Slash’s blues-rock romp Orgy of The Damned debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Blues Albums Chart this spring. Now, the legendary guitar slinger is taking it to the people with his 29-date S.E.R.P.E.N.T. Blues Festival tour. When Slash’s Blues Ball Band played an intimate pre-tour gig at the Gibson Garage in Nashville, they invited John Bohlinger and the PG team.
Before shooting our Rundown with singer/guitarist Tash Neal and Slash’s tech, Ace Bergman, Slash sat down with PG for a chat. The maestro tells Bohlinger about how he found his blues sound on a 1963 Gibson ES-335 he picked up at Norman’s Rare Guitars in Los Angeles. That guitar was copied by the Gibson Custom Shop for the Slash 1963 ES-335 Collector’s Edition model, which he now brings on the road.
On Orgy of the Damned, Slash and company are digging into a different repertoire than his usual hard-rock-’n’-rollin’ fare. In this case, he’s re-exploring influences and old bands. “All these songs had … a very specific influence on me,” he explains. Back in the ’90s, Slash formed his Blues Ball Band, and he was inspired to pick that project back up, record, and hit the road to play “music that I really loved when I was a kid.”

@thseed7 while you're not wrong, it's almost impossible to have never heard of most of that stuff before clicking a "rig rundown". Also I'm not upset with him talking about them it's more with him giving a generic answer you could read on the box rather than explaining how slash uses them.

    Love that real tube 2203
Ox is great I also run
Torpedo captor x hoping UA gives us a OXbox version 2, been watching every namm but no dice yet
Your tone is great, mines not to shabby with numerous Marshalls and Boogies primarily my AxeFx3 can’t touch these live
I don’t care what anyone says
My ‘82 Marshall 2203 stack is all original and my first high end pro rig now it’s, plexis, jvm 410, DSLs, jvm 800s-900s
Then a hanfull of boogie’s including the mark vii, real tubes just sound better to my aging experienced ears
    Good vid!

What I would call a SUBSTANTIAL CONSISTENCY, an sound with that tone that can't be explained from language but only through the interaction , by you just play IT , AND FEEL IT !!!!

when you pick in mind a bunch of rock bands and most of them just sing those old stuff until today. Slash is a machine, a true rockstar who never get tired of create new stuff, he got three different kind of projects (GNR, SMKC and Blues Band). Its not just about money, cause he could stop going on a road after the money earned with the monster GNR tour

Love the cat in the hat! But never seen a guitar become a signature guitar as this 335 with literally no history or mojo attached to it. like the story is: yeah Norm sold it to me, I recorded an album with it. Enters Gibson: man let’s make a slash signature…. 😂

Have you seen how many signature Gibsons and Epiphones Joe Bonamassa has had? I was on his email list for a while (the volume of tchotchkes they try to hawk you is unbelievable) and there was a new one about fortnightly…

I think Veleno made the first aluminum neck guitars. In fact the whole thing was aluminum. I owned one for 20 years then sold it to a movie producer. Rock on.

I am not historically the world’s biggest fan of Slash’s playing after Lies or so, even though I also love snakes, but he’s a seemingly chill down to earth cat. I actually love hearing him play this way and on an ES-335! (The best Gibson model imo) Actually very interested in seeing them live.
