    This is probably the first video I've come across that has really put things into perspective. It's this stigma that doctors don't have a life.. of course you know that, but you are living proof that anything is literally possible.
    I really needed to see this. I've had these hidden fears of growing old n lonely because of my career choice. Lol, Sounds crazy right? You guys are amazing! Continue to support one another and everything will be just fine. Very inspirational ❤

    • @drjennale

      They usually disclose on their website. But usually I like to ask if other residents have families or plan to start a family during their residency. You can tell based on answers which programs are supportive while other not so much.

    Hi Jenny! I’ve been a longtime viewer of your videos & I just wanted to say that you and your family truly inspire me that it is possible to achieve my dream of becoming a physician while still being a young mom. In your opinion, is it ideal to be pregnant and have a baby before medical school? I’m Pre-Med right now but I’m taking a break after I graduate to plan my wedding & then I will do a Post-Bacc program to further enhance my academic resume for med school apps. Thank you again! ❤️

    • @drjennale
      @drjennale  5 лет назад +1

      I think this depends if you have help or not. The first two years of medical school I would say is the hardest and determines what speciality you will go into based on your board score. Not saying that you can’t do well and be a mom, it is just harder for me to be away from my family that much. I personally have to study a lot more than other people to retain information.

    • @karolreyes2372
      @karolreyes2372 5 лет назад

      @@drjennale I will have a gap year (more like 6-7 months) before med school and plan on having a baby then. I do have a good support system. Do you think being pregnant for medschool interviews would reduce my chances? Or make life harder vs waiting longer? I am non-traditional student so slightly older than my peeps

    • @drjennale
      @drjennale  5 лет назад

      My personal view is that you should not have to wait to start a family while pursuing your career in medicine. You just have to show the interviewers that you are confident, you have the topic a lot of thought, and that you have a plan on how to raise the child while going through medical training.

    Congrats, I guess a question that I have had since previous videos is with two kids and a demanding career you guys are okay prioritizing the work and kids first, then you s/o based on the days you have off, and then other friends outside of work or are those friends not really kept in touch with? Also how do you maintain research too as a resident? My bad about all these questions.

    • @drjennale
      @drjennale  5 лет назад +2

      That’s a good question! We try to throw get togethers at our house so we can still see our friends at the same time the kids can still be comfortable. We also find that we’re making more friends who have kids because there’s an instant understanding and plus play dates! There’s obviously those friends who don’t have kids and would rather go out to bars/clubs and we just don’t see them as often.
      My residency requires us to do quality improvement projects and research in order to graduate. To be honest, I’m not super excited about research so I do the bare minimum lol.

  • @namelessnelly
    @namelessnelly 5 лет назад

    Congrats doc...quick question.
    Do you take the vitafusion gummy prenatals along with your iron containing prenatals - or just sticking to one?
    Also I noticed that the vitafusion prenatals does not have adequate amount of folic acid - is that ok?

    • @drjennale
      @drjennale  5 лет назад +1

      I would always check the vitamin has enough folic acid. That’s the whole point of taking a prenatal vitamin. The folic acid helps prevent neural tube defects. I switch back and forth between the gummy’s and the tablets with iron. Iron is better absorbed when you take it every other day anyways.

      No move any time soon. Still another 1.5 years until I finish residency. Plus we might stay in Washington to pay off school loans just because the tax is ridiculous in Cali. I’m 29!

    how do you deal with sleep deprivation?

    • @drjennale
      @drjennale  5 лет назад

      Coffee, naps, and making it for it on days off. You’d be surprised when your body is capable of. I was watching old “24 hour in a day” videos where Wyatt was younger and still waking up in the night to nurse ... I’m like shit! How the heck did I do that?! But at the time it didn’t seem so bad.

    Thanks for mentioning how the midwifery practice won’t take you until you’re ten weeks. From my understanding, OBGYNs will take you as soon as you think you’re pregnant or you have a positive home pregnancy test. This confirms OBGYN as a more perfect fit for me career wise. As a doula/premed student, the doppler is an excellent idea to have on hand in my doula bag. Congrats again you two!

    • @drjennale
      @drjennale  5 лет назад

      The midwifes were under the OBGYNs. So both didn’t take me until I was 10 weeks. The family medicine group took patients right when they had positive home pregnancy test but they were all my preceptors lol

    • @drjennale

      I believe this just depends on location specific facility policies.

    • @kelly1827
      @kelly1827 4 года назад

      None of the OBs in this area see pregnant patients before 10 weeks unless there is a specific issue.

    Did you say Vitamin B complex helps with nausea ?

    • @drjennale
      @drjennale  5 лет назад +1

      Yes. I’d take 50 mg of B 6 complex. Don’t take more than 200 mg a day. Foods like ginger have natural B6. I would also try to eat small frequent meals.

    Can't you just have a break till labor? In Poland when woman is pregnant she can have a break from job since the beginning of pregnancy ( even from 10 weeks till labor ). Are you going to work till labor and then have a month off with newborn? That's very shocking.

    • @drjennale

      Yes! America is very shocking. The extra month that I am choosing to to maternity leave will also be UNPAID!

      Most women in America work until they deliver the baby unless it is a high risk pregnancy.

      @@drjennale When I heard you say there's an optional 3 months off (depending on your residency program), I told my partner "Welp babe, looks like baby #2 won't be happening until residency" lol. I'm currently pregnant and in MS2. Thanks for sharing.

      Being pregnant during MS4 was the best!! I had all chill rotations and my school had a “new born elective” where I just took 6 weeks off. Just giving you ideas if you don’t want to wait till residency for baby #2 😉
