Omg for once in my life I'm so excited to have naturally very dark, thick hair and very light skin!!! My hair is so dark that I don't even like the look of my skin after shaving. I can literally see my follicle still just hanging out. It's like these little dark dots all over my legs that I can't get rid of.
I went for 8 initial sessions about 10 years ago. I still have to go in for touch ups once or twice a year but I've been extremely happy with the results.
I started using another brand called skin genic IPL last year. I’m quite satisfied with the results I'm seeing.. It was also budget friendly compared to the Kenzi.
Wow! Thanks Andrea for letting us know we have to stop AHA/BHA/Mandelic/Lactic/Glycolic/Ascorbic acids before having the procedure! I'm about to go get a consultation for laser hair removal and didn't know this :)
Had laser hair removal in the early years (mid 2000's) by my dermatologist. About 6 or so treatments over a period of 2-3 years. It was a game changer. Extremely effective. I'd say that 95% of the hair never came back. Could not be happier. I have super sensitive skin, but I never had any reaction to any of the treatments (Gentlase was my favorite). I'm very fair w/medium brown hair.
I'm a male and about 40 years ago I wanted to shave my head to look like KOJAK, Telly Sevales. And no matter how much I shaved, it still kind of stubble like and not smooth. SOO, I went to Rite Aid, and bought Nair cream, I put it on my head for 5 minutes, it was burning so I tried to wash it off but it was To Late, my head burned for hours, then about a month went by, when I saw a man with a shiny bald head and I asked him how do u make your head shiny like yours, he said "I'm Bald", 😆😆
I had electrolysis done on my bikini line and I found that applying recticare (yes, it’s an anesthetic for hemmrhoids) is awesome at blocking the pain. If you apply it every 20 minutes for 45 min before the session it allowed me to complete an hour session easily. I would fall asleep during the session lol. I’m a baby for pain too
@@phuongmai94 Yes, just make sure you see someone who is licensed and has experience doing electrolysis on the face. I have never had it done on my face but it is possible
100% isn’t rare. In my case, my armpit was 100%, my legs maybe 50%, and my bikini area I would say a 80%. It was the best decision ever. Since I was a teen, and before doing waxing, my hairs used to ungrow, producing ugly pimples and sometimes infected.
Ah yes IPL. Had about 6 sessions nearly 10 years ago. Most of the hair is still gone...though a couple of strays came back over time...I still shave 2-3 times a week, but it’s quick and painless (I don’t even need shaving cream, shower gel is fine) and I never have ingrown hairs. I highly recommend it to anyone with suitable skin/hair colour. It does hurt though...I used to go horseback riding as a teen and got zapped by an electric fence a couple of times. Kind of like that. Shins were merely slightly unpleasant, the underarm area kinda hurt...but the more ‚private‘ areas...let me just say: OUCH. If you want more than the bikini line, better bring a belt to bite on...
I've gone IPL as well on my manly face and it's all gone except for about 10 hairs! IPL is permanent for me. It doesn't hurt that bad, it's very tolerable
Do you have any tattoos? I’m curious how you would compare the pain of being tattooed to that from IPL, if you have any. I myself have a massive tattoo on my arm
There can be scabbing with electrolysis, which there is not much information on internet about. After treatment, come home wash face, pat dry and leave it as it for a few hours usually until night time. Then just use moisturizer at night.. scabbing goes away after a few days. Stay gentle. I have gotten electrolysis on face and laser on body, with amazing results. I am Indian, so it worked perfectly on my skin with dark hair. If in Vancouver, Canada let me know and I can tell you my technicians. (Numbing cream made my skin sensitive and didn't numb it at all, even after 30 min) Thanks Dr. Dray!!
Just came across this video and I’ve had my first session of laser hair removal about a month or so ago and the difference already is amazing. If anyone is pale with dark hair and has unwanted hair I would already recommend! The pain is moderate in certain areas but the few minutes of pain is so worth the reduction of hair
What an EXCELLENT video, super packed with information!!!! Wish I had seen this prior to extensive laser work I had done about seven years ago. It is not totally pain free. Had it done at an MD dermatology office and I still do go there, so I am not putting them down at all. The laser did work under my arms and another place. However, I also had my legs done which had very light hair. Had these areas done twice and that was all that was needed for the first areas. My legs, the laser did absolutely nothing for the hair there. We decided to stop treatment on legs and they credited my account for that. If I had seen this video, I never would have even started on the legs because the hair is extremely light and I can see that is the reason why the laser did not work. Thank you for doing this video!!!! You are SO helpful!!!!!
