Hey! excellent video. When I apply the ocean modifier, I lose the animation of the surface. Even with a bake, keyframes or using drivers. Do you have any tips to solve that? Thank you!
@@TheCGEssentials Thank you for the quick reply! Yeah, I tried with the time value keyframed at 1 on frame 1 and 6 on the last frame. I also tried using a driver connected to the current frame, but neither worked.
How about simulating a river flow? Say a surging river flow and on the other hand a rather calm river flowing. I was thinking of a car SUV fording a shallow river crossing stuff which should look realistic.
Nice! I work at a museum, and I'm making a Pearl Harbor video to be projected on a horizontal surface that will have 3D ships, piers, hangars, etc. This is perfect!
Also don't forget that awesome foam node designed exactly for this, I believe theres some tutorials up on how to apply it to your water material, it really adds the next level of realism to the water!
Nice look at the Ocean Modifier Justin. It's a really useful feature. I've used it on really low settings before, to add a little detail to water in a swimming pool rendering. In the viewport, selecting Shade Smooth on the plane will really clean up the blocky appearance.
Thank you so much for this tutorial! I was able to easily make an ocean with it. But do you know how to make the ocean interactive? I want to have a little boat sailing on my ocean but if I add physics to it, it just falls through.
I work in the naval industry and am looking for the most intuitive and photorealistic program to show ships, sailboats, powerboats, yachts sailing. Why doesn't anyone talk about this topic? Which engine renders better sailing boats? Blender? Unreal? I'm a Rhinoceros guy rendering on Vray for 3dsMax and loving Twinmotion (despite their UNEXISTING WATER COLLISION OR FOAM SYSTEM), but I'm amazed with these new programs. I don't have so much time to spend. Could you please give me a hand?
why when I "Apply" the Ocean and Boolean modifiers, the ocean & boolean animations don't run? because if I don't click "Apply" , this modifier won't be saved when I export my Blender project to .fbx (for Unity Project), and animations (including ocean and boolean) don't run in .fbx format. what should i do?
@@lynalurex283 no, I give up. I conclude that the unique modifiers in blender (not all) are intended solely for video or image creation, not intended for export to other formats/platform. In the end I found an animation of ocean waves that was designed for Unity, not made using Blender
When i am using ocen modifier, it's working fine without applying the modifier (animating) but when i apply it, it isn't animating anymore. Can someone please help!!
i don't think that's very easily possible. ocean waves are chaotic and never return to a same position? maybe if you reverse the sequence at a clever point that's not very obvious, idk, seems hard,
ok ducky found a way to make it loop perfectly ruclips.net/video/f92ZAMHAu8M/видео.html it basicly involves making 2 ocean modifyers make one start at the beginning and one at the end and blend them in between....and ehh.. well... just see, it works
This look like a lots of fun - must try it. I wonder how difficult it is to make objects look as if they are floating and bobbing about on the surface? 🤔 thanks for the videos. 👍🏻😎
Very nice video! I have a question, I would like to export this animation as an fbx, but when I apply the modifier I am losing the animation.. How can I fix that and keep the animation after applying the modifier? Would really appreciate if anyone knows or has an idea how to fix that! :)
Awesome video. What did you use for the Environment texture file? I noticed there was file in there. My water animation was fine, but my video render was pink.
Hi I need some help regarding rendering. I'm not sure why, but my render result and viewport greatly differs from each other. While my viewport looks at least more like an ocean with the waves and the foams, the render result just looks so smooth with no waves/foam that it looks like slime. On my friend's computer the viewport looks more like the render result. I'm not sure why is my viewport the only one that looks different or how to get my render result to look more like my viewport. Would really appreciate if anyone knows what's this issue I'm facing and how to fix it 🙏 EDIT: Turns out I just had to set the viewport resolution and render to the same value
@@TheCGEssentials Cycles. Sorry for not including lots of details. I've created a reddit post earlier on asking for help on the same question. You can see screenshots of the viewport and render there: www.reddit.com/r/blenderhelp/comments/kgo01z/rendering_of_ocean_looks_different_from_viewport/
Thanks for the video. The scale thing is weird when you apply it, blender still changes the size so you have to resize again. Probably another annoying change when a new version of blender comes out. Despite re-baking and setting a new cache folder blender does nothing and there are no exr files in the cache. There is also nothing to tell you the bake is complete. This software is infuriating. PLEASE PLEASE BLENDER CHARGE PEOPLE A SMALL AMOUNT A MONTH TO PROPERLY DE BUG THIS SOFTWARE.
thx finally got my ocean, however using a really slow gfx-card, gtx 1050 2gb ram, it literally takes 8 sec to render a 640x360 image, but worth the wait.
Hi everyone! Let me know if you have any questions or tips about the ocean modifier in the comments below! :)

