~Tapping into Your Potential Where Others Saw None~ - Видеоклипы
The album Throwing Copper is one of the best albums to come out of the 90's, not a bad song on the entire thing and still sells well in record stores 30 odd years later. I Alone is a must do, tho personally I love The Beauty Of Grey. More LIVE please Van, you won't be disappointed bro.
Yeah agreed
For sure, I remember, like 8 tracks off this album on the radio, but my favorite "pillars of Davidson" didn't lol
Mental jewelry was better.... But this album was top notch
I grew up partying with these guys in York Pa
Definitely in the top 10 albums of the 90's. Too bad they faded away...
20 years ago this May my Grandmother passed away, on the day of her funeral (3 days later) my son was born. I had sat with my grandmother for many hours before she passed, she was waiting for my son. The circle of life comes to all of us. It may not be an intended idea behind this song but to me it took a great meaning at the time. My Mother went and bought CDs for my sister and I both. I listened to this and got chills.
The circle of life is definitely the intent. At least imo…
The band dedicated this song to Barbara Lewis, one of their high school friends who was killed by a drunk driver around the time it was written. Her brother in-law Cory told Songfacts the story:
"The song's lyrics are mostly an analogy. Barb donated several organs, including her heart. She was close with Ed [lead singer Ed Kowalczyk] and the guys and died in a car collision with a fleeing armed robber. These lyrics are constantly misunderstood! Yes, Ed is speaking to the circle of life, but specifically to how Barb's life gave new life to many. The angel, the baby down the hall, the pale blue eyes (of Barb), the pain ("confusion")... the lyrics are wholly Ed's interpretation of his experience and perception of Barb's impact. Our family has become close with the most genuine and caring man who is still alive today (over 10 years later), who has Barb's heart beating in his chest! 'Lightning Crashes' literally lives on."
Thank you for this insight. Very touching. 💔
This song will now have new meaning to me every time I hear it ♥️ Thank you 🙏🏼 Beautiful ♥️
Yeah... But the key word is DEDICATED.
She had nothing to do with the song initially.
I would also say the lyrics CAN be an analogy... Not ARE an analogy.
I think this description while mostly accurate is still written in a way that lends one to believe it was somehow written FOR her.
Ed makes absolutely no mention of her as any inspiration for the song.
The song is about the emergency room and he says he hasn't a clue where it came from
My daughter died in an auto accident in 2001 , , she was 17 and in high school. She donated what was possible, this is the first time in over 10 years listening to this song , this was hard
I remember hearing this a lot when I was in high school. Didn't appreciate it back then. Randomly listened to it a few years ago and I felt like I got hit with a train of emotions when I really focused on the lyrics. Needless to say it's on my regular playlist now..
This was one of the best songs of that decade, what in the world were you listening to back then?
@@move_i_got_this5659 🤣 yeah I don't know what I was thinking. 94/95? Knowing me, probably White Zombie, Korn, Weezer, Green Day. Bands like that. My brain works in weird ways. Really don't know why I didn't like the song at the time
My sister was a beautiful creature who summoned the life of 4 beautiful children into the world...she left us far too soon at age 30...she was an organ donor...this song is a punch in the gut.
The Circle of life...An Old mother closes her eyes, a new baby opens his eyes....Lightning crashes as each soul enters and leaves the earth
Interesting that you mention the energy. Live was sometimes criticized for the soft/loud verse/chorus song structure. But where they excelled was building through the song within that structure. It's like a long crescendo, and suddenly you're at the peak without realizing how you got there.
As others have mentioned, their entire "Throwing Copper" album is worth listening to. These guys are real poets with their lyrics, and the band as a whole always sounds great. This always reminds me of the time that I went to the Tim Brown Football Camp in Los Angeles when I was 15--I had this on repeat at night on my CD player. Great times.
I'm about your age and my first ever actual concert was Live at the just renovated Jones Beach Amphitheater. Outdoors on and overlooking the ocean, sun setting, 15 or so years old and out with a bunch of friends just ourselves at our first concert. Eventually gets dark and Live come on and open with The Dam at Otter Creek. Starts slow and soft and lights minimal, no previous experience with concert acoustics or the crowd atmosphere. Music slowly builds up a bit, everyones quiet and listening...and then "BAM! BAM!" they get to the part with these two amazing quick and hard bass drum hits and the lights everewhere flare on and the crowd just erupts and then it all fades back to soft..."BAM! BAM!" and fade and soft verse..."BAM! BAM!"...fade but now getting closer together..."BAM! BAM"..."BAM! BAM!"...BAM! BAM!" and then into full-on rock show. First experience of bass going through my entire body, volume at full blast, the full visual coordination, the freedom of being out doing my own thing...it was and is still one of the best concert moments I have ever had. Hell, id even pick it as one of my top experiences overall to relive if i could.
