- Starting with her orange/red painted canvas, Jane shows how she gets started by sketching out her subject matter using a Liquitex Hookers Green Deep acrylic paint. Forms began to take shape and emerge as she layers and adds colors to create light and shadow. She does run into a snafu when painting the face of one of the chefs, and you get to watch along as she tries to correct it. You can visit Jane’s website, JaneSlivkaGallery.com, to find out where she is teaching workshops and showing her work at art festivals. Also at the “shop” section, Jane lists her basic, standard paint colors and the brushes she likes to use. There are also ten classes available for purchase at $25 each. The class is downloaded to your email, and you can watch this hour-long tutorial at your pace and replay sections for reviewing techniques, etc. The most important thing, though, is to relax, have fun and enjoy the painting process.
Just fantastic Jane! The reason I love your style so much is because you only use your brush for sketching, never a pencil. I do not like to use a pencil to sketch either, and though I’m not nearly as talented as you, I do paint with confidence and I feel that the art truly comes from my hand. Thank you for sharing your talent and beautiful art with us! Would love to come to one of your classes someday!
Thank you for watching, commenting and your feedback. It would be great to see you at one of my workshops.

Excellent work, Jane! I've done a couple chef's paintings as well, but you're teaching me to be more 'painterly'! I, too was in the restaurant biz & owned a bar & grill...Love it!

Great! i look forward to meeting you, too.
I love your style and these tutorials! They are really helpful in showing how to paint looser. Would love to see the finished chefs painting in this tutorial to see how you resolved it. Maybe it will appear in a future video so we can see it. Many thanks for these tutorials!
Thank you for your feedback and for your suggestion. Appreciated!
❤
Thanks!
I really enjoyed watching how you attempted (successfully) to modify the changes to the figure in the middle. Very similar to my problem spots while painting. It was nice to watch you think it through. Loved this demo. You are both a great team!
Glad you enjoyed it, and thank you for commenting.
As usual this is fabulous! I admire your confidence! Wish I had that!
Why thank you! Just keep exploring with your painting process and the confidence will come.

JESUS LOVES YOU ALL!❤
Thank you, and thank you for letting me know.
Why don’t you release the plein air painting with a voice over? Love your work ❤
That is a great idea, but we deleted them. Darn.
Awesome painting, Jane! Maybe add a black beard to that middle chef. :D
Thank you, and thank you for your suggestion.
They are called Handywipez
Yes! Thank you.
Love your paintings! Are you using a reference photo? Or just imagining the scene as you paint?
Usually I start with a reference photo, and then i put it away and improvise.
I love the painting that snuck in at 24:28 with the blue vase and lemons! Do you make prints of your art? Cheers!
Thanks, but I don't make prints of my art.
Hi Jane, love your work. Is there a video to buy for the Chefs in the Kitchen? I didn’t see one.
Unfortunately not yet.
I would love to know where you found the reference photo for this fabulous painting!❤
A friend of mine was going to culinary school, and he sent me a photo of him with two of his friends which inspired the painting.
Please tell me what the dark paint consist of..I know it’s not black…maybe Hooker green and red? I am thrilled learning how to be loose! Victoria Portland, Ore
I use hookers green deep and mix it with aliziran red or with titanium white or with cadmium yellow medium.
I painted this one and I would love to show you my art
Send it to my email at janeslivka@gmail.com.
Sure thanks
Are you using a reference?
A friend of mine was attending culinary school, and he sent me a personal photo of him with two of his friends cooking. It was the inspiration.
Halloween chefs?
That is certainly a direction to take it.
oh my god, my chefs have mutated when they paint, they have taken on a different movement. Somehow my picture looks quite out of place, but funny.
Oh my goodness. It sounds like you are having fun in spite of the chef mutation.
Hello Jane, what happened between 24;25 and 24:30 ?!? The chefs arms ? Chef 2 standing closer to chef 1 !!! What happened ???
I just reviewed the tutorial, and we had stopped the video to let it dry. Because I was so frustrated with the faces, I did some work on it after it dried and did not vieotape it. I tried to explain some of the changes, but failed to mention the ones you mentioned. My apologies!
