Totally agree. At first when I saw him I thought he was trying to just look like Izzy but after hearing him play and once I heard him speak I realized he was good people. In addition Richard & Slash blend so Damn well together!!
Egregious Richard’s writing and guitar playing was really incredible on his partnership with Richard Butler on the two Love Spit Love albums. I had the good fortune of seeing him twice in that format in Portland and it was amazing. Big fan.
I was lucky enough to meet Adam Day about 20 years ago when Slash was in town. He gave me a tour of all of Slash's guitars and amps. He gave me strings and picks. And I still have them all too. I didn't appreciate how nice it was for him to do that at the time. He was so cool to give me one of my best memories. Thanks Adam.
What a brilliant run down. It all kicks off with Richard Fortus at around 35mins. This guy is so involved in everything and has some amazing custom guitars
Billy McGuire I think you are right for the most part, from what I've seen it seems like he tries to upstage slash sometimes, other than that near perfect to play in izzys place
Def. and he is absolutely underrated when today`s people talk about G'n'R he is an absolute great player, probably the best they ever had next to slash. Technique and feeling ++ I wish I could say that abouzt their actual drumnmer.
I clicked for Slash, I stayed for Fortus...... He's so easy going and knowledgeable, and a great guitar collection also. I don't care how long it takes I would watch if they showed all of them.
I clicked for Duff and stayed for Slash, Slash is one of the reasons I started playing guitar, I even play as him on Guitar Hero 3, I play as him in career mode. Slash is an amazing guitarist! I love Slash as a guitarist!
Woe. Richard Fortus is really into his gear! Probably the best rig rundown I’ve ever seen. So passionate and determined to get the right sound. I don’t even care about Slash’s sound anymore after seeing this guy.
This is the best rig rundown you've ever done, and it's all thanks to Richard Fortus. What a great guy. Man, I'd sit and drink and talk guitar bullshit all day long with him. Brilliant stuff.
Slash's tech is a very busy man. This guy goes through hell just to deliver a basic Les Paul into a Marshall tone. Slash doesn't even do any switching. I hope this guy's getting paid well.
I absolutely LOVE Richard. He's such a great player with incredible energy. I was fortunate enough to catch these guys 3 times on their tour and he was an absolute joy to watch. I also love his passion and enthusiasm about his gear in this interview
Last time they did the Rig Rundown of GnR, all 3 guitarists (DJ, Bumblefoot, and Richard) did the rundown themselves. All 3 of them are gearheads, to a great extent. On the contrary, Slash and Duff are more focused towards simply playing their instruments and simply rocking the show. I'd have respect for both kinds of players, honestly.
Adam Day is a busy man changing strings every 8 songs, controlling amps and effects, being ready with a new guitar every song. That dude is not sitting around.
JASON Wolstone I sure hope it’s more then 2,500 a week. That’s only 120,000$ Slash brings 120,000$ a week himself. I’m sure slash isn’t stingy to a lifelong friend.
Richard Fortus - nailed it! What genuine enthusiasm for his gear and his craft! Great rig run down of one of the greatest rock bands. Thanks to all who contributed- but especially Richard Fortus. You rock!!
Man that discussion with Richard Fortus was perhaps the best interview I have seen on Premier Guitar. Both geeking out hard about guitars, lots of cool info, and quite funny. 10/10.
Jeremy Hamilton I can see you don’t have to be a good player there’s 20 different sound effect modules to play though what ever happened to just plug in and play it looks like the guy with the most money wins
Fortus is such a class act. Not only he's an insane guitar player, he's a gearhead like no other. Shame that Slash or Duff didn't feel like doing the rundown themselves.
Slash has done these kind of things before, also, Adam is much more qualified to talk about his rig anyways (since Slash isn't a gearhead in particular) .
Watching you and Richard Geek out over his Rig and gtrs was like watching two 8 year old boys Christmas morning LOL. The absolute joy and happiness on both of your faces says it all! Great Rig Run Down by far my favorite. Great Job!!
I love that Richard took the time to personally run us through his rig. Not only is he a killer guitarist and gear nerd extraordinaire, he also seems like a friendly guy.
When Slash done his UK tour a few years ago, he had his usual Marshall cabs on stage, but, he had another 4x12 isolated off-stage which was rented out by John Henry's Ltd. which was on loan from Ashdown Engineering. On one tour, it was a UK made Ashdown (Hayden) Celestion V30 loaded 4x12, a little while later, Ashdown took it back and put it up for sale on Reverb as B-stock. I went and bought it. It's use by Slash was officially confirmed by Ashdown and John Henry's Ltd. Great buy. :)
i don't even listen to GnR, and still spent an hour+ geeking out on this gear. wan't expecting to end up a Richard Fortus supporter, either. but that dude actually seems like someone i would enjoy spending time around
I've been waiting for this since the day I discovered the Rig Rundown. I remember, first one I saw was Brian May, and it was mind blowing. Thanks a ton guys.
Richard Fortus rocks, saw them play last year and I was blown away with his playing, perfect in the context of GnR, and his passion on stage just shows. And how awesome it is that he is so humble and knowledgeable about guitars and gear...
richard fortus. he doesnt just play guitar. he lives guitar. my kinda guy with my kind of passion and love for music and guitars as a whole. i just love how he doesn't stick to one brand. he happily tries old and new guitars from known to lesser known brands and he obviously loves guitars with a soul created by the designer. he just seems so open to everything. if it plays well and sounds good, he's game. total respect.

