I’m sort of new at cooking. I lost my wife a few months ago. She was the best cook ! Now I’m having to provide for myself. ( sometimes I do good.. other times I have to throw it out 😂) thank you for your help. This 75 yr old old man needs all the help he can get. 🥴. God Bless you for sharing your talent and your beliefs.
🌿🕊 I love that your cooking and not buying frozen dinners. When you eat good all your life, that frozen tastes like "you know what". Keep cooking. You're 75 and I'm sure you know we make mistakes & can be the better for it. This is the place you'll get that down-home food that fills your stomach & your 💙 heart. I look forward to hearing how your getting along. I bet other people here do too. (sorry, I talk too much)
I tess granny knows what your. Talking about its like oh my but we learned as we do and watching hillbilly kitchen she wonderful so much fun and information thanks everyone have a good safe fun yummy weekend and week ahead happy brithday to all those in aust and all month of September gbu all sorry about all
This was my grandmother’s tradition EVERY single morning (even after her husband died) … she kept the huge breakfast popping along with cheesy grits. Her and my grandpa owned their own farm where the good homemade sausages were made with real farmhouse chicken hatched eggs. We had a good and BIG breakfast every morning! I miss my grandparents so much.
I want to thank you❤ I'm the only one of six girls that could not cook gravy. My momma tried. I just cound not get it. My mommaw tried many time to teach me. The last time she tried, she took the fork from me, looks at my mom and said, Gloria, she can't be taught. She can't be taught. 25 years later. Hillbilly Kitchen did it!!! I can make gravy!!! It smells and taste just like home. There are some smells that trigger great memories. The smell of mommaws gravy is heavily. Following your recipe did it!!! Thank you ❤
My pastor used to make us this biscuits and gravy for our church breakfasts. He was from the south and man he could cook. He went to be with the Lord last year, so now I gotta learn how to make this. Thank you for your video
You should be in a school teaching young men and women how to cook for themselves once they leave home. I watched my mom cook and asked a lot of questions even after I had left home. One of the best lessons I've ever learned was to cook. God bless you!
My mom and grandmother both employed me to help prep food, so I learned first-hand how to cook from them. I ended up being a bachelor until my early 30s, so I appreciated the skill to be able to cook a homemade meal for myself after I moved out. Now my wife (who also cooks) gets to enjoy it too! Literally one of the most important life skills.
I can agree with that. There are so many young men and women who do not know how to cook. If they were able to listen to Becky, I think they would be amazed at how fun and nutritious their meals could be. Oh, and also economical.
My mom was born and raised in Alabama. She taught me how to make bacon grease gravy when i was 8. I'm now 64 and have been making sausage and bacon gravy all these years...lol Can i say i think i have it perfected? Lol I hope you are happy and doing well these days 💗
OMG!! I don't know how to thank you! I grew up on biscuits and gravy, it was a treat my mom made every so often, but especially on special occasions. Being young and thinking mom was gonna live forever I took learning how to make this for granted, silly me, we lost her last year. Realizing how much I miss her, and her cooking, along came you! You make this exactly how she did, and I thought in her memory, I can do this. Made it this morning and she would be SO proud. 1st time out, nailed it, it brought back so many great memories, it was hard to eat and cry at the same time, but we did it! Thanks for making me WANT to make this. God I miss mom. Peace and blessings to you and your family. Thanks again.
@Gayle Brown I'm thinking we never get over the loss of that ONE person who was always there for us, good or bad, no matter what. My sympathies to you for your loss too. Please take care, peace and blessings. 🕊️💜🕊️
I am an ancient hillbilly, and this took me back 60 years when gravies were plentiful. Everyone's grandma made excellent gravy. I've never mastered the art, but after watching your video, I may give it a try. Your delightful accent also took me back. Thanks for doing this video.
I was born and raised in Detroit, and my grandmother was from South Carolina. She insisted on not only fixing Southern dishes, but teaching me how to cook 'em myself. "Any man who can't cook for himself is as useless as flippers on a horse," she'd always tell me. I make biscuits and gravy every Saturday morning. My wife is grateful lol
I agree so much!! I cook almost every meal and really enjoy it!! So does my wife and kids!! I also fix the vehicles, build things, etc....so you can do it all!!
