Pacific Islanders do have SE Asian ancestry and there's African in there too. Ethiopia is East African and it borders the Indian Ocean. You are a beautiful mix!
Think about when Slavery ended. 1865. So from the time of the end of slavery, there has been interracial relationships since then. 152 yrs since the end of Slavery that there have existed Interracial relationships. Not everyone is the product of slavery. I wish people would stop assuming that their DNA ONLY comes from slavery.
XFiles 4EverEver You seem to forget the fact that all black Americans have some European admixture, so if multiple biracial people and multiple people with significant European ancestry who all identify as black keep mixing with each other that means they'll still be a significant amount of European ancestry in them. I'm only 19% European, but that's a significant amount when taking in account the last time I had a European ancestor which was about 1850 something.
XFiles 4EverEver Its not a choice if the institution was set up where the dynamics of the relationship is escaping poverty and marrying someone white. Love might have been apart of it ....but it was not a healthy love . Also when slavery was abolished it still continued many yrs after. Hence 400 yrs jim crow etc. Please dont spread false ideology. Like it was actually a choice. Your explanation is a bit skewed. Regardless of love developing...the psychological, physical and spirtual abuse created broken individuals. We have come a long way and still have a long way to go.
XFiles 4EverEver Great explanation and thank you! This was the case with my great grandparents. Not everyone was raped. Real love did manifest between some, although rare. It was not all forced mingling/breeding
I've always been skeptical about the ancestry database. idkw. but I am. you can also do your family history through genealogy. I have a client that studies genealogy and traced her family lineage all the way to Europe.
y scott You're right to be sceptical. The database is not a direct representation of your actual genetic ancestry more like which populations carry those genes today and have submitted their info to the database. East Africa is a perfect example as the northern regions have gone through an almost 50% population replacement within the last 28,000 years and thus if your ancestry test pulls up east African your actual ancestry may well be from the middle east.
@@greeny202ab You are missing other research aspects. And they don't claim to be 100% so there is a margin of error. I bet you wouldn't have a problem with a paternity test! 😂 That aside, this gives people(ESPECIALLY descendants of slaves) the ability to find their identities and that is empowering and liberating. That is MASSIVE. And it's MUCH more reliable than a family's guesses, assumptions, or memories. The history of the slave was obviously wiped out, so the trail is very short for most African Americans for instance. Science is OBJECTIVE so, I would place more confidence in it.
@@rogerwilliams4742 You misunderstand. If you get an African DNA result of 100% Cameroon that does not mean your ancestors originate in Cameroon, it just means that in their database TODAY 100% of their samples carry your same markers. Or on other words you come from a population that lives in Cameroon today.
I love this so much. Thank you for sharing your results, as well as the background of those results We truly are walking melting pots. Though I have a pretty good stab that I'm of European descent, I really don't know much about my ancestors from either sides. We suspect my great great grandmother may have been a Jew who fled and survived the Holocaust. It'd be really interesting doing this for myself...
uuh you come from Togo, where I come from too hihi. I so wish I could do one of these tests myself but as of rn I don't have the necessary money yet, but eventually I'll come down to it. And oh btw it was super great that you explained where you were cause lately there were definitely some times where I was like… ehmmm no, I actually don't already know haha .. Take care girl :* :*
31% is too high to come from slavery. That means that you're mom was likely 60%+ European and one of her parents was full blown European. This means that you have a full blooded European ancestor born well after 1900. So it's quite possible that it was a love story after all.
