Cutting vintage shoes would be awesome. It's interesting to find out how technology in footwear has advanced & if the techniques to make shoes have really changed all that much in 30-40yrs
These were updated with the super cloud foam mid soles in 2015. Greatly increases the comfort. Adidas has many variations of these shoes. Some are all leather, heal tab, tongue, stripes and liner. Vintage, OG, even the 80's retro versions in my opinion are of higher quality construction then these you cut apart. Like your Dad, these shoes are my fav of all time.
I remember I bought a pair in 2013 it felt like the sole was made out of plywood , it was hard asf on my feet and not comfortable at all. I haven’t bought a another pair since
Yes! I bought my first in 2008 and I still have it believe it or not if the tread wouldnt broke under my ball bc the rubber got old and went into some hard plastic, it will be still perfect. It gave up around 4 years ago. So I used that for 10 years, a lot. But the new ones are much lighter too. One of my old one is kinda the same weight as a pair new one. And not to mention the new ,,leather'' which isnt half as durable as it was on the 2k. Now it is only 3-4 years max and have to buy a new one bc inner sole breaks around my heel and the sponge comes out even if I lace up and down everytime etcetc. Miss those old ones for sure!
Bought one pair 3 years ago and wear them occasionally and it looks like new after all those years without any maintenance. Its super comfortable and always trendy as well. Hands down one of my best sneaker purchases.
I bought my first pair of superstars the other day.. parents couldn't afford them when I was younger.. but being able to get my own pair was amazing!! Thanks for the video!!
I'm really dissapointed with gazzelles. The sole wore out in less than a year and the leather deformed quickly. For a similar amount superstars are much better
Szymon Siemko I have a pair of campus and no problem at all with them. The outsole is similar to superstar. The thing that turns me off gazelle is the sole.
A very comfortable shoe. These, the PUMA suedes, AF1s, the Reebok freestyles, Chucks, and Jordans are some of the most iconic sneakers ever made. Believe me, this newer version of the Superstar is more comfortable than the 70s or 80s version. I found those uncomfortable with no support for your feet.
I used to wear these back in the late 90s, early 2000s. These definitely look more padded than those ones used to feel. Keen to try a pair on now. These days I wear a lot of Onitsuka Mexico 66s, and more recently the 66SDs. Super comfy for everyday were and walking around.

Would definitely be interested to see you doing some comparisons between vintage and current examples of a particular model. Most shoes get subtle (sometimes not so subtle) tweaks over the years, so it'd be super cool to see different generations of the same shoe side-by-side. Keep up the great work man!
I bought a pair of these last year and I'm almost positive the midsole construction is completely different. I can feel the rubber cross hatch structure throughout the entire footbed. You never know what you're gonna get.
There are two "grades" of this model. When they produce some "special" releases, they're made a cut above in every respect, with leather interior. They're more like how they were made back in the '80s
@@jakejones6056 That all sounds about right. But I can pretty much guarantee they didn't have that blue foam midsole in the 80's. I only paid $40 for mine but the Adidas website said they were marked down from $80. They pulled a swoop and swap on me. Either way the shoes are trash and won't be worn again.

Yes I would like to see some vintage Superstars cut open. Heck even some from the early 90s just to compare. One pair from each decade to see the progression or regression of the shoe. Thanks for making quality videos.
0:51 My father bought me those shoes back in 75, he paid 20 dollars for them, my mom hit the roof, I still can hear her screaming you paid how much, I loved those shoes and I have been looking ever since to buy another pair, the best shoes I ever had, lasted years of constant abuse.
These were my beaters in college. I live in the tropics and my university was located along a major highway, so the paths were always pretty rocky or dusty, and during rainy season your shoes would get soaked. These held up so much better than Af1s because of the sole, goddamn.
Really liked this one, so happy you did this. you should try a running shoes. Take a cheap and a more expensive one. To see how it compares the foam on them
@Rose Anvil, The early 1980's did not have that blue foam inside. They had the cell structure like the Stan Smith shoe. I was back in the days when it was cool to actually wear out your shoes before buying a new pair.
