The best way to understand your results is to build your family tree and research the cities/regions your ancestors lived in. I'm German, but my results have Baltic, Sweden & Denmark, and England/NW Europe (my sister has Eastern Europe/Russia/Poland in her results). It helps I know where my grandparents and great-grandparents were born and that at various times throughout history, the regions were controlled by Russians, Polish, German and Swedish.
No wonder I find you pretty because you’re part Filipina as I am born in Manila, part Portugese ancestry. Filipina mixed with European makes beautiful women- look at Miss Universe Wurtzbach and Gray. You’ll love the Philippines.
Wow I looked them up and they are so beautiful!!
She looks 0% Filipina
@@Angel-Azrael Filipinos come very range of traits and when they mix with other social races, gets more diverse. For example , Enrique Iglesias is half Spaniard and less half Filipino( his mom is 1/2 Filipino and 1/2 Spaniard, looks more typical Filipino). Filipinos are considered very beautiful people( they are very different than other Asian neighbors ).

Now I want to test myself. I have an Irish last name, but will likely mutt-out--that's cool. Thanks for the link, video, and loved the hypnotic tag.

40% Eastern European, 27% Germanic, 21% Sweden and Denmark, 10% Baltic, 2% Norway. Some of my traits were true, most were not. I have also put my family tree onto Ancestry and the DNA ethnicities match quite closely to what I know of my family history. Some branches I can trace back to Charlemagne and Ragnar Lothbrok. These stem from the historical records of the Brahe, Stenbock, and Vasa family lines.
I'm what you refer to as a MUTT, no pure breed blood in my DNA. My friend was 90% Eastern European Polish and 10% Japanese. So she was almost pure breed. I have 8 different DNA markers, German, English, Irish, Spanish, Swedish, Jewish, Portuguese and Scottish. My 3 highest percentages were German, Swedish and English.
@@danielhackney7806 I have feeling since you test with DNA ancestry Portuguese, Spanish and Scottish. That Spanish may be from Galicia( on top of Portugal)/ Asturies/Basque country Some test don't separate the regions of Spain other rest do.

@mollyeich True, haha, also on a side note you should go to the Philippines, had one of my greatest trips there, the sea there is just amazing, and the life in the sea is next leve, get on one of those boat expeditions to remote islands in the middle of nowhere. Cant recommend that enough for anyone who wants an adventure. Indonesia as well, although you do not have any family relations there is also up there with marine biodiversity, and an amazing place. Only thing with that region is that well, drug laws is a bit on the stricter end in both the Philippines and Indonesia for that matter, where penalty can be death.

They're better than MyHeritage (the company I went with) which has a smaller database.
I asked you that, a year or so, ago. I've wondered for so long, that very thing, about myself. I got the test, and now I know, Im primarily Dutch. Hmm.

Ethnicity is not the same as nationality. Country borders are political, not ethnic. Each of the DNA companies divide up the geographic areas differently and have different reference panels. Note that the Scotland geographic area includes Northern Ireland, the northern third of England, and down into Brittany in France. It's not "Scottish" DNA.
Western Africa is where the export ports for the slave trade were located. Americans that have traces of ancestry from these areas often have distant ancestors who were victims.

congratulations on your ancestry results-as you surmised it is well known that the traits are not in any way accurate (since they are basically 50/50 guesses)-23andMe lost a huge lawsuit and had to stop saying the things they were about the "traits" part of dna tests… haha. but the dna (racial) profile is very close. Ancestry has the largest database (exponentially compared to some other tests) so they lead the field in accuracy for race/genetic history. i found one the best parts of getting results was the curiosity/affirmation of ethnic feelings/awakenings/rediscovering/longings/etc. like you said about your love of the sea-definitely could be genetic memory passed down (maternally especially-they have proven that) to you of the lifestyles your ancestors lived… pretty cool. thanks for sharing… (p.s. think i got reccommened your channel because i usually watch peoples dna results tests when the show them hahah)
"What are you?" Believe it or not, I've been asked this exact question multiple times. Apparently, some people think I look like I'm Mexican or Middle Eastern. I always thought that my ancestors came from Ireland, England, Wales, Germany, France, and Austria (with rumors of some Native American ancestry) and a DNA test confirmed that my ancestors came from all of those places, plus Scotland and minus the Native American part. I just happen to have dark hair and tan easily in the sun (I almost never get sunburns).
You are so out there!! 😂You have a good life.. the sea and all. Thanks for sharing.I am actually right now waiting for my results from 3 different companies! Myheritage, tellmegen and ancestry.I want to compare the results from 3 places to test for accuracy!

