What a fantastic session. I had no idea Slash was so humble. I didn’t see one guitar that was “beat up”. These instruments were played to the max! The fact that Slash just hands them over to Mark when he takes them out says a lot about how generous and genuine Slash is. He's more than obviously a man who values people more than any material things of this rotten world. God bless you and yours, dear brother Saul(Slash). God bless you Mark. Gibson has a true loyal spokesman and guitar enthusiast in you my dear brother. I really enjoy your whole "The Collection" series. Especially when you went to Nerdville East with Joe B!💜☺👍
Say whatever you want about Slash, his image, his bands, whatever. The guy is a killer guitar player and has brought more attention to Les Pauls than probably anyone in history. He is such a cool, intelligent musician and also still very humble. This was one of the best Gibson videos yet, maybe the best. Kudos to Mark and the crew and thank you for the great guitar geek content.
The little duel thing he did with Gilby on the Use your Illusion tour that then turned into Wild Horses is one of my all time favorite guitar parts. Slash used the double neck SG for that, too.
I'm not even a Slash or GNR fan, but I really enjoyed this tremendously. He seems like a genuinely chill guy who loves guitars. And the host, thank god wasn't annoying and knew how how to keep things rolling without being intrusive \m/
@@markrosenquist8259 Why wouldn't they? Right after Jimmy Pages Telecaster, that's the next guitar that has sold most of the Les Paul's on this planet ;>
Love how he beats the crap out of his guitars on stage, but gingerly handles them taking them out and putting them back in their cases. I dig that commercial he's in too where he gets the nod to join the band with those kids! What a humble, down to earth guy.
This is THE BEST thing to come out on RUclips is absolute years. To see Slash so open and relaxed, no pressure and nagging from rig rundown presenters on limited time and busy schedules. No disrespect to Premier Guitar or likewise. But this just hits differently. I wanted a goldtop from the moment I saw Victoria on my brothers two Use Your Illusion live in Tokyo DVDs. Such a shame it got stolen, I never knew that. Would be amazing if he’d ever get it back, but it’s been 30 years. But we can always hope.
Thank you so much for this Gibson and our best regards to Mark. For the guitar/techies out there... There is still a lot of mystery here and a cult following with that red Mockingbird. I've been studying that guitar for 31 years ever since it was first seen in the 1991 "You Could Be Mine" video with Arnold at The Ritz. Slash says here it came with a Floyd Rose when he bought it. I remember very clearly though reading an interview with him during the Use Your Illusion Tour that when he first bought it, it had a Khaler tremelo and that he had someone route the body out to modify it for a Floyd Rose. It was a big deal for all the teenage shredders at the time to see him with a guitar other than a Les Paul at the time and all of a sudden BC Rich was popular again. Out of all the great knowledge and questions Mark has (we love you Mark) he didn't have Slash clear up the long-standing mystery as to whether or not this Mockingbird with Floyd Rose here is in fact the same Mockingbird that originally had the Khaler that was used in the "You Could Be Mine" video with Arnold. It's not just me either... There are so many Slash and BC Rich fans who have wanted to see Slash authorize an exact replica of that guitar. A lot of people say in these online guitar forums say "BC Rich already has one and it's called the 'SL' model." That 'SL' model though is nowhere close to his. Too many specs to list, just for one though, his has a maple neck, not Mahagony.
Same That guitar is so cool All I know is if I ever get a bc rich mockingbird if it doesn’t have a floyd rose I’m gonna put one on it It looks cooler with it
Damn, the original Appetite Derrig-Les Paul. You can hear those tones in your head as he talks about it. This is an incredible piece of RnR history. So glad Slash still has it - all those amazing songs recorded on this very guitar!🤯 Thoroughly enjoyed this interview!
One of my biggest influences ever. I was absolutely obsessed with Slash as a young player and to this day, I think he's one of the most unique or the most unique rock n roll guitarist on the planet. He is nobody but himself in his sound and compositions. Through studying music more as I've gotten older I am even more blown away today by his solos and compositions - how everything he does serves the song perfectly... His tone, his unique vibrato, his blend of classical sounds with blues. When he released the solo Slash album with the guest singers, I was absolutely blown away by those songs as instant rock classics. So cool. Nobody sounds like Slash! great video!
I 100% agree with everything you said. I was really confused when I saw Rolling Stone put him either #64 or #65 on their list of top 100 guitarists of all time. And I scrolled through the list of panelists and many of them are famous guitarists so he's being ranked by his peers. I'm not saying he should have been number one but at least in the top 20 I would think.
