It’s awesome that Joe is doing his own rig rundown. Most guys with any level of success seem to have their guitar techs doing it, instead of themselves.
Level of success is debatable. The rig rundowns with techs (GnR, U2, Def Leppard, etc) are on many levels of success higher then Joe. Also, Joe loves talking about gear. You can find many videos of him talking tone and gear at great length.
Greg Golightly I agree to a degree. Joe is currently touring the world and selling out nightly. He also has endorsements and signature gear from major companies. He sells records and DVD’s in high numbers around the world. Those are all signs of current success. Several of the groups you mention used to be big but couldn’t currently sell much. Joe's 60-second explanation of how to "find your own space", starting at 44:25, should be mandatory viewing for all musicians with ambitions of playing in band.
Absolutely!! Most bands you see in clubs and smaller venues (and in the UK ‘pubs’) have an awful sound due to their complete lack of understanding of frequencies and where each instrument sits in the mix. I’ve left bands because of the frustration and ear bleeding mush of sound, watching audience members wince. How many musicians think it’s a volume problem and everything is solved by telling each other constantly to turn it up or down to be heard 😤😖🤬. Joe constantly spoke of which frequency his sound produced and sat in the mix how it would destroy the Hammond organ and clash with the cymbal sound etc. Hallelujah, now I will share the link with any band member (especially guitarists and the ultimate dark destroyer the bassist😁) and say listen to a master and what a true professional needs to know 👏🏻

I don't really understand those thumbs down, Joe is great guitarist, simple and humble guy. If you don't like his music nobody forcing you to watch and listen. I wish we got more of young generation playing music like him.
Theres nothing quite as awesome as watching another musician who genuinely loves every instrument in history for its strengths and takes joy in the conversation about them. Had butterflies in my stomach this entire hour video
One thing I notice whenever I watch a video where Keith Richards is mentioned. Nobody seems to speak to Keith, they get tours around his rigs, they speak to his techs but Keith remains a mythical enigma. Even to stars like Joe. I find that so great.
I absolutely love Joe's character and humility. Here is a man who has worked his fingers to the bone to achieve the success he has had, and who has invested it right back into his passion for music and gear. The fact that he can afford rigs like this every night of his tour, testifies to just how successful he has been as a musician. And with all that success, and this much, uncompromised knowledge, he remains grounded, humble and a true fan of the electric guitar. His love for these guitars has preserved their place in history. That's a special thing that so many others have long lost. Where some of these instruments may have gotten into hands where the stories they once told become blurred and lost with time, not so with Bonamassa. I don't have to hope he will always stay this way, because he just will. Decades have held testament to it, and many more will undoubtedly continue to do so. Those guitars have found a home with Joe that will one day be as historical as the stories he has so lovingly unearthed and shared with us in this video. Such a cool guy. From one musician to another (if he even sees this), you give me great hope and faith that music, success, humanity and humility can cohabit the same creative ecosphere, Joe. This video was brilliant.
His dad was a wealthy guitar collector that set him up for a career. Not diminishing his accomplishments, but let's not act like he didn't start on third base.
The best thing about joe is that he takes over a half million dolars in vintage guitars on tour with him, and he is always willing to shere it stories and talk aboyt them. I simply love Joe, never saw a "rockstar" so humble as him
For some unknown reason to myself,i always thought i didn't like joe bonamassa, then i watched a random video of him talking, how wrong was i!!one of the most humble and likeable guys ever!!so glad youtube recommends stuff that i've never searched before!great interview.
God bless you Joe. He is the hardest-working blues man on the face of the Earth. He was raised with good morals and a hard work ethic instilled by his parents with loving support. Recently met and had conversation with his father a true gentleman and stand-up guy. Joe deserves everything good that comes his way had the pleasure to meet him several times he's genuine personable and great man in all aspects he still the same man I meant many years ago keep doing what you do Joe thank you sincerely.
Joe's a down to earth regular guy with common sense, and total honesty. Not many celebs have his quality . How much more American can you get ? He doesn't brandish his attributes, and success. He puts them to good use for all of humanity to enjoy. Thank God for Joe Bonamassa .......