I don't think it's a loaded question to ask what you are. It's only because you don't know that makes it seem so. It's interesting to find out with this test, although from my understanding is that different DNA tests actually gives you different answers.
Awesome, been waiting for this one. Even knowing Molly's genetic ancestry, I still am curious on what makes Molly, Molly? I feel the answer to this has yet to be answered. By the way, I love the intro, the first 22 seconds if very grabby.

We may be distant cousins. My Mom's mom's mom's dad was Thomas Dean. He emigrated from Ireland to Wisconsin about 1850. He died in 1865 in the Battle of Atlanta, fighting for the Union Army.
A lot of Scottish people moved to Northern Ireland because of oppression from the English. A lot of families would say they were Irish in the generations after even though they were ethnically Scottish.
This makes so much sense
I have a similar makeup to you. Except I’m Native American instead of Filipino. My “Irish” side is Scottish and Irish mixed because of this. I found records even of ancestors moving from southern Scotland to Northern Ireland before coming to the US in the early 1900’s. They always said Irish and we found out that mix is very common in Northern Ireland.
I also get the “what are you” question a lot. I usually say Celtic and Native American because that’s the biggest makeup.
Wow Celtic and Native American is such a unique combination!!
Scottish people moved to Ireland during the plantation of Ulster. They were Scottish protestants who were given land by the British, that was taken from the native Catholic Irish.
@@hhin not all. there were definitely catholics that moved in the highland clearings in order to not be killed by anglican English. My family was one of them. I have records of them moving to County Down and then to the US. They were catholic in irelands and they're still catholic. The Scottish ones and the ones that they married there in my family were catholic. My Native American family is also catholic thanks to residential schools. how those sides combined from shared religion.
No it isn't deep ancestry. These tests only go back approx 6 - 8 generations. However some of your trace regions might not be accurate and you might lose some regions when they do an update.
You have a super interesting dna result.
If African shows up on a commercial test then its probably only in the last 5 or 6 generations. So you will have a comparatively recent ancestor with African ancestry.
I don't know, but I know I Love the way you talk...❤

I'm pretty old guy and just clicked your vid. I am very impressed with your discription of what you are, but you forgot God blessed.
They have communities on dna test for recent ancestry. Another way of saying this would be that you have a close family member born in the Philippines. If it doesn’t have a community it usually means it’s from 150-300 years ago.

You could be scots Irish which are a group of Scottish who migrated to Ireland a few hundred years ago which could be the reason for your Scottish being so high yet identifying as irish
@@nextlifetimebrendan3940 A lot of Americans like to claim Irish ancestry, for sentimental reasons, wether real or not, but these cannot really be separated from Scots & English, or German/Scandinavian forebears, because all NW Europeans are closely related & mixed throughout history.
@@danielferguson3784definitely for some people. In my case it is very accurate. My mom is 100% Irish and we have a decent tree to prove it, my brother and I both read exactly 50%! Now that doesn’t mean every single ancestor ever was Irish but in the last few hundred years, they have been and that’s the genes that we carry and the history that was been told to us was accurate
@@nextlifetimebrendan3940 The history of your family may well be accurate, but the 'Irish', like all people, were never a homogenous people, because the place has been invaded & settled by many varied peoples throughout history, all of whom have added to the gene pool.
And remember, all history includes bias & propaganda, sometimes with a fair bit of wishful thinking & romanticism.