Edit: Just for shits and giggles i looked it up and wouldn't you know it, there is a bootleg of the show on RUclips lol.
Thank you , we played this at my daughter's funeral It was her favorite 💔🥰
Aww how heartbreaking! But a beautiful song for probably a beautiful daughter. Sorry for your loss.
@@IdahoRanchGirl thank you 💓
Love these guys! Van the whole Throwing Copper CD is fire!
You are straight up on your reactions!! This song is about the dichotomy of life...when one ends, another begins somewhere else.
It’s about a mother and baby almost dying during the birthing process. They both live. This song epitomized the feeling we experience during potential loss. Forces pulling to the center of the earth again. We have all had that feeling pulling our stomachs down.
A passing of life from mother to child. Was a combat vet when this came out n made me cry for the understanding.
I grew up listening to rap mostly… but this song is among the few that really speak to me… it moves me. I can’t explain it…
Another great song from them is "The Dam at Otter Creek"
Mann I love this band. “All over you” is a great one too.
My favorite Live song... rich with memories
My favorite
They were literally my introduction into alternative music and I still keep them in rotation to this day. Their albums “Throwing Copper” and “Secret Samadhi” are perfection
Always liked this song as it makes you think and feel at the same time. This whole album was pretty darn good back in its day. Nice reaction!
One of my favorite bands. This whole album is fire 🔥
This song was featured in an episode of a short-lived tv series called "Strange Luck."
The Circle of Life... Has always been how I've interpreted this song. I've always enjoyed this one.
Basically the circle of life. Baby is born while on old mother dies. Gives me goosebumps everytime...
Need to get JoJo on +Live+. He's said he likes live performances, so their Woodstock '94, both SNL appearances, and the 2008 Live from the Paradiso dvd concert are great options. The crowd engagement from the last was just incredible.
If you want that same energy from Live, please listen to “Run to the Water” (That song does something to my soul whenever his voice and the melody hit that point in the song, and you will know the point I’m talking about when you get to it) and listen to “Dolphin’s Cry.” These 2 songs are phenomenal!
💖💖💖💖💖 live, can't go wrong,so many awesome songs, very unique & one of my favorites 🎶🔥🎶🔥
The circle of life. Great song. I learned this on guitar when it came out for my high school sweetheart.
I sang it to her at a house party and she was smiling, crying, and singing.
The 90s were awesome times.
You should check out Concrete Blonde JOEY 🔥
✌❤🇨🇦
There was a short lived TV show in the mid '90s called Strange Luck that used this song in at least one episode, if not as the show's theme music.
THIS SONG IS HEART-WRENCHING! I’ve listened to this song since it first came out and still tears me up till this day! Even more now that I’m a mom
Ahh this one takes back, my high school days. Live came and performed here in my home town in '96 they sort of hit big with this album and then went off the radar
One of the first CDs I ever bought for myself when I turned 13. Live has always been one of my favorite bands.
Awesome song very powerful. What a great voice🇨🇦✌🏻🇨🇦
This song to me is about spiritual energy with new life and death. We are all connected to each other you can feel energy of new life you can feel when someone's soul is no longer in their body. I've seen both working in hospitals.
Great song, sad, touching, powerful and beautiful...Thought they had a unique firey style/sound...They dedicated it to one of their high school friends who was killed by a drunk driver. Its a song about death and birth actually a kind of transference of life. As one dies another is born...Thanx for great reaction, Peace
Circle of life bro. That's as powerful and as simple as it gets.
This is not a movie. This is life.
Chad Gracey is the drummer and he hits the drums so hard they have to put up a three-sided plexiglas shield in front of him. Saw them ten times, both in small clubs and larger venues, and they were ALWAYS as good or better live than their recordings. Love this band.
Take a listen to “They Stood Up For Love” which is also quite infectious. Nice bass heavy grooves. Live as a band has always had great harmony & they layer the music very well. I got to see them in concert in 1995 for this album & they were amazing.
You have to listen to their other songs! Usually starts mellow and then bangs! I alone, Dolphins Cry, Lakinis Juice, and All Over You are iconic!
So glad you covered this song Van! One of my absolute favorites. I know it's about child birth but like any art/beauty it's really in the eye of the beholder. It can be whatever you want it to be, and it's beautiful
I saw them in concert in 2019 possibly one of my favorite concerts ever I forgot how many good songs they had
This reminds me of being young and stationed in Italy running around the beaches and going to the discoteches. Thanks for reacting to this. It brought back pleasant memories.
A lot of the times it takes a few listens to understand the meaning of a song, at least for me. I have to get the music before understanding the lyrics. This is a great song from a great album. "The Dam at Otter Creek" really kicks off this album. Worth a listen.
I'm sure others have already said what the song is about...I love this one and the story behind it.
Mozart's REQUIEM MASS, Beethoven's MOONLIGHT SONATA, Carl Orff's CARMINA BURANA
Been jamming to this since high school.