At the beginning of your animation, is the time value in the modifier different than the end of your animation?

Yaaa
Great tip! Thanks for mentioning this!
Not only do I like your videos, but have to say, if you've never worked in radio you should... definitely have a voice for radio.
you are officially my go-to guy for tuts now hahahhaha well done

did you figured it out? been trying to export this ocean animation into glb for decades.... ):

Awesome!
Thanks. Great tutorial. You got a new subscribe.
Will you please teach how to animate a floating ship in the ocean.
Is anyone else experiencing an issue where the mesh shrinks when you add the ocean modifier, or it just straight up creates a new mesh?
Is it possible to limit the waves into a circular shape while still having it animated?
thanks alot !! well explained
I'm curious, is there a specific reason not to shade smooth the ocean object?
Nope - just forgot to say anything
How would I go about making this expand to infinity, as if you were in the middle of the ocean?
I'm pretty sure you just apply dynamic paint physics
Best way is to instance it. Maybe a patch of 200 meters. There are other tutorials on this on youtube.
Great tutorial, thank you!!

That's what modifiers do - if you apply it, you're making the current state permanent and the modifier is no longer there
really good tutorial! thank you 😊
Thanks!
Q: how long have you been using blender?
Idk - 8 months or so?
Mag. Ni. Fi. Cent. Plus, don't you think you should give Bonnie some eyes?
Great tutorial, thanks man
No problem!
hey! after render animation I don't know where to open the video it says no software can open it so how can I see the final video thanks?
iam new in this..😌
how can i add double tone colour on the ocean
How can I make it a perfect 10 second loop?

Do you apply the modifiers before rendering or does it matter?

I've seen people use the shrinkwrap modifier to match objects to the surface - never done it myself, but I don't think it's as hard as it sounds
following but im not getting even close what it shows

That’s exactly my problem did you end up figuring this out ? I’m trying to export it to roblox
idk, i have a different blender version (2.91.2) and it looks totally different lol

I can't remember for sure - probably an HDRI file of some sort?
oh my gosh thank youuuu
Thanks for watching!
the motion of the ocean
Great tutorial but you went super fast through the very end stages. Especially the camera part 👍🏾
Material could have been better can tou make a series on the node editor and material painting
Well it was supposed to be a quick material so you could see what the ocean was doing - you can definitely make a better water material
@@TheCGEssentials I loved the toutorial can you make a series on node editor for material making ..
make this for the 3.0 update
Thank you
Thanks for watching!
I wish there was an ocean generator that is similar to the auto landscape.
Interesting - that would be kind of fun
Thanks a lot
Happy to help!
I have been watching u Sketchup tutorial, which Great helpful for me. Now i am professional Sketchup designer . Keep on good video.

Can you send your Bonney model I mean the dog in your model I know you created it is so cute dog I want that model please please reply now!
Lol - nope - I don't share that one
Linear does not work

Glad it worked for you!
is 2.91 ?
It's a standard modifier, so I don't know why not
😆😆😆thank you
!WHAAATS! up guys?....
now make it loop
To fast.... 😔
why dont you put smooth shading, you monster
I'd pay for a addon to create breaking waves that would support integrating a surfer.
Hmmm...I wonder if Flip Fluids might be able to do this? I haven't had a chance to try it, but I know it has some cool features
you said fluidsimulation? that is wrong, it's a modifier (procedural).
Ummm...good work?
