    I love that Todd uses all of the drums and percussion instruments on a regular basis. Nothing he has is just for show. This guy means business. For Styx, I think it is the drums that really make this band a heavier rock band than with a more conservative drummer. I get that he is filling John’s old shoes. I do think that Todd not only filled them shoes, but also upgraded them to a serious pair of boots, of the ars kicking kind. Todd pays a very respectful tribute to John, and then goes on to making the job impossible to fill if ever there were a time when Todd considered leaving. Todd , you’ve gotten my vote, since the very first note. Thanks man.

    As a musician myself, guitar player and ex drummer, you get to that point where whatever comes to your head is automatically transferred to your body. And that is when music becomes fun.I see that in your playing. p.s. Your drumming is fantastic.

      I could not agree more. And sometimes the cymbals sound like fine China breaking and tinkling. What a fabulous sound where you are sitting Todd. The snare, like you said Bob dudeface, is some powerful crack.

    Styx has been lifted from the Ash's, it's amazing that I only discovered Todd, last year and that he's been playing w/them for about 8yrs or so. I love his interpretation's of these classic songs from such a powerful band.

    At 1:06 - I love how he switches from matched grip to traditional grip like it's second-nature!
    Wow! I love watching this guy!!

    • @rthinds
      @rthinds 2 года назад +1

      For you non-drummers - his left hand is OVER the drumstick prior, then it's suddenly under. That's the difference.
      The grips determine the motion between a forearm motion, and a wrist motion. At about 1:27, notice his right forearm is moving, but only his left wrist is moving (not his left forearm), yet they are creating the same percussion. He's simply "flicking" his left wrist, but striking with his right forearm, yet they are totally in time.
      Notice all the power strikes come from his right hand...
      THAT is literally the art of this!

    • @rthinds
      @rthinds Год назад +1

      Then he switches back to matched grip at 2:13 for all the power strokes.
      What a master!

    • @TheWitchOvAgnesi

      FWIW he stated in another video that he doesn't want the other musicians up too much in case they feel they didn't have a strong performance on that particular part of the song (I know... like there would be any concern with Styx). So it's a matter of him respecting his band mates.

  • @marccolombo6238
    @marccolombo6238 6 лет назад

    Kick ass drummer, no doubt! My only feedback would be is that the songs could breathe more without the need to fill in every possible space with licks. You have truly changed the songs from originality.

    OK TODD.... I'LL MAKE DEAL WITH YA.... 🤫...🤔... YOU, I mean, I can really see and tell how much it truly troubles you to play that specific set of Reference Pure's... so, you give them to me... keep the cymbals, they are a very special thing and it does take awhile to get just the right timbre from your cymbals, sometimes years before they all fall in place and play well, and "nice, nice" with each other, and those are special to you, Ohhh, I can tell that for sure!! But I love the way those little round noise makers sound, not too mention the finish...!!! They certainly make my Honey Amber Pro M's look.... well a bit like an "Orangy Sky," and they really should "be out with another guy...." "it's just a broken lullaby...!!"
    But to My Pro M's, if I have to, I will say, "Bye, bye love...!!" 🤔
    It's a thought....
    Right...
    Nooooo!!??!!??
    Ohhhh....Kayyyy!! 😔
    Happy Holidays...
    ANYWAY, KEEP ON KEEPING ON BROTHER DRUMMER!!!!!!!!!!

      Exactly! Tremendously technical musician covering a not so technical player in john ponazzo. I don't remember john playing any quads in any Styx songs. Same w guy who replaced Danny seraphine in Chicago. Danny had so many signature fills that he just does his own thing on .its disappointing. Your basically a tribute band drummer do it right we all can hear how good you are