Love. Love. Love . Your grandma's saying. HOWEVER. Today this holds true also for women. I met a woman coworker in her 20's in the 90's that was clueless how to follow directive by me of how to peel and cut carrots into carrot sticks. My brothers know their way around the kitchen better than many women going back 3 generations.
my granny taught me how also even her creamy cheese grits . i never could master her german chocolate cake however . she even taught me how to use a shotgun so i could shoot rabbits for supper till papaw got tired of rabbit and took me out deer hunting . i miss them now im a grandpa lol
@Gayle Brown as soon as they are old enough just as i taught my children as long as they wanted to keep learning both cooking and gun safty even car maintnace. even taught all 5 children to drive a standard and ride motor cycles. they all got the basics and learned .as for butter yeah i remember scraping the fresh cream from the milk and shaking that mason jar while listening to the stories my grand parents shared with us . oldest grandchild is just 2 years old but im looking forward to it
This was our Sunday breakfast . I was brought up on. More bacon, fresh sliced tomatoes, fried potatoes and onions.I just realized this is one memory that wasn’t bad.Thank youBecky. That was 68 years ago.
I had a step grandma who taught me how to cook this just like Becky did. I still make it from time to time. It always reminds me of her and her big Sunday breakfast together with the whole family ❣️
I loved my mother's sausage gravy, she passed away three years ago. I'll make it for breakfast and sometimes I'll have it for dinner. I also like bacon gravy and hamburger gravy. I like a lot of pepper in my gravies. I enjoy watching you cook.
Bacon gravy is my favorite! I'm surprised how many people act like it shouldn't exist 😂 Once they taste it, quite a few have started asking how. I've been making my oven bacon with a swish of brown sugar brushed on it. I wonder how that would go in gravy. Gotta find out
Becky, I've been watching you long enough to know that I can take what you said or what your granny said over the FDA ANY DAY!!! You cook just like my mama! Amazing, thanks!
I love how you speak about God while you're working with simple, delicious bounty. You are a God send. There's edifying "stuff" out there if a child of God looks for it.Seek and we shall find.I love hamburgers and I'm going to try and make some of your buns.Wow, that would be great.🤗
Sausage gravy and biscuits have traditionally been the bane of my existence. One time it turned into gravy bread. I do NOT recommend that. BUT -- I would like to VERY PROUDLY announce that tonight I made it while following along with you and..... IT WORKED!!!!!! ☺️ Thank you so much for posting!!!
You can also fry your sausage and break it up with a spatula. Leave it in the skillet. Add the flour and follow the rest of the recipe. Add your milk about half a cup at a time until you have what you need. The longer it simmers, the thicker it will get. I have been very fortunate to live in an area where I buy Kentucky Kernel Seasoned Flour. Fantastic for many things.
When I was 17 years old, I cooked at a Sizzler Steakhouse and we made our own cream gravy for chicken fried steak. Same basic recipe as sausage gravy, without the sausage. Combine the flour with melted butter. To kick up the flavor, I added a spoonful of garlic salt and onion powder.
I have never even heard of fried apples! Im so excited to give them a try! I just made this gravy with your 2 ingredient biscuits. Super yummy! Thank you so much and I love Jesus! My Lord and savior!!
I am 66 and don’t know how to cook. I haven’t even tried it in the past two years. I am very excited about your channel and beliefs and will attempt this gravy. I can smell it now and I don’t think I will burn it. This is exciting, thank you for sharing.
Being a city boy from Maine, I was in for quite the surprise when I went to live with my dad in Oklahoma. Biscuits and gravy was one of those surprises. He always made his with bacon because one of our cats loved bacon, but I prefer sausage when I make it. Still one of the best breakfasts out there and if you haven't had it, make it now. You'll be glad you did.
Try it with chipped beef, served on toast , and have SOS .... When the Baptist Preacher would order it in my Dad's restaurant on Sundays after Church , Dad's waitress would yell the order back to the window " We'll have one order of Save Our Sinners ! " Never failed to break the place up ! Good Memories .
My dad, God rest his beautiful soul, made fabulous sausage gravy, he was a great cook & was famous for his breaded pork chops. That's how I make it w/sausage, I had a great teacher. Thank you so much, delish!
This lady knows what she's doing! Exactly how my family has made gravy for generations. So easy to make but so many people are afraid to try it. In the beginning you will screw up a batch or two but you will be a pro in no time!
Once you keep trying to make gravy, it will come to you naturally. It's so easy that I taught our daughter to make gravy during a visit to see her in Texas and she is a great cook!!
I love how simple you made this!! My mom has tried to teach me to make this a dozen times, and it never worked! After cooking along with you here, I did it!!! My husband even loved it! So we both thank you!
Dude, I grew up with sausage gravy like from this video. I feel like I should hate the idea of a spam version, but it actually sounds pretty good. I have a can of it, and I'll be making it tomorrow. Also, I thought spam was a Hawaii thing, has it really made its way to NZ too?
