Bro said “an ugly version of a popular car” and that couldn’t be further from the truth. Long front end with the aggressive grill and short back end makes it an awesome looking car.
I disagree. Objectively it’s definitely nowhere near its Ford counterpart, the ugliness makes it cool. Just like how Ford trucks in the 70s were ugly but it made them cool, when Chevy made a far superior looking truck aesthetically
@@boss9mustang404 yes they were ugly, I’m not saying I hate them. I do like them but yes they objectively did not win any beauty pageants like chevy did. Hence why they’re worth half the square bodies are now. But that ugliness is a badass ugliness, just like a rat rod is ugly because it’s rusty and falling apart, still cool. But not aesthetic and that’s the point of them
@@joshpeck5842 I've never seen any 70s Ford truck as ugly, nor have I ever heard anyone say that they're ugly. 60s, sure, but definitely not 70s. Squarebodies are worth more simply because of media hype, when in reality they're absolute junk compared to the Ferds from a material and construction quality standpoint.
FYI: The front friction is smaller than the rear because the front shoe is "Self energizing" Meaning the rotation of the drum with the car going forwards will pull the loose end of the shoe (top) into the drum. The rear is opposite. It is not self energizing so needs more friction surface to help keep braking forces even. Some old trucks have the both shoes self energizing by having two pivots and the shoes pointing the same way. (old guy)
cougars have always been one of my favorite cars especially the 1967 been looking for one for years . a lot of car show never show case this car , I wish they would more
"MotorTrend is the ultimate streaming destination for gearheads" You mean the streaming service that went from free worldwide distribution to pay per view to USA only pay per view. Aint nothing ultimate about it.
oh yeah, Fry'brg is WAY wrong about it being an ugly version of a popular car. Its what the firebird is to the camaro :) I own a 67 mustang convert (my hurst shifter looks like the one they're banging) and would take an affordable cougar in a second. wouldn't need to be a Clevie, either. This was the generation that can swallow a big block or a stroker windor or if its a lightweight base model, a 289 with stiff gears and a T5 would be perfectly fine for me
Roadkill was great before with Mike and David, and we got to see on utube every month, Steve would've been a great addition, miss the old days of roadkill
Those days were great when Roadkill Garage was available on RUclips, it was my Favourite channel . I Recon if they stayed on RUclips they would of made more money through merchandise and Patrions than creating an entire new streaming service that's not available in most countries 😒
When the drives haft hit the pavement and was spinning around ..it sounded like the drum solo at the beginning of VanHalen's song " Hot for teacher " Ha
This is like the spitting image of my own 1967 Cougar purchased in 1995, that was originally Lime Frost Green covered over with Candy Apple Red paint that was poorly sprayed on! The vinyl top was only left over on the pillars so I stripped it all off and sprayed the roof matte black. Then eventually painted the car a dark blue metallic.
I was glad to see that you put new wheels and tires on the Cougar. the before camera shots showed a that the wheels were warped. the amount of headliner blowing in the wind was impressive also. you could of avoided the broken u-joint by installing some traction masters (tm) on the rear end. I started drag racing in 1963 so I think that I picked up a few tricks in all of those years.
Used to have 67 cougar back n the 70's, with a punched out 302 and two 4 barrels. Yeah I broke my driveshaft first day out too, and fried an aftermarket clutch in a few days. Had replacements custom made.. Next all the lugs sheared off one rear wheel.. Ohh the memories of being a 20yr old mechanic. And yeah a lot of mustang parts are interchangeable, but not all by any means.
Omg I love the 67 Cougar I'm probably the only one that would take one over a Mustang any day living in Ontario Canada the old cars didn't last that long. But if you guys ever want to get rid of her I'm your man. Great show keep thrashing away my son and I love the show too.
Those sure look like open chamber heads to me. Closed chamber the quench zone should be even with the head surface. Those heads, the quench zone looks recessed
If that's the high-compression Cleveland you have a gem there I would do a complete rebuild those engines are monsters they don't call him big block Killers for nothing. It should be a 4 bolt main block also
I always liked the cougar, I like the mustang too. I was offered a cougar with a 390 in it - and no it didn’t fit, but they did it anyway. I didn’t buy it because the rear quarter had been butchered off and the engine swap was super sketchy.
One of my favorite cars they are unattainable in price in the rust belt where I live. I love (ugly as you call them)60’s - 70’s fords Torino‘s are probably top pick .
Had the same identical motor in a 67 mustang. I got it from a buddy in my welding class in highschool. Traded a chevette for it. Never got the car on the road because it had a newspaper Bondo job on it. The motor made it to a 50s Ford pickup and is still running today. Dulcich gets a real serious look bang shifting. Any chance of selling this gem?
Dulcich is such a cool guy. Honestly he’s probably the chillest dude on tv
I know! I like the pairing of he and Frieburger.
I like how Steve tilts his head like a German Shepard when pullin gears
he have a demon on his eyes
That's some old school shift swagger right there.
Old school
I was thinking the same thing, reminded me of James Taylor in two lane blacktop.
Lol your German shepherd tilts it's head when rowing gears? That's impeccable

