There is also a pre-engineered mining laser you can get at the Torval Tech Broker in LTT 198 that has 400% more range and half the distro, thermal and power draw. It is pretty expensive as you need 16 Osmium per laser you want but its better then doing PP 1.0. Oh and BTW Seismic Launchers are C2 only. The T-8 is a perfect all round miner. C2 slot for Seismic, one abrasion blaster (which you need for core mining anyway) and 4 pre-engineered lasers (the distro can just handle all 4 at once with charge enhanced).
Subsurface missiles are very useful once you got used to it, especially if you don't do deep core mining. And what else you could possibly need? Well... charges to get to these cores?! That's the one thing that makes mining feel absolutely awesome and gives you lots of good stuff. Blowing up rocks is so very satisfying!
I'd be interested in how this works with the Torval mining lasers (the hidden gem of mining lasers). They are small mining lasers that are a bit more efficient and hit a bit harder.
Clearly an improvement on my Krait Mk2 mining build. I can get it full of something (way smaller cargo bay than this one has) in about 1/2 hour, but chasing something particular is another thing. The Krait is not particularly nimble so this I must to test. It all comes down to movement and how to handle the controllers.

I think you misunderstand the Torval lasers. They're low power and high damage, so they draw less power, don't empty the capacitor, so make the ship run cooler, not hotter. If you have access to them, there's no reason not to use them. The PP mining lances are useless. They have longer range, but you should be mining with your nose against the rock to reduce the collection time. If you mine from a distance, it takes forever to collect the fragments. Also, it's not worth it to mix types of mining. You should either go core mining or laser mining, not both. The power distributor is normally the thing that limits laser mining speed, so that should always be maxed out with weapons focused., then you make sure that you have enough limpets to keep up, and the rest cargo. Haz RES is where the money is. Never take weapons and never fight pirates. Learn how to deal with them.
I love the attempt, but this probably did all the cardinal sins for a miner hahah😝 To each their own right, but Id personally make a few changes: Move the limpets to smaller slots, you usually sacrifice fewer tonnes to get your limpets going. There's also too many limpets on this build, maybe 4 collectors at most are fine! Although if you go full laser you could probably make use of 6 limpets. Put the refinery in the class 2 slot for 6 bins, using a class 4 slot for just 4 tonnes extra of cargo is a bit silly in my experience Id definitely consider a shield and either a guardian FSD booster or a fuel scoop, just to make sure you dont need to dock for fuel Personal preference but: I usually do either one or the other type of mining. So Id go with as many lasers as my power distributor could fit. If I have space left over, I usually get another weapon

I think you hit the mark with that build. The idea to use a Universal Multi limpet controller was brilliant. Can't believe I didn't think of that myself. I also think that a shield is more or less mandatory when core mining. As long as one is careful around the spinning asteroids, it's pretty safe to go shieldless when surface mining. Just remember that things can go south really fast if one gets too close. Good build! 👍
i mean i brought the type 8 with the intention of just using it to haul things since it was rather cheap on the arx store haha also bare in my ive only played the game this week in total 4 days. However near enough everyone ive spoken to about the type 8 always try and push me towards using it as a mining vessel when i have no interest in mining currently. but yeah from what ive been told its a fantastic mining vessel. due to its manueverbility etc basic its selling points to begin with. but like with every ship as far as im aware all of them can be used for pretty much anything unless your focused on min maxing them. good video though very informative

I always like to have a little bit of offensive weaponry on my miners for the odd pirate encountered in the rings but this ship is not well suited for that. I guess if you are taking the no-shield gamble, then the no offensive weaponry isn't such a stretch.
change the big multi limpet controller with a cargo bay and replace the class 5 cargo bays for class 5a collector limpets. I think it's the same ammount of limpets and more cargo.
@@Bean41 wh yes, but there's no real use for 8 limpets if you only have 3 mini lasers and stuff for deepcore mining: you could get by with 1 limpet per small laser, or about 4 or 5 collectors in total since you do have deepcore gear with this build. Plus, the class 5 gives more limpets per tonne sacrificed: only 10.67 tonnes per limpet, instead of 16 tonnes per limpet in the class 7. The build has 5 too many limpets, which is costing 80 tonnes of cargo

