I love his playing style and all his songs are great. I loved the fact that he remained close to his roots and especially the fact that he remained humble. He did not let his fame go to his head. I love how his face lit up when he played with his sons. You could see the love for his kids radiate. He was amazing. One of a kind. I wish I could have met him. ❤
I loved Flatt and Scruggs together and my favorite song is Foggy Mountain Breakdown. My husband taught himself to play banjo using the Scruggs and he plays very well. I'm very proud of him.
I love, love, love to see how patriotic your country still is. Have seen a lot of flags outside of homes and in cemeteries i don’t see so many here anymore. Our Australian way of life, the way I remember it is nearly non existent. No more Christian songs in public schools, no more Easter hat parades, etc etc etc it offends to many other cultures. If you don’t love the country you are in and don’t want to support that country’s ways, and it’s customs then you know where the door is. What an unreal headstone he has, thanks for sharing Jason. ❤️Jodie 🇦🇺
thanks for sharing this! I followed this man from age 4 until I was around 34 and had to stop playing because of hand problems. I got to see Earl once with his boys, saw Lester too after they split. thanks again for this video!
what a great video, he was one of the best, we've got an album of his from 1963, live on stage. anyway thank you for making these video's & remember some of the Country Great. take care & God Bless.
I did my senior paper and speech on Earl Scruggs. It was one of my favorite research papers I did because it was someone I was interested in. It gave me an even greater appreciation for his music and talent. I took great pride in giving my speech on him because Scruggs is someone I look up to musically.
It is neat to think that some of the people we get to visit like changed the way stuff works. They are the bridge builders that people get to walk across. Really cool that you did your paper on him.
Loved Flatt and Scruggs together. And the Foggy 🌁 Mountain Breakdown! AND The Ballad of Jed Clampett! That is an amazing monument! Thanks for sharing! 💕
I grew up in Cleveland County ,NC where Earl was from and I actually went to church with a few of Earl's family. There are some really nice country and Bluegrass museums in Shelby, so if you ever get the chance to go through Shelby, stop and see the sites. I actually thought that Earl would have been brought back to NC for burial.
As a bluegrass musician, mainly a banjo player, I will tell you that Earl Scruggs did as much for giving bluegrass a place in the mainstream as anyone. Nearly every banjo player learns his licks and has admired his flawless technique.
Earl Eugene Scruggs was a wonderful musician. He told us all how to play the five string banjo. Everybody wanted to play like a girl my favorite songs are foggy Mountain breakdown Flint, hill, special, salty, dog, blues, and I liked him better with Lester Flatt, and we know that Earls in the bluegrass Festival in the sky. Thanks for your channel.
It was the theme song from “The Beverly Hillbillies”, (Ballad of Jed Clampett), that captured my imagination immediately and ultimately caused me to learn to play the banjo. I don’t believe anyone has played the banjo as beautifully as Earl Scruggs. That was a very in-depth and informative video, thank you.
Thanks for an excellent video mister! Earl Scruggs was the King Of Bluegrass in my book. He and Lester came to my high school and performed back in 75 I think it was....Watauga High School in Boone, NC.
That's how you honor a loved one. If you can afford it. Why not let everybody see how you honored your loved one. I'm sure his wife and sons had a say in this. Planned how they wanted him to be honored and remembered. I was always told, you can't take it with you. He made a huge mark in BlueGrass. This does honor him. I love BlueGrass and Country. I play the Guitar, and organ. My husband plays the Guitar. We love Blue Grass, most call Mountain Music. We Country People. We love what touches our Heart. I'm still Greiving our Queen of Country Ms Loretta Lynn. So many have gone on. I Treasure the Music, it's changed so much. I always go back to the music my Great and Grandparents loved. God Bless.i guess I love it all, too many to name just one. Somehow the music of my childhood, take me back to a simpler place and time. When people cared.there was not so much hate and violence. You knew your neighbors, people had Respect. You spoke to Everybody. Love,Respect And Positivity Always. Neita,Ace and family. 👍✌🖖🙏💕🤗🙂👋.
Thank you for sharing this information...I'm a banjo player myself...from England 🇬🇧 UK...I've thought about...was earl scruggs really the best banjo player....and this is what I think...I believe certain people in this world 🌎 are touched by our lord 🙏 famous people like Muhammad Ali...paganini...and so on....earl scruggs was definitely 100 percent the greatest.....I'm sure he's up there at the pearly gates with Lester playing and singing all those great albums.....🙏 rip earl love you...
While there is no mention of a connection to Monroe on there, they did use 2 photos from his Blue Grass Boys days. First banjo tune he played on that Dec. 8, 1945 date was "Dear Old Dixie".
I have a lot of family in Woodlawn out there off of Thompson Lane my grandmother and multiple cousins at spring Hill I'm going to be at Woodlawn when that time comes I live in Gainesville Florida now was just up there recently took a ride through Woodlawn really enjoy your videos Man thanks
It's a hard decision but if I had to decide my favorite two songs of Earl's from the Flatt And Scruggs era are "The Foggy Mountain Breakdown" and "Polka On The Banjo". My favorite solo album of Earl's is "American Made, World Played".
Foggy mountain breakdown, Beverly Hillbilly theme and Pearl, Pearl, Pearl... actually I just like them all...Flatt and Scruggs , Monroe, Wiseman... just all of them
I think my most favorite song by Flatt & Scruggs was "Foggy Mountain Breakdown". That song became the Anthem of the South back during the '60's. Great song! Ya know, I'm really surprised that you didn't mention that song in this video, because it was their biggest hit of all time.
Sometimes I leave out things to see if someone will mention it. Kinda to see if someone knows and to honestly get people to comment and play the RUclips algorithm game. Kinda sad that I have to do it that way but I have to play the game.
That song from Beverly hillbillies is one that I always remember him playing from when I was really young and string bean just lived about 20 minutes from me still have string bean festival on his home place
If it wasn't for Scruggs, I wouldn't be a musician today! I am a Scruggs style picker and my first song I learned to play wasn't Foggy Mountain Breakdown, believe it or not, it was Bile Them Cabbage Down. RIP
ACTUALLY: Earl Scruggs was born in the Flint Hill Community in Cleveland County, NC. The community is just South of Boiling Springs, NC where Gardner Webb University is. Flint Hill is also where the Shadyside Dragstrip is.
SHELBY NC IS THE COUNTY SEAT OF CLEVELAND COUNTY WHERE EARL SCRUGGS WAS BORN. That is why they got a $5.5 million grant to build a center for SCRUGGS in the old courthouse square.
I DONT THINK THERE IS ANY BANJO PLAYER WHO EVER WOULD CLAIM OTHERWISE . THERE WERE OTHER 3 FINGER BANJO PICKERS BEFORE SCRUGGS , ESPECIALLY IN N.C. WHERE SGRUGGS WAS FROM , SO HE DIDNT INVENT 3 FINGER BANJO PICKING . BUT THEY DIDNT PLAY AS SMOOTHLY AS SCRUGGS DID . HE HAD THAT PERFECT TIMING AND TONE . HE SMOOTHED OUT THE ROLLS , PLAYED MARVELOUS BACKUP THAT STILL CANT BE BEAT . AND ESTABLISHED THE BANJO , PLAYED AS EARL PLAYED IT , AS BEING VITAL TO ALL BLUEGRASS BANDS . HE WAS THE BEST THERE EVER WAS , AND EVER WILL BE
I heard Lester say one time on Ralph Emery show they did not like the Beverly hillbillies song Ballard. Of Jed Clampett, until they made their first million off of it then they started liking It a little better

