turn. So lately I’ve been using an amplifirebox to keep to simple. This having a built on amp too seems like the next upgrade for me. :)
Feels great and sounds amazing. Technology has made so much progress since I started to play guitar! Great video again guys, thanks!
Nice demo!
nice demo long live Andertons
What a value rig!
excellent test !
A scaled down H&K Black Spirit 200 Floor. At its price point, it is a good buy. The one negative for me is no footswitching of the three amp settings. Other than that, it checks a lot of boxes.
purchased the amped 1 based on Andertons review .... hated it ,it sent it straight back !!!!!!
Proper pair of stools in the studio!!🥶
I dig it..& its simple enough for everyone...
You need another episode with Digital John to setup a midi controller with eternal effects.
So we are getting more and more floor amps
I like these a lot Maybe you could do a "full length vid" on the whole range .... titled: "2 hours of floor powers" including H&K, Victory, BlackStar, ...
Great vid ... thanks a lot
Brilliant playing by Pete at the start. Loved that slow piece! Could you tab it out by any chance?
Pete starts playing Owner of a Lonely Heart, that is awesome!
I just bought a Quilter Superblock UK. I love it. I think that this Blackstar Amped 2 is the next generation of that model. I also see that this type of thing IS the way things are going for the working musician. I gotta tell ya, my back hurts from lugging around a tube amp for years. I plug my Quilter into the board, I can use all the pedals on my pedal board, dial in my sound like I have on my regular rig and I'm off to the races, man. This stuff is great. I may have to check this try this one out.
I use a quilter Mach 3 and I’ve never been happier. 22 pounds and wonderful tone. I think this Blackstar unit would be epic for home practice/studio/silent stage.
Superblock UK is the easiest, best sounding piece of gear I’ve ever bought. I have a Fender Tonemaster Deluxe and I never use it bc of the Quilter
I've used the SBUK as my main amp since they came out. The Blackstar seems to use a similar voicing template, but judging by this review does not sound as good direct out with cab sims as the Quilter. If Quilter ever makes the Superblock Deluxe (with on board time based effects) it's game over.
Nice , an all in one pop in bag for gig / rehearsal solution , just need cab and you’re away . Not sure who will buy this though , a half decent multi fx and a lightweight combo will get you in the same ball park but hey it’s all about choice and there’s enough options for most playing situations 😊👍
You need a powered cab/monitor for multi fx, I like the idea of this going into real cab.
Is Pete a little intoxicated? Very funny (so long as it’s not prescription medication side effects). It’s amazing watching two people at the top of their games. I’m sure I’m not the only subscriber who thinks you set the standard for other similar channels
Great... we must try this!
Hello friend. A lot of Djent babies like my self love your channel and would love to see even just 2 mins of you cranking that gain up and djenting your heart out. In all seriousness it would be great to see you add in some High gain tones to your reviews as a lot of metal/djent guitarists are looking for something other than a 5150 or duel rec.
Thanks heaps and love your work!
We need a “Will it chug” episode on this lol
It really needs to be able to recall and store a few presets to be a viable option for me. The THR 10 has this nailed.
And that's annoys me in THR that knobs positions do not correspond to actual settings, I like the way Blackstar did.
I think Pete is correct. I think we are seeing the first of the home and garage band units coming out. They will cut their teeth on a few of these systems and as Lee so astutely observed, replace the circuits for a pro line really designed to emulate some of those Lexus pedals you hold so dear. I think it would be great to have when a small studio is all the space you have. I think the big amp head and cabinet designating us as guitar players are going to follow suit as well.
Really good job in production!!!
Yeah I can see where these things are going, overall I thought it sounded pretty usable and dead easy to figure out and use, obviously they will get better but if you don’t want or can’t be bothered with helix or quad cortex (me) or carnt afford that stuff these units will appeal to the inner caveman of many guitarists!
Pass at $650 USD. Still won't give up my great sounding Vox Tonelab ST. Gig with it and used ones in excellent condition can be easily found for $100 USD. Put in the pocket of my gig bag and off I go.
Whoa! Game changer here. I may have found my new emulator. I have to say, I’m frazzled by things like the Line 6 and Quad Core emulators with so many options. I was considering a BOSS GT-100, but this looks like it give you more. Going to have to weigh my options now.
Sometimes less is more. Less tubes, less pedals, fewer meters of cables/wires, less 60 cycle hum, less RF noise, less points of failure => More reliability, and trust-worthiness.
@@WarrenPostma “More is more” - Yngwie J Malmsteen
thank God for letting this made
Tech 21 have produced their Fly Rigs for years now that do this exact same thing. Tech 21 also came up with the whole concept of the "Sansamp" "amp in a pedal" concept back in 1989. That being said, the Amped 2 sounds really good here - but so does my Acoustic Fly Rig. :) (I understand that this is also a power amp to drive a cab, but honestly, I don't think that's necessary for a "rig in a pedal".)
Can see the victory pedal amp things going this way
Damn it, I’ve just bought the amped1!!!
I gotta say THAT was an awesome sound, even the effects were top draw, I understand Lee saying it's not the best, but i loved the sounds, but like Pete says, tweak a bit, it's an awesome bit of kit. footprint is small with BIG poke to it. Leon Todd went into the high gain area on this and it was a monster sound. You can add pedals on the way to it, but overall it's fantastic.
As Pete says Lee’s board costs the same as a car
Nice bit of kit at an amazing price, all the basic gigging sounds in a portable format... what's not to like?! Blackstar are definitely on a roll here! I also agree with Pete's thoughts, this is the start of a trend, basic useable gigging simplicity and who needs a brain melting box with 200 amps at your feet anyway lol Thanks for the demo guys.
