Prosecutors began calling witnesses Monday in the penalty trial of Parkland school shooter Nikolas Cruz after delivering an opening statement. Cruz pleaded guilty to 17 counts of first-degree murder in October 2021 for the 2018 mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Florida. Jurors will decide if Cruz will get the death penalty or life in prison without parole.

Why is CC not available? I’m hard of hearing and i had to repeatedly rewind and hold the speaker to my ear and still missed things. anyone in the Deaf community with less hearing than me will miss too much to follow. Not just hearing people are interested, we want justice too. Please try to be more accessible to all users. Extremely disappointing 😑

The way she looks at Cruz at 5:23:17 - at least I think she's looking at him there - you can see the pain and anger in her eyes. Just smoldering anger and pain. She's probably thinking "how dare you put your head in your hands and put on this stupid act right now after all that you did". I feel for all of the survivors and families/friends of the victims. Just how some people cope with stress. It’s a way to dissociate from trauma. If you’re talking about the female student who video taped, she experienced a traumatic event that many of us hopefully will never experience. When asked if she video taped, she smiled uncomfortably, possibly bc she feels ashamed of video taping at all and didn’t understand why she decided to film. But once she was rewatching, there was pure unfiltered pain and grief.

I empathize for those families... I just wish David Hogg & any others effected would quit blaming the gun. A person can chop up food with a knife or run through the subway stabbing everyone in sight. We wouldn't blame the knife for the stabbings. Same thing with a gun, they can be used for hunting, recreation, & most importantly self defense, but they can also be used for evil by an evil person. The blame lays at the shooter's feet, not the inanimate object. The actions of a few should not affect everyone else who have never done anything wrong with their firearms. We need change the fact that many public places are "soft targets" where law-abiding citizens are not allowed to carry guns. If the shooter knew that maybe 1 in 3 of the teachers at that school were armed & he would probably be shot within 1 minute of opening fire, that might've deterred him from committing this act in the first place. Look at the shooting at the Indiana mall for example. Hopefully it gets the publicity it deserves & anyone considering a mass shooting is deterred knowing that citizens are increasingly willing & able to defend themselves because of constitutional carry laws being enacted & the Supreme Court Bruen decision.