Thank you for saying this. I spoke with a geneticist and she told me the same thing. People whose ancestors come from a master slave relationship have less than 12.5% European in them today if they married only people of color. Slavery ended in 1865 over a 154 years ago! That is six or seven generations ago or one's great-great-great-grandmother! For people born after 1940 and have more than 15% European in them, this means that the mix is more or less in one's immediate family (parent or grandparent). Gens do not divide into equal parts: 50%, 25%, 12.5% and 6.25, etc. They are somewhat off with a person of biracial descent being 54% European and 46% African/Black. African Americans have the problem where a person who is 25% W/75%B marries someone who is 12.5%W/87.50B! This combination can have multiple outcomes. Do this over several generations, then you can indeed get a 33/67 split like the one above. People should also be aware that the category of North African is in principle it's own racial group, but is often put with Africa as to not cause confusion. In my case I got a 20% W/77B/3% Other split. I was told by the geneticist that with such a large percentage that my grandmother was most likely white and my mother biracial. I am 53 years old, my biological mother was 16 when she had me, placing my grandmother's birth shortly after WWI! WWI is 50 years after slavery. Thus, my question to my biological nanna is what was she doing at the Cotton Club or during the roaring 20s! For millennials, you are eight times more likely to be a product of an interracial union which was not one of rape. Over the last 60 years, there has been a ten fold increase of interracial children being born! As much as people want to be made at white folks for raping enslaved black women, this idea is starting to be misleading as black men are eight times more likely to marry across the color line as black women. The better question should be is, "Nanna what were did you come from and who was great-grandma?!"
@@deannajoseph708 If you were73% African, this would leave 27% European. The result would be that your GRANDMOTHER OR GRANDFATHER would be white or your parents bother had a racial mixture of at least 25% or more! That is your great grandparent was white, making him or her born at the end of WWI or WWII--not the Civil War! This means it is time to let these slave narratives go and ask ourselves what our grandparents and great-grandparents were actually doing!
@@caseypierre-louis6725 Yes but it's not Sub-Saharan Africa but Northern African. The Moroccans do not have a trace of Sub-Saharan DNA in them. They have Berber DNA hence they are not black.
@@WeatherMondacicci that’s not true, Moroccans normally have 5 to 10% West African in them because of the West African slaves taken to Morocco but I have anywhere from 11 to 67% West African and 21 to 28% North African because my father is a black Moroccan from the Gnawa people who were slaves brought to Morocco from West Africa
@Ewarton Charlton People often cite the British as the major slave owners and slave transporters. This is a long way from the truth. The MAJOR slave transporters were the Portuguese who took them to Brazil. The slave trade to Brazil lasted considerably longer than the slave trade to the Americas. Slaves takn to North America were a comparatively small percentage, with far far more going to South and Central America and the West Indies. The Dutch and Spanish were also involved in the slave trade. It also needs to be understood that the saves were not CAPTURED by gangs of Europeans. . They were captured by other Africans, then imprisoned near the harbours, on the west coast of Africa, and sold to the European traders.
Also, many Irish political prisoners were enslaved in the 1600s, so it is very possible that your story is much richer in detail than you can even imagine. I wish were could see our lineages played out in fast forward. This is so fascinating.

This happened either during slavery or at the end of the Civil War ,and they moved to KY . Merry Christmas !
The Khoi-San people of Southern Africa have Asia features, rather Asian have Khoi-San features based on the “out of Africa” theory. So one can have features that are common in Asia and not have Asian ancestry, as those features though prevalent in some Asia countries, are not exclusive to those populations. No feature is exclusive to any ethnic group, some features however are common and/or rare to certain groups, Melody Alisa.
Khoi-San are considered to be similar to the earliest humans. Yes, they have high check bones and somewhat "Asian" eyes. Mandela was partly Khoi-San, you can see it photos.
I love this as a tool to see that everyone is honestly the same. There is no homogenous ethnic group out there and it's a beautiful thing! I think what people may fail to recognize though is that in cases of like, Africa or SE Asia, these nations mentioned would be more for the relative location because your tie to that region may not have existed as a nation at all yet! And my only hope is that people don't start using this as "oh but my DNA test said I'm 2% asian so I'm not racist and I can therefore represent asian culture."
That knowledge about your Irish great-grandpa chilled me to the bone, honestly. :( Also, I LOVE your eye shape, your eyeliner always slays! I'm gonna do this DNA thing with my mum soon, and it'll be interesting to see each percentage of my whiteness lol!

@Babatundeh Oluwafemi Olajenti You don't have to look black to be black, and their is no percentage that determines who is black or not either. I'm Dominican and I'm actually 83% African and I consider myself just Hispanic not Black.
Ethiopia was not involved in the transatlantic slave trade so u won't see it from that side. If u have that genetic pool it might be do to some pre-Atlantic slave trade events in the African continent
Have your parents do the dna as it will reveal even more! And grandparents if they are alive! Cuz your parents have twice what you have and grandparents have Four times what you have! Do it!