Dude id love to see your results!! This type of stuff is so interesting to me
Build your tree and trace the documents. Remember, we have 128 5th great grandparents. You'll be shocked at what you find. There are more records out there about your family than you know. I'm from America (Texas), but I have no African ancestry. I found immiration records, ship logs, and a lot of information. There were plenty of Irish people who were sent to plantations in the Americas and the Caribbean. Some were pushed for religious beliefs. Others were sometimes wrongfully imprisoned and sent to the American colonies. They put their servitude up as payment for the trip to America, food, clothing, and housing for an agreed upon number of years. Many married into Indian families. After the term was up, the "servants" were released as "Free Whites" or "Free People of Color". Irish were sometimes referred to as "Person of Color". Sometimes, the deals included family members, too. Once freed, they'd buy land and get "servants."
The "masters" began to get slick and trap people in servitude indefinitely (slavery).
My family is a mix of many American Indian tribes, French, Irish, Scottish, Spanish, German, French -Dutch. I'm back to the 1400s/1500s. Read the documents and you'll find some really cool information about your family. Don't put your faith in the percentages (as you said). Each of us has our own family history. Find yours ❤
That’s so cool the you have so much info into your history!!
@@mollyeich I have tons of info. We have the last name Greathouse in my family. Thought it was another American Indian name. Nope! German for = Groethausen from Heidelberger, Stadtkreis, Baden-Württemberg, Germany 15& 1600s. Start your family tree 🙏🏾 . Your family might be right about their origins.
You are incredibly misinformed if you believe you don't have any African ancestry. Not one black ancestor that you may have was every described as "Free White Person" in the census. There was no time when masters "got slick".
not every country has such detailed records as usa.
@@barbtheresa5693 That's true.
You could still be mainly German, because northwestern Europeans all cluster together. Many Germans score English, Irish, Scottish, Welsh, and Norwegian etc. These are ethnicity estimates.
Check your matches, as you may have a lot of German matches.
That’s true , I may be German after all lol
The only aspect of your appearance that would cause me to pause and ponder your ancestry is how you choose to wear your hair. It's difficult to see your natural hair texture. Otherwise you are a beautiful, young woman... at a glance.
Yeah I think the dreads throw people off lol
Hello Molly, thank you for the upload I really enjoyed it!!! And yes I agree with you, you are most definitely made of stardust because you shine like a star in this video! You have absolute natural beauty.
I think it is highly likely that part of your German is showing up under another group. Personally I would rule out 'England & Northwest Europe' because of your high 'Ireland' and 'Scotland' results. And also your small 'Wales' percentage. I would say you are mostly British (of the British Isles). I believe that the rest of your German is instead hiding under your 'Baltics', 'Sweden & Denmark' and 'Jewish' results. Which would put your German up to roughly 14-15%.
Oh and if you come back to the UK I have a gluten free food stall!

Omg gluten free food stall sounds amazing!!! What is it called?
@@mollyeich It's called Toastease. I'm not totally convinced about the name but I had to start somewhere.. I was working with somebody recently in Paris who had to have gluten free produce. It changed my way of thinking and now my ingredients and what i cook because I realised how difficult it was difficult for them. It was quite an easy change to be honest. I should have done it earlier.

If you are over 12.5% in anything thats a grandparent.
*great grandparent.
~25% is grand parent.
No return address anywhere on my kit. I got ripped off. 😢
Oh no!!
Your grandmother is probably 50% or more Irish. Likely one of your grandparents is full Scottish, or two of your grandparents are HALF Scottish. Your 8% German with your German surname probably means your great or 2x great grandfather on your father's father's side is probably full German(assuming you all got your surnames from your fathers). All results less than 5% can either be trace results(mistakes) or you have a 2 or 3 or even 4 x great grandparent from that region. If you work on your family tree, you can sometimes trace every family line back and find out exactly which ancestors where which. Ancestry even can often find photos of ancestors many generations back and so many records, you would be amazed how much you can find. Some family lines can be traced hundreds of years or more! You can also find relatives close and distant in your DNA matches.
Ancestry DNA only goes back at the most 5 or 6 generations, it's not tracing people hundreds of thousands of years into Africa, you may very well have a great great great or more grandparent from Africa. If you want to learn about your ancient DNA, go to My True Ancestry and upload for free for the lowest tier.
