I have fair skin and dark hair, so hair growth on my upper lip and chin was very obvious and really impacted my confidence. I chose electrolysis for removal. I experienced very little discomfort and had no side effects. The process was time intensive, but the cost per session was very manageable. I have not had any regrowth of hair at all and it’s been at least two years since my last session. Having electrolysis was one of the best decisions I’ve made to enhance my appearance.

Sooo silly ol me did laser hair removal a couple of years ago at a medspa filled with mean people. Told the lady I had PCOS beforehand. I paid 5k for a whole year's worth of full body laser hair removal with the Alex laser, I think? Hair grew back thicker and with more density. The owner THEN chose to tell me about the adverse side effects with PCOS (after the fact), basically said "Oh well", and didn't offer to give me my money back or something else she could do for a discount. So now I'm here with more hair, and I have to wax every week. I pray for the day I can afford electrolysis. All that pain for nothing.

Laser hair removal is not FDA approved?? I did not know that! Can I ask you how electrolysis affects tattoos? And how it affects acne scars/stretch marks? Also I've seen only one or 2 electrolysis devices for at home use... while I'm sure it's highly encouraged to seek a licensed professional, do you know if it works/or if it's safe?

@@alyese_01the at-home stuff is garbage I tried it and wasted my money. Electrolysis go more into the root if I'm not mistaken which is hard to do on your own. Laser can also cause hair growth in some areas if you didn't have it before. I grew a ton of hair under my face bc they did lasee there and it wasn't needed. Electrolysis has killed that and all of my upper lip. I'd see if you can find a practioner near you. Mine did a free consult so I could ask questions. She even showed me how it worked on my leg and to reduce pain levels.

I’m currently 29, south Asian with medium skin tone. I have done professional laser hair removal for years. It did help stop hair growth temporarily but it was never permanent for me. I decided to try the Kenzie to save time and money, which was a huge mistake. After using it in my face for about 2-3 months, I lost so much fat on my face and around my orbital bone. Aged more in 2 months than I have in 7 years. I’m currently looking for ways to help remedy this now cuz I’m having really bad body dysmorphia. One day when I have the money to do electrolysis, I will do that, but until then, I’ll stick to waxing.

It took several sessions over 1.5 years (every few months) and required numbing cream but it was one of the best things I ever did. After telling them this, they immediately rejected me as a candidate. They didn’t tell me why, but I assumed, maybe lasers are shooting UV rays into the skin and it could cause skin cancer if you’re at a high risk. But you made no mention of it - sooo I feel so confused now. Is there zero risk of skin cancer from laser?

Electrolysis leaves sub cutaneous scarring. if the practitioner is not talented, you can see it right away. I had it done 20 years ago (Before laser was available) and my practitioner was very careful but now I can see that the scarring is showing up. I still had to go for laser treatment and the laser was much more effective. Electrolysis is much more painful than laser.

Electrolysis was permanent for many many years until I started HRT and was given too much testosterone. So irritating. A few spots on my chin that had stopped growing started growing again. I will need to get it done again on the follicles that were stimulated and regrew. 😩

What is IPL devices? Are they same as laser and how they work for different skin tone? They seem to be cheaper than laser. I baught Tria laser device long time ago. I was not consistent with it, I saw reduction by 50% and they grow slowly. But not so affective on face.

  • @Jessicalovesmichael

I’ve been getting laser hair removal on my face for years. My hair just keeps growing back, but the procedure helps keep the growth to a minimum. I get the IPL laser. I’m Latina with medium light skin. I do get cold sores, but I haven’t had a breakout due to the procedure as of yet.
I get it every 4 to 6 to 8 weeks, depending on how regular I attend the sessions. If I’m consistent, then I can stretch the time further between sessions. It’s annoying that the hair just keeps growing back, but at least it’s minimum to the point where I can’t really see it or feel it until weeks later. The hair growth is very fine and slow, so I’m okay with what I’ve got to work with.

    • @greenknitter
      @greenknitter Месяц назад

Honestly I did the same and then went for electrolysis. Night and day difference on results. The only permanent solution for hair removal is electrolysis. Lasers just lighten the hair and make them finer but you will keep spending money on them.
Please try electrolysis if you want to get rid of them once and for all. Can be painful and costly but I'm very glad I did it.

Sadly, the areas I want permanent removal are large, like my back and shoulders, so it'd become quite tedious and overwhelming. That's why I tried to do laser first. My advice: just spend that $$$ on electrolysis so you get some guarantee of results.

This is not really accurate. Electrolysis is the only way of permanent hair removal, while laser is only slowing down the growth. Electrolysis destroys the hair follicle so there is literally nowhere for a new hair to grow out of. It does take years to completely get rid of all hairs within an area, but it does work and they never grow back (unless you have a hormonal issue that triggers hirsutism).

I wonder if I could be in the small percentage of those who have more hair growth after laser treatment. I had four treatments at my dermatologist’s office last year. I never felt like it worked. I have just as much if not more hair growth than before. I have been planning to go back for some follow ups but have not yet. I’m 57 and am on HRT that includes testosterone, so I also wondered if that could be contributing to the growth or effectiveness of the treatments. My doctor decreased my testosterone about 9 months ago, but it hasn’t seemed to help. I have to shave or derma-plane about every other day, along with tweezing and I feel like it’s affecting my skin. I still have pretty good skin, but I feel like all the shaving causes more breakouts and is causing my skin not to be as smooth. Of course I look in a magnifying mirror every day, so I’m sure that does not help-I see every little thing! 🫣😬🫣. Any suggestions Dr. Dray?
    Thank you! 😊🇨🇱😊

I'm not an expert or anything, but I've spent a good amount of time researching. Just be aware that some of those offices will use too low of settings on purpose in order to keep you coming back and spending more money. I went with Milan since they have a lifetime deal and use one of the best lasers on the market. Maybe figure out what type of laser your old spa used. The Candela Gentle Max Pro is one of the best ones to use if you can find a place that uses it. If you have PCOS, I personally don't think the at home IPL will help much, especially in the long run, but you may get a slight reduction with consistent use.