Haha! I loved what you said about people being highly motivated to have their unwanted hair removed. I have blonde, coarse hair on my upper lip and chin (PCOS). The hair on my lip is nearly the same color of my skin so I opted for electrolysis. I can attest that it's EXTREMELY painful, but I'd do almost anything to get rid of my creepy flesh colored beard.
I have hair on my chin and neck but idk I did blood work and I got negative for PCOS. I've tried laser hair removal but the hair still grows out a lot. However my underarms are doing great. Apparently hair due to hormones is harder to get rid of?

I tried shaving peach fuzz with tinkle razor but it always leaves irritation bumps!! Now I have been using FLAWLESS facial hair remover for about 2 months and I love it ...no irritation bumps...use it weekly!! Yay!! Happy Wednesday:)
Just had my first laser session today. It wasn’t bad at all and only took about 20 minutes. In terms of pain it was like a cat scratch or a cat poking you with its claw lol Also the technician kept telling me to make sure to put on sunscreen daily and I thought wow she sounds like Dr. Dray haha
I am ashamed that I searched for this info on youtube and watched the two first results when I could've gone straight to dr dray. I haven't even watched the video yet but I know the answer will be here.
I have ingrown hair all over my legs and forearms. There is no inflammation, redness or pain, they just grow and sit under there. And I'm wheatish with straight jet black hair so they're very conspicuous! Waxing or shaving won't remove them. Only way to get at them is by using my nails or a needle on every single hair which is very time-consuming, can draw blood and cause scarring. That's why I think laser is the best option for me and have begun to save up. Hopefully I won't get hyperpigmentation....Thank you very much for your informative videos!
please please do a video on electrolysis , I'm considering doing it for my PCOS and the reviews and explanations on how it works are super inconsistent
I had 2 years of electrolysis on my face and it seemed to work wonderfully, but then I became pregnant with my son and all the hair suddenly came back. I have PCOS as well. That was over 14 years ago. I might do it again just because I know I'm done having babies.
I’ve been hearing that IPL can cause rebound hair growth on the face. It can cause any of the fine hairs that get zapped as you target the dark hair around it, to become thicker and darker like that hairs you’re trying to get rid of 🤷🏻♀️
Hey,I'm from Greece and here everyone's getting laser hair removal.Being from the Mediterraenian, females tend to have lots of facial hair.We consider the prices here fairly cheap, for exemple one session for full face laser treatment is around 40 euros. And if you only need laser on your upper lip it's around 15-20 euros per session.I understand we have different currencies and different economies, but could someone give me a price tag for hair removal in the States?Thank you.
Thank you Dr. Dray for another interesting and informative video. I am currently undergoing electrolysis for facial hair because I was told laser wouldn't work on my white chin "pig" hairs, as my grandmother used to call them. Thank you Andrea for this video! I was waiting to listen to your professional opinion about this topic. Ps: I loved the way you explained the hair growing after waxing (ha) ☺️ Have a nice week!
LMAO at your thumbnail! 😂😂 You're a M.D., (and a PhD as well?). I also think you're a superbly talented and brilliant educator, "actor" and comic......with a good heart, giving us your time and knowledge, knowledge you worked long and hard for. I write this with great sincerity. ❤️👍🏻 Now on to laser hair removal.....after trying bleaching, shaving, electrolysis (I really believe that left my pores/hair follicles much larger for a long time), waxing and an at home laser hair removal device (I don't recommend it!), I'm ready for professional laser hair removal. Problem is, it seems like every place I look, the doctor doesn't do it, other staff do. If I can't find a doc to do it, what credentials should I look for in the staff? Thanks for this video. Rita
Hey aesthetician do laser hair removal, and they're trained on it (they follow a course and have to pass it before using it on people). It's not "anyone" who can manipulate a laser hair removal machine. There are many settings and speeds to manoeuver. Anyway, you Don't need a doctor to do laser hair removal, an aesthetician will do.
Hey, doc! I personally found your channel a few weeks ago and I’ve been addicted ever since. I love your POV and expertise. You’re a joy to watch and I wish you were my dermatologist. Question: I suffer from both folliculitis and keratosis pilaris on different parts of my body. Do you think laser hair removal would help with either of these conditions? I saw a popular celebrity dermatologist on RUclips say laser hair removal PREVENTS folliculitis, but was she just trying to increase her business? Thank you for all that you do :)
Dr. Dray. thank you so much for this information. can you please talk about post-inflammatory hyper pigmentation after a laser treatment ? how to get rid of it?! i got some spots in my last appointment. they faded a little bit but not completely (i'm so frustrated ) i really wanted to keep doing it but i'm so scared now. please help .
