  • CSX Railroad Interchange With A 6 Locomotive Train Getting Permission To Enter The Main Line. Train With DPU. Train Comes Out Of A Tunnel With Huge Auto Racks. Norfolk Southern Train Easing Down A Steep Grade. These trains are in Kentucky. Covington, Kentucky & Crescent Springs are included.
I drove over a train on Interstate 275 while entering Kentucky from Ohio. I decided to film that train so I drove ahead to Covington at the CSX interchange. This area has a lot of crime recently so I left after filming the train going around the tight curve in front of a sober living facility.
Next train is coming out of a tunnel less than a mile south of the first train. After I filmed the first train I left and then heard the train give a clear signal at the junction that I had just been at. I heard the train on 160.230 and found out that it was on its way to Louisville, Kentucky from Cincinnati.
The tunnel is the same spot where I filmed the girl walking through down the middle of a track while a train was passing on the other track. Remember that epic video? After I filmed that train I drove to a nicer area in Northern Kentucky on the Norfolk Southern line.
The NS train is on its way to Gest street Yard in Cincinnati. We see it easing down the long grade that drops into the Ohio River Valley. Its really cool to watch trains working on this hill. I have seen trains stall coming up the hill and need assistance. Check out some of my Hill videos.
Filmed Thursday, January 19, 2023 Thanks for watching!

Good Morning JT. Yes please be careful out there. The world's a messd up place these days. Up here in Toronto Ontario, we've had many unprevoked attacks on people where the attacker never knew the victims. Two people unfortunately died as a result of this. One victim was a senior just out for a walk, the other was a homeless guy trying to protect his friend as about 7-8 young girls swarmed his and stabbed/beat him to death. Stay safe out there big guy. Cheers.

Where I was living, a large creek divided up the nice area where I was and the gang violence that was on the other side of that large creek. Got outta there in a short time. Now I am an hour and a half away from that concrete jungle.

We lived in Conway, PA and there is a large yard there. I noticed over thirty Norfolk Southern engines sitting in the yard. We loved to hear the trains moving through the yard and we loved to watch the railroad humping cars and build trains to go out all over the country. The yard is about thirty-five miles north of Pittsburgh and sixty miles south of Erie, PA. We have moved to Economy, PA but still enjoy our trips down to see the rail yard activity.💝

With today's bizarre crime please don't become a statistic. Just because it's a junction doesn't mean it has to be photographed I'm sure your family would like to see you return at night. That CSX Freight was one of those that probably had every type of chemical there is plus a wide variety of unusual reporting marks as well as a very high percentage of cars carrying carbon black. The auto rack train has one car with a home for repair tag on it. What's funny is even though the rack has the CN emblem the car through Creative Accounting is "owned" by Wisconsin Central and was built after the WC acquisition. Poor Chessie looked disappointed in that Norfie took the good seats and there weren't any snacks left. You need to hire the Hawaii Five-O staff for security

Hey there, Jawtooth! Love your videos. Greetings from over here in Germany!! We moved here back in the summer. My wife and I are from Virginia, but will be living over here for up to five years.
Germany has a lot of railroad activity - both freight & passenger. Their trains tend to be very short (1 engine and maybe 30 cars) and the run every few minutes on the same track - much different than CSX or Norfolk Southern, where the run very long trains every few hours. Their control system must be amazing so that they can keep things moving safely. Every locomotive I have seen is electric, but they must still use diesels in places without power lines over the tracks.
Keep Chessie and Norfie out of trouble and stay safe! Guten abend!!
P.S. My wife thinks I am totally nuts, but I have become addicted to your channel + that of a guy who is a tow truck driver who films it when he "yanks" cars that are illegally parked. Both of you have a talent for making relaxing yet compelling video footage.

Jawtooth, You are right, there are some sketchy people around the railroad tracks (Not speaking about rail fans, of course!) I live in a small town near Ft. Hood, TX on BNSF's Lampasas Subdivision and I started filming BNSF trains headed out of and to the Temple, TX yard (use to be the Santa Fe yard) last October to build up an inventory of train videos and thinking about starting a RUclips channel. Due to some lowlifes around the tracks, I carry 2 guns and a 7 1/2" hunting knife: A Ruger LCP in my boot, & a S&W M&P 9mm Shield in my belt. Both are loaded and ready. Don't know the situation in Ohio, but we have Constitutional Carry in Texas. You might want to think about arming up! I was over at the Temple yard this morning. Sure are a lot of BNSF Locos sitting and idle. Keep your head on a swivel and your eyes on the prize!