Spam, Squirrel, rabbit, bacon, sausage, country ham. They all make excellent gravry.. if you need extra grease save it from bacon, ham are sausage. We keep a small can in the fridge door.
I'm in my 70's and the first thing I learned to do as a growed up adult was make my own sausage gravy and biscuits. Sausage patties on fresh baked biscuits covered with sausage gravy sustained me on many a cold winter morning. Great video! Thank you!
Ill never forget when my.granddaughter made home made french fries and it BLEW the mind of her.friends...they had to be in their 20s. I asked her if they knew.milk came.from cows and.eggs.from.chickens...shesaid she doubted it...they were all libtards lazy asses
@@sislertx Your comment is very hateful and nasty. It says far more about you than it does about the people you're speaking nastily about. I agree completely with the comment above about your un-Christian attitude.
Actually it was more than likely because they had never been taught to cook. Either both parents, or like myself, raised by a single mother, who had to work - hard, unlike your nasty opinions about ‘libtards’ - & ‘home cooking’ came out of cans or was freezer food. My Mother may not have taught me to cook great, but she did teach me not to be mean ol’ hypocrite. I’m teaching myself to cook…you??
You are such a BLESSING! I have been following your videos for some months now and at 63 and "a pretty good cook", I've learned so much and so many great recipes from you! God bless you, you feed the body AND the soul! Hallelujah!💞✝️
You are a joy to watch! I am a certified pastry chef-getting ready to order your cookbook to try everything! Thank you from a Virginia country gal. God bless you.
God bless you. In the troubling times we live in, I find videos such as yours not just worth saving and trying but also comforting. We need much more God fearing church going folks like you.
I'm a New Englander and I've never eaten biscuits and gravy. It looks delicious and I'm going to attempt cooking it.I enjoy your videos.I've learned a lot so far!!Thank you😘
Love your channel! Thank you for your practical, yummy recipes that remind me of my southern roots and my grandmas delicious cookin. And THANK YOU for letting everyone know you're a proud American woman that loves God and respects the right He gave us to protect the ones we love so dearly! God bless you and yours 💕
I like how you do the gravy, very simple and not a whole lot of meat. I do my gravy the same way except for one ingredient. My dad always used pet milk in the can. It creates an amazing texture, color, and flavor. Well done 🙏🏻
It baffles me how many people turn their noses up at biscuits and sausage gravy. My first experience with this dish was at a Bob Evans restaurant and I was hooked for life. I have a friend whose wife doesn't understand his southern love for this dish. Sausage gravy...sawmill gravy...as long as there's some great biscuits to dip them in, this is breakfast Heaven!
Ma'am.. I knew there was something about you that blessed me, and when you said, remember to put God first my heart leaped! Thank you sis for sharing :) you have such a humble spirit!
Yes ma'am great ideas nice gotta ♥️🇱🇷 us country folks any flour I grabbed King Arthur flour at the best flour I ever bought also you would ♥️ Pinterest all these wonderful recipes great people they would love some of your ideas. Stay safe and keep cookin. 2021 made some homemade sauce sour cream, cherry jelly, chopped pickles and a tad of pickle juice and pepper. Nothin better than good food and great southern cookin.
Thank you SO much, my new friend! I am 53 and JUST successfully made my first pan of sausage gravy. My maternal grandparents were from southern KY, but left there in the '30's and raised their family in central IN. My mom cooked like this, but it didn't transfer to me, as she never measured anything. I've seen it done many times, and knew I'd recognize the "right" way when I saw it. I just needed your practical tips, and exact measurements. I've now subscribed and watched several of your videos. Thank you for using this platform to share your faith. You are a blessing! Eating that delicious breakfast was like a trip back home. Full tummy, full hearts!
Thank you Ms. Becky for the memories! I was raised in Kentucky, Hazard area, and Mamaw taught me at age 14 to make biscuits and gravy. I'm thankful God gave her patience as she "numerous times", stood at that stove teaching me. She taught me the consistency of the rue depends on thickness of the gravy while being gentle on adding cream/milk/or buttermilk. Of course, a little liquid at a time as it continues to thicken and boil to the desired consistency. Buttermilk gravy is my favorite!!! God bless you and family. I continue to pray for all the lost souls and that God continues to guide me through this sinful world as I await his arrival. I'm new to your channel, now a subscriber. 🤗🙏❤
Never thought about using Buttermilk. I will have to try, but my favourite use for Buttermilk, is to drink it. I do keep Buttermilk on hand, and know how to make it, and sour cream as well. Yes, I'm the weird one who drinks Buttermilk. Only one of my friends do. steve
From WV here. It was my Grandaddy that taught me to fry bacon and make sawmill gravy and biscuits. I was 10. Granny was a late sleeper and he wasn't. My bedroom was off the kitchen and he'd wake me up and we'd cook and eat breakfast together. Pure love
Gosh, her biscuits look wonderful. We live near KFC. Ant the who owns the franchise makes the best biscuits, and when I know I'm making biscuits iuts and gravy the next morning. I reheat wrapped in tin foil or parchment paper on low heat while the gravy is cooking, that is if any last long enough for breakfast. I'm 65, and it never occurred to me to use a fork to break down the sausage. I always just used the spatula. But her photo of the smooth gravy made me watch the video. And I'm so glad I did!!!