I love the fact that Joe is down to earth, even though he owns all these vintage guitars and has mad skills on the guitar. Good sense of GUITAR humor too. All the vintage guitars I've owned I sold or traded before vintage prices when through the roof. Play on Joe!
I bought my main bass from Joe’s Dad in Clinton, NY quite a few years ago, also when Joe was in town practicing for his tour they used my bands amps and practice space to get ready. It was an honor Joe and his dad are both good guys.
I've never really listened to Joe Bonamassa but have seen all of the online hate and derision directed to him. He seems like a decent guy who's out there playing guitar for a living. He knows what his niche is and how to do it well. More power to him.
Toxic Potato so it’s Joe’s fault who comes to his shows? It seems a little odd to condemn a musician who’s fringe fans state their opinions on blogs.. not to mention Joe founded a charity dedicated to literally keeping the blues alive within younger generations. So no, it’s not “quite simple”.
I dont' think that's what he's saying, what he's saying is that unfortunately Joe is the kind of person that those people look up to. It's not Joe's fault, and to be honest, he probably doesn't like the association. He's pretty candid about being an "old man", but he's definitely not one of the pricks you see on PG comments shouting about how anything that isn't 1970's blues is shit. Fucking yawn.
@@ParkerP29 I don't think that's what he's getting at, Joe has put down things like pedals. Where he owns every amp and guitar people could want to get his sounds. Others need pedals to get the sounds they want because they can't crack a super lead or do multi track recording in a studio. So he came off as kinda upity in regards to gear. I don't think that was his intention, but it was a written interview so you got no tone out of his voice. Atleast that's what I think he was referring to I could obviously be wrong.
And this is why they do these little interviews. People forget they are just regular people and have to be reminded with little personal shows like this I think. Good for PR. Makes you like them as people instead of just some out of touch star. Works for me. I don’t like his style of music but he can play for sure and I’m glad he’s found his thing. Seems like a regular Joe 🤨.
Toxic Potato but you have to consider the other side of the situation too . many modern players into modern styles constantly say things like blues rock needs to die because no one under 65 cares about it when that is just not true I know many poeple who love modern metal and old school blues rock . the poeple we ate talking about here are the fringe fans . I think you would find that the blues dad's are not the majority of joes audience but because of the internet their voices are the only ones heard . I think most of his fans just love good music no matter what the genre and I bet joes record collection is pretty diverse .so I don't think it's fair to label joe or his core fan base as being blues dad's and vintage cork sniffing homos. like wise you get alot of modern players who accuse anyone who prefers vintage gear and vintage music as being a cork sniffer of listening with their eyes but that's just a fringe group as well but it seems the voice of the fringes seem to be heard the loudest . one side is every bit as bad as the other . if people who play guitar are going to attack others for having different preferences then they should find another hobby because guitar is all about preference . I also think it's fucked up that so many people think that if you say you prefer one genre over another or one guitar over another etc. you are saying the other one is shit . just because a person prefers a vintage guitar over a modern one does bot mean they think the modern one is shit . it's like people have forgotten that objectivity exists people need to stop worrying about people who don't like what they like .
I seen Joe Play more times then I can count. I know the guy is a gear nerd and to him this is just as good as playing on stage. The guy never disappoints at any show every show I seen of his is 100 percent pure entertainment. The first show I ever went to he had a lot of gear and effects processors on stage I see he has cut back on some of his gear. If you get a chance to see him play go its 100 percent worth every penny.
Come on. Keith Richards could buy that collection 20x, and it wouldn’t make a dent in his net worth. Guitar collecting for the sake of it, is just vulgar. It’s for the desperate
This right here rundown is a crash course on guitar geekery: History, Tone Crafting, Playing in a Band, Ear Training for subtle tonal variations, it’s got it all
As of 10:37pm, 4/2/2019 there are 211 very insecure, ignorant or just plain angry loners who selected the ''thumbs down'' . What were you expecting to see when you chose to watch these two thoroughly entertaining people, who are both very good at what they do? Regardless, Joe Bonamassa is an exceptional player, period. That he is helping to keep the torch burning for us blues & blues rock fans, speaks volumes about the guy and the band he has built are all superb players in their own right. Also, John Bollinger is a seriously genuine guy who also loves guitars, know's how to interview people and is knowledgeable beyond the average guitar geek. Both of them are thorough gentlemen in my book. Well done both of them.
