@@TreasureA11Gold Yes. You stop. Ruben has a nice voice and I voted for him to win in his season, but as a singer he is one-dimensional. Elliot is a much more versatile vocalist.
It was a fantastic performance - check his song Let’s Get To What’s Real on here (I think the whole album is posted so you have to scroll through to the title song) - it’s fantastic.
I remember this performance. The tv was on and I was busy doing chores that night and all of a sudden I heard his voice. I stopped what I was doing and watched the whole thing. I’ve rooted for him since seeing this performance. Should have won the whole thing!
Elliott was my guy!! He should've won no doubt. Season 5 was the best. Moody's Mood For Love is another great Elliott Yamin performance from AI. One of my favorites.
How am I watching this 10 years later. (I'm a huge Stevie Wonder fan and Elliott pulled this little snippet of a Stevie song out of thin air, live, and it sounded better than the real thing.)
Truly, one of the first renditions which does justice to the iconic tune. I have been a Stevie Wonder fan since,...well, since birth essentially. Superb! Absolutely superb performance.
Still pull this one up as not only is it a superb Stevie song but Elliott sings is wonderfully. There complicated bits in the verses and a freer vibe in the chorus but he does it all expertly. Love it.
I used to work at Chesterfield Towne Center in a shoe store across from the Footlocker that he worked at in the late 90's. He was closing one night as was I, and I heard someone singing a song by Jon B like it was just nothing. Y'all he sounded amazing even then. I was so excited to see him on AI! In my opinion though, he was robbed. He should have won, but I'm so happy he did well even afterwards!
+ssimmons1124 funny enough I thought the weakest of this season top 5 were the top 2 nothing against Kat McPhee I just thought Elliott,Chris, and Paris were better.
+ssimmons1124 I probably would put Mandisa 5th overall she was definitely one of the strongest female singers but her last two performances were her weakest and I'm 100% sure she would progress or go downhill that being said I love how she handled Simon after he said that distasteful comment after weight.
We need people like him on American Idol. I am shocked we don't hear him on the radio. Now in 2024 American Idol it is mainly country. They come out with their guitars and play a song they composed. Boring no fun songs you want to get up and dance to. Only time the music is good is when the Judges pick the songs for the contestants. Show has gone downhill.
wow i dont remember that comment from simon, i must have missed this episode! should have come down to him and kathy mcphee. i cant remember did she win?
I appreciate contestants on American Idol who take on Stevie Wonder songs-since they're notoriously difficult to sing. Well, if they're not ghastly, or at minimum average, but deluded, thinking they can do it... Elliott of course pulls it off, convincingly and then some. What can't this boy do? He was my favorite throughout, but who went and won? Everyone's drunk uncle Taylor Hicks. And I love that all these years later people are still here commenting on his performance. Not just me! But commenters before my as freash as 3 weeks ago! Even the humble, lesser known performances on the small stage. Proves his staying power, doesn't it? Maybe his record label should do a new push for him... And speaking of sweating, the other contestants were guaranteed going "Oh fuuuck..." Really "happy" for him. I'm surprised Simon didn't pull "The rest might as well pack up their suitcases and leave" line (to Paula's protest). But it was probably on account of Elliott not being 'the full package,' that Simon likes to see. Your Justin Timberlake or Enrique Iglesias. Now, I had to google "cute male singers"-because I couldn't think of anyone besides Timberlake. Haha! (I thought of Justien Bieber, blech, and then I couldn't unthink it.) And funnily Timberlake was #2 on both lists! I don't know about #2 hottest male artist in history.... But what works in his favor for me are his brilliant performances on SNL. (Hello "Dick in a box." 😂) One of the lists was pretty cool as it didn't just have contemporary singers,-but the likes of Elvis, Jim Morrison and Robert Plant. Freddy Mercury! (But hey, if you can pull off a harlequin cat suit you damned well got it.) Which, excuse me, Elvis at #18, Jim Morrison at #66, Kurt Cobain at 77, when you've got Josh Groban (come on!) at #8, and honest-to-god _David Archuleta_ at #26? But yeah, Archuleta is obviously _way_ hotter than Kurt Cobain. Bonjour.
Back when this show was still relevant. I still think Elliot was the best male vocalist to come through Idol.
I agree
one of the best
Guy was always pitch-perfect.
Better than Ruben Studdard? Please.. stop.
@@TreasureA11Gold Yes. You stop. Ruben has a nice voice and I voted for him to win in his season, but as a singer he is one-dimensional. Elliot is a much more versatile vocalist.
So sad you dont hear anything from him. The industry is starving for vocals like this. ❤
It was a fantastic performance - check his song Let’s Get To What’s Real on here (I think the whole album is posted so you have to scroll through to the title song) - it’s fantastic.
Agreed. I’d listen to him over Lizzo a million times over
I remember this performance. The tv was on and I was busy doing chores that night and all of a sudden I heard his voice. I stopped what I was doing and watched the whole thing. I’ve rooted for him since seeing this performance. Should have won the whole thing!
He killed it!!! We didn't expect that!!!
He was easily the best male vocalist that season.
Correction he was the best vocalist this season period.
Elliott was my guy!! He should've won no doubt. Season 5 was the best.
Moody's Mood For Love is another great Elliott Yamin performance from AI.
One of my favorites.
Him and Chris were both brilliant.. Katherine was amazing too. But they went for personality that year unfortunately.
How am I watching this 10 years later. (I'm a huge Stevie Wonder fan and Elliott pulled this little snippet of a Stevie song out of thin air, live, and it sounded better than the real thing.)
Excellent!!! Not Stevie though. 👏👏👏
I would say Elliot and Paris had the best voices of that season
He sang the HELL out of this! Damn!
Indeed
Elliot Y is my favorite idol of all time. Wished he had put out more music that was played on the radio.
Ditto 100%!!! Met him when I saw him in concert. Amazing!! Super nice too! 🌟
Still to this day no one compares to this man's voice.
His vibrato is crazy
My favorite male vocalist from Idol.
Truly, one of the first renditions which does justice to the iconic tune. I have been a Stevie Wonder fan since,...well, since birth essentially. Superb! Absolutely superb performance.
Still blown away by this man's voice and talent❤❤❤
Man, I miss these days! Seems like a lifetime ago!
The best male vocalist
Wait for you is still an absolute classic that transforms the listener straight back to the 90s and the loves that got away that’s for sure 😊
One of the best male singers on American Idol ,and that’s why I’m hear listening in 2023 👍♥️
Still think Elliot was one of the top vocalists on that show of all time
Best singer by a mile
Forgot all about my boy Elliott; he was one of my all time faves!
He should have won
He was way better than the other 2
He was robbed! Most definitely one of three best singers on AI: Elliott Yamin, Carrie Underwood and Kelly Clarkson.
@@BBG2911 carrie underwood is sooo overrated...fantasia is by far one of the best vocalist to be on the show
Fr tho my cousin should have won
Vibin he’s your cousin?
Love the richness of Elliot's voice. Thanks for posting.
He has the sexiest vibrato ever!
@@bbb12124 Really? Thank you!
Perhaps too much vibrato
@@c0rxpseb0i13 lol yes, perhaps. I can’t believe 3 years ago I used the term “sexiest” when describing someone’s vibrato. 😂
@@barlowwe 🤣🤣🤣🤣 he can sing but he was being a bit of a try hard
Just a little
My favorite Elliott performance! Man, I was freaking blown away when I saw this and in 2018 I'm still impressed!
best most emotional singer -- or one of the best -- until most of us stopped watching the show.
2:22 that run thoooo 😩😍😍😍
His voice is amazing
Elliot got that swag!
Would love Elliott to do an American songbook album. With the right arrangements, he would rule among the male jazz vocalists - no question!!!
Forget the best on AI during all its seasons, one of the most talented vocalists I've heard in my life.. He's really up there
When you were on American idol you were a good singer❤I am innorth carolina
yes elliot was ripped off bigtime!! won it by a mile in my opinion!
Best performer ever on Idol.
Still pull this one up as not only is it a superb Stevie song but Elliott sings is wonderfully. There complicated bits in the verses and a freer vibe in the chorus but he does it all expertly. Love it.
My favorite idol! Elliot, bring back these classics because you make them your own!
I just love him
Love his performance amazing, he should have definitely won x
I’m with you Elliot. Stevie Wonder
Amazing voice.
It's a damn shame they didn't make them record full studio versions of everything back then.
What ever happen to Elliot, with that fabulous voice of his, I thought he was headed for a successful career.
I was kid and didn’t appreciate him like I do now….damn
The girls during those notes OMG
I loved Elliot but Daughtry to me anyway, stole the show. The uncrowned champ. Elliot had the best vocals out of any of them though. Solid runner up!!
His runs are ridiculously good
I cannot thank you more for posting this.