Hey this is what we were raised on. Thank God for parents who loved their children and taught them how to cook.l am woman 78 yrs old but on here as his ands name. Do not like Facebook or internet. I am old school..Love KY and Wva course Ohio taught me lots of things. Amen.
Trisha Pearson make sure your flour is “done”, watch it while stirring, it should start to brown before milk is poured in. I think it’s so understood that flour needs to be cooked before adding milk, that this is overlooked.
Hi Becky, this is my first time viewing your channel, I hope you never get tired of hearing this.. your southern drawl is awesome! I was blessed to have my moms parents who were German and Italian (both very thick accents) raise me.. well for the most part. Then mom married when I was 5 to a very good man.. which meant I inherited another grandma, his mother. She was very southern with a thick accent as well! LoL This was not a wealthy woman by any means, in fact she struggled at times financially. She had 3 grown sons and had no intentions of having any other children in her mid 50’s.. but surprise! She had a daughter that was only a year older than myself when we met. Technically, her little girl was my Aunt by marriage but naturally we were raised more like sisters. I’ll tell you what, my southern granny made the best food out of practically nothing sometimes. Her biscuits and gravy were simple just like u showed in your tutorial but ohhh so flavorful! Just like you said, it didn’t take much sausage to feed a handful of ppl since it was only meant to flavor the gravy. I probably wouldn’t have tried rabbit in my lifetime had it not been for her southern cooking. Her fried chicken was to die for and she could do anything with a pot of beans and some cornbread when the budget got tight.. and it was delicious! Traditionally at Christmas time, we did not set out milk and cookies for Santa at her house but rather a bowl of butter bean soup and a homemade biscuit. One year us girls woke up early bc we were excited about the holiday.. and opening gifts of course. To our horror we caught mom/granny eating the bowl of butter bean soup! She told us that Santa had eaten most of it but he was behind schedule and had to go. Naturally she didn’t want the rest of that soup to go to waste. 😉 We we’re satisfied with her story (age6) and went back to bed. 😂 This will surely give away my age but us girls would watch Romper Room when we were little and like any child we wanted the same toys that were featured on the show but granny couldn’t afford that stuff so she would make us her own version, the woman was magic in my eyes. She didn’t have much as a child herself.. or as an adult for that matter but she knew how to make due.. and she always made it with lots of love and a dash of fun. She was a special lady, I will forever miss her until we meet again. 😊❤️🌻
Thank you for sharing your wonderful memories 😊 My Granny was the greatest person I ever knew. It was like God put extra love in her to make up for material things she did without. Welcome to the Hillbilly Kitchen! God Bless You!
All we had to do for my mother was look in the Sears catalogue and pick out a dress or night gown and shed cut a paper sack pattern and make it. Out of a pretty feed sack of course. I miss her so.
My Granny was much the same. Never had much. But we always had love and God in our life ( Johnny Cash too ) . She sang while cooking. I loved every minute with her. Miss both Grandparents very much. They don't make them like that no more ! 💯❤️
Simply put: this is the way I remember cooking and eating. My southern grandparents moved west and shared so much....and now I’m back south representing and trying to (re) capture family heritage for my southern husband. We are middle aged and food culture is really what it’s about: “if you can eat you’re not poor.” Thanks for creating this channel.
Thought I was about the last person that cooked like this anymore. I was taught to cook by my mother and grandmother back in the 70s and it tastes just as good in the 2020s. May not be healthy from what the doctor says but my grandparents lived til their 90s eating the old school cooking. Thanks for the videos it's just like watching my mother cook again.
I made your sausage gravy this evening for myself and my neighbor, we are two old geezers that enjoy many of the same things and like doing them together like eating. :) The gravy turned out perfect and I served it with mashed potatoes. We both had two helpings and that was dinner for me though Bob also had one of the chicken breasts I grilled as well. He must have been pretty hungry or he was stuffing his pockets for later. :) The process is simple and easy to do, got to be for me because I’m no cook by any stretch of the imagination. Thank you so much for sharing your culinary skills with all of us. :) Next is biscuits!
