Type 6 and 7 should have always been designed for a pad size smaller than what they got. That would have fixed basically everything. It’s criminal they have the pad sizes they do. That said, I’d probably reduce the Type 8’s capacity in exchange for more speed and better laden jump range. That’d make it more interesting as a trader, while allowing the Type 7 to more realistically leverage its ideal cargo hauling shape.
@@sterlingroberts6240 Type 7 is basically obsolete now. The type 8 is what the 7 SHOULD have been, and now it no longer has a place which is sad. The type 6 should've been a small size ship, with the Keelback being the natural progression upwards, or hell even the type 7 if it was a medium as a pure trader ship rather than a miner/hauler combo if you wanna stay focused on pure hauling capacity. Whatever niche the Type 7 was supposed to fill, it is no longer fill-able unless they want to make the type 8 obsolete, or maybe relegated to a mining role as the Type 7 has... less than stellar weapon slots. I'm not sure if FDEV have ever done something like this, but something desperately needs to happen for a few ships. The Dropship, the Hauler, and the Type 7.
Speaking as a long time treader and hauler the game has been screaming out for the type 8 for many years, the python was the go to medium hauler but multi role ships never quite make the grade like specilised ships.
@@DavidUtau I have. The only way to prevent overheating is to engineer the power plant for low emissions with thermal spread, but that sucks away a large chunk of power.
@@eckee flying too close why fuel scooping I guess but imo that's a skill issue although, there is one more way: some planets are so close to a star, that starting from them or landing on them makes you overheat purely from being too close
Cool ship. Use it for the rare occasions where I need a medium trade ship vs my T9. I reckon it may be more relevant in PP 2.0. I let go of my T7 and Keelback due to the T8. It's also good for Robigo Passenger loops.
I could never let go of my Keelback even if I use it for CZs and Resource sites with a guardian fighter onboard and engineered PAs, instead of trading.
In addition to everything mentioned in this video, I can honestly say the Type 8 is giving my Krait Phantom a run for its money when it comes to picking a daily driver. I can pretty much do every single gameplay type (except AX) with my current T-8 build while being able to carry more cargo than ever in a medium frame that doesn't look as totally boring as the Python. And it's actually fun to fly with some G5 Dirty drags while looking for Core asteroids. It's also very sturdy when thoroughly engineered. I haven't gotten around to trying it again since the latest update to check if they really fixed the SRV issue. The Phantom is still the prettier of the two though, especially with the T-8s grossly modelled heat vents on those forks right in front of your eyes.
It's okay for a ship to become obsolete every now and then, it adds a bit of realism. Although that's easy to say if it's not one of _your_ favorites getting obsoleted. Still, the correct response for this I think is to find a way to modify the Type 7 to give it a niche of its own. Perhaps an in-universe upgrade package you can buy that modifies it into having a better combination of module options to keep it competitive in some way. Perhaps tougher hull to make it more of an armored car in space, or a potentially higher cargo capacity than the Type 8 (say due to a new engine mod that allows for smaller engine module that delivers the same thrust, so you can make an optional bay a size bigger for more cargo or something). Maybe add weapon hardpoints so it can be tougher than the Type 8, do something! My Type 9 can't survive without me being able to throw a fighter at an interdicting pirate to distract him so I can run away (well, waddle away, it is a Type 9). Maybe allow a one-time modification (paid for by Lakon perhaps?) that you can now put a fighter bay on the Type 7? After all the dinky Keelback can do that.
T8 is my new favorite cargo ship. I love how well it handles so well even with full cargo. Slipping through system with SCO smooth ride! It look great and have solid industrial look too. I painted mine blue.
I struggle with it having so much negative space for a cargo ship. The T7 was/is great for station rescue missions with its maneuverability for its size.
Ive not had a dedicated mining vessel because none of the ships seemed to check all the boxes. Was considering converting my AspX for it before i heard this one was coming. This one seems to check all the dedicated mining boxes, and looks like a miner to boot.
Such a great ship, such a shame it doesnt have access to a fighter bay though... Maybe theyll make a fighting variant of the type 8 in the future, just like they did with the keelback and the type 10!
It's all about the Journey? Don't stop believin'. I look forward to trying it out 7 Nov. You know what that means. That's right. We can set fire to all those Type 7s on 5 Nov. Take care, lah.
I wish they would’ve made this as a fighter as it makes no sense visually as a cargo vessel. Will be interested to see how many credits it is though and try out trade for a change
Give the type 7 a size 2 weapon slot or an extra size 6 optional and a big ol gas tank to be a long hauler. The T7 gets better jump range under load than the t8 already. Just make it a dedicated long hauler
Me: "it could not possibly beat Python"
Type 8: 480 Max cargo
Spits coffee out
Now please FDev give us Type 5 for small pads.

I've had it since the 28th November, it's completely replaced my Python medium trader.
Lakon seems to have fixed the landing gear problem.

The T7 would make a decent exploration vessel if they would just DO SOMETHING about its lousy heat dissipation. The Beluga has the same problem.

It's a real shame that those forward arms don't fill up with cargo racks as you equip cargo or something.

Lol, subbed. It's nice to know there's another out there that has a grudge against the type 7

Turn the booms into class 4 weapon mounts, put beam lasers in 'em, get your Macross Cannon on.

I like my Type 8. If I ever feel the need to really push my luck I just go looking for a fight in the rings with it.
Tried to use this for piracy… difficult. But a decently armed smuggler, it was excellent.

T8- take one of those large cargo crane cabins and chuck some engines to it and voila
Sadly i havn't found a single use for the Type-8. Because at this point i already have custom build ships for any and every purpose.