I also grew up in Richmond and was living there, age 18, during his idol run!! It was a big deal there!! I knew many people who knew him!!
Omg I really wanted to watch this performance again and this even includes the judge's comments!! Thank you!
AI season 5 was the best
@unc_mike_v, Seasons 1-6 were the "Golden Years" of AI. *Jesus Saves*
I was the best and the tour was great
My opinion: he’s the best singer in the known world, bar none!
Elliott is from the same area I live!
Me too! Richmond girl here!!
Wow I love this!
4:25 Love this part! hahaha Elliot, yes, you!!
That was my favorite performance from him and I love his voice even if I was rooting for CHRIS Daughtry!
he was the only hope in the top 3 until he got eliminated. the winner was a clown.
Domeju
I agree. He should have won this season!
+ssimmons1124 funny enough I thought the weakest of this season top 5 were the top 2 nothing against Kat McPhee I just thought Elliott,Chris, and Paris were better.

I agree
I think those three, along with Mandisa should have been top 4. I would have been happy with any of them winning.

The vibrato was a bit much at times, but Elliott was my guy. Probably my favorite Idol contestant ever.

I bought so many drugs, prescription, from Elliot, back in the west end of Richmond.
Elliot kinda did too much with the vibrato
Z
Strong vocals but I don't think he's the best. It's lacking in tone a little bit.
Yeah. I don't know what Simon was smoking that night.
