- By the time it came ashore on the Florida coast, Idalia was a Category 3 hurricane - deemed 'extremely dangerous' by experts.

Millions of people evacuated or sheltered at home as winds gusted up to 110 miles an hour. Nearly 280,000 people were left without power and at least two people have died.

@@MrSatnavatronPeople have always had to be adaptable through many of earth's changes. UK relies on warm water current from the gulf. If not it would be very cold. Did you know the Sahara desert was once covered in water.
@janice2992 wasn't the Sahara covered in water 50 to 100 million years ago? What's that got to do with us? Humans have only been around 6 million years?
Speaking of currents, have you read that the gulf stream might collapse soon in this century? Like, I also believe in that 'humanity is adaptable' hubbub, but we don't have the luxury to be calm about the rate at which we're going.

We are still coming out of an ice age and global temps are set to ride for the next 25,000 years .. at what point do you think we are steam rolling that global trend and supercharging tis effects ?

I thought carefully about liking this post. I am grateful to know that this powerful storm made landfall in a less densely populated region of Florida. However that is little comfort to the people and their families who may have lost a relative or just everything they own.

Maui was "catastrophic". 100's died. This was just another hurricane passing through.

Actually only one is heading to Japan. There are 3 active storms in the Western Pacific and 2 of them are heading to China. The most powerful one is hitting Hong Kong tonight and its a category 5 storm.
Weather is being weaponised against enemies . Some politicians in Florida are not liked by many and remember operation pop eye used in the Vietnam war over 50 years ago on the Ho Chi Min trail . I wonder how things have moved on . Stay out of fear and when seeing remain peaceful always .
