Why didn't you take the window out, and use a spinner ?
Maybe because you're on day work, and have to justify your money.
If you say so 🧱👍🏽
I really like the small bricks you had to include. It adds character. Great video 👍
Thanks pal 😁🧱👍🏽
What a finish btw, a great watch 👍🏻
Was it a 3-1 mix you used for this job?
Cheers. Never 3 to 1 that is too strong 🧱👍🏽
Even though you had to make a small part of a brick to be able to do the job it still looked very neat and you kept your standards up Steve and Alex.
Thanks John 🧱👍🏽
Hi Steve & Alex. Just watch all your videos from start. Bought back a lot of good memories working with my dad. I came across your channel and then got hooked. I am painter and decorator so not sure why but just kept watching. I am off sick at the moment so watching you two has been keeping me busy. Watching Alex grow from the start to now is all down to you Steve. You should be very proud. Just going to start watching A&E after seeing you work with them. Thanks Steve & Alex keep the videos coming looking forward to the next one. 👍
Thanks very much John , yes we are very proud of him 😍😍.
You will enjoy A & E , it’s a fantastic channel 🧱👍🏼👌🏼
A really neat and well thought out job.
The quarter bricks look absolutely fine.
It's how you solve problems that count, not having "bricks made" and "dividing by three" etc.
Brilliant job and if I lived there, I'd be as chuffed as little mint balls with that.
"Well done, Steve and Alex."
Thanks pal , 🤙🏾🤙🏾🧱👍🏽
Top work and thanks for taking us along take care
🧱👍🏽
Brilliant skills, lovely finished brick work. Well done you pair. Peace be unto you.
Thanks Martin 🧱👍🏽😁
Quality work as always. Steve and Alex
Thanks Ashley 🧱👍🏽
Great job as always lads like you said made good what you had Steve great job 👍👍
Cheers Dave 🧱👍🏽
Quality work as always boys, well done.
Cheers Dave 🧱👍🏽
Lovely job. Good to see a few quarter bats appearing. I always loved matching up jobs we had over 50 years ago. English, Flemish, EGarden wall and quite rare in the UK, Long bond, an american stretcher bond with double width joints. Even diaper work on occasion. Another old finish was lime coarse grit mix mortar requiring a rubber to point up to give beautiful flush pointing usually with hand made bricks. My favourite was working with Tudor thin bricks which I have internally in my house. Shame that cost and the rise of Lego industrial type housing stock has made stretcher the bond of choice. Keep up the good work, quality professional brickwork is so lacking in some builds I see, that it is embarrassing.
Sounds cool 🤙🏽🤙🏽🧱👍🏼
Armeg and Dewalt do SDS brick removal chisels. They're like a blunt scutch. They work brilliantly if you pre-drill the mortar like you do. Not so good on tight beds and perps. Try one definitely fewer snapped stretchers if you do.
Thanks pal 🧱👍🏽
Nice looking closure even with the odd bricks. You two always do the very best possible given the situation!
Does your mix include lime?
Thanks very much pal . No just sand and cement with a dash of concentrated plasticiser 👌🏼🧱👍🏽
Turned out fantastic!
Cheers Randy 🧱👍🏽
Lovely job lads.
🤜🏽🤛🏽🧱👍🏽
Lovely neat job well done.👍👍👍😎😎😎☕️☕️☕️
Cheers Richard 🧱👍🏽
it would be impossible to bond that with the state of the original no matter how much polishing , thing is unless your in the building trade/bricklayer most people wouldnt question it , bonus being down the alley way good job as usual boys
We second that Jack 🧱👍🏽
Another great video, thanks
Cheers John 🧱👍🏽
you should start taking deposits then people would not cancel except in emergencies and the brick work where a window was looks great but look at the work by the people who put that window in they should be sacked, if only all brickie's could do the work you two do, and you managed to get the same bricks and the sirens going past they will not sell much ice cream going that fast LOL thanks for the video.
Cheers Eddie 😁🧱👍🏼
Pleasure to watch you work as a father son team
Thanks pal I love working with Alex 😁😁🧱👍🏽
Nice neat job!
Thanks Alasdair 🧱👍🏽
Top job lad's.
That's an perfect example of how you make a silk purse out of a total pig's ear !.
The original brick work on those houses are absolutely terrible S&A.
Looks like brick work done on the "Lump" to me.
The patch up mess below that boiler, is equal to the original standard - Total crap !.
Not nice at all 😬🧱🧱👍🏽
yep no matter how much icing you put on a turd it wont make it a cake.
😆😆🧱👍🏽
Hope ya both well SA👍
Great thanks Dave 🧱👍🏽
Smiley bricks.... fxxxxxx nightmare!!
We’ve had worse on our last job 😱😱🧱👍🏽
Nice little job lads. Even with the 1/4 cuts you made, it look nice & tidy. Job well done. 👍
Thanks Pal 🧱👍🏽🙏🏽
beaut bricklaying and pointing
Cheers buddy 🤙🏾🤙🏾🧱👍🏽
Crikey... that original brickwork! Who ever did that was clearly on Day Release............ from 'the special school'. 😯
Sad to say but the rest of that's houses brickwork is not a patch on your patching in. Great job as always 💪.
Thanks pal yeah next doors was even worse 😵💫😵💫🧱👍🏽
@@SteveAndAlexBuild Bejezus... how do these cowboys get away with it? Quite shocking.