Your gravy looked so easy I thought I would try this with hamburger meat. I fried up some burgers and then some extra meat for the gravy. Putting flour right on the meat is brilliant. Turned out perfectly! Your detailed instructions about thickening or thinning the gravy, and how to scrape the pan were sooo helpful. I never imagined I could make perfect gravy in my cast iron skillet. Thank you for this video.
This is the first thing my grandmother taught me to make when I was 13, I'm now 44 I've mastered this pretty good now but I'm always up for learning ways other people make these wonderful southern dishes...
What a treasure ! I love this channel. I have ancestors from the OuterBanks NC....the Millers. This was their diet- nice nutritious food. No fancy restaurants nor pre-packaged food items. Homemade biscuits everyday at the Miller house on Cedar st. ELIZABETH CITY NC. Your tip on thin gravy is just the right advice I needed. Us men will continue these fine traditions !
I love watching You cook and explain everything to Us. Thank You, Becky. I am from up North in Box Elder, South Dakota. I have not commented in a While. I just wanted to Thank You for explaining how to make the best Sausage Gravy. I am an older, Native American Woman at 58 and can cook a lot of things. I just Was not raised on Biscuits and Gravy. Mine never seemed to turn out correctly. I love it when You share passages and experiences. GOD BLESS YOU AND ALL OF YOUR FAMILY. ✝🙏🏽 😊❤👍🏼👋🏼
Lord I just have to tell you that many a year ago my parents left me and my sister with my grandparents in West Virginia while they headed North to find work in the factory and provide a better life for us. Grandma cooked breakfast like what you showed dern near every morning. Never got tired of it! Grandpa always had to have fried apples or some rice cooked. He of course always made it sweet with some butter and sugar. That was the BEST years of my life. I wouldn't trade them memries for nothing in this world. Thank you.
Just how my Mom and Grandma and Great Grandma made sausage gravy. That first bite will make your tongue slap your brains out, that's how good this is.. God Bless.
Your husband was like mine, he was a diabetic, he lived to be ninety , passed by doctor misdiagnosing it.( keto acidosis ) he loved his homemade biscuits, gravy. Sweets, they crave there sweets. He did watch what he ate kept his reading in good range. that’s a horrible disease, wish we had a cure for all the diseases, I’m so thankful I don’t have it, it runs in both of our families. I feel for those that have a hard time keeping it in the range it’s needed.God Bless all that have it or any of the other disease.🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
I made this today for the first time and it was a huge hit! I never thought of adding the flour with the meat first, so as not to get lumps! My son and husband thank you, and so do I. :)
I add the whole pound and lots of salt and pepper and a little sugar. I use to hang out with my mama in the kitchen and keep her company while she cooked. I ask questions and she answered me and showed me how to do stuff. Maybe that's why I was her favorite. I say that not to brag but I'm the only one she had a pet name for.
Bless your heart Becky. I love watching you. You are very detailed. I love biscuits and gravy. I live in Virginia. This was a great staple for breakfast or dinner. My mother fixed the gravy the same way. I learned from her. She was a great cook. She is now with the Lord. I miss her cooking so much, but i miss her more. She was my best friend and a wonderful Christian mother. Keep up your work for the Lord! Have a blessed day!! Love in Christ!!
I’m hoping that the good Lord will keep you around for a long time. I seriously need you. The wonderful instructions you give to us is priceless. I pray 🙏 for you and family. Giving it a try tomorrow 😃👍👍
I am from NJ and fell in love with biscuits and gravy when I attended Maryville College in Maryville, TN. I would eat biscuits and gravy all day every day if my doctor wouldn't yell at me. Sooooo yummy. Thank you for this easy recipe!
My husbands step aunt taught me this method when we were first married. Only I didn’t have measurements. I would go by look and feel. I like a little more grease. I have been known to add some butter if my meat is a bit too dry. Also important for people to know when making gravy like this. Make sure you do take time to cook the flower mixture a little before adding milk. It’s not only to thicken it up if you rush you can taste the flour . Thanks for suggested measures.
Totally impressed with the simplicity. And that's some good eating there. I can tell you from experience in both camps: the high dollar "5 Star" presentations will not bring the level of satisfaction that this lady's cooking will.
Great job lady. This took me back to when my family traveled to Kentucky to visit my extended family. My great aunt always made gravy just like this and it got me hooked on down home biscuits and gravy. Excellent work!
You are a good person! I love the practicality of your cooking. People love when I fix anything I learned from you! It always wakes up memory’s from their past! City folk as well as country folk. This is the way we all lived before everything was prepared in a factory!