Those eyes you have don't only exist in Asia (though mostly) but they also often appear in Africa, particularly Khoisan people. They actually also appear in Europe (particularly northern Europe) and variants of 'Asian' eyes also in Western Europe. It's just that East-Asian people with eyes like that are more seen in the media so people associate those eyes with Asians. By the way, Irish and British people are very mixed with each other too (they're like, right next to each other) so the majority of your 'Irish' is probably your British.
Lolll you seemed surprise that you were from the West part of Africa. Thats where the Africans were taken during the transatlantic slave trade. East Africa was not apart of that especially Ethiopia. Unless you're directly East African, dont expect black Americans or blacks from latin America or the caribbean to be east african lmaoooo. But cool results, nice personality!
Also 'British' is not really a group. They just generalise it. English people are Germanic whilst Scots and Welsh are Celtic, more closely related to Irish
Take a 23andMe test, too. My Asian or Native American didn't show up on Ancestry, either. I did get West Asian, mine was Caucasus, buy my mom got Asia Central, and West Asian, on Ancestry. Then, on 23andMe, I got Southeast and East Asian. I was just like you, because I thought I would have some too, because of my features. I think the Asian is related to the fact that my mom shows up about 14% Eastern European, Slavic, Balkan, Finnish, and Siberian, on GEDMatch and DNA.Land. I got Finnish, Eastern, and Balkan. So, the Asian is related to that and the Native American. On my dad's side... I'm half West Indian, though. Lol.
Also, "slanted" eyes are actually an African trait. A few tribes that you've named have the same facial feature!
Yeah that's true! East Asians and some African tribes both developed the slanted eye trait separately, which I think is so cool! :)

Pacific Islanders do have SE Asian ancestry and there's African in there too. Ethiopia is East African and it borders the Indian Ocean. You are a beautiful mix!
Before the results begin. I’d assume:
65-75% African
25-35% European
Maybe 0-5% Native American
LOL I just love the face you made when you said Europe
Interesting video! #earlysquad
Awesome results! Random, but I love the paint color in your room :-) I have my results posted on my channel too!
Irish ancestry does not just cover Ireland if u care to know about that side do some research about those islands genetic pool
Juana Castillo Yes because my grandfather Irish but when I took the DNA test he stated I was Scandinavia
I’m a white American and it said I’m 98.5% European :)
AYYE my Cameroonian sister! Welcome!
I've always wanted to do this. I didn't realize that it was so inexpensive. Do you think they can ship to China?
Think about when Slavery ended. 1865. So from the time of the end of slavery, there has been interracial relationships since then. 152 yrs since the end of Slavery that there have existed Interracial relationships. Not everyone is the product of slavery. I wish people would stop assuming that their DNA ONLY comes from slavery.
She stated that the slave owner had 12 children with her ancestor. How is that assuming? Help me understand your view point.
XFiles 4EverEver shut up.
XFiles 4EverEver
You seem to forget the fact that all black Americans have some European admixture, so if multiple biracial people and multiple people with significant European ancestry who all identify as black keep mixing with each other that means they'll still be a significant amount of European ancestry in them.
I have a client that studies genealogy and traced her family lineage all the way to Europe.
y scott i
y scott
You're right to be sceptical.
Can she trace mine back to Africa?
I think 64% Europe, 34% Africa and 2% Asian
I love this so much. Thank you for sharing your results, as well as the background of those results We truly are walking melting pots. Though I have a pretty good stab that I'm of European descent, I really don't know much about my ancestors from either sides. We suspect my great great grandmother may have been a Jew who fled and survived the Holocaust. It'd be really interesting doing this for myself...
Andd I always already know where you're coming to me live from cos I never miss a video since I first subscribed
uuh you come from Togo, where I come from too hihi.
Wow you know her family and life story ???
black americans are usually around 73% african ssa so that's almost average
Not true my mom is about 32 percent and we are related to many slave owners on one family line.
THE SQUINTED EYES THING...Asians get that from us Africans not the other way around, so you probably have heritage of the San people
@@ilovesoup17 Morocco is in Africa.