There is no more efficient way to move goods long distances than trains. Per ton of goods moved, trains pollute much less than trucks and notice how the newer locomotives (in the blue sky sun) don't even have visible exhaust. Put a WABTEC battery EPU on the train and efficiency goes up 15% with more safety on grades. Looking forward to some trains in the snow early February. Thinking Chessie, Brandy, Sophie and Norfie will be inside most of the time. Hope duck is OK. Hope the horses have a hay filled barn.

As a retired trucker, I mostly agree that rail is the most efficient way to move LOTS OF CARGO over great distances - on a per ton basis. However, tracks don't go to every single destination and in today's "just in time" society, people want their stuff and they want it NOW.
Trains won't likely ever replace trucks, but if time is of less concern than tonnage, there is nothing better than rail for moving freight.

    • @markwiener1091

No way will every interest like this. Just wondering -- if you're looking for any ideas or suggestions -- if you could somehow get some shots of that massive railroad bridge you mentioned that crosses the Ohio River between Cincy and Covington (Newport?). I spent some time working in Cincinnati in 2006-7 and used to go "Newport on the Levee" a lot for dinner and always marveled at that bridge (and the one upriver from it that was Roebling's practice exercise for the Brooklyn Bridge in New York). The only time I could see the RR bridge was while driving on the highway next to it - and I was always the one doing the driving!! I understand that the main building in that Newport complex was originally a railroad station. A pretty grandiose building in its heyday. Anyway, thanks for everything, stay safe --- and healthy!

Two 6 axels locomotives and two 4 axels locomotives=a double DPU. But a train riding with open boxcars or open tankcar is in Europa not done. Every freighttrain in Europa is controled by a carmaster in Dutch: wagenmeester.

You might want to go to the Queens gate yard and so maintenance the part of the train coming out of the tunnel. The way those auto racks are banging it might be BROKEN RAIL!! Hopefully I am wrong. It would be better than a derailment. Steven Sipes

Great catches especially where the CSX train was abt to enter the Queensgate Yard! That was a nice catch of the train coming out of the tunnel. Then to top it off at the RATHOLE line which is one of my favorite locations! It's sad how crime has escalated over the years. Almost seems like it's not safe to go anywhere nowadays. Thanks again for sharing some awesome footage with us! Cheers from Delmar, Delaware

@@JawTooth -- My dad grew up in Norwood, Ohio - basically a city landlocked by Cincinnati. He always said it was better to fly into the airport in Dayton and then drive south; rather than the Cincinnati airport that is actually in Covington, Kentucky. ( That's why its code is CVG - ya learn something every day. )
Stay safe out there, sir! Greetings and salutations from a Virginian who lives in Germany now!!

There aren't too many things on this Earth that get beat up and on more than a scrap metal gondola. They get old before their time then keep on rolling.
The whole 'gondola' on top of the tank is basically just a housing there to protect valves and ports on top from bumps and whatnot. If you looked down inside there that is what you would see.
Covington was a place you watched your rear even back in the 80s. I have a t-shirt.
About the video blurring I would suggest doing what I did to learn video editing. Just make a copy of some video and use it to play with. Do everything to it. Especially new things. Learn by doing is powerful with this. You don't have to use them all or any but it can be fun playing and learning anyway.
Don't worry too much about the sun when this happens. It can't be helped some times and that wouldn't have been a good train to miss.
JT, you are an ace among railroad fans and I thank you for taking us along. I never miss a chance.

I noticed 2 items of interest in your video. On the first train I noticed coal cars. They actually aren't coal cars. They'rearked HK which is Haines & Kibble house quarries here in southeastern Pa where i live. Those cars are actually used for hauling stone, not coal. Also on one of the auto racks in the second train, the clown drawing with the balloon is Pennywise from the movie "IT".By the way, always watch your back while filming videos.Never know what will happen or who is near you.

You are right,MrDan.I live in Reading,Pa and Birdsboro is outside of Reading.I have been at and around the quarry.Quite an operation they have there. They ship out at least 50 stone cars per shipment.I know because i've seen the shipments in Reading.

@@georgeoakley934 I don't know how long you have watched jaw tooth videos but I said to myself these cars look familiar. Under the street running section the Belpaire Industrial Parkersburg shortline the train is chock-full of those HKRX. Hoppers. I will say for cars hauling stone they're in much better shape then the ones on the Cincinnati Eastern