I love homemade sausage gravy, and always make sure I brown the flour mixture before adding milk. Nothing ruins gravy for me more than tasting uncooked flour.
No kidding! My grandmother was from Kentucky, so we ate a LOT of biscuits n gravy- imagine my shock and horror when I moved to Texas and someone served me WHITE gravy!!!😂😂😂😂 Bleh!
Just subscribed to you last week. I'm as country as bean and taters and I just love you to death. You quoted a Bible verse and I was amazed. You truly are a kitchen angel, lol. Love the advice. Keep on doing a great job. Hugs.🙏
Becky I am so grateful for this video. Love the way you explain things....full of love and patience. I have made this twice and it has worked each time. Thank you.❤
I made your sausage and gravy and biscuits this morning for breakfast. My husband told me to tell you that breakfast was delicious. Thank you, Becky, for these recipes. I also, scrambled some eggs and cooked some grits to eat with it. God bless you! John 16:33
I love the way you explained how to make this since it is the way my mom taught me back in the 70's. However, she,, and I,,, always used at the least, a half pound of ground sausage since we loved plenty of it in our gravy. We also had bacon and sausage on the side as well. Cast iorn is THE best type of skillet. I have made this gravy on camp fires as well and never had any left over from a full 15" skillet. At times, I would have to make two 15" skillets pf gravy to feed the 10-15 people in the group.
Thanks for the tip on not having to use all the sausage! I would likely slice the rest up, freeze in separate patties, and be able to get at least 2-3 more meals out of it. So it's money saving, and somewhat healthier as well! Thanks 😊
You are definitely blessed to be such a great cook, Becky! Unfortunately, some of us, no matter how hard we try, just aren't good cooks - I say each time we cook is a 'hit or miss.'😊
You are making memories...he will always cherish all the good things you teach him. I have four grandsons and they love to be in the kitchen with me too.❤️
Thank you so much. I've had problems making sausage gravy for 20 years and here you made it look so simple (and it looks SO YUMMY). People were saying you've got to take it off the heat when you add the milk, and all kinds of other things that never worked. God bless you.
@@theepistemiccafe that’s not a very nice comment. I grew up in places that had no electricity, no running water (had a pump or a well) and of course no indoor bathroom. Food got left out of the ice box regularly. We 7 children never got ill from food leftovers. So don’t forget that today’s food is filled with additives and such and that diseases such as cancer runs rampant and can be traced to things in our food. Don’t hate the old ways. Learn from your elders, disagree politely if you need to but don’t condemn what you know nothing about.
@@luvmywings Preach! lol, Im sort of young but honestly people have forgotten that we've only had refrigeration for less than 100 years. Yet we've been running around for thousands. You cant fix stupid but hopefully they'll grow some brains.
Thank you, it’s been a long, long time since I’ve attempted to make gravy. You’re instructions were spot on, and helpful in even rectifying a beginner error.
I grew up in the country and biscuits & sausage gravy is a staple. I absolutely love your channel. Bring back so many memories and lost recipes. Thank You!
my mamaw left the gravy on the stove all day too! I keep a container of bacon grease by my stove to add a bit of grease to mine when its too dry when i make my roux. God Bless
It was wonderful thank you so much I am going to go downstairs right now and make my family some potato pancakes and anyone that asked today for prayer you are in my prayers God bless you pray for my family I will pray for yours love you all good cooking ladies I come from a family of 14 nine brothers and four sisters my mother was a fantastic cook a fantastic mother and we had so much fun and I am the last 14 and sometimes it could be very sad but I have my faith and one day I will see them all again God bless😘😇💚🍀🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🇺🇸🇮🇱🇨🇮
Hey just came across your channel. Finally a true southern country cook. That’s exactly how my Mommo used to make it. I thinks it’s awesome that you are giving glory to God too.
I love your teaching on cooking and to know your a sister in Christ is over the top. Showed my wife now she lives you also. Tha neat hillbilly cooking lady.
I love your recipies, I've made many of them. This one really took me out of my comfort zone as I'm CA born and raised, never had biscuits and gravy in my life...and I'm hooked! This easy and amazing! Wish there were a way to send a picture!
I use my cast iron skillets on my glass top stove and your right just need to be careful about sliding it around. That looks so good makes me want some biscuits & gravy. YUM!
Thank you SO much for bringing it back home! My Grandmother's kitchens were my favorite time during summer vacation! Being a very proud only daughter of military and southern parents...my favorite time was showing off my new kitchen skills to their teammates, haha! Skip ahead I'm momma and made sure the boys always got fed after practice. Just wanted to let you know that it's women like you that taught me at church, choir and in their kitchens what potential we have. God Bless you!