There's one born every minute sadly. I laughed and learned and thoroughly enjoyed every moment. Joe is a real funny guy has a gentleman and the chemistry between John and he is just great . Best rundown I've seen. Spot on
Joe Bonamasso is a national treasure and one of those people who are open about everything. He doesn't pretend to have a secret sauce, he just cranks it up and goes.
Great interview John. I got a chance to meet Joe in Vancouver. He was coming out of the venue at 10 minutes to midnight and took the time to talk, take a picture and thank us! What a fantastic talent and down to earth person.
Dude us a grear interviewer. He ask questions and lets the guitarist answer shit we know he knows, to make it all about rhe guitarists. It's actually freaking brilliant.
I have to be honest this is the first time I've really hear Joe chat about stuff and he really comes off as a very nice and very down to earth guy. I must say I am extremely impressed. Truly one of the good guys.
I’ve never listened to Joe’s records, songs, or live videos, but I’ve probably watched 1000 hours of interviews on RUclips. His guitar knowledge is so awesome and is applicable across the entire spectrum of electric guitar based genres. Just an amazing player and a legend.
Wow! you can tell he really loves every guitar he has he remembers the backstory on all of em instantly you can tell its really important to him! Very inspirational.
I absolutely love how Joe just let's his playing speak for him instead of having the type of attitude that ruins it all. He reminds me of the old humble mechanic that can make a kid want a '57 Chevy instead of a brand new Corvette.
John is an amateur and it clearly shows. He is very wet behind the ears and cannot play his way out of a paper bag. He just got lucky but that only lasts so long. Back to Montana Johnny...

I just seen Joe live in Lexington Ky and all I can say is DAMN! 15 minutes within the show I was ready to go home and weld a guitar to my balls. So inspirational 🎸🔥
Say what you will about him, but Bonamassa seems like a super-nice, down to earth, articulate kind of guy with a real love for music, gear, playing, and Bohlinger seems the perfect interview/foil to help make it all happen. Great stuff.
PG should have Joe Bonamassa and Jason Isbell sit down and talk about guitars for an hour, I would pay to watch that. They have the two best Rig Rundowns of all time.

I don't really understand those thumbs down, Joe is great guitarist, simple and humble guy. If you don't like his music nobody forcing you to watch and listen. I wish we got more of young generation playing music like him.
well, no more thumbs downs for the trolls that hate on Joe now. thanks youtube, they can go cry in their basement now. haha
PG has been killing it lately with the Rundowns. G.E. Smith, The Edge, Bonamassa...
"when you have a tremolo bar everyone turns into Eddie in 1987" hahaha!
We all have those friends 😅
RIP, Eddie: so good and such as a legend that he's the name we reach for when making jokes.
The EVH influence is eternal!
RIP EVH
I say Blackmore 1968

Those amps sound incredible....
Didn't his family own a music store?
Where is you're signature fender amp Tom?
@@ericsmodsandgear8098 Don't mind Tom. Tom is a troll.
Not even close to true. His dad owned a guitar shop and he bought and sold instruments but very middle class.
The best thing about joe is that he takes over a half million dolars in vintage guitars on tour with him, and he is always willing to shere it stories and talk aboyt them. I simply love Joe, never saw a "rockstar" so humble as him
I thuly believe that whe you asign emotional value to your gear it gives you back the same love.
@@ManuelMartinez09 I believe that too.
I love how Joe knows how people are going to react - "...And these other two amplifiers - OMG, here we go with the hate..."
For some unknown reason to myself,i always thought i didn't like joe bonamassa, then i watched a random video of him talking, how wrong was i!!one of the most humble and likeable guys ever!!so glad youtube recommends stuff that i've never searched before!great interview.