I never knew Richard was such a cool person. I watched the entire video. I coulda watched another hour of Richard talking guitars and amps. Great video. I like the fact you brought a lot out of Richard without saying to much and just asking the right questions. Nice job man.
Richard, you are so appreciated by guys like myself who will never get enough of your tech talk and amazing guitar playing and god-like guitar tone. Slash is one of my favourite players on earth and it just makes GNR so much stronger with you in the band. I met you backstage back in 2006 and prayed you' would be the guy to be still standing when Axl and Slash put their stuff to rest and here you are. You were just as enthusiastic talking about gear and guitars as you are in this great interview. God bless you and I wish you every success brother!
I have to say that Richard explaining his guitars and setup was like seeing a kid entering a candy store.. before clicking this video, i thought that this would be the least interesting part of the video, but boy was i wrong. I have seen GNR twice here in Europe within the "not in this lifetime" tour, and his playing was on point, which had already impressed me then, but this video has definitely put him onto a new level for me. All that while he seems to be a humble and very down to earth guy. I might have to look around to try out some of the pedals he has mentioned.
I love all the support and positive comments for Richard, I personally am so glad he's apart of the "reunion". He belongs in the same sentence as Slash, Izzy and Gilby as true GNR guitarists.
i agree, with the chinese democracy guitarists, (DJ ashba, Bumblefoot, and richard) i always thought dizzy and richard (and sometimes axl) where the only ones who where doing there parts good, chris kept turning his synth to loud, dj ashba kept messing up causing frank to get confused and go out of time, bumblefoot kept shredding, using his fretless and turning on the distortion in the wrong places. Dizzy knows when to turn up and when he needs to be subtle, same with richard, they know what there supposed to be doing.
Before Richard was with the gn'r version with slash I've had a chance to talk with Richard on facebook a time or two and let me say he is exactly like he is in the video , a genuine person and total guitar nut .we've talked about gear and he will give you advice here and there whether it's music or gear , truly a nice person and and even better player .way to go Richard !
Adam day "hers slashes Gibson" MC Bob "here's duffs fender" Richard "I got this guitar from a guy in LA, do you know him, well he makes phenomenal guitars" Richard likes guitars if there good, he doesn't care about brand
I mean Slash and Duff have custom made instruments, either exact copies of their 80s instruments or signatures designed by them and probably free. So technically they still have their first ones. But it’s just a cool thing that Richard can do, he doesn’t have to be “loyal” to a sound for 30+ years and he definitely exploits it.
slash is absolute legend. amazing. so generous to give a guitar away that costs more than the median home price in california. hes a real person. love slash

That was one of the BEST interviews that you guys have done. And you included BASS too. So Thank you. Awesome interview. This may have beat out your older AC/DC one which was top of the top. !
I love how Mr. Fortus geeks out talking about all the small shop custom builds. I’m just getting Into guitar playing, originally started on bass. That black 335, are those style any good for acoustic playing or amp only?
Imagine Duff or Slash trying to explain this stuff 30-35 years ago, couldn't remember anything about the rig settings :)). Awsome guys these days better than in their prime and the interfere of Rich with this rundown was really such a catchy and natural add on
Fortus is a joy to listen to play, listen to his rig run down and to watch on stage. He's the real deal and I think it's awesome that Slash gives him some time to shine. If you walk into a GNR show wondering who the other guitar player is, Richard wills you with his playing to GTS and find out.
The real man here is Richard Fortus... that takes time to actually talk about his gear and share his passion for guitars and music with us... that's what it's all about; not like others that are "too much of a star" to even do the rig rundown by themselves...
Phil Smith slash and duff aren't gearheads, they know what works for them but couldn't explain it as well as their techs. Richard on the other hand knows his shit

Richard Fortus is officially the coolest guy to ever be on a Rig Rundown.
lol it was more of a chat about gear he uses
Humble guy
Richard is a total class act. No rockstar attitude BS. Just a straight shooter sharing his passion for music and performance. Way to go Rich!
The bit with Richard Fortus is especially good :) Watching you two geek out is great! :)

Richard Fortus is such an awesome guy. He's such a great complement player to Slash, and he's one knowledgeable guy with gear.
Agreed. If anybody was gonna' replace Izzy, I'm glad it was him.
He really is a great guy and perfectly fits his role in the band. Honestly, he's a better player than Izzy as well.
I love Richard. He has been loyal to Gun N Roses for a long time now. I enjoy watching him on stage.

