It could be that the Swedish and Scottish are connected. Vikings settled Great Britain early...like 500AD...and many of the people in England and Scotland have remnants of those Viking visitors in their DNA. In history, that portion of Great Britain they settled is called the Danelaw if you wanted to learn a bit about it.
Thank you so much for this! I love getting more information about my results Bc I’m clueless lol but it’s nice to have people like you educating me on the history. I appreciate that!
@@tamerachanel Well...to be honest, part I knew from my undergrad in history...but it wasn't until Ancestry started doing their upgrades and first, 3% Norwegian popped in, and the next upgrade changed it to 3% Swedish that I began to explore myself. Most of my lines go back before the Revolutionary War, and nary a Norwegian nor Swedish surname in the bunch. That's when I remembered about the Danelaw and since 90+% of my Ancestry comes from England, Scotland, Wales, and Ireland, I figured those were remnants of Viking settlers over time.
Mine was Nigeria, Benin/Togo, Senegal, Bantu people’s, Mali, Ghana, Sierra Leone. I’m biracial, and my European DNA was Mostly Scandinavian and Northern Europe/British/ Wales

Thanks! I sent for a DNA test and am awaiting its arrival. What I gather from what my elders have told me is that my ancestors came from Scotland. It seems that there is a Pictish ancestry. They have told me that our family also has Cherokee blood. I believe the fog of time has obscured most of my real ancient ancestry. What I know now may be mostly a myth. I mean to learn the real story. Maybe we're related! 🤓
Congrats on your results! I did mine at the start of the year too. Interesting to see other Black American results! Those first 4 countries are down to chattel slavery. Likely to be much less about movement on the continent and loads more about how our ancestors were forced to have children for slave labour. They were all robbed from West Africa and this reflects that. I’ve got those first 4 too. ☺️ Also interesting to see where your British/European DNA comes through. I always thought mine was so high bc of slave master abuse…guess it’s down to the white great grandparent I never knew. I’m 17% UK&I. Hope you get to make it to Europe someday. I’ve lived here for a long time now and love it.
Africans were sold by Africans not just stolen by Europeans. Not all were raked. My Native American grandmother and my British grandfather were in love and had five boys. All races have been abused either by others or just by those that are cruel within their own culture.
It’s not all like that my British grandfather and my native grandmother married and were in love. Africans sold their own race to Europeans they were not all stolen. All people through history have had cruel people within their own - it’s not just one race abused.
@@elizabethwilk9615 Actually, you are completely and profoundly wrong. Africans just didn't "sell their own race to Europeans", they traded and sold "slaves" and such others goods from the western world during that era. In Africa, the "slaves" that you think of as in slavery in America is completely different. The "slaves" in their homeland were not beaten, were not starved, were not made to work from dusk to dawn, rain sleet or snow, were not raped and tortured endlessly for the gain and superiority of others. They were simply normal people who committed crimes. The whole western ideology and conceptualization of slavery is completely European based not African based, so don't try to compared the two. It's apples and watermelons.
You are beautiful. To answer your question, I guess I am Jewish ✡ 50 percent. And I am also Polish, British, Germanic from Swiss, Estonian, Scottish and Norwegian. Per ancestry DNA.

I am so curious about being “matched” does this mean people you may be related to? Sorry first video. I want to take a couple of the tests. Thanks for the video! Very exciting!
Correct so if someone you are related to also did a dna test you will be matched with them. Sometimes ancestry is off by the relationship of the family member though because I noticed on mine my real life uncle who is my moms brother showed up on my dna test as my cousin and I googled it because he’s really my uncle no doubt lol and on Google it says that that happens often on ancestry. But yeah keep my updated on your results once you do it!!
As you rightly pointed out, Nigeria, Mali, Benin, Togo, Cameroon and Congo are all geographically close. Note that these countries are *artificial* borders created long after slavery. Between 1881 and 1914 , Europeans colonialists brutally carved up Africa for administrative convenience, without caring to keep tribes together in one country. So, one tribe can stretch across several African countries. It just means that your tribal ancestors inhabited the general areas where the named countries exist today. Anyway, Mama Africa misses her daughters. When are you coming for a visit?
I love this video. Good job putting it together. Thanks for sharing your experience, thanks for showing us your dna results. What is your family history, your results don't look typical for an African American's results.