Even though I've already seen this episode....i'd be far more impressed if you'd fix the issues with getting motor trend on demand in Australia!!!
Do driveshafts rotate in the opposite direction in Australia? ie the Coriolis Effect
Never actually gave it much thought....hmm, in the interest of science, maybe you can come lie down on the road while I drive over you
Australia should be thankful they have no Freiburger
Right I was so pissed off. I also had paid for a full year
@@SolamenteVees no, but the reason you see us doing massive burnouts all the time is our gravity is only half what the northern hemisphere has.
I had a 1969 Cougar in 1981 for High school. Love those old Mercury’s.
Can’t believe motor trend has been pulled from the uk I’m absolutely gutted how can I watch all your stuff now ??
^^^^^^^
Same problem here :(
Torrents have you covered.

good to reminisce...a good episode and like Australia its a shame we cant have mototrend in the UK
Same here in New Zealand

Steve’s shift face is priceless!!
"Shift face". Love it.
Like an orgasmic beaver
These Cougar episodes are so cool. My first car was a 68 Cougar with a 289. So this is just sweet goodness for me.
Do you think it's worth rebuilding a 289? My grandpa has one and it's basically mine now and I'm thinking about getting it running. Also a 67 cougar.
Can't get this in the UK anymore. Sucks to be me
Love Steve's game face when he's giving it some!
First car was a Falcon. First car I bought was a 67 Cougar XR7.
When the drives haft hit the pavement and was spinning around ..it sounded like the drum solo at the beginning of VanHalen's song " Hot for teacher "

Awesome ! We're in good company. The Cougar rocks powered by Cleveland. Thanks for this edition MotorTrend Channel.

What a super beautiful car. Looks way better then mustangs!
I absolutely love those Mercury Cougars, would give my first born in trade for a 68 Cougar w/the 427 FE motor....
Dang ... you gotta love how Steve shifts!
The best part of the whole episode was Dulcich banging through the gears and beating it like it owed him money at the end.
Drove it like he stole it 👍
There is NEVER anything "Junk" about a 1967' Mercury Cougar guys !!!!! Lol : D
Idk those original brakes were junk

Man, that is an intense stare when Dulcich is banging gears!
How can you not love the old Cougar's?
Never liked Cougars until watching this episode. Awesome cruising shots.
This car is so beautiful even with the faded paint
I love an old school Cougar, oh no, the drive shaft! Now I have to go watch the whole video!
I was 12 when this car was brand new. I really loved the look of the blinkers and of course they were basically a mustang
I want my 67 and or 68 Cougar back that I used to own. Fun episode.
I love Steve's brand shiny new coat complete with tag on the sleeve 🤪
I had to take another look, and lol.
Ouch! So much work. I look forward to seeing what you do next with the Cougar.
LOVE This Car! I want to take it out for a drive~
man i'm falling in love with a cougar. how did this happen?
I think the cougar is a better looking cat than the pony. But beauty in the eye of the holder… great job guys
Sky's the limit when it comes to these Mercs!!
They built this car up really nice and a stick shift cougar is pretty rare to begin with as the vast majority were automatics😀
I LOVE COUGARS (the cars) you see so many in automatics though.. it’s all about the manual with the Windsor 351
That’s a much better looking car than a Mustang!
Absolutely one of my favorite shows to watch… 😎

I was at a car show in san Francisco two weeks ago,ten 67 mustangs and everyone looking at my 67 cougar thanks!

THAT SOUNDS GREAT!! DUMP THE 8".
While driving Cougar, Dulcich looks like he is doing some action movie take. :D

Those are open chamber - thats why I came to the comments - noticed it right away.
Dulcich looks absolutely possessed manhandling that Cougar

Big love for the Bang Shift Cougar..
A 4-speed cougar is a rare bird on the East Coast, Most went to the rust God's !
sad but true, sold a rust free 68 in 2007 it ended up in new york,
THANK YOU SO MUCH & I LEARNED SO MUCH!!!!

The Patina the cars get in the desert sun is so amazing, whish we had the same conditions here in germany, would also look cool on old mercs

The Cougar was a way better car than the Mustang. But the mustang got the fame.
The same thing happened to my 70 Mustang Coupe where the A-frame gave away