I’ve actually been looking for answers from someone who knows adidas superstars. I bought what seems to be a superstar foundation in scarlet red, noticed that it has the blue foam inside. I skate them and they seem comfortable. However, when i went to a local retailer, I saw some superstars on shelf and peeked under the insole only to find out that it’s just hollowed out rubber and no foam. I’ve trashed my pair and I’m hoping to find another superstar with that blue foam. It helps with impact protection. Could you tell me which superstar model I should look for if I want that blue foam? And which to stay away from?
My faves! I searched your channel to find out why they are great. I'm in grandpa's age now and I had a pair in the late 70s. I played basketball in them and they were the best (but, of course, fell for all the advertising and tried everything). Then, they became river shoes, you river tubing and jumping off of cliffs, for years and years. I wear them today. I posted to say that the vintage shoes were better. They formed to your feet and the leather kinda grew with age. I could make a mile-long list of sneakers that I wore and only found 2 pairs that were the most comfortable, great for sports, and durable shoe. It is the Superstars and Reebok BB5600. Reebok made a vintage limited pair and I bought it quick! Thanks, for the breakdown.
I have a pair I've been wearing since 2011 with kind care BUT the bottoms have lost most of their grip so I'm retiring them for outdoor use....maybe river tubing! Thanks for suggesting. I just ordered a new pair after seeing these beautiful fresh white ones. Got for less than 60 which was good by today's prices imo. Hopefully they last me as long as these have. Hard to tear these shoes up with normal walking use. 👍
The midsole is no longer the blue chunk of foam for any version of them (as far as I can tell), but rather the cell style like the Stan Smiths. You might want to do an updated version review, such of the Superstar 82 model, and compare the old model to it.
I just bought a pair off of Amazon. With tax and shipping, yeah, they ran me about $85. For even extra cushion, I put some insoles in them, and they are super, super comfy! I love these classic sneakers! They take me back to my childhood of the 1970s. But in today's world, they have that hipster, old-school vibe. 😄
I recently got myself one of these and after the break in period this really is a super comfortable shoe. I didn't expect it to be as comfortable as it ended up being. It's obviously not as good for moving around a lot as a TR21 or an NMD or Ultraboost would be but it's still comfortable in its own right. Love it
I own pretty much every Adidas Flagship shoe there is from the prime x down and I rarely wear any of them. They are either too unstable if they're comfortable or they're just not enough cushion. Adding a doctor Scholl's work insole makes them practical to wear on daily basis.
Man, there's so many sneakers I'd like to see cut apart, even though I don't expect most of these. For running shoes, it might be fun to get a little bit of the history by cutting apart the Mexico '66 (since the New Balance Trackster is hard to find, and these are some of the earliest mass-produced running shoes), the Nike Cortez (which Bowerman created with the jogging for health movement), Nike Tailwind '79 (invented the Nike Air tech), New Balance 990, Adidas Ultraboost, Hoka One One Clifton, to some of the carbon-plate stuff today (pretty much all of 361 degrees, the Nike Next% and Alphafly, Adidas Adizero Pro, Hoka Carbon X, and the Saucony Endorphin pro -- and endorphin speed for the nylon plate). Then you have the three biggest natural foot running shoe companies: Altra, Topo Athletic, and Inov-8. I'd really like to see how the Metatarsal flex that Altra advertises compares to other shoes. You also have Newton shoes with their partial toe-plate designed for forefoot running (i.e. good running form). For Basketball, with Jordans, Chucks, and Superstars done, you need to get to the Puma Suede, Reebok Question, Reebok Shaqnois, and Converse Leathers, for a few more of those classic basketball silhouettes. Maybe add in some later cutaways of Jordans, the Reebok Answer, and a pair that people actually wear. For Misc, I'd love to see what make Uggs comfy, and a comparison between the "crossfit shoes" (Nike Metcon, Reebok Nano, and Nobull) could be a fun comparison. Nobull would be the best since they actually do have leather shoes, and I'd like to see how their quality stacks up.
Thank you, Weston! I've been thinking buying Vans, Converse or Superstar sneakers for next summer since my current Superstars have worn fully out from the counter in-lining. I rewatched today your Vans and Converse cut in half videos and with this video I'm maybe gonna buy another pair of Superstars. They are super comfy and have a great arch support.
my last skate shoes were a pair of Adidas Pro Models, which are pretty much the high top version of Superstars (except they're nubuck, not finished leather) I loved the shell toes, they lasted forever and so did the outsole. A lot of people still skate in Superstars and love them.