Absolutely. I would love to just sit down with him, have a few beers and just chat about gear
He's one of the nice guys!!
His enthusiasm, passion, and attitude is infectious. AMAZING player.
Lucky enough to get to chat with him when he was in the Dead Daisies. Top bloke :)
That's awesome!!

i was so happy they got Richard again, other than just the two techies Mike and Adam
Slash's tech is a very busy man. This guy goes through hell just to deliver a basic Les Paul into a Marshall tone. Slash doesn't even do any switching. I hope this guy's getting paid well.
He works for Neal schon of journey too I think he’s doing alright financially
Slash also plays 10 different guitars each show. The tech works plenty
He's not but Saul's son london is super rich@
I absolutely LOVE Richard. He's such a great player with incredible energy. I was fortunate enough to catch these guys 3 times on their tour and he was an absolute joy to watch. I also love his passion and enthusiasm about his gear in this interview

And if he changed the strings every 8 shows, aside from broken ones, not a single person would hear the difference including himself and Slash
@@joelyates3199 but slash drives his strings to the end. One more song and they would break, and that's not getting to the playability

Richard was AWESOME!!! what a humble and nice guy (and a very "guitar geek" too)
I can see why this guitar tech has been with Slash for 30 years... he’s a super competent and just a solid guy

Having Adam Day doing it, at least for me is the second best thing.
I'm pretty sure slash wouldn't be able to explain his rig more than 'er, the guitar signal goes through a wah pedal and into a couple marshalls"
True...true. LuLz
richard fortus? who ? jajajajajajajajajaja
Slash has done these kind of things before, also, Adam is much more qualified to talk about his rig anyways (since Slash isn't a gearhead in particular) .
I could listen to Richard talk about guitars and his gear all day long. Love his enthusiasm.
Richard Fortus is literally one of us. Its so great to hear a gear geek like him talk with John and just elaborate on the nuance of his rig.
I just became a Richard Fortus fan. The fact he took the time to gear geek out with John was awesome! Best part saved for last!
Richard Fortus ranks among the best, I didn't want this Rig Rundown to end.
The Ganz he has the biggest nose in the world!

I forgot how killer that Richard Fortus interview is. They hit it off like old friends
Richard looks super young! Can't believe he's 51. Awesome guy!
Miguel Valadez John Bohlinger is probably the youngest guy in the video lol.
WOW!!! I had no idea!! I'm 36, with very similar features and build, and he looks better than I do!
I think Bolinger is around 50 himself. 50 is like the new 30 or something hehe.
Nah, he looks and sounds his age
Richard was the best part of this rundown. Like it was his first gig still passionate about the playing.

Wow, Slash is a obviously a really serious hard hitting player. He's created priceless trashed guitars.
At least he actually plays them.
I see you in the comments of every single video I watch, I go on your channel only to find nearly 2 billion views!
Thanks for the video. Great to see Adam Day back as Slash's tech. I knew nothing about Richard Fortus before and he seems to be a really great guy!
I remember when Richard Fortus's band "Pale Divine" was probably the biggest band in STL back in the day. Now he is playing for GNR. Cool shit!

And then Gibson made a copy of that.

my first encounter with fortus, this vid. what a lovely, enthusiastic, knowledgable bloke.
Fortus just went to the top of my "Guitarists I'd Love To Hang With" list. What a top guy! So passionate about gear.
Saw them last year. I was shocked how clean Slash’s “distorted” sound was. The amp was just driving enough to get sustain and that’s it. It sounded crystal clear. Really enlightening.
Richard looks like an amazing guy. I love how he has all kinds of boutique gear instead of the standard big brands. He really put a lot, lot of effort in his sounds. Pretty cool!

Imagine Duff or Slash trying to explain this stuff 30-35 years ago, couldn't remember anything about the rig settings :)). Awsome guys these days better than in their prime and the interfere of Rich with this rundown was really such a catchy and natural add on
BEST VIDEO OF PREMIERE GUITAR CHANNEL EVER!!
AC/DC's rundown is the one for me, more in depth with Angus' amps etc
+Robert G this one and acdc are the best!!! Trace Foster and Adam day are awesome guitar techs
@@g1344304 i loved acdcs rig rundown. it was so interesting
Richard is a tone Guru, learned so much from this rundown.
Fortus is a joy to listen to play, listen to his rig run down and to watch on stage. He's the real deal and I think it's awesome that Slash gives him some time to shine. If you walk into a GNR show wondering who the other guitar player is, Richard wills you with his playing to GTS and find out.
love how passionate Richard gets. His entire face just lights up. Absolutely awesome.
Looks like an ok way to spend your day...
Thanks for the great video John + Premier Guitar!
Richard is so brightly lit that he looks like a 17 year old hahahah, don't get me wrong though, I love that guy!
I feel relieved for the tech that slash uses les Pauls. Imagine having to restring that many Floyd roses 😬
man.. richard is such a good player.. unfortunatly so underrated he deservse more
I would love to see a Jam Session, Gear Talk with John Bohlinger and Richard Fortus
Fortus comes off sounding like such a damn nice guy, down to earth and you can smell the enthusiasm he has for his gear. LOVE that.
Richard on the other hand knows his shit
lol at this horseshit.