@@caseypierre-louis6725 Yes but it's not Sub-Saharan Africa but Northern African. The Moroccans do not have a trace of Sub-Saharan DNA in them. They have Berber DNA hence they are not black.
WRONG
@@WeatherMondacicci that’s not true, Moroccans normally have 5 to 10% West African in them because of the West African slaves taken to Morocco but I have anywhere from 11 to 67% West African and 21 to 28% North African because my father is a black Moroccan from the Gnawa people who were slaves brought to Morocco from West Africa
The "Irish" slave owner might have been British gentry living in Ireland?
@Ewarton Charlton BRAZIL HAD THE FIRST AFRICAN SLAVES SOLD BY AFRICANS.
@Ewarton Charlton
People often cite the British as the major slave owners and slave transporters.
I've always want to do this with my husband! So cool! Thanks so much for sharing. :)
Also, many Irish political prisoners were enslaved in the 1600s, so it is very possible that your story is much richer in detail than you can even imagine. I wish were could see our lineages played out in fast forward. This is so fascinating.
When she said Namibian I was like yay😁
Now you have got me all excited!! I will do my DNA TEST next month August! you are so silly but a lot of fun. I am very happy for you thank you for sharing the news I am a new subscriber and just happened to find you
I liked your results, ours was quite similar. What I found interesting was that I too was hoping I was East Asian because I have hooded eyes and they get smaller when I smile too; got West Asian instead.
Hello Melody. I saw that you are partly descendant of someone coming from Cameroon/ Gabon and Congo. Being Gabonese, I am happy to hear about that. Hope that you could get more acurate details about your Bantu origins
Hello from Nigeria! ❤
I figured you'd have a bit of Nigeria in you.
henrietta akubue it's such s big country lol
I AMMM FROMMM KENYAAAA GANG GANG WHEN I FIRST SAW I THOUGHT YOU WERE FROM KENYA
Blessed 101 She looks more Namibian or South African.
wow my dad was adopted too!! i did 23 and me instead though btw i love your content you're a gorgeous and woke young woman!!
That facial expressions she made when checking her European background. I Died! 😂😂😂😂😂
I'm 97 percent European! :D
+Aaa Aaa All slave owners; who had slaves; were very brutal to their slaves, meaning that there is no nice way to own a human!!
+Aaa Aaa Well, you must have been there!!!! 👎
Aaa Aaa obviously shes not talking about the people trying to save slaves shes talking about the ones that were cruel and brutal!
+Aaa Aaa Health care and an education! Are you kidding me? Stop sugar coating slavery!! It was wrong on all aspects of human bondage! I'm done!!! 👎
I'm interested in getting mine now because I've always assumed West African because my mom and dad's parents are both from Jamaica. I don't know which countries exactly so it would be fun to find out. Great video Melody!
Great video! Thanks for sharing them with us.
Hey ❤️❤️❤️ Do happy for you !!FYI My mom looks asian without even smiling and is lighter than you abd is 100% Cameroonian love 😘😘
I like your intro-it needs to stay the way it is!
Both of my parents were born and raised in Jamaica. I have been told there are some mixtures in the lineage but who knows? If I ever have children, I will do this.
My Great Great (I think its 2nd Great) Grandmother is black and married my Great Great Grandfather in WV and they had a bunch of children , there was love between BW and WM and marriage . Congratulations on your Ancestry Results ! My grandmother on my mom's side told me about it when I was a kids , she said people thought she (my GG Grandmother) was Indian , but she was black . This happened either during slavery or at the end of the Civil War ,and they moved to KY . Merry Christmas !
I LIKE HOW THE MUSIC STOPS THEN RESTARTS LOL!
Thanks for sharing your results.
gotdam that's one pretty woman......
Mandela was partly Khoi-San, you can see it photos.
what an interesting video!!!!!! love this
I think it's perfectly fine to get a new tag line. We grow. Things change. Maybe, '...you guessed it...' instead of 'you already know'.
Neat! I want to find out what my ethnic groups are!
Annyeonghaseyo, Melody! What is that dope little jingle that plays whenever you say "...you aaaaalready know!" at the beginning of your videos? I must have it! :)
It's from Childish Gambino's song 'The Palisades'
Thank you!