This is probably one of the coolest and most humble things I’ve ever seen such a high profile rock star do. I expect this will help sell many of those awesome Slash series Les Pauls just because of how cool and down to earth Slash is in this interview. Would love to see a part 2 with more cool “tools” and Slash stories. Well done Gibson and Mark and thank you Slash!
I’m a LP guy so I’m completely drooling over that dark burst 59’, but that cream Firebird is the one that really got my attention. How could you not love Slash, seems like such a cool guy, and by all accounts he is.
Guitars are racist. Rock music belongs to black people and was stolen from them. It’s important the we are ‘born again’ and instate a black-centric culture that corrects the inequities of the past… even if it means you have to give up things you enjoy… like playing guitar. Again, all guitar playing is racist.
It's so cool seeing Slash sober. He is so eloquent and knowledgeable. Glad he is able to share all of that with us. This was an amazing interview. Thanks!
This is so cool I remember sitting in the school library in the early 90's trying to find little snippets in magazines about these guitars. And here they all are in HD. So cool.
The craziest thing about the Appetite album is how it unfolded. It was released to the public for almost a year with practically zero sales or attention brought to it, only after MTV played Welcome to the Jungle at 4am one time did it get huge.
I never get bored if seeing Slash's interviews.... OMG... and this one especialy, when he speaks about his first GUITAR.... and he is so grounded.... I would be the happiest woman if i had a chance to enter his GUITAR collection.... You're Só cool.... forever fan....🎶🎸🤘🎶🎸🤘🔥🔥
For decades most of the les Paul standards are sold because of Slash. We love you man, thank you for inspiring so many guitar players all around the world. Proud to be a member of Slash and Gibson les Paul army
It’s great to know that Slash actually uses his collection. You hear about these beautiful axes sitting in a closet for decades, never to be played. My opinion is, if they hold a tune, and play…use them. That’s why they were made. Bravo Slash!!
So glad you shared that super valuable and incredibly important opinion on how guitars should be used, despite the controversial tone you said it in a comment section, and that takes a rare courage.
@@nayaleezy thanks Lee. I think the builders of the guitars would agree as well. The stories of those who have enjoyed these beautiful examples is the real value. Viva la musica!!
I few weeks ago I saw GNR live for the first time here in Mexico. I was like 10 meters infront of Slash and I am glad I saw this video before the show due I recognized several of these guitars at the concert. Mostly the "Jessica" one, he started the show with it. It was impressive tbh.
Slash is genuinly a great guy, an inspiration for all us us guitar players, and in my opinion the last of the real guitar heroes. The thing I love the most is that he keeps getting better with the years, his guitar playing nowadays is insane and the Conspirator records are up there with any of the early Gnr, as Snakepit or Velvet where too. Great episode and fuking great collection!! Keep em coming!
I would disagree with your claim that he is one of the last great guitar hero’s I think that he is one of the last of that generation There have been a lot of great guitars hero’s after slash Kurt Cobain Jack white Tim Henson Are some of the notable ones Definitely not the same kind of guitar hero as jimmy Page or David Gilmore but definitely have and will have a huge impact on music and the guitar community
John Mayer is a great hero he's better than everyone he's a complete guitarist who can blues, rock, jazz and literally any genre. He's a versatile guitarist and a great one indeed
His sound is one of a kind! Especially the way he approaches guitar the tone is just complimentary. Cool seeing all the guitars he uses, a testament to Gibson’s strong ass repertoire
Fantastic deep dive, might be the best ever due to the artist (Slash) being so open to talk and discuss all his guitars. Slash is so damn well spoken, has a story and specific details/likes as to why with each instrument. I purchased my Gibson when I was 18 over 25 years ago due to Slash playing one, and I still love my standard Gibson - love it.
Yes, I think there were guitars that were not covered like his Explorers, the Max Baranet Les Paul, the Night Train SG, some strats and teles that he has used, his Gibson acoustics, the black standard he used with GNR, you may have at least a part II right there
I fell in love with the Les Paul because of SLASH!! Wish! What a mighty and valuable collection of Les Pauls. Thanks Gibson for doing this series. Keep coming!! ✌🤘🥂
That comment about his desert island guitar must have melt some faces at Gibson :D Mark and team, thank you so much for making this series to happen, it's one of those things that's so good to be a rock and roll fan nowdays. Cheers

The dude isn't the problem. The problem is the middleman retailer. The middleman screws you and you never get these things. Every single one of these things are all hidden away, never to be seen ever again.