Watch a few more. It will wear thin.
I love Joe's self-deprecating humor, he and I would get along great!!
True. I don’t understand there are so many JB haters. Why? He is a really nice guy i guess. How womderful you met him!
This is not work, he loves it and is why he is so great at it. Most people take a job to make money, they are the losers in the world...
i ran into him at a guitar center a few years ago one of the nicest guys ive ever met. and a wealth of information about gear.
John is truly one the best guitar interviewers in our modern day. Would be intrigued to hear his own music.
Ive watched this 30 times. Makes me laugh everytime. The love shown by both of them for the craft is amazing
Joe’s passion for his guitars, amps and music history in general is absolutely incredible!
Listening to Joe talk is amazing. Such a wealth of knowledge. He is a Music Mad Scientist.
exactament
Love the fact that Joe immediately does his own interview. What a badass
Well over 1 million dollars in that road case, crazy.
And another 100 grand in amps. 2 fucking dumbles....only JB would do that.
Those Dumbles would go for $100-$125K each EASILY.
Come on. Keith Richards could buy that collection 20x, and it wouldn’t make a dent in his net worth. Guitar collecting for the sake of it, is just vulgar. It’s for the desperate
Hey, some people dream of owning a Picasso or a Ferrari, I dream about classic guitars.
Since he uses them for work...does he write them off as a business expense? 🤔🤔🤔
Probably my favorite run down ever
Spot on
just saw Joe at the Greek a couple of weeks ago. Amazing show. He is a living legend.
Love that sound of that Les Paul & his amps. Total power!
My favorite rundown ever....great job man...what an honor to be in your shoes john
Joe Bonamasso is a national treasure and one of those people who are open about everything. He doesn't pretend to have a secret sauce, he just cranks it up and goes.
Got to see Joe in Hershey last evening thanks to a very generous brother in law. Wow what a player and a great band. He played over two hours straight
That was an awesome show. I liked the Tele work the best, not just all turned to 10. First show for us, not the last ...
It would be great if every guitar store had a guy like Joe working in it.
Hey Boss, I gotta leave a little early tonight again. Yeah! sorry I got another gig I promised the guy's I would show up for. eh heheh
Great interview John. I got a chance to meet Joe in Vancouver. He was coming out of the venue at 10 minutes to midnight and took the time to talk, take a picture and thank us! What a fantastic talent and down to earth person.
John is a national treasure as well. He's passionate about music and gear, and it shows. You can't fake that. God bless you, sir.
The expression on John's face is one of genuine surprise at Joe's words. He's such a humble man. They are both a monster guitar players.
I Love hearing Joe talk about his guitars. He is so passionate about his collection.
John's reaction to his playing being praised is to die for. It's especially great when you consider John is 13 years Joe's senior.
John is an amateur and it clearly shows. He is very wet behind the ears and cannot play his way out of a paper bag. He just got lucky but that only lasts so long. Back to Montana Johnny...
@@ajsmusic2561 I grew up in Nashville and have been familiar with John Bohlinger as a player all my life, you're full of shit. Dude's a top notch session guitarist and he's in high demand. PG didn't hire him for no reason, and if Joe tells you you're good, you're good.
Joe is such a delight to be entertained by. I can't think of any artist that goes as far as he does to really explain his gear and how /why he uses it. His skill speaks for itself and has a really funny guy , Thank you Joe another great display and I have learned a heap more as always. Cheers again..Charlie
It is his passion, which is smart for anyone. If that is not you then you are a loser...
I saw this fine young man in Denver last year. The best guitar player I have ever seen in my life!!
I love how much a guitar geek Joe B is and how much he loves to talk about gear.
Bonamassa self awareness level 1000. Great Rig Rundown. Love seeing the cool gear and hearing the cool stories.
One of my favorite Rig Rundown, simply because of John's giddy reactions when JB rips into that Les Paul. Would love to be that close..
The thing I love about Joe's playing is his articulation, there is no slop in his playing.
