Mega Man 2 - No Damage Run

- In this video, I beat the whole game of Mega Man 2 in one segment on difficult mode without getting hit.
I had already accomplished this feat for the first game some time last year (part 1 of that here: • Mega Man - No Damage R... ). For a while, I thought doing this for any other game in the series to be nearly impossible. In time, I learned a lot of tricks from a number of sources, and I eventually began to think that this might not only be possible, but actually not too hard. Sure, the fact that it has several more levels than the original makes a perfect run more of a pain, but overall there aren't too many worrisome parts. This still took me a while to achieve... maybe longer than it should have. I had 2 runs end on the capsule stage, with 1 going so far as the Wily Machine's second form. In the end, I eventually manage to achieve my goal of a perfect Mega Man 2 run. Yay!
If you're familiar with Mega Man 2, you might be wondering how I manage to get past 2 Air Mans, 2 Quick Mans, the Boobeam Trap, and Wily Machine 2 form 2 all in one go. For Air Man, Item 1 is a must. He has 2 tornado patterns that can be almost impossible to dodge. With proper use of Item 1, however, this threat can be significantly diminished. It's still harder than you might think. Interestingly, oftentimes when you touch the gate while riding Item 1 during the fight, you end up in a glitched Wily stage 2. Because of this, I use a different strategy for each fight. Quick Man can also be insanely cheap, but you can stop him in his tracks with a metal blade. If you lure him to either side, you can stop him and have just enough time to get another shot in with either the mega buster or crash bombs. With the Boobeam Trap I use the pause trick to dodge. While it's possible to avoid the shots without it, it's simply too hard to pull off consistently. I know this is cheap, so sorry. Also, one crash bomb has to be placed in such a way that it destroys both a barrier and one of the shooters. This is because having a crash bomb for Wily Machine 2's second form is essential. When he has multiple bouncing shots coming at you, they are simply impossible to dodge. A well placed crash bomb can hit him 3 times with a single explosion. Aim just below where he would normally get damaged while he's moving back and you're good.
With these and a few other tricks, along with careful and strategic play, I flawlessly conquer Mega Man 2.

@@57yearoldjamesbond Not hard for future games to be better when they only had like four months to make this game and it was while they were working on other games at the same time. It was a passion project and nothing more. The future games of course had longer development times and bigger budgets.

still is regarded as one of the best in the NES series. To this date, it stirs the debate as to which NES Mega Man game reigns supreme and it's always been between Mega Man 2 and Mega Man 3. No matter which game was your favorite, this one had a lot of fans and brought a lot of good memories to those gamers who were fortunate enough.

All those presses on screen causes flicker, and youtube cut the original 60 fps video to 30 fps so you can't see mega man at times.

I left a comment a year ago like "NO... DISLIKE" but I've changed my opinion. It was because of the method that you used against DWN.012, but I understand that you must beat him in that way if you are playing without saves.

Yeah, you have a point. Normally I can do those parts pretty easily without needing the time stopper. But every little bit help, I suppose. If you use it in the final section in Air Man's stage, the birds will just stay in place and block your path.

Its a holographic flying projector with weapon but the only thing that work is to use bubble man's weapon to short-circuit the projector.
He is not, it is a hologram. Mega man wiki says so.
This is much more valuable than a speedrun as there are fewer people who do this and this is harder, no need to even mention that you used no savestates. Do you use a turbo controller by the way, if not your shooting is very fast.

I'm doing this segmented right now and I can't even understand how someone could do this all in one go hahaha. Even after watching it and seeing the safety strats, I still don't think I could do it XD

My kinda player. Once they get the metal blade, you see Mega Man in Green and Yellow more than you do his classic colors. As it should be!
39:12 - Why are Air Man's projectiles going slow and just stopping? Seeing something like this makes me think that TAS was used as it's nearly impossible to beat Air Man without taking damage and you did it on two instances.
His projectiles stop if you're standing on item-1. And normally, yes, Air Man is nearly impossible to avoid damage if he offers one of two patterns, but with some practice and careful use of item-1 the threat is mitigated. He's still one of the trickiest aspects of the run.
Every other time Dr. Wily bowed his head in defeat, he was secretly plotting revenge.
In this case, he's too busy trying to figure out how he didn't hit Mega Man once using AN ENTIRE ARMY OF ROBOTS.
Why do you start with metal, and not flash? And why do you not use any of the zips in any of the levels?

@@TutorialPIU Gotcha. I have at times waited until just before those things have shot, and walked off the ledge. The bullets all missed me. With practice, I'm wondering if that can be done repeatedly until all the shooters are destroyed. It does get easier to dodge, with fewer and fewer bullets coming at you.

Instead of using metal man's ability, I found wood man's was more useful during Crashman's level with the spinning heads on the moving platform. Still... Way better job without getting damaged than me xD

The pausing exploit is absolutely not cheating. Pausing the game initiates Mega Man's teleportation. Since this is clearly an intended ability, then Mega Man should be allowed to dodge projectiles and keep himself safe by prolonging his teleportation for as long as necessary.
The only other thing I can think of that might make complaints of cheating legitimate would be if NotEntirelySure used a turbo controller. Turbo fire would constitute an unfair advantage, since it's not a standard gaming tool. After skimming the description, comments, etc., I was not able to determine whether a turbo controller was used.

Lol, no, you don't always do Air before Crash. First, this isn't a speed run. Second, item 3 is the crucial item in that level along with item 1. Third, you save Air for when you have the item 1 for a safe no damage chance.