Tell her thanks for watching. I’m honored she loves my videos. If I can’t make her have fond memories of the past while watching me then I feel like I have done my job as a creator. Thank you!
Love Earl with Joan Baez, each had a slight “crush” on each other. Google “Love Is Just a Four Letter Word” with the two of the. I think film producer David Hoffman did an unedited documentary on their session in her CA home along with Earl’s sons.
I loved it when Earl use his D tuners in his songs! I now make Banjos and other Stringed instruments!
I love his playing style and all his songs are great.
I loved the fact that he remained close to his roots and especially the fact that he remained humble. He did not let his fame go to his head.
I love how his face lit up when he played with his sons. You could see the love for his kids radiate.

I think Scruggs left Monroe because Monroe wasn’t giving Scruggs credit for the songs Scruggs wrote.
...and paid him not enough money to support his family.
Go to patsy clines grave. Her voice was angelic even before she left this world. Especially sweet dreams of you.
We will definitely go visit patsy!
Well I don’t know the best matter of opinion I guess
Foggy Mtn. Breakdown
Shannon Grayson was the first three-finger bluegrass banjo 5 years before Earl joined Bill Monroe. Gt your history straight. Thanks

I like Bill Monroe, but he was not paying them enough money. It’s good they left and did their own thing.
You talk entirely too much!
Love Earl with Joan Baez, each had a slight “crush” on each other. Google “Love Is Just a Four Letter Word” with the two of the. I think film producer David Hoffman did an unedited documentary on their session in her CA home along with Earl’s sons.