I didn't realize how much I liked Slash sort of thought he would be a rockstar but he's a regular gent that just happens to be Slash. Loved every minute great video. Hats off to Gibson and Norms top man.
This was absolutely epic. So much adoration and respect for Gibson guitars and a true rock n roll legend. And Mark did a great job. I'll watch this again. I know it
This is my second time watching. Just the vibe, the fact that it’s Slash…the lighting and the flow of the conversation….its almost therapeutic because of the way slash speaks.
Super impressed that they covered non Gibson's including the famous replica. Slash also just seems like a super nice bloke, with an impressive knowledge of some incredible gear 😮 Great vid, cheers
Yeah I don’t know about that Slash, I’m sure there are a lot of people that would love to geek out on guitars with you 😅. What a great episode! The acoustic Epiphone that someone gave him for babysitting when he was 16 and he still has it is incredible. Just for the fact he still has it. Very cool! And the Joe Perry story is awesome also, I’ve heard that before but damn that is so cool. The 59 dark burst has to be my favorite if I had to choose. So clean!!! Amazing guitar!
I was waiting for him to show his first gold top les Paul because he played it with the king of blues bb king! It was so cool seeing that guitar again he plays guitar so extremely well I love just closing my eyes and listening to him play! It was fun watching these guys get real professional at the beginning and then just getting really nerdy around his collection at the end. Glad I found this channel!
Love companies that show off other brands and show their appreciation for them instead of looking at them as a competitor. Gibson will always be my favorite!
That was awesome!! Slash seems really cool. I WOULD LOVE to see a Billy Gibbons episode... It'd probably be 3 hours long. But it needs to be done, and you guys are the guys to do it.
Brutal man this made my day :D Slash is not only guitar player but he is expert in guitars he knows everything about them, he know how to choose guitar and how to listen that guitars to hear the smallest and finest tone of guitar. I would like to meet him and walk through his guitar and amp collection and hear his playing with that guitars.
I know Slash doesn't read these comments but you are the main reason I play guitar. I finally was able to buy a November Burst this year and it's just magical.
I'm not Slash but love Reading peoples comments about guitar, the reasons they play and there favourite players. Keep playing brother. Music is endless.
I would love to see a Joe Bonamassa and Slash collaboration. Even if it’s just the two of them talking guitars. The two greatest Les Paul players of my lifetime.

Mark is so great. His knowledge about everything is beyond anyone but he isn't boastful about it. He doesn't try to prove he's smart; just confident in his abilities and his appreciations are pure
It's so refreshing to see an icon like Slash still get excited about his love for guitars, he is a class act.
This may be the best guitar series on RUclips.
Thanks for watching
I 2nd this.
@@gibsonguitar too bad this host is the most annoying person in the world.
@@gibsonguitar thanks for making them
@@gibsonguitar the pleasure was all mine. I'm seriously gonna watch it twice. You should make more of these....and more frequently. I've watched them all.
Thanks for watching
And the host, thank god wasn't annoying and knew how how to keep things rolling without being intrusive \m/
exactly what I was gonna write!
Mark is a good guy. So is Slash.
I see ur also a fellow Backslash M foreword slasher
I'm surprised that he prefers a Floyd over Kahler given the fact his main guitars are Les Pauls and have the string angle at the bridge like a Kahler.
Massive kudos to Gibson for letting him highlight his Derrig.
Very cool! I really can’t believe they allowed that. Such a beautiful guitar!
@@markrosenquist8259 Why wouldn't they? Right after Jimmy Pages Telecaster, that's the next guitar that has sold most of the Les Paul's on this planet ;>

I could watch this for hours. When Slash is comfortable with the host, he gives great interviews. You can tell the differance when he's not.
Hearing the backstory about these guitars after seeing them for years is awesome music history.
Billy Corgan got one of his stolen iconic guitars returned awhile back. There's always hope!!
29:15 *FINALLY* the guitar I have wanted to see up close and have him talk about for what has felt like a century.
Same
That guitar is so cool
All I know is if I ever get a bc rich mockingbird if it doesn’t have a floyd rose I’m gonna put one on it
It looks cooler with it
Oh hell yes!!! This is gonna be good.... Would also be cool to see Joe Perry's collection in a future episode.
Well said 👏👏
Slash,is God when he plays. Mr. Brown stone,is just dirty nasty, sexy sound.
That's my favorite album of his! Versatility for days!