Mel I believe there are sites you can put your info into to get more details
I am white,I am Asian I am mixed, I am atheist, I am religious,I am bad,I am good, I am extra + ordinary and still part of this world!
actually I am a simple human being who likes to travel and wants to experience the beauty of mother nature but I get tired sometimes!!!!being a mixed kid is really not a good experience for me!!I hate it when people say I should stay loyal to my mom's culture sometimes my dad's culture
but hey people why can't I be a part of the WORLD CULTURE ????
Minori ruba I have never walked in your shoes, but I would say, you have the ability to view the world from two different perspectives and that is a good thing. Do not allow small-minded people on your journey. If they cannot appreciate and embrace all the variety in your unique journey, rescind their visa. They can book a different trip. Life is too short.
i love the "extra + ordinary" hahaha
You can be who you choose to be....own it, live it and let the haters choke on it. Happy travels to you..
I think if you learned our history, Mixed history, you would feel more connected. You need to research and also connect with other mixed people.
Very neat mix! I so wanna do this too one of these days lol!
love ur videos would like to specially mention ur makeup ,it looks natural and good would love if u could do video on makeup tips
youre so happy i love it
Why do you identify with your African-American heritage than European heritage? Also what percentage do you consider African-American/Black?
@Babatundeh Oluwafemi Olajenti You don't have to look black to be black, and their is no percentage that determines who is black or not either. I'm Dominican and I'm actually 83% African and I consider myself just Hispanic not Black.
Ethiopia was not involved in the transatlantic slave trade so u won't see it from that side. If u have that genetic pool it might be do to some pre-Atlantic slave trade events in the African continent
I am 14% Melanesia also. That was my only surprise.
What is your haplogroup?
I know this video is old, but can you please tell me the name of the back ground music because it is the BOMB!
Have your parents do the dna as it will reveal even more! And grandparents if they are alive! Cuz your parents have twice what you have and grandparents have Four times what you have! Do it!
I'm 100% African Nigerian especially but born in Ivory coast and reside in the US
Those eyes you have don't only exist in Asia (though mostly) but they also often appear in Africa, particularly Khoisan people.
You were in Korea for two years, how awesome. How old are you.
Are you serious about your ugly profile pic lol
Lolll you seemed surprise that you were from the West part of Africa. Thats where the Africans were taken during the transatlantic slave trade. East Africa was not apart of that especially Ethiopia. Unless you're directly East African, dont expect black Americans or blacks from latin America or the caribbean to be east african lmaoooo. But cool results, nice personality!
Bethany M EXACTLY!!!!! the people think they can clame us so much....
You act like there's such a fucking difference between East and West African 😂💯
MonIIs Yosef and no one wants to claim anyone that can't even spell "claim". So get over yourself 💯
Yeah. But I won't be surprised if she had some East African in her.
The Planet Saturn I am African American. What an ignorant comment to make. Yes, there are cultural and language differences, for one.
I just did one of these!! ❤️❤️❤️
You're gorgeous!!! so you're DNA did you good lol
Just a beautiful light
You have to remember alot of the so called "Irish/British-Americans" were mixed themselves before and after settling in America...
Irish and Britain is the same. Ethiopians are mixed with Arabian or North African so you still maybe that too.
Irish and British is NOT the same. Not ethnically and not culturally. Entire wars have been fought over this fact. Good Lord.
Also 'British' is not really a group. They just generalise it. English people are Germanic whilst Scots and Welsh are Celtic, more closely related to Irish
Don't be so sure there wasn't a lot of love from your European side. Everyone is different - look at the love you have.
Lol.
Its nice to see something who is excited about their African heritage. l wonder which one is better between ancestry.com and my heritage or 23 and me?
I always wondered about that intro. LOL
Love the vid
I wish I could one day I will have the $$ to do it.
TheJazzie6 they do specials for like 20 to 50% off. Ya just got to watch for em.
how much you spend on hair care and products you can afford it ,it's just not a priority
The might take e.b.t !
Lol I always feel like I missed something when you said you already know, because i didnt know!
At 4:44 she finally starts talking about the results
Hay, congratulations you are an American deal with it!
An African American friend of mine has a cousin who teaches in Seoul South Korea. Do you teach there too? Great results btw