I've been wearing the same pair of Superstars for three years now and they still look great. After breaking them in they became very comfortable now it makes sense why. It was intriguing to see this and understand more about my everyday trainers.
Ciao Anvil, I think You have dissected a low price version, from the same model there are different quality, design and structure variations. Some have the original 70's design, leather lining, leather tongue, slimmer look - Some models have been made little stronger and chunky for skateboarding - Then you have some premium versions made with extra refine craftsmanship and on the other side there are, some really cheap ones... and also a "vegan" one using ecoleather... and prices vary a lot in some cases. Also the places where they are made vary according to quality. So I think you should chop them up all and run a series just on Superstars. Vintage will be so interesting too and not only for superstars. Thank for your "Shoe-chopping" videos i find so important. In my opinion your idea it's something that, from now on, should keep shoe makers incheck, on what they are doing and custumers more happy and more conscious understanding on what they are buyng.
This video is the reason why just today I bought my first pair of superstars, I recently had an Achilles tendon surgery and seeing this video learned what's inside of them and help me to buying. Thanks!!
The "Advantage Cloudfoam" version of adidas' white shoe (very similar looking to Stan Smiths) is my favorite budget shoe. The toe box is wide and the cushioning is...cloud like.
I wore a pair of stan smiths almost every day for 2 years doing detailing, they got pretty beat up, but doing 8-16 hour days they stayed comfy, breathable, and protected me from wash bay water. Overall I would say it's my favourite sneaker for everyday wear
The Superstars a mad comfortable. I always try to have a pair in my rotation and my brother has at least two. They are also quite durable. Overall for the price (if there is a cool promo you can get them for under 50$) they are awesome and it's good to hear that there is some quality to the leather on them. I just recently found the channel and I'm loving the videos.
My favorite gym shoe from my middle school era, I would look forward to walking home in them each Friday as a great way to start the weekend. I miss those days of the early 80's.
Wow, I did not expect that Supestars will be so much better construction-wise than Stan Smiths! Even though I'm a fan of the latter in terms of design. It would be great to see a classical model of New Balance (like 574 or from the 7xx line) cut in half :)
Oh, man, I’ve been hoping for a video like this for a while! I’d love to see more sneakers in general, especially Adidas, Vans, and Converse! I think it would be awesome to see an Ultraboost cut in half!
Would you consider cutting open an Alico Summit boot? They are a traditional Italian Norwegian welted boot that is sold on Sierra trading post. They typically only run for $170 which is insane considering the traditional way that they are made.
I’ve had a pair of these in my closet for over 30 years. That how lot I’ve been wearing them. I remember you could buy these for $40 bucks. They were 60 like 7-8 years ago. There a perfect go to shoe to wear for anything.
Nice to see or watch this video. My wife just bought a pair last week, made in Indonesia, worth about $110. This video gave her the assurance of the quality of this "iconic Adidas Superstar". Thank you.
In an ironic twist I’m wearing an early 2000s era vintage made in Germany Superstar right now-and they’re spectacular and growing better with every wear.
My mother is German, and she gave me a different pair quality ASICS when I was maybe 10 or 12 and I wore them until I grew too big. Excellent quality. They weren’t Stan’s but white with plastic modern looking ringlets (they stuck out, so not ringlets). Anyway dying to find a pair of these again, but I guess they weren’t a big success so they will probably never see the light of day... for context that means (help), maybe 1986.
@@jrock5830 Thanks for your response and for your interesting anecdote friend. I absolutely agree with a couple of your sentiments-the quality of the goods that used to be manufactured in “first world” countries be it Germany or Japan or the USA-and second that never ending desire to find the same items you loved when you were a kid-the ones with brilliant sentimental value. Blessings for safety and peace and happiness to you. Remember to drink lots of water. :)
I recently started watching your videos and I think this is a useful channel, specially the ones cutting open boots and shoes to see and explain what's inside. As a motorcyclist I think cutting open some motorcycling boots would make an interesting watch. Peace
It would be interesting to see you cut in half less known models from Adidas and Puma. Unlike the Stans and AF1s, it feels more likely to find some nice leather being used. And at cheaper or the same prices too.