But anyway... thanks for videos. Truly amazing what you do tbh and thanks for taking up your time to show & share with us. Respect 👊
@@Sparks1Plumbers0 . Cheers buddy much appreciated 🧱👍🏽
Thanks pal 🤙🏾🤙🏾🧱👍🏽
Look at you with the gator boards RUclips must be paying 🤑🤣🤣
Ah , well …. Tony gave us 2 at the end of building careers live when we were packing up 😌😏👍🏽🧱
So true about polishing a 💩
🤢🤢😆😆🧱👍🏽
Just as a matter of interest. Rumor has it that when spaghetti junction was built near/in Birmingham a few building inspectors which found certain things wrong (weak concrete mix) went missing when the posts were being poured.
🤨🧱👍🏽
how was that original work passed
It doesn't need to passed as its never checked 😥🧱👍🏽
When Ever im Toothing out i use a Sthil saw to cut the halfs out its a lot quicker and easier
And messier down a tight alley . We have one but it wasn’t possible on this occasion 😬🧱👍🏽
Great video guys.
Where you off to Alex...
Thanks Woody. He went to Sweden to his girlfriends for a fortnight 🧱👍🏼
Excelente trabajo 👊 💯 🧱💪👏
Thanks very much 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🧱👍🏽
Hi lads hope your well .
I know you probably already know this but would it have not been easier to of taken the window out first then have blocked up the window inside so the dust can’t get in then been able to get the grinder on them half’s ?
Just looked a Ball ache doing it that way 🤣!
Top job tho as always lads even with that bond against you !
👍👍💪
Cheers Tom yeah definitely but Al would of had nothing to do 😆🧱👍🏽
We need inspectors to inspect the building inspectors. Good job of making a crap original job better.
Thanks Pal , very true 🧱👍🏽
Question...
Could you have measured the opening, divided by 3, subtracted the grout/motor line widths and have 3 bricks of equal size ?
No criticism intended.
Love the videos !!!!
There are a few ways it can be done but none will look good unfortunately 😬🧱👍🏽
not unless you get them specially made

Actually a Mythbusters episode proved you can polish a turd and make it shine 😂
This looked absolutely fine even with the closure in it 👍🏼

how come they wanted the window taken out guys?
No idea mate , we didn’t ask 😬🧱👍🏽
@@SteveAndAlexBuild ahh ok..just lost a bit of natural light i was thinking..but hey ho..not my house
@@redzed40 😆. I’m guessing it’s going to be an extra cupboard 🧱👍🏽
It seems you lost a few stones. You got too many steels done.
😁😁🧱👍🏽
Wheres the best place online to source random size bricks? I need to make a repair to the house and unable to find 3 of the size I need. Travis perkins wants to ship me a pallet and no where can I find that ships a few units online.
230x110x76
Your local reclamation yard is your best bet 🧱👍🏽
or use resin and brick dust to add a slither to a full brick.
but by the sound of the sizes there old imperials. so reclamation yard pal
@@martingaynor5017 Not any around me I can find. Its getting painted once fixed but don't fancy thick mortar joints. I'm probs off a few mm with my sizes.
I think i would have cut all the bricks down, so 4 shortened, all same lenght, rather than 3 full plus a small bit. ???
Each to their own , I personally think 4 three quarters would have looked way worse 🤨🧱👍🏽
@@martin2466 So very true Martin 🙄😆🧱👍🏽
The original brickwork on thise houses is shockingly bad .How does that pass any inspection. Anyway you lads at least layed some nice brickwork 👍🧱🧱
It was bloody horrible Justin , not right 😔🧱👍🏽
How many times have we all seen shit like that its bad but they get away with it time and time again .The agent must of loved his chair in the office on that site Steve 👍
@@brickrightbuildinglandscaping Should see ours and Sarah’s our daughters house , it’s worse than this 😡😡🧱👍🏽
@@SteveAndAlexBuild
Its not on they dont want tidy bricklayers just idiots to smash up to make more money.
I bought a brand new house once and i made em knock it down from joist to dpc was an inch out of plumb .They tried saying it was ok until i told em i was a bricklayer then i one that argument.
It wrong set all the wrong standards in our trade mate doesn't it 👊👊👍🧱🧱
@@brickrightbuildinglandscaping Very true , get em up don’t worry about the quality 😔😔🧱👍🏼
25th July…. So why are your videos posted so far behind the actual date…is it the time it takes you to edit and upload them, and keeping up with the day job…or…???
Spot on Stu , many hours go into getting the videos up onto RUclips 😬🧱👍🏽
SLO MO ☄️💥
😁😉🧱👍🏽
Shockingly bad, extra mortar creating damp bridge. Only saving grace sheltered wall between adjacent property. That's why I insist on cavity insulation fitted as the walls get built
Yeah but this is just one of many windows 😬🧱👍🏽
16:39 instead of putting in 3 full and a quarter brick in could you have done 4 3/4 bricks in?
Absolutely not ! 😳🧱👍🏽
@@SteveAndAlexBuild Why? Just the extra work cutting bricks?
@@charlieshwan5574 the bricks match the length of the other bricks in the wall as a whole. If you were to "shorten" the stretch of all the bricks in a window closure simply to make them all equal length , it would stand out and look like a Kludge, That one short brick in every course would be less noticeable. You are also matching the stretcher lengths of the bonds both above and below the window.
@@charlieshwan5574 . No it would look even worse 🧱👍🏽
why.
terrible idea.
the lads have done a cracking job.
you have to work with what's there
Sorry boys your brickwork doesn’t match the rest very well …….. it’s the only decent bit on the whole house 😂
If you wanted it to match you should have done it blindfolded….. no wait it would still look better!!! 👍
🤣🤣😎. Cheers Iain 🧱👍🏽
How old was the build of the house don’t look that old 😳
15 maybe 20 years old. 😬🧱👍🏽
Which one is Steve and which one is Alex. You can polish a turd but you cant make a silk purse from a does ear
