Incoming med student, non-trad & really wanting a large family. Im so conflicted because Im not sure when the “best” time is in training & Im actively aware Im aging with each day that passes. Your video really helped calm my nerves and hesitancy going in to medicine. Ive been following you for years & always enjoy your content :) thank you Dr. Le!

I needed this a lot right now. My husband just started M3 year and he is super busy so far. I have been dying to start our family and have children, but he feels that its just not possible with his schedule, which means it wont be for at least another 5 years (he wants to do family medicine as well). I am older than he is and I am really scared that by the time he feels like he has time, that I wont be able to have children. Obviously I understand his worries as well and so we just have to work together to find the right time for both of us. It is very clear that you are a hard working professional AND a super mom, so it gives me hope that it can be done!

Many many more men grow their families in residency. Definitely conversation you would need to have. Wishing you all the best!

I heard 4th year is a good time to have children. 4 years can be hard on the fertility window. I think if you talk about how willing you are to be the primary caretaker in the next 4 years of his training he might see the benefit of starting earlier.

Thank you for this. I don’t know if you’re a Christian or not, but I’ve been very stressed about this topic lately (mainly because I see so many Christian women online tell young women that it is wrong for us to have a career at all. Or any specialty outside of our home and children). I know that Christ loves me and I love him 💯, but I don’t think he would have bestowed a gift upon me that increases my understanding of biology and science if he didn’t want me to utilize that gift. I just think it’s wrong that so many Christians are telling women this. I absolutely agree with your style of balance though! I do think your home and children should come first most definitely. When I become a doctor, I will work part time as well. I don’t think it’s wrong to pursue what you’ve always wanted to be since you were little. I was running around pretending to be a doctor at 3! Thank you for your channel, you have encouraged me you just don’t know how much ! God bless you ❤️

Thank you so much, I was starting to overthink and this video gave me a sense of peace. I’m a junior in high school ( in august a senior) and I want to be a cardiothoracic surgeon. I know that going into the medical field especially in such a demanding specialty it can be hard to balance work and life. Seeing you able to enjoy your life and work made me realize this is truly possible 😊❤

Not interested at all in starting a family, but I have so many burning passions I want to keep a part of my life and develop now that im no longer in school. Im happy to hear that my project is not only doable but has already been done by others❤

Thank you for sharing these videos. I love that you seem to have a great family life and also be a physician. Did you make a video about how you choose your family Medicine residency program? I am trying to figure out which programs to apply to and then how to evaluate them. If you have any tips, I think medical students would be interested. Thank you again ❤️

This is my really old video I made talking about choosing FM ruclips.net/video/YEDTm0hkAds/видео.html
It comes down to the people (residents & staff) that were most important to me. Do the residents get along? Is there commodore or are they all gunners? Is the program willing to provide training in things I'm interested in (in office procedure, GYN, OB, Derm, etc).
I should make an updated video soon.

@@drjennale Thank you Jenny for replying to me, it’s pretty rough to have all this inside. I’m so stressed my face is filled with acne nowadays because of the match my infant and the pressure of overthinking about how will I be a good mom in that kind of residency lifestyle. I’m reconsidering everyday so perplexed between my family and my passion. I hope my son doesn’t hate me for leaving him in daycare for long hours. I know this would happen in any type of residency but OB/gyn they say the worst so you can feel my pain😞

I'm still in undergrad, trying to decide if med school is a good choice for me. I'm 27 and have two kids already, and want to be present in their lives. I'm worried that starting so late will put us in a terrible financial position right before my kids would be starting college. I would want part time hours like you have. How much of a pay sacrifice do you make?