I found them on sale one day a few years ago and i wear this model since then. They go with almost any clothes and they are the most comfortable sport shoes ever.
It would be interesting to see you compare to an early noughties pair of Superstar II. They had metal lace eyelets and in my view, considerably better quality materials. They were near indestructible!
...my memorable classic boots from the 70's were three pair of Browning's...one waterproof hunter's, one upland featherweight, and one pair of cowboy-style w/hypalon sole that are still sitting in my closet, in need of some TLC...
like the heritage adidas models, the superstar has a premium version (so does the gazelle, stan smith, campus etc). we would love to see a comparison of those classic versions vs the everyday wear ones (those)
Thanks for cutting them in half. I have always wondered.... I think i am on my tenth pair now. Very comfortable and durable. I especially like te durability of the toe-cap.
Yeah! I think it would be interesting to see Adidas Gazelle and Campus! And final video competing all 4 Adidas sneakers (including Stan Smith, that you’ve got a few months ago
I remember when I got my first pair of Adidas superstars, back when they were still made in France and had a suede leather insole. Unfortunately the inside liner around the back of the heel was vinyl back then and split pretty quickly. So while they no longer have the suede insole I don't miss the vinyl around the inside of the heel.
I love Superstars, own multiple pairs, and that foam insole isn’t actually in all of the modern versions. I’m not sure how they decide which pairs get them but I have at least two pairs, released in the last year, that don’t include it.
SO DOPE because this is the ONLY sneaker I wear. Last month I just copped the FX5537(I’m an artist) and the FX5526 (I’m a die hard Knicks fan). 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
I still have a pair of these in black from 2002. Like most things, they were better made back then than now. The leather is thicker, the shape of the shoe is different, they had arch support which made them way comfier than a new pair of these. Side to side, new ones look like a fake version. I returned the new pair I got. To me they're not worth what they cost.
I always liked these, couldn't afford them when I was in high school. I used to get the knock offs from K-Mart. I did finally buy 2 pair 3 years ago. I really like them, just as I thought I would
I would like to see you cut a pair of Reebok legacy lifter II in half. It would be interesting to see what a company puts into a shoe that is designed for people lifting over 1100lbs.
I bought a pair of superstars last year. They are a little different than these. They were leather lined on the inside, on the top of the insole and leather tongue. They didn’t have the foam you uncovered on these. Still comfy though
I like that they're stitched together rather than just glued. I had a pair of shell toe type Addidas that weren't the superstars and I left them in the car in the Texas sun and the WHOLE SOLE FELL OFF. Just went out and got a pair of superstars.
The newer superstars don't have that blue foam midsole in them anymore, which is a real bummer. It was really comfortable. Now they are more like the old superstars.

Nobull would be the best since they actually do have leather shoes, and I'd like to see how their quality stacks up.
those kicks are gorgeous anytime, even when cut in half
Thank you, Weston! I've been thinking buying Vans, Converse or Superstar sneakers for next summer since my current Superstars have worn fully out from the counter in-lining. I rewatched today your Vans and Converse cut in half videos and with this video I'm maybe gonna buy another pair of Superstars. They are super comfy and have a great arch support.
Try a Hoka Bondi 8! :-)
Arch support? Well that's disappointing, a no go for flat footers.
my last skate shoes were a pair of Adidas Pro Models, which are pretty much the high top version of Superstars (except they're nubuck, not finished leather) I loved the shell toes, they lasted forever and so did the outsole. A lot of people still skate in Superstars and love them.
Great video! Have you thought cutting Adidas Samba?
I've been wearing the same pair of Superstars for three years now and they still look great. After breaking them in they became very comfortable now it makes sense why. It was intriguing to see this and understand more about my everyday trainers.
5:40 IN THIS MOMENT BROKE MY HEART
In my opinion your idea it's something that, from now on, should keep shoe makers incheck, on what they are doing and custumers more happy and more conscious understanding on what they are buyng.
...Actually, a "Cut and Compare" series,( of various shoes and from different times) will be really, really interesting!.
I have a pair of shell caps I bought back in 99 or 2000. They are completely different then modern shell caps.
As someone incredibly new to this channel, even though I am not a sneakerhead myself, that cutting montage gave me a heart attack, really!