Love my laser hair removal- it was very $$$$ and painful but - - - no more horrid ingrown hairs in bikini area and always beach ready. Oh and yeah it took many treatments, but now 2 years later I still do only some light touch up shaving. No regrets though. Oh, I am fair with dark hair so I was a good candidate.
Many years ago in the first Iron Age I had electrolysis for years and it changed my life. I thank Heavens for the practitioner I found when I lived in Calgary who saw me every week and was never judgemental. And today, I’m good hair-wise but every six to eight weeks I rip the hair off my arms with wax, I find it to be a nice tingly sensation and my arms look great. I have not had pseudo folliculitos. My arms look so good now after years of waxing I’m actually not ashamed of them the way I am of most of my other body parts.
Oops! I left out board certified dermatologist from your C.V.! lol! And yes, I have to look for a board certified derm for the laser hair removal. Thanks. Rita
I used Nair (with Aloe, for legs) above my upper lip (out of desperation, I swear!), even though the directions told me not to. I immediately regretted it. YIKES! My question is: What's the difference between face skin and arm skin (for example)? And WHY is there such a difference? I thought skin was pretty much skin, give or take.
I'm a 27 years old south asian woman. Should i be aware of Paradoxical hypertrichosis when doing laser hair removal? I have only done 4 sessions on my face untill now. Please somebody help 😟
Will permanent hair removal or reduction, improve the quality of non treated hair? In other words, will lasering body hair and decreasing the thickness and growth of it; improve the hair in your scalp? Since the body will not be using nutrients and pigment in laser treated hair, will the hair in the scalp benefit and be improve?
What is more effective and long lasting? IPL (Alma harmony SHR) or laser (Candella Alexandra)? I'm very torn between where to go because of what they use. The laser is more expensive
Hi Dr. Dray! I have had laser performed on my face for over a year.. I definitely notice hyper pigmentation at this point. Is there any procedure that I could have done that would counteract this along with some acne scarring? Thank you
take it from me 😩 I used nair face cream to get rid of peach fuzz at that time. I used the nair twice, and after that my facial hair grew back so black and thicker. I know never to shave your face as a woman but I would of never known that the cream would make my hair grow back so dark and thick. It use to just be peach fuzz and now it’s not 😭. Also I’ve heard so many stories of women who went for hair laser removal and it make their hair grow 10x worse! I’m gonna keep trying to bleach the hair. Everything else seems to risky. EDIT; after speaking to my electrolysis we figured out what caused my facial hair growth! It was from 2 BBL IPL LASER TREATMENTS! Get electrolysis! Also if you are from an ethnic background laser treatment typically causes what’s called Paradoxical Hypertrichosis meaning MORE hair growth and it also causes the hair to grow where it Never did before. I am Mediterranean and this happened to me from the BBL laser for rosacea treatment. I paid $700 for zero results and dark, coarse hair growth 😡 I now have to get electrolysis. Thank god there actually a real permanent hair removal system. Laser is a scam. Also this does Not just happen to middle eastern people, if you are of an ethnic background this is a common problem. Please just get electrolysis.
I had laser hair removal treatment to remove my very dark, coarse neck and facial hair (I also have very light skin.) Not only did the treatment not work, it made things far worse. Where I once had just a few coarse hairs, I now have patches of them. I'm wondering if I should seek the advice of a true dermatologist since the place I went to was a "natural health center" whatever that means. It's hard for me to want to throw more money at this problem when the previous treatment didn't help. Any advice, Dr. Drey?
Hi, how is the hair removal coming along? I also deal with this and I feel like a slave to hair removal honestly.. Constantly worrying if it's visible. My facial hair is light (for now) thankfully but it's a strange texture (thick, wiry, grows straight up/out), grows super fast and the coarse stubble shines in the light. Ugh.. I like to know how others deal with it and what works for them. I've pretty much tried everything but laser/IPL (because my hair is light) Thanks x
I have been getting lazer hair removal with cynosure nd- yag. I have had many sessions and years of experience getting lazer. They tell you 6-8 but definitely need more. It is very effective on the body. The settings is what matters. I find some places use low setting in order for you get more sessions. But I highly recommend this lazer if you have dark skin.
Dr. Dray, what is your opinion on self tanners & gradual tanners? Really appreciate sharing your knowledge here on RUclips :) In school currently to hopefully contribute to the field of dermatology!
