I'd like to clarify that the statue of unity was built to honour Mr. Patel for his acts after independence of India after 1947 He is referred to as 'Iron Man Of India' bcz he unified many(hundreds) princely states that would have ootherwise seceded. Hence Statue of Unity
Nothing to do with any sort of pre independence struggle

Please read the whole story don't sell half baked knowledge . He was one of the PM candidate. But The reason he wasn't chosen,
Our country got independence in 1947 ,country was in the poorest state u can imagine .
We needed a long term leadership because change in leadership leads to many problems as everyone has different thinking. Sardar Patel was aged man if not old .Therefore he wouldn't have been able to lead the country for long time .And it happened we lost our great leader in 1950 just after 3 years of independence .Just tell me what would have happened if he had been made the PM . We wouldn't have had a PM just after 3 yrs of independence giving a great chance for our neighbour terrorist to attack and us .
Most of the (if not every) decisions made by our ancestors were good and for the country and not like patel wasn't given his credits .He was the first Home Minister of our country (as amit shah is now) .Do u find that its a lower post to be HM ?
