I have to say, when the movie turtles came out I was not playing with tgem anymore. I am 43 now....but they are some of my favorite toys. At that time they were refining toys for play and at the same time trying to be movie accurate. Now they are EXTREMELY ACCURATE......but they are not toys and we don't play with them. They are now adult collectibles and are expensive and not really fun. I love the rubber extremities and think they nailed it because they were more play friendly and less "breakable".
20:46 - "I don't understand why all these Movie Stars Ninja Turtles got shields. They never used shields in the movie, so why did they decide all these guys have to have shields." One word, my friend: Paparazzi. (Excellent review, yet again!!!) :D
Haha dude, it’s getting so a giant mutant turtle can’t even go pick up a pizza without an army of photographers watching their every move. As always thanks for stopping by!
Great review overall! So I finally did bite the bullet and bought a Movie Star turtle last week, I had to get my favorite, Raph, and I'm in love with darn thing. I can't believe how great the sculpt is, even if it isn't as accurate as it could be like the recent NECA offerings, it holds up REALLY well for 1992, they're definitely one of, if not, the best turtles that Playmates ever did.
I will tell you, the colors of re-release set of Movie Star Turtles are based on 2012 set of turtle figures. The yellowish or lime green that Michelangelo is... it's the same color as the 2012 Michelangelo figure...
I agree it doesn't make any sense to give the recreations of the old figures the colors of the newer set. I don't know if it's for copyright reasons or just plain laziness to go the extra mile to make this recreation better. I can forgive the four turtles having Leo's body if they lost the old mods to these figures, but using the 2012 colors for this set is lazy and inexcusable!
Always found it interesting how my dad’s favorite is Donnie and he’s very similar in that he loves handy work and garage projects and I ended up liking Mikey the most and being like him and loving a good time
I never had these as a kid, and always wanted them. Thankfully the NECA line has scratched that itch for me, but back in the day, seeing those movie star turtles was like: "Whoa, they look like they are right out of the film!". Did you grab the NECA TMNT 3 pack at all? Thoughts on that?
Thanks! I did get the Neca Tmnt iii pack. I’ve looked at it a little bit, but not too much. I wanted to make a review about them, but I just haven’t gotten to it yet. They look pretty awesome. I thought the faces looked better than in the actual movie.
ok, so, as i am proudly the guy who guilted you into reviewing the repro MS turtles and the BL to the vintage I am one happy man. i got the repro, i was happy enough, then i got a vintage mikey for VERY low price. had his belt so, i was happy, then…. sold the repro set and i am only missing Splinter, the foot soldier and Donny… i plan on army building the foot soldiers
I have problem of buying and collecting the Movie Star reissues. It may have it's flaws but I still like them. Though the figures I hope to see an reissue for Playmates would be The Movie III Turtles where they are wearing Samurai armors. BTW, the more proper term to describe ninja stars is Shuriken.
Loved these as a kid, unfortunately had them stolen so was thinking of getting the re-releases… but disappointed they took so many liberties. Then I see a ‘92 Donnie selling for $200 on eBay 😢
The re-issues are so incredibly disappointing, they chose the normal hard plastic instead of the soft spongy material the originals have. Michelangelo is the only one I have as it’s the only one I had as a kid. That soft spongy material for their skin is my favorite part, I thought that was so cool as a kid.
I have the originals and the re issues and the re issues are not made of standard hard plastic. They are made of an incredibly stiff rubber, they’re technically bendable, but it takes a lot more effort then the originals and it does almost nothing
So I bought the reissues to repaint cause they were trash to beging with and ended up switching heads among all 4 turtles cause I felt the expressions didn't match. Mikey is now Raph, Raph is now Donnie, Donnie is now Leo and Leo is Mikey. Better match if you ask me.
It's funny: I remember the original vintage movie star Turtles very differently than they actually are. I remember them looking more like how the NECA movie Turtles look. That Mandela Effect is real with these.
Yeah memory can be kind of funny. Movies you haven’t watched since childhood can be really weird because either it’ll look completely different from what you remember or maybe it won’t include a scene you remember seeing.

I agree 100%. Overall great action figures, especially for the time.
I grew up with the movie but I never knew about these figures. Man, where have I been?
And here I was just watching an older vid of yours, and this pops up :)

I see what you mean. I just don’t think it makes any sense for them to do that when they’re supposed to be recreations of the old toys.

I know this comment is late but thank you for finally making a video on these figures two years later haha.
Haha don’t worry, I usually respond to peoples comment later than I should too, but this time I made an exception. I’m glad you enjoyed the video!

That’s pretty funny. I think my dad liked Donnie the best because his favorite color is purple.

Really $200?!?!

Same here! I thought their bendy limbs made them really awesome. Almost more real!
Wow this brought back memories
About time
I know!
My donnie movie bootleg arrived pre-decapitated. Ninjas are everywhere these days.
Hey hey, almost at the 3k mark! I can already spot the 10k lighthouse on the horizon! Head for the light! 😄😉💥💥👍
I’m slowly but steadily getting there, I’ll hit 10k in 2030.
@@razrentals8897 10k in 2025, I'm calling it now. All doubters clear out. I'm using facts and science here. Recognize! 💥💥💪😉
As cool as the originals would be to own. It's a shame how expensive they are nowadays
These were my favorite too. Next was the samurai turtles
I still need to collect most of the Tmnt iii samurai turtles.
All my old batman kenner figuers ears are chewed off😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Your parents should have fed you more haha.