I am asking you for advice since I no longer believe the person who did my treatment. I was undergoing laser hair removal, but I wanted to keep pubic hair. The person who did my treatment conceived me to only arrange my pubic hair at the top, and I agreed. Now I regret that, because she went much lower than we agreed on, and I miss lots of hair in there... Is there any chance this will regrow or something when I did only one treatment? She told me they have some super strong laser, that only a few places in Europe have... I'm really sad
Good day, dr dray! Thank you so much for sharing this video! I would like to ask regarding the laser hair removal. Last year, i just availed the 8 sessions hair diode from a beauty clinic. I even availed the booster sessions. Is it safe? Thank you! Love lots, rayssa❤
can you do a video on mole, freckle removal pens ? ive been seeing those everywhere.. sorry! i came to your page hoping to get some information on this topic ! :)
I’m male and I’ve had laser hair removal. Best money I’ve ever spent. I’ve had electrolysis too. But laser is way better but electrolysis is instant gratification. Any questions I’m an open book.
I tried kenzzi and didn't see a difference after months of usage. I started electrolysis last week and I wish I had used the $250 I spent on kenzzi towards the electrolysis. It's $40 for a 15 min session and that's all I need for my chin. Cheaper in the long run than laser and ipl.
We used to have "Veet" in this country. It's how I first removed my lower leg hair in puberty at age 15, when I could (upper leg is barely there, so left that alone as per mom's instructions haha). It wasn't bad, but these creams do smell kinda bad, so keep that in mind too. LOL
I`m a bit confused: you mentioned that the use of Differin should be stopped before laser hair removal, but if I am not planning on removing hair on my face (only my legs), does it really matter? Thanks!
Only stop applying retinoids on areas where the laser will be applied. If you are using the laser on your arms, you dont need to stop retinoids on your face. Hope that helps.

Hi Andrea, another great and very complete video, with so much information, people know now what is the best treatment for each one.Thank you.
Thanks!
How do you go about stopping and starting retinoids for laser hair removal if it’s being used to control acne?
Thank you Andrea for this video! I was waiting to listen to your professional opinion about this topic.
Ps: I loved the way you explained the hair growing after waxing (ha) ☺️
Have a nice week!
Thanks! you too Ms carla
Now on to laser hair removal.....after trying bleaching, shaving, electrolysis (I really believe that left my pores/hair follicles much larger for a long time), waxing and an at home laser hair removal device (I don't recommend it!), I'm ready for professional laser hair removal. Problem is, it seems like every place I look, the doctor doesn't do it, other staff do. If I can't find a doc to do it, what credentials should I look for in the staff? Thanks for this video. Rita
:) board certified dermatologist
Why don't recommend Hair removal at home?
Thank you for all that you do :)
it can help, yes
Hi from Barbados!
So happy I found your channel! Looking forward to watching more of your videos!
Hi :)
Sharon, welcome, you're gonna love it here

Dr. Dray. thank you so much for this information. can you please talk about post-inflammatory hyper pigmentation after a laser treatment ? how to get rid of it?!
i got some spots in my last appointment. they faded a little bit but not completely (i'm so frustrated ) i really wanted to keep doing it but i'm so scared now. please help .
After one year now, can you please tell if these spots have completely faded? @nox star
@@amlhope2148 sucks they didn't reply
I needed this video like 20 years ago but i appreciate its here now ^_^
:)
:) glad to hear you had a good experience
Thank you so much. I learned a lot and I feel more confident in what to look for in the Dermatologist I select.
Thanks!
Thanks so much for this helpful video, Dr. Dray!
Great review ❤️ I bought the SkinGenics ipl instead because it way less on the pricing.
This is good content but the more recent videos are better. Time and practice really shows improvements. Well done. ✔
Oh really? Which ones do you recommend?
Many years ago in the first Iron Age I had electrolysis for years and it changed my life. I thank Heavens for the practitioner I found when I lived in Calgary who saw me every week and was never judgemental. And today, I’m good hair-wise but every six to eight weeks I rip the hair off my arms with wax, I find it to be a nice tingly sensation and my arms look great. I have not had pseudo folliculitos. My arms look so good now after years of waxing I’m actually not ashamed of them the way I am of most of my other body parts.
Waxing is painful
They sell ipl machines for DIY at home use, like the ULIKE one, but are those worth the money?
Do you recommend Hair removal for scalp?
Thank you for this video!
Is there a video on dry brushing? Would love your insight on this
She has posted her opinion on Instagram about that and she says it’s not good. You can still see it in her Q&A Instagram highlight
Oops! I left out board certified dermatologist from your C.V.! lol! And yes, I have to look for a board certified derm for the laser hair removal. Thanks. Rita
:)
I just wanna get rid of my little mustache forever but I'm afraid of post inflammatory hyper-pigmentation..