The coolest person in our solar system. This dude laid down the baddest guitar solos of all time. Yet he's the most humble down to earth guy ever.

How could you not love Slash, seems like such a cool guy, and by all accounts he is.
One of the most wanted episodes.. thanks Gibson and Mark!🤩
The animal's full album
Waiting for Kirk’s episode! :)
What a solid dude, and you can tell he's a gear guy.
Not all of the icons are.
This rocked.
God damn it. THIS IS THE ONE I was waiting. Slash (and Jimmy Page) is without a doubt the most iconic Gibson player of all time.
Need Angus
Funny how Slash brought Gibson back with a fake Les Paul!
Peter Green, Gary Moore, Paul Kossoff and the rest.
Guitars are racist. Rock music belongs to black people and was stolen from them. It’s important the we are ‘born again’ and instate a black-centric culture that corrects the inequities of the past… even if it means you have to give up things you enjoy… like playing guitar. Again, all guitar playing is racist.
@@DS-nw4eq rock music is for everybody it was just invented by a few black people. Your post is nonsense.
Grabbing some beers and this is my Saturday evening sorted!! Can’t wait 😍😍🔥🔥
Dude! I’ll hang out with Slash all day any day and let him geek out about guitars! Great episode. Definitely some real gems there.
It's so cool seeing Slash sober. He is so eloquent and knowledgeable. Glad he is able to share all of that with us. This was an amazing interview. Thanks!
This is so cool
I remember sitting in the school library in the early 90's trying to find little snippets in magazines about these guitars. And here they all are in HD. So cool.
it makes me happy to see that Slash is healthy and well, because i want him to live forever…everything about him is so iconic
Agreed. There was a time when i was sure we'd seen the last of him.
I usually don't watch hour long videos, but I just couldn't stop listening to this. What a collection. 🎸❤
Slash got that raw talent, barely in his 20s when they created the appetite album, I could barely tie my shoes when I was 20
The craziest thing about the Appetite album is how it unfolded.
You can tell that compared to other interviews, Slash really wants to talk about these. He's excited and comfortable and opens up in a genuine way.
What a collection! And what a good dude! I never would’ve expected Slash to be so cool and down to earth.
Genuine great guy? I see, do you know him personally?
I would disagree with your claim that he is one of the last great guitar hero’s
I think that he is one of the last of that generation
There have been a lot of great guitars hero’s after slash
Kurt Cobain
Jack white
Tim Henson
Are some of the notable ones
Definitely not the same kind of guitar hero as jimmy Page or David Gilmore but definitely have and will have a huge impact on music and the guitar community
John Mayer is a great hero he's better than everyone he's a complete guitarist who can blues, rock, jazz and literally any genre. He's a versatile guitarist and a great one indeed
And secondly I don't think Kurt Cobain belongs in the great guitarists list honestly though you can definitely include RHCP's guitarist
@@prabhavghoshdastidar8639 how many people picked up guitar because of Kurt you think? I know I did and I'm sure thousands of others did as well
Every time the guitar enter the case, Slash reach the lock, and locked it. He really appreciate his guitars. Very nice gesture. Great video!
His sound is one of a kind! Especially the way he approaches guitar the tone is just complimentary.
Cool seeing all the guitars he uses, a testament to Gibson’s strong ass repertoire
Still gets excited about his guitars and so down to earth what a great guy and undoubtedly the best guitarist ever
This should be a 10 episode series with Slash alone. The guy has more Gibson's than any store I can think of.
Yes, I think there were guitars that were not covered like his Explorers, the Max Baranet Les Paul, the Night Train SG, some strats and teles that he has used, his Gibson acoustics, the black standard he used with GNR, you may have at least a part II right there

I was just wondering when y’all were going to do a Slash collection, and low and behold y’all read my mind! Keep up the great work Gibson!
I love the passion here. It really comes through. thank you for this!
This is my second time watching. Just the vibe, the fact that it’s Slash…the lighting and the flow of the conversation….its almost therapeutic because of the way slash speaks.
I thought for sure they would avoid other brands and I love that they shined a light on B.C. Rich. The Mockingbird is fantastic.
What a treat.. beautifully filmed and produced as always. Gibson TV is top quality.
Super impressed that they covered non Gibson's including the famous replica. Slash also just seems like a super nice bloke, with an impressive knowledge of some incredible gear 😮

That was awesome!! Slash seems really cool. I WOULD LOVE to see a Billy Gibbons episode... It'd probably be 3 hours long. But it needs to be done, and you guys are the guys to do it.