My favorite gym shoe from my middle school era, I would look forward to walking home in them each Friday as a great way to start the weekend. I miss those days of the early 80's.
I wonder about the “80’s” retro version. Great video man.
Wow, I did not expect that Supestars will be so much better construction-wise than Stan Smiths! Even though I'm a fan of the latter in terms of design.
It would be great to see a classical model of New Balance (like 574 or from the 7xx line) cut in half :)
I would cut my 574 in half for you but unfortunately, I'm not familiar with leather and shoes quality :D
Always intend your puns Weston!
Oh, man, I’ve been hoping for a video like this for a while! I’d love to see more sneakers in general, especially Adidas, Vans, and Converse! I think it would be awesome to see an Ultraboost cut in half!
I have had these on so many colors.. I recently decided I'm building a collection of them to wear with everything
The most iconic sneaker of all time. I just love them and now have over 150 different Pais of them in different color ways. Legend.
Can you do with a pair of adv’s next ?
Really keen on seeing how different their skateboard models are from their usual ones
Would you consider cutting open an Alico Summit boot? They are a traditional Italian Norwegian welted boot that is sold on Sierra trading post. They typically only run for $170 which is insane considering the traditional way that they are made.
I think Adidas takes out the comfy memory foam in their recently released Superstar. Hope you can do a video of that.
Thank you.
you did a dunk vs sb dunk it would be interesting to see an adidas classic vs their skate version. “ADV”
I'd be interested to see any of the New Balance models reviewed!
I own a pair exactly like this one and I gotta say I love em so much, my favorite sneakers from Adidas and then on second place are the sambas
You need to do the super star 80s for sure! The ones with premium leather and different shape.
I recently started watching your videos and I think this is a useful channel, specially the ones cutting open boots and shoes to see and explain what's inside. As a motorcyclist I think cutting open some motorcycling boots would make an interesting watch. Peace
Definitely want to see some vintage shoes cut. Especially those classic nike/reebok/adidas/etc.
Hoping for a reebok club c 85 or Adidas sambas
It would be interesting to see you cut in half less known models from Adidas and Puma. Unlike the Stans and AF1s, it feels more likely to find some nice leather being used. And at cheaper or the same prices too.
Super interested in a vintage version video, awesome upload as usual! Love the sneaker ones especially.
This is all you should do. Do this to every single sneaker you can find and your channel with explode with popularity.
Oh, could you do Puma Suede and Baskets as well if you're cutting up classic sneakers?
like the heritage adidas models, the superstar has a premium version (so does the gazelle, stan smith, campus etc). we would love to see a comparison of those classic versions vs the everyday wear ones (those)
Now I'm wondering how the Prada Superstars look like cut in half. Also seeing a vintage one cut up would be awesome as well!
I'm guessing most of the 600% markup would be for branding and licensing rights.
Thanks for cutting them in half. I have always wondered.... I think i am on my tenth pair now. Very comfortable and durable. I especially like te durability of the toe-cap.
Oh man I bought these a month ago and after watching this I’m delighted.
I have around 20K in Yeezy's & still rock an all white pair of shell toes new & clean throughout the year. My fav shoe as a teen ❤
My fav shoe but I like the pro model, I've got the white with black stripes & Adidas pro-model x 424 black with white stripes! FRESH & super comfy! 💯
I love Superstars, own multiple pairs, and that foam insole isn’t actually in all of the modern versions. I’m not sure how they decide which pairs get them but I have at least two pairs, released in the last year, that don’t include it.
I used to rock the Samba Classics in the 90’s
Ive had mine for 3 years and i still wear them all the time and theyre holding up great :)
SO DOPE because this is the ONLY sneaker I wear. Last month I just copped the FX5537(I’m an artist) and the FX5526 (I’m a die hard Knicks fan). 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
Great vid thanks. Yes cutting an old one would be interesting to see and compare.
Thanks for this cut vid. I was planning to buy Stan Smith, now I’m shifting to Superstar.
I'd love to see if there's a big difference between these and the $100 Vintage Superstars with a thin tongue. Also, leather Converse!
I had a pair of these in the early 2000's when they made a come back.
You should cut a Nike Cortez open, leather vs the nylon. And maybe compare it to the Reebok classic? they’re pretty similar classic shoes.