Me too 😔
Happy day!! kisses from méxico!! 💕💕
:)
I used Nair (with Aloe, for legs) above my upper lip (out of desperation, I swear!), even though the directions told me not to. I immediately regretted it. YIKES! My question is: What's the difference between face skin and arm skin (for example)? And WHY is there such a difference? I thought skin was pretty much skin, give or take.
thickness for one thing, as well as hair follicle density....it has to do with how patterns of cell populations differentiate during development
I'm a 27 years old south asian woman. Should i be aware of Paradoxical hypertrichosis when doing laser hair removal? I have only done 4 sessions on my face untill now. Please somebody help 😟
What about using Azelaic acid, Tranexamic acid and Vitamin C before laser hair removal? 😇
Thanks Dr. Dray! I was wondering what the Grocery Rebate App is you use? I didn't see it listed. Cindi xoxo

Aloha Ms Andrea! Great video! Thanks for the info! 🤙🏻❤️
:)
Hi, do you have any videos or views about electrolysis as well.?
15:52 stop using any acids and tretinoin (retina-a) a few weeks in advance
"debilitory cream, you don't want to be debilitated" LOL!!
Great video thanx.Learnt so much:) Also shared it with my daughter who is thinking of having laser hair removal.
Thanks!
Whats the best razor to shave face and legs with? I have thick hair. Are electric razors any good?
So informative. I love your videos!
thanks for watching
What is more effective and long lasting? IPL (Alma harmony SHR) or laser (Candella Alexandra)? I'm very torn between where to go because of what they use. The laser is more expensive
Hi Dr. Dray! I have had laser performed on my face for over a year.. I definitely notice hyper pigmentation at this point. Is there any procedure that I could have done that would counteract this along with some acne scarring? Thank you
What about home ipl? Thanks for video :)
Love your vids; so informative! Thanks very much! :D
Thank you so much :) hope you are having a good week
take it from me 😩 I used nair face cream to get rid of peach fuzz at that time.
Damn I love your videos, you give an air of safety and honesty + really nice lady, thanks for skincare videos!
That sounds terrible I'm so sorry, I hope you find a solution
Is the at home ipl lasers good to use at home while on topical and oral acne medicines ?
This was very helpful, thank you once again💕💕😍😍
thanks for watching!
As always great information.... thank you
Thanks!
What do you think is the best cream to apply after bleaching and how long?
Will they ever develop a Laser for gray or white hair?????? Need one.
Great video!
Dr. Dray, is there scientific evidence that laser hair removal is safe? I’m particularly concerned about skin cancer. Thank so much!
Stephanie Balzer there is scientific evidence and it is safe. I read the scientific articles bf undergoing laser hair removal.
Thanks so much!
Really appreciate sharing your knowledge here on RUclips :) In school currently to hopefully contribute to the field of dermatology!
discussed in my sunscreen Q&As
What an interesting and super helpful video!! Thanks for all the wonderful information :-) XOXO Sharon
Thanks!
Thank you so much once again for sharing your knowledge 💕
Thanks Ms Carrie
Good day, dr dray! Thank you so much for sharing this video! I would like to ask regarding the laser hair removal. Last year, i just availed the 8 sessions hair diode from a beauty clinic. I even availed the booster sessions. Is it safe? Thank you! Love lots, rayssa❤
can you do a video on mole, freckle removal pens ? ive been seeing those everywhere.. sorry! i came to your page hoping to get some information on this topic ! :)
Super helpful video ... love your vibe...
Thank you
I’m male and I’ve had laser hair removal.
Is it dangerous to use it over moles?
We used to have "Veet" in this country. It's how I first removed my lower leg hair in puberty at age 15, when I could (upper leg is barely there, so left that alone as per mom's instructions haha). It wasn't bad, but these creams do smell kinda bad, so keep that in mind too. LOL
i see that in the stores here too
I`m a bit confused: you mentioned that the use of Differin should be stopped before laser hair removal, but if I am not planning on removing hair on my face (only my legs), does it really matter? Thanks!
Only stop applying retinoids on areas where the laser will be applied. If you are using the laser on your arms, you dont need to stop retinoids on your face. Hope that helps.
Sounds like I need to save up for laser hair removal I’ve tried nair and it doesn’t really work for me. I’ve thought about getting waxed again
What about moisturizers with Hyaluronic Acid?
