I come from a mixed gene pool. Haven't taken a DNA test, but I knew my Great grandparents until I was in my 30s yrs. They told us some of our heritage. I've always laughed that I was to claim family hospitality rights, I could travel the world without staying one nite in a hotel.
When I watch international news , I look at the faces to see if I can pick out any relatives. That's why I feel I have to pray for everybody.
Well said. However I wish people would stop giving words power they don't deserve. If we could take the air out of words the same as we can let the air out of a tire, those words could no longer offend anyone.
From what I understand of the ancestry makeups, Native American would fall under Asian. So you still may have some Native American.
Sometimes the results saying insicating asian dna are in fact Native American. I imagine especially in the United States.
The very concept of "race" is an artificial construct that only serves to divide. I'd say you are a decidedly lovely specimen of the Human Race. On the other hand, Milo is also a fine example of a Canine. Thanks for introducing him to us as you shared your thoughts.

Did you see the one where the BLACK ALL DAY girl went to the AFRICAN ONLY WEBSITE to get her DNA tested because...(she is not Racist) and the results, her mitochondrial findings...(because she never knew her dad, and Nietzsche did her Momma REALLY) YUP, not 2 gen back she is EUROPEAN ALL DAY. I was going to suggest that she should try cashing in on some White Privilege then, but no I didn't. The sickest reaction I ever saw come a DNA test. Put the Klansmen to shame when they find out they are part Black too. One of these days folks are going to have to admit we are all mutts, and none of this matters. I am already there.

You may have had a Seminole ancestor and still not have Native dna. The Seminole Nation came together in Florida as a loose group of native Creek peoples, along with some various other tribes, but also included many runaway African slaves and
European people who wanted to live apart from the colonies at the time. So, Seminole wasn't a specific tribe but a mixed enclave of people who stood apart. There were several vicious wars between the Seminoles and the United States. The Second Seminole War, which started in 1835, was the most expensive war the US fought against native groups. The purpose of the wars were not only to push Natives out of Florida, but also to return Blacks who were living in freedom in the Everglades to Slavery. It's a sad story.

@@shanimuhayman7129 It's said that every black American whose ancestors were here by 1860 has _at least_ 5% European ancestry. And you definitely can *not* tell a book by looking at its cover. A person with as much as 20% African ancestry can look 100% European and a person with as much as 20% European ancestry can look 100% African. There really is *not* any such. thing as a. "pure" race. Nobody would ever think that I was anything but African., but I have Swedish, Maltese, and Philippine ancestry.

I like the way these results were reported and I agree with Lara O'neal. This is a very watchable video. Some may be surprised that the percentage of African is less than half, but even within a single family with the same mother and father, the range of appearance can be wide among children. I wonder what baiyinadotcom's siblings look like?

I'm tempted to do the DNA thing myself, but I don't think there'd be any big surprises. I'm English/German/Norwegian/Irish, so pale and blond that I get a sunburn by opening the fridge. My wife states that I may have higher than average Neanderthal admixture as well.

youd be suprised a famous kenyan from the great rift valley where they found the fossils of the early man did a DNA and he found out he was related to people living in Greece yet his family was not of mixed race!
rationalguy I am an extremely pale redhead and when I did my DNA I found the Irish I expected but was surprised to find African ancestry on my fathers side and Native American on my moms.

Hi, I'm actually Scottish, Born & Bred, with a FRench Surname, I'm not sure how much you know on British History?
in 1066 The French Normans invaded Britain thereby bringing in French names.
but Britain was also invaded by the Angles & Saxons (Germans) bringing in German Surnames, (When the Angles, Saxons, Jutes, and Frisians invaded Britain, during the 5th and 6th centuries AD, the area they conquered slowly became known as England (from Angle-land)
A Little known fact now is that the Royal Family is German by Ancestry, they were Originally The House of Hanover, part of the Hanoverians, but as the First World War got Underway The Queen Mother decided to change their name to Windsor, as it sounded more British, thereby trying to distance themselves from the Germans who were now at war with the rest of Europe.
So It is very possible that your Mother could be of English descent with a German Surname.

I think you look like you could be German or Scandinavian (I've known many German/Scandinavian women and I have a German grandma myself). I predict that you are the daughter of a darker-skinned black person and a lighter-skinned black person, or possibly the daughter of a black person and a white person. You look light enough to have a fully white parent, though I could be wrong. I know that the slave trade made for a range of skin tones in people who identify as solely black (and for understandable reasons!).

Former Detroiter here: A huge amount of African American people came up from the south from 1910-1940's to find work in the factories there (auto and munitions for WW2). Detroit was one of the few cities early on doing manufacturing and it was a huge hub to find jobs at the time...that is if you didn't want to do migrant farming. Also, escaping from the Jim Crow issues in the south probably was a big thing, too.

The Native American claim is part of folklore in USA. It is best to actually know your ancestors before trying to claim them.
The diaspora of enslaved Africans ( captured by other Africans for sale to English, Portuguese, Dutch, etc ) was painful due to loss of TRIBAL origins for majority of enslaved persons. Tribes, not Countries.
Her Seminole ancestor could be Black Seminole, escaped slaves and freedmen who joined with the Seminoles--around 300 years of history there and their own unique cultural identity.
@@KatherineStarbird while that could be, I'm not sure that's what she or her family would mean when they say "100% Seminole". Most Americans are referring to having an ancestor of indigenous ancestry, not just cultural affiliation, when they say things like that.
Yes, most of us here in the US have family folklore of being part Native American. Most families tell of a "Indian princess 4th great-grandmother" or something similar. Both sides of my family had the same stories. I've taken DNA tests from two different companies, and both say I'm 1% indigenous Northern American (Native American). No, I don't run around telling people I'm Native American, but it is interesting for me and I wonder where that 1% came from.

Lot of Seminoles & Creek Indians in the southeast USA esp Florida and parts of Georgia, intermingled with African runaway slaves. Creeks were also in Mississippi, Alabama as well.

The rest is all European and seemingly all the Europeans were just wandering around mingling n mingling. Also, they are not native to Florida. All the native Floridian tribes are gone. The Seminoles and Miccosukees were forced to relocate during the 1800’s.