Hi Tamera I enjoyed watching your video and you had very great results. Do you mind sharing the "Additional Communities" which will tell you where your family has lived for the past few hundreds of years.
you should do 23andme if you really want to deep dive into the different countries. The fact you have French chances are you also have Italian, Portuguese, and Spain. In some of the other Countries you mentioned, I have strong feelings you have more ancestry there because of how close they all are. Ancestry is great for DNA relatives but 23andme is amazing for finding out about different ethnicities. Blew my mind. I thought I was 100% Scottish/ British- Shocker to discover I was NOT. Not even close. Hell, I am not even 100% European (pretty close though) and I am only a second-generation Canadian! I 100% know where half my grandparents are from because they immigrated from there. (I thought I knew where all my grandparents were from hence why I thought I was 100% Scottish and English) If you haven't tried it, try it! They even have haplogroups for Maternal and Paternal (For you you would only have your Mother's show up because you are a woman- but if you have a bio full brother or dad who does the test too, then it will show your paternal Haplogroup. I actually was able to figure out a "relative" I didn't know was a relative until the test- who his bio parents were starting with his Haplogroups. Anyways. needless to say, all the people who said to me someone is lying to you, you should do one of those Ancestry tests WERE RIGHT! I have done Ancestry too- but as a "Second opinion" haha. It was very general with my different ancestors lumping a lot together- But... it did confirm I was not who I thought I was. I have a feeling you have some West Asian- Just based on some of the countries you had mentioned. One thing I have learned from doing these tests- we are all 6 degrees from being the same - With how easy it is to travel right now- it's going to keep growing!
DNA is a funny thing. I knew my family was Pennsylvania Dutch, Lutheran. I married a guy who’s father was former Amish, and mother was Pennsylvania Dutch, Methodist. My daughter had her DNA done, it came back 90% German and 10% Scandinavian/Swiss. Some of us have defects, especially the ones born with light blonde hair and blue eyes. I was born that way, and my son, and his daughter all have defects, similar to loss of pigment, patches of white hair, missing teeth, and stuff. That’s what happens in closed societies, inner-breeding.
90% German is a crazy percentage. That's almost purebred. Reminds me of Conan talking about being 100% Irish and being inbred 😂 DNA is a magical thing.
My aunt did our genealogy back in the 1970’s. Our family came from Germany in 1690, and lived in ‘secs’ in mountain communities in Pennsylvania. The biggest enemy were the English and no interbreeding with them was allowed. They lived humble lives, did not travel beyond the county they were born. All of them were farmers or worked on farms, my dad was the first to go to a local college. I spent much time at my grandfather’s farm, after traveling as a young adult, I came back to Pa and bought a farm. Not all white people are alike. The Irish are mostly Catholic and have their own traditions.
To figure out how to determine your matches relation to you click on them then click shared matches to determine which side then look at the number of centamorgans you should be able to figure it out
A large portion of scotland's DNA will show up Swedish/nordic and irish due to migration patterns as well, so it may just be a single scottish ancestor.
my results have brought so far so much knowledge bc I knew nothing, but I’ve also uncovered secret hidden family members, family that was put up at birth, family members that were products of rape etc the further back I go the darker it gets including slavery, native Americans being slaughtered and then the widowed wives and orphans of them men slaughtered in a specific town bc the wives and of the ppl who did it 😭 I’ve found all this out in like a week and I did my test in 2014 but never messed with it lol I guess my gut instinct was right in I should just not look at it lol this is so sad and wild but also I’m hooked and obsessed with finding out more and more each day
My mom grew up being told she's French, Native and Irish. She's Spanish, African, British and Balkan and Scandinavian. I’ve just done my dna test waiting results. I’m 80 per cent positive I know my ancestry, but want a break down because all my life I’ve heard I’m mixed with this and that and light skinned for my culture.
Btw Your heritage created the beauty you are! Your so stunning and thank you for sharing your journey
Aww Thank you so much♥️ Im glad you enjoyed the video and I’m excited for you to get your results! Let me know once you get them I love hearing everyone’s results too!!!
I got my ancestry results! Yes the 80 percent estimate I thought was right but also I’m German, Norwegian, Irish, Mexican, Portuguese east European, english, Guamanian and Samoan. I’m shocked!!
Most African American's first country is Nigeria then Cameroon, Congo, Mali, Senegal, Angola, etc . You and I have almost the same countries.
Wow really? That’s cool! Thank you for watching🙏🏽
Mine was Nigeria, Benin/Togo, Senegal, Bantu people’s, Mali, Ghana, Sierra Leone. I’m biracial, and my European DNA was Mostly Scandinavian and Northern Europe/British/ Wales

Omg! So I'm very Irish and I'm absolutely still obsessed with the movie Luck of the Irish! 💚 I just watched it this past Saint Patrick's Day and I'm 28! I plan on passing it forward to my future kids someday lol!
So interesting! Thank you for your video. Definitively, your mix is the secret of beauty, congrats😉🥰
Aww Thank you! Glad you enjoyed ✨
you are 100% beautiful. Without all that dna it couldn't happen. Truly dark & lovely light & bright😍 A girl of the world💖
Aww Thank you soo much!
Thank you for this information! Yes I definitely will visit one day!!🙏🏽
Africans were sold by Africans not just stolen by Europeans.
Hey Ariel king they were enslaved by their own people and then sold out. Not forced by whites.
I got some of the same results from my DNA test. There is a good chance we maybe related. The only thing you haven't mentioned was the Ivory Coast.

Congratulations on your results after taking the test from Ancestry and most of your lineage is Mali and Nigeria followed by Cameroon and Benin and Togo.
I took the same test back in May and I got my results back last week and it turns out my overall percentage is 96-98% African with 2% European and both sides of my family are from The Bahamas.
In my case it’s mostly Cameroon and Nigeria followed by Mali, Benin and Togo.

Thank you for this information! I would love to visit Africa and travel sometime in the near future!
I know that this is late but you are drop dead gorgeous!! You are a gorgeous mix!! Slay girl!!❤

I love this video. Good job putting it together. Thanks for sharing your experience, thanks for showing us your dna results. What is your family history, your results don't look typical for an African American's results.
Majority of blk americans have between 19-25% white some have more. Also some have NA ancestry its typical results

You 100% should! You’ll get to know just alittle bit more about yourself and it might even surprise you like how my results surprised me!!🙏🏽
@@tamerachanel do You have to get the free trial? Or how do You get the box?
you should do 23andme if you really want to deep dive into the different countries.
For some reason, I thought your African would be lower than mine. 77% on Ancestry; 76% on 23 & Me. Thanks, for sharing.
Really enjoyed this video, thanks for sharing!

Nigeria and English Cameroon where once under thesame colonial master Britain
