The 2025 Mazda CX-70 Is A Sizable Electrified 2-Row SUV With A Bold & Edgy Vibe

  • When #Mazda introduced the flagship CX-90 exactly a year ago, the company promised that another vehicle on the same large RWD platform would eventually show up. For 2025, the #MazdaCX70 is that vehicle however we expected the #CX70 to be considerably shorter, the company decided to make this 2-row only SUV the exact same size as the #CX90. Thankfully, the exterior design is slightly different and for those of you who had your eye on the #MazdaCX90 but don't need the 3rd row, this model should give customers best-in-class 2nd row legroom and trunk space.

    Happy Tuesday everyone! We were in NYC last week filming these Canadian spec CX-70’s in the studio and the Mazda PR rep did confirm this car is the exact same size as the CX-90 on the outside! Do you think Mazda should have made it smaller? Or should they have just called it a CX-90 2-Row and not gone with the trouble of a new name? Thankfully, the CX-90 drives smaller than it actually is, so this car should follow that suit and give it one of the most spacious cabins in the segment since the CX-70 is about 5-10” longer than its other 2-row midsize rivals.

      I'm not sure if this is advanced sarcasm or utter stupidity.
      GM, Chrysler, and Ford have been badge engineering for decades.
      You don't think GM created FOUR versions of the SAME minivan multiple times, do you?
      The Plymouth Voyager, Dodge Caravan, and Chrysler T&C were all the same. You do know that, don't you?
      Dodge Caravan, VW Touran (which VW dealers couldn't work on because it was a Dodge.)
      Suzuki Equator/Nissan Frontier
      There are literally *hundreds* of examples of this happening.
      Wikipedia: List of badge-engineered vehicles

      @ayushmalpeddi2793 4 месяца назад +3

      @@tim3172 Not sure if you just woke up or if you are slow in general, but this is the two almost IDENTICAL models being sold under the SAME brand. Not two different brands. Furthermore ANY other automaker would just make a SPORT trim instead of an "all new" model for a two row version. Tesla doesn't make 2 different versions for the Model Y and X. They just let you choose how many seats you want. Mazda could have offered the same choices as well. Also they could have offered a "black-out package" on both 3 and 2 row models. One model that does it all.
      Badge engineering is different because its an almost identical vehicle sold under two DIFFERENT brands. This makes more sense because one company likely doesn't want to invest much R&D, therefore they copy and paste with minor changes to hopefully gain some market share. Its a low risk low reward situation.
      The CX70 and CX90 would have made much more sense if they made the CX-70 slightly more special. For starters, offer the high output 3.3T I6 as standard. Furthermore drop the suspensions. Lastly add some interesting things like drift mode and carbon fiber on the inside. Then I would understand the CX70 model slightly more. But the truth is, all the changes I listed above could easily be done with just added a "sport" trim to the CX-90 lineup.

However, I would have rather liked to see a shorter CX-90 instead of the same car with a third row delete. People make due with the added length of a third row with navigating traffic, parking, garage fittament, etc... because they need the third row. If your getting this becuase you DONT need the third row, then why hassle with the added size. I'm interested to see what a refreshed CX-5 would look like along with the updated PHEV power trains and electronics like the gauge cluster and larger touchscreen. The black car here looks pretty good but I'd like to see a what a polymetal grey and zircon sand metallic look like.

    It boxy, but that makes it very usable for storage and passenger space. The seat are nice if not a bit dull and could use a bit more quilting. I think Genesis does an excellent job on that and should be the example for others to follow.
    Anyway, the rear seat are roomy and captain's chairs would be nice. What I really like is the door open very wide (almost 90 degree) so load a child seat should be easy as long as the isofix points are easily accessible.