This is the way we make our gravy. I use 1/2 , half and half, and 1/2 milk. (Adds Good flavor) when I have it. Otherwise I just use milk. My husband and I both came from a lot of good country cooks. Both our grandmother's and our mothers were very good cooks. We didn't go to restaurants ever when they were living. They all were better than restaurants. So, I wasn't an indoor girly girl. I stayed out with my dad in the garden and mowing yards etc. I knew basics from Mom, and I took Home Ec. In school. After we got married all I had to do is call one.of these great ladies and ask how to...So my husband and I share in the cooking...and he too became a pretty good cook. Love. to watch your channel. Country Home Cooking is a thing of the past for most people I know. God bless you and your cooking. Love to watch!
i learned how to make gravy from my mom who was a country girl herself. she always made gravy with bacon which is how i make it too. but i enjoyed watching you cook that lady. cheers
The best way to thicken the gravy when its just too thin, in my opinion, is put a tablespoon of corn starch in a dish and mix in a 1/4 cup of water or milk and add in to the gravy a little bit at a time, stirring constantly until its almost the thickness you desire. It will get much thicker as it cools.
@@modickens1272You may have used too much cornstarch. Also, you can heat it up and it will still be good, you may have to add a little more milk or water, or whatever you want.
Arrow root is my favorite thickener ever! Also, a tsp in cool water clears up diarrhea so well! But we have corn in everything already use arrowroot! I am allergic to corn also so this could be valuable?

In the mountains of GA and SC we use a pound of sausage to fry up in crumbles and then add rest of ingredients. This makes a good sausage gravy that stands alone as sausage gravy and biscuits for breakfast. Now in WV where I'm from this is the way we did it as part of a big breakfast where we'd have eggs, sausage gravy, sausage patties and fried taters.
From & still here in S.C. We still do that lol Luckily we can order it at Restaurants in the a.m. on the way to work or school. GOD BLESS & Always put GOD First.
I'm from Georgia and we always started by frying up the whole pound then adding everything else to it. I also add milk or flour as needed as I go. Not sure why she said not to. You just have to go really slow.

Heck I miss them too...just from your description!

Great video. Thank you!
Found your channel on a fluke, and I'm so glad I did! I'm an old country boy. God, country, family, and GRAVY!
I'm now 64 and have been making sausage and bacon gravy all these years...lol
Can i say i think i have it perfected? Lol
I hope you are happy and doing well these days 💗
This made me cry God bless you.
I hope they were happy tears! Thank you for the kind words. 🕊️

Me too,I really miss my Mom in the kitchen with her apron on,cooking away.I learned alot just watching.
I am an ancient hillbilly, and this took me back 60 years when gravies were plentiful. Everyone's grandma made excellent gravy. I've never mastered the art, but after watching your video, I may give it a try. Your delightful accent also took me back. Thanks for doing this video.
You can do it!
Grandmas are the best cooks and teachers.

Great job and way to KEEP AT IT! I bet you got it all the way down now 💙
You can also fry your sausage and break it up with a spatula.
My parents have 13 children , I remember mom making almost all these dishes , warms my heart to see them all again , god bless

Being a city boy from Maine, I was in for quite the surprise when I went to live with my dad in Oklahoma. Biscuits and gravy was one of those surprises. 🤗🙏❤

The gravy turned out perfect and I served it with mashed potatoes. We both had two helpings and that was dinner for me though Bob also had one of the chicken breasts I grilled as well.
He must have been pretty hungry or he was stuffing his pockets for later. :)
The process is simple and easy to do, got to be for me because I’m no cook by any stretch of the imagination.

Chromium is a mineral that helps blood sugar. Read up on it.
I made this today for the first time and it was a huge hit! I never thought of adding the flour with the meat first, so as not to get lumps! My son and husband thank you, and so do I. :)
I myself enjoy the whole pound of sausage in my gravy. I have cooked all my life and taught all my children + the nephews to cook sausage gravy.
💯
Put GOD first!!!!AMEN!!!!!
This is a meal my mom still makes for us kids when we come home! What a blessing she is for us...
God bless you for all of the memories.
You ma'am, are a doll. Please keep telling us guys how to cook. Again, thank you for teaching us.
I love homemade sausage gravy, and always make sure I brown the flour mixture before adding milk. Nothing ruins gravy for me more than tasting uncooked flour.
I do the same thing!