Very true
The result of practicing in your room when all the cool kids have party and get stoned but now buying his records and watching his shows.
A true Musiculater changing hearts and minds with his abilities. There is a method to his madness with collections. Well done Joe.💙💙💙
Never get tired of watching this Rig Rundown! Joe B has an incredible sense of humor and looks like a good hang. The best part is when Joe starts playing through his amps, and John's face just lights up!
Love this guy. Has absolutely no ego, it's just all about the craft, and respect for the history of his mentors/predecessors, and the equipment he uses. An absolute treasure.
I love that Joe knows people want to hear him overplay and he just does it! haha...
You can tell how much thought and work he's put in to his tone. Sounds incredible.
I really like Joe.....I've always been more of a Rock, Hard Rock, Metal guy but, this man is truly changing me man I'm not kidding!!!
John was having the best day of his life during this video
This is the best rig rundown episode I have ever seen. He really seem to enjoy explaining everything he has. He is a true professional.
This was great. I’ve been fortunate to see Joe many times .. Dude gives 100% and leaves you breathless.
Maaaan, he is such a nice guy. Say what you want about his music / playing but you got to pay him respect for being just such a nice guy. Almost 1 hour rig rundown...almost every little detail explained...
Thanks Joe and PG
This is the best interview with Joe. It took me a long time to like him, now I love him.
Joe was several, years ago in our area in South Germany, Wehr/Öflingen, hired by our Moto Cycles Club Devil Hunters. He was a bit sick at this evening, however his show was amazing. I was fortune to shake his hands and he gave me a pick of him. I was so glad! I am a guitar band guitar player myself. Now Joe is a superstar, well deserved. All best for him, and I got also very nice old guitars.
For a guitarholic like me, it's hard to beat this
Spit my coffee on "everybody becomes EVH in '78" when you hand'm a guitar with a trem on it.
Its either 78' EVH or Getcha Pull Dimebag Pantera when it comes to dive bombing on a guitar for certain people....
Leit Speid that’s a classic from Joe.
benicecunt o.k. I am guessing he has experienced some douchebag wailing on his guitar before... And he found it funny. Should we assume that you are the one with no humor? Lighten up Francis. Wow.
benicecunt o.k. It’s never wise to assume anything? But the first comment you posted literally said “I assume you haven’t had a lot of humor in your life.” So what it is? Take your opinion somewhere else, no one likes a narcissist.
benicecunt o.k. By the way, if you’re going to reply, do me a favor and don’t quote everything I said and send it back to me, unless you’re just a fuckin idiot that has to go back and read everything twice because you didn’t understand it the first time.
Joe is great. He collects a lot of guitars but unlike many collectors he actually plays his guitars live and does his own rig rundown. Awesome.
Real guitars through real amps with not much for pedals. Nice. Mad chops and a wit that is as fast as his fingers. Much respect.
I just seen Joe live in Lexington Ky and all I can say is DAMN! 15 minutes within the show I was ready to go home and weld a guitar to my balls. So inspirational 🎸🔥
Same dude…..same
Joe is an extraordinary person, great player, perfection. And a genuinely nice, well brought up dude
One of my favorite rig rundowns yet
I love how much he loves to talk about his gear or just gear and share his knowledge. He does this in all his videos. Very cool vibe.
Say what you will about him, but Bonamassa seems like a super-nice, down to earth, articulate kind of guy with a real love for music, gear, playing, and Bohlinger seems the perfect interview/foil to help make it all happen. Great stuff.
I might not be a fan of joe bonamassa’s style but everytime I see a video of him talking about guitars I could listen to him for hours
Joe has a great personality, I could listen for hours. Not even mentioning his brilliant playing.
Awesome rig run down. Best yet given the kid in a candy shop smiles when Joe fired up the amps. 👋🏻😎👍
Joe definitely having an up day when this was made. Thank you all so much for producing this...I got a ton of understanding out of it.
PG should have Joe Bonamassa and Jason Isbell sit down and talk about guitars for an hour, I would pay to watch that. They have the two best Rig Rundowns of all time.
I could listen to Joe for hours talking about equipment