@@BkBk-gy6vr name 3 more :)
@@BkBk-gy6vr how they are similar? With such logic every guitar pedal is similar. Amped 2 is an AMP + ESSENTIAL PEDALBOARD in one unit. I don't know any other unit like this. There are modelers with menu diving and without amplifier, and the are floor amps (BlueAmp, VOX Nutube floor amps etc), but without pedalboard with essential FXs. So, zerro alternatives so far.
@@BkBk-gy6vr you did not understand what device the Amped 2 is, and still call me clueless? :) For you any device in a pedal format that does something to guitar tone is the same thing? :)
@@SergeiVlassov It's really no different then the Katana head units though in what it does (amp + fx in a small footprint + the Katana head has a small speaker you can play thorugh) which have been around for some years now. The form factor is really cool, but it's not as revolutionary as made out in terms of function.
@@droliver it is not revolutionary for sure, it just don't have alternatives at the moment in terms of form-factor. You cannot put Katana head (+footswitch) in to your shoulder bag.
We are "the clever people" Pete! 🤜🏾✊️🤛🏼
Easy to manage volume levels for giging, recording and playing at home. Small, portable and cheap with on board cabinet simulation. All the essential amp types and effects. However there's just something about a real tube amps. I record with a two notes captor and it sound very good, but once I have to lugg all my gear around I think I would look for something more portable.
Damn this might be the ticket. I get stuck on I aesthetics sometimes, it's good there are good sounding, usable stuff.
As others note here, the relatively simplicity of this unit makes is a very engaging proposition, particularly at that price. The 3-way power switch enabling loud down to bedroom volume (or use for additional headroom) is great. But what I never like about demos like this and pedal comparisons is the emphasis on distorted sounds that lack dimension. If someone comes up with the gear to sound like like Mick Taylor during his Bluesbreakers time, I'm in.
A Polish company called Taurus makes pedal amps since 2011, they even have tubes in power amp section. I combined mine with a Tech 21 flyrig RK5 v2, so have most of the features the blackstar has and probably sounds better as well. ;)
Blackstar.... You're killing me here... I want it
I love to tweak things on my Helix and I know that this product isn't geared towards someone like that, but I know plenty of people who like the Helix but are put off by the nearly unlimited options... this is PERFECT for those and the price is right too I feel like.
My favourite bit was when Pete started talking about Tom Jones and when he'd finished Lee seamlessly carries on talking about the pedal.
Great Vid. Lee, would you mind letting me know where the new stools are from? Been looking for something like that for ever.
More innovations by what is (in my opinion) the amp developer putting out the best gear for gigging musicians at the moment.
I watched your entire presentation, and in my opinion, this is an excellent practice pedal. You don't need a bulky and expensive amp. You don't need to spend money on basic pedals. This pedal is for somebody who will use all of the effects it provides. However, if you want a more advanced setup such as a wet/dry/wet, then this might not be enough. I say "might" because I haven't looked at the manual yet to see if there is a way to output a dry signal before it goes into the modulation, delay, and reverb on this pedalboard. To use it as an amp only, I think that the pedal is too big for that purpose. Iridium and alike are still a better option for just an amp.
Captain not ready for the morning yet in this one. Pete’s just a little too sunny this morning for him to handle. 😂
I have a Vox ToneLab, the earlier version of this without the power amp though! Be interesting to do comparisons and see how the technology has advanced?
As a Blackstar fan I was seriously considering one of those, mostly because of the balanced out. Unfortunately, although it is basically a floor mounted ID100 it lacks the channel switching. Worse yet is the utter crap "Insider" and "Architect" software written in Microsoft Silverlight. Best thing Blackstar can do is to publish the software interface and enable Open-Source developers to produce a really good alternative for the ID family.
Hi! This stuff is cool but the coolest things is to ear Pete playing, he is such un awsome guitar player.
For a budget alternative to this I would go with a Boss ME-25 straight into the PA. People are selling those cheap everywhere. That being said, the tactile and simple layout of this is excellent. And of course its capabilities as a power amp.
God I love this. Now bust out some Poison and Warrant !!
And get me in that give away lol. Love you guys
Well, thanks to you guys, or because of you, I bought one of these. Only just started playing with it, but it seems pretty good. The US amp will likely be the only one I use much. The UK and Classic amps are just too noisy for my musical tastes. Have only spent an hour or two on it though, so maybe I can modify the settings on them to get something appealing also.
The only thing I'm hating about this is that I just bought an amped 1 guess... I'm selling that one soon. Amazingly powerful device!
thinking about getting one for my fly gigs.
A bit off topic, but would be so cool to review vintage gear that was popular over the years - a Line 6 POD (they seemed to be huge back in 2000s) Digitech RP range etc, to see how much pedals and equipment has advanced over the years! And also some of the not so tasty ones..
Check out The Studio Rats channel, they do that sort of thing
As a live rig in a rock band this prob would work just fine. Even for rehearsals easy and light to lug around. Super convenient. Wonder if that boost drive boosts volume too for leads or just saturates more when ur using like UK or classic.
I wonder what like a strymon, jhs, or Mxr version would be like.
I would quite like this to have a rack mountable version, probably without the power amp. My biggest gripe with playing thorugh my PC is that you have to open like 15 different pieces of software before you can even strum one chord. A rackmountable version of this would make it great to plug the output directly to your interface and have the interface always bypass that directly to the monitors. And then you can just turn this on and turn on your monitors and begin playing. No need to even turn on your PC. It would be awesome for late night practice, or to learn new songs with your comptuer.