No kidding! My grandmother was from Kentucky, so we ate a LOT of biscuits n gravy- imagine my shock and horror when I moved to Texas and someone served me WHITE gravy!!!😂😂😂😂 Bleh!

Amen to all y'all.
@@richellmcknight446 I’m with you. I am from Alabama and so many people here cook WHITE gravy. Can’t stand it. I make brown gravy. It is so good.
Just subscribed to you last week. I'm as country as bean and taters and I just love you to death. You quoted a Bible verse and I was amazed. You truly are a kitchen angel, lol. Love the advice. Keep on doing a great job. Hugs.🙏
Thank you for subscribing. Welcome to The Hillbilly Kitchen and God bless you!
Becky
I am so grateful for this video.
Thanks for sharing that with us, God bless you!
Great memories and yummy food!
Thanks for the tip on not having to use all the sausage! I would likely slice the rest up, freeze in separate patties, and be able to get at least 2-3 more meals out of it.
So it's money saving, and somewhat healthier as well! Thanks 😊
I love your cooking show. I’m showing my granddaughter how to cook and this is so easy. Thank you and God Bless you are a Christian!!
Thank you for your kind words. God Bless You!
@@TheHillbillyKitchen all purpose or self rising flour??
You are definitely blessed to be such a great cook, Becky! Unfortunately, some of us, no matter how hard we try, just aren't good cooks - I say each time we cook is a 'hit or miss.'😊
I'm a new member and I absolutely adore you. I'm ready for my improved sausage gravy 😊 Thank you so much for being so down to Earth ❤️
Biscuits and gravy (and some over-easy eggs) is an occasional indulgence but absolutely my favorite breakfast. Thanks, Becky.
I just taught my 14 yr old grandson how to make sausage gravy, he couldn’t believe how easy it was!!! Soon, time to teach him how to make biscuits!!!
I taught my son how to cook & he usually cooks when he’s home & he sometimes cooks in his truck instead of a truck stop out on the road.
Susan Dooley teach me my mother passed away before I could learn how to. Pass to your son ....best
Miss Becky my grandma and mom would leave food out on the table until we ate it. Nothing went in the trash or the refrigerator. Never got sick either.
Such great memories! 💖

That's the way to go! Picky eaters need a good slap! Never hurt my generation!
Thank you, it’s been a long, long time since I’ve attempted to make gravy. You’re instructions were spot on, and helpful in even rectifying a beginner error.
Omg. I started actually smelling your sausage cooking while watching this! Took me back to grandma’s house.
Becky, I love you because you show us so many recipes and I have learned so much from you thank you and God bless you
I grew up in the country and biscuits & sausage gravy is a staple. I absolutely love your channel. Bring back so many memories and lost recipes. Thank You!
Thank you for watching, God bless you!
my mamaw left the gravy on the stove all day too! I keep a container of bacon grease by my stove to add a bit of grease to mine when its too dry when i make my roux. God Bless

Hey just came across your channel. Finally a true southern country cook. That’s exactly how my Mommo used to make it. I thinks it’s awesome that you are giving glory to God too.
Thank you 😊 Welcome to the Hillbilly Kitchen! God Bless You!!!
That is one of my all-time favorite breakfast , I grew up on these kind of breakfasts. That really looks delicious 😋
Thank you 😊 I was a daddy's girl too. God Bless You!
Dadgum girl, bringing me back to my childhood. Ain't a thing wrong with biscuits and gravy! 🌹
Linda I love reading comments like yours. Makes me think of my childhood and all the folks down home that contributed to my upbringing. Thanx.

One of my favorite breakfast foods with fried potatoes home grown tomatoes!❤👍❤🙏👍❤
i learned how to make gravy from my mom who was a country girl herself. she always made gravy with bacon which is how i make it too. but i enjoyed watching you cook that lady.
Yup! Me too. I love cornstarch. Use it to rescue a lot of my recipes 😀
I did that once with chicken and dumplings and the next day after refrigeration I could've mortared bricks with it
@@modickens1272You may have used too much cornstarch.
We LOVE your down home, cooking skills! Your videos make me feel like I'm apart of your family! We try to emphasize the simplicity on our cooking show, RUclips channel, as well. We are huge fans of yours!!! 💕

Also I think you meant 1and1/3 cup flour.
Sounds like good eating
My family is from eastern KY and do the same thing.
From & still here in S.C.
We still do that lol
Luckily we can order it at Restaurants in the a.m. on the way to work or school.
GOD BLESS & Always put GOD First.
I'm from Georgia and we always started by frying up the whole pound then adding everything else to it. I also add milk or flour as needed as I go. Not sure why she said not to. You just have to go really slow.