More LIVE, they're fantastic.
Selling the Drama
I, Alone
Lakini's Juice
Graze
Dolphin's Cry
Turn My Head
Simple Creed
and so many more....
Lakini's juice = fire
@@chefgeopec6255 Yessir!
To me, this has always been about reincarnation. I heard this yesterday on my car radio after many years. I almost had to pull over. I'd forgotten what a stunning song and performance this is.
I've had to pull over before too lol. Good for you
@@cindyvaillancourt9835 It shows we are a-Live, right? Blessings!
Please do the song "HEMORRHAGE" by the band FUEL! Another great band from this time period and one of the best concerts I saw back then.
It's basically about the circle of life at least that's how I always interpret it... I think this song can draw multiple meanings.
Long time subscriber, youtube never let me know. THIS IS MY FAVE SONG SINCE 1997. Rebirth and love are things I hold close.
Also relisten for the rebirth meaning
It's a masterpiece about the circle of life and death
Disturbed has some great videos. Prayer, the Light, Sound of Silence (I prefer the video over the Conan cut).
My favorite band!!!
I love Live! They have so many good songs
You make me laugh!!! And your faces??? Thanks for your reactions love them.
New life, old death, how the circle keeps rolling
These guys are so talented!
The first time I heard this song on the radio I was so transfixed I had to pull over into a parking lot so I could devote every iota of attention to it.
This song will always hit me in my feels. Brings back memories of lost loved ones, especially my parents and my little brother. This album is a great piece of work!
One of the best concerts I ever attended. Summer tour after this album came out.
This song always made me cry
I bought this "cassette" several times in high school because I would let someone borrow it and want to hear it again before it was returned, then I would just let them have it.
Some say this song is also about reincarnation; the old mother dies, the soul goes down the hall, the baby is born. Ed mentioned the song was about the transference of life. Very powerful and deep song
Greatly underrated band
Even a year later, I'm not seeing the comment, LFR: This song was first featured in a short-lived tv series, Strange Luck. During an episode about a guy who got away with murder racing to stop the execution to stop the falsely-convicted man.
goose bumps. good lord
From my understanding it's a song about life and death. The power in the human journey.
One of my favorites. Saw them in ‘97. The whole album is great.
I saw them live with Avril Levine. They were awesome and really nice to fans.
A wholly underrated album and band from the 90's.
And BTW....dont worry yourself about what it MEANS....worry about (first) how it FEELS to you. Worry about what the writer felt later if the song compels that journey.
Life. One dies at end of life, one gets born at the same time through someone else. Or life is taken, life is given to someone else.
Circle of life… Great song.
Love this song. One of the most beautiful songs out there. It makes you feel something.
This Song is way too good for any Netflix series. Great reaction as always though Van
The band is from York PA near Hershey PA (yes, that Hershey). York is a very Christian part of PA as is most of PA once your out of the armpits of Philly and Pittsburgh. Many of their songs revolve around Christian imagery and Ed Kowalczyk, the lead singer, appears, at least at this time in the mid-90s, to have become disillusioned with the faith struggling to square what sees with what many believe. Peace! ✌️👍
I remember this song. This is a good one.
Circle of life.
Great song.
Getting me emotional over here.
Classic and in lots of movies!
The song is about the circle of life.
love your channel Van. I think you would love the band Live song Hold me up & All over you ❤️ their album Throwing Copper is amazing
Come to think of it. I don’t think I’ve ever Lightning Crashes in any other type of entertainment
Love this song!
ok.. first lovin you and your family.. second open your eyes .. seriously not sarcastically.. for those last few moments. mr hall and fam.. i wish you all the best. you are an amazing family and i surely will listen to yall
One of their friends died birth, and they wrote this song for her.
Great song! I Alone is a fantastic song too. And All Over You
Iris is one of my favorites of theirs. ❤️
Great album!
Awesome tune
You would love this drummer if you watch any performance from the unplugged show they did! Seriously, I'm all about the guitars usually but in Live I love the drummer!
Great tune
I remember where I was the first time I heard this song. Great song and band
As far as your comment about whether this belongs in a movie, I'm sure I'm not the only one who got the feels from this because it was the closing for one of the greatest pre-fight hype television series ever for the UFC in Georges St. Pierre vs. BJ Penn II. That series and in particular the final scene with this song closing things out got fans whipped into a frenzy and emotion that the sport might have not seen since.
Wow I can’t believe you reacted to this song, it’s so beautiful 🌹🙏🏻🤩
I like that jam.
It’s just sonically pleasing to listen too.
I have to say Jamel aka Jamal has a great reaction to this song. Hope people will watch his as he gets the meaning of this song nearly perfectly.
Check out their song I alone
The circle of life. Babies start life, the parents die. And so it it conitinues. The next generation is born, the parents die. Life.
