Absolute quality job. Being a tradesman often means doing the right thing, that lintel would have come back to haunt you and spoilt all the good work you had already done. It would most certainly have been leaking by capillary action. Good explanation on how to support a wall Also a lovely clean job left, hard to criticise any of your work. From one tradesman to another its a pleasure to watch you work.

Great job with well explained steps.I've got the same problem with a bay window, at least I understand what needs to be done now, thanks, fantastic channel.
Great video. I had been procrastinating over taking out a lintel over the fireplace and moving it up a few bricks but seeing this gave me confidence to get on with the job (which turned out great). I still used an acro anyway but unlikely I needed it.
Thanks for the video, really informative and great content, easily your best to date, you have improved your videos no end to really show off your knowledge and skills and should be proud. Keep up the good work and thanks for entertaining us all!
Great job save for the tray extension on the RHS. Water will track down behind that section as it's just tacked to the inner leaf with a nail and not chased in like it should be. No need for the sealing of the brick work now as repointed and the cavity trays corrected.
@@SteveAndAlexBuild Water should never run down the inner leaf assuming everything is installed correctly, which is an assumption we can never take. Water will track down the inner leaf if it ingresses at roof or eaves level, if it meets poorly installed wall ties, mortar snots or cavity wall insulation where poor pointing is present. Thats why cavity trays are chased into the inner leaf, to discharge moisture tracking down an inner leaf.
at 9:15 it says PACKERS STOP THE LINTEL SAGGING - but you put the packers under the lintel, so the plastic window is supporting the lintel if it sags????
nice house surgery there doctor Steve :) always interesting to see how the cavity looks yes ... the bricks come down indeed in that triangle theoretically in 45 degree angle so not too bad if that’s the worst case scenario 😄
Hi Dave and Alex, been enjoying your videos. For the work replacing the bricks above the lintel does this require building warrants? I need to replace a line of bricks above an old bay window that are sitting vertical. The lead flashing above the bay has been cut through the centre of the bricks instead of into the mortar gap. Replacement window companies saying they need a building warrant to replace but I'm not sure I believe them. I want to convert bay to flush straight across the gap window. Any advice would be appreciated
Hi guys just a wee thing I used to do was ask the householder if they were ok if I put a soldier course in instead of the running bond my reasoning was that I could fill the top of the soldier course brick easier as you were pushing in 3” of mortar every time making it a better fix, sometimes I would put an engineering brick soldier course in as you would know guys that they are impermeable to water getting through, now this was only if I had plenty of time to do the repairs otherwise it was the same way as you did it

I'm having this job done on fri. Just a quick question, below the steel lintel there seems to be a gap to the window, should this be filled with sealant?

What’s that wooden thing for at 10:50 ? To hold the plastic ? Wouldn’t a brick just hold it ?