Nice, though I'd have put two collectors controllers in the 5 slots and used the 7 for more cargo. Having too many collectors active just means they're idle longer unless you mine every rock you find. I'm very eagerly awaiting the t8. I bought the Python mk2 for arx, and while it's nice, I wish I'd waited for the t8 instead.
You say mining is boring... Try this, engineer a Keelie with G5 dirty drives, NO collectors, a shield (a must), siesmec launcher, 72 in cargo, 4A refinery and abrasion blaster. Scooping the bits is fun and challenging... Try it.
Another game balance frontier needs to consider is credits, I'm a multi-billionaire and there's nothing I cannot buy, That's where the problem comes in. I have only a few goals left which are engineering and faction unlock. I gained most of my wealth from mining and exobiology, I spent a lot of time in the black and have seen probably most variants of Flora this game has to offer.
@@Danko05 you should not be able to purchase A fleet carrier for 5 billion credits. The average aircraft carrier cost around $120 billion outfitted, 13 billion just for the base. Billions of credits in Elite dangerous is easily attained, credit should still be a driving force in the game along with engineering, gaining rank, powerplay etc. but overall I'm still having fun with the game because there's still plenty for me to do for the time being.

@@RicardosGaming I had a response almost complete on my phone to this last night when an advertisement scuttled it... don't you hate when that happens... Anyway, I got my new Type 8 yesterday and after a few engineering tweaks & improvements rigged it for mining and had a go. As promised here are my thoughts: Initially I don't find the Type 8 as good as my original Python by comparison. The smaller & more numerous Size 1 hardpoints, even with an extra one, are the major reason for this. The biggest factor in this size downgrade has to be the reduced ammunition capacity of subsurface displacement modules (SDM). Size 2 SDMs each carry 96 rounds of missiles. Size 1 only have 32. This can mean a massive loss of production when each subsurface zone potentially carries 6-8 tons of ore. I also feel that the smaller lasers free smaller fragments that also contributes to a decreased yield. So on my initial venture with 1 seismic, 2 lasers, 1 abrasion, and 2 subsurface tools I got a bit less tonnage overall than I'd expected. Since I am primarily a core and subsurface miner I plan another outing without any lasers at all, replacing them with two (2) additional subsurface tools. I'll let you know how that goes. I will say that maneuvering the Type 8 around the asteroids is a pleasure. Handling is actually better than the Python in my opinion, as is overall capacity. So if I can make the Type 8 work for me without lasers it well might be my final build. I've never found laser production to contribute a significant amount to my totals anyway, but that's more a function of my style than anything else. I honestly believe that anyone who can become proficient with subsurface mining will agree that it's much more productive method than surface stripping. We shall see how I fare with the extra subsurface tools and let you know.
Don't really need that much cargo space for mining unless you plan to be at it for hours and hours on end, and as you're not running a fuel scoop you won't ever be going that far from a fuel source/resupply point like a fleet carrier or starport. Honestly 128 is plenty of space probably, I find I never use that much space on my mining Clipper despite having it
Prospectors all do, that's what the description is referring to, the multi-limpet stats they show are the best from each type of limpet, you can look at class 5A stats of each type limpet for 7A multi-limpet stats.
There is not actually a size one seismic charge launcher, meaning you must fit it in the medium hardpoint slot or forego rock cracking capabilities.
With that jump range I'd dump the class 5 storage for a shield and fuel scoop.
Type 8 looks like it should be stationed on Arakis

One way to maintain the capacitor for lasers on a mining Cutter is to use a Guardian Hybrid Power Distributor.
