    I was thinking like you in the beginning - the FTZ adapter means all I'll need are just the Z bodies. Truth is, it didn't take me long to realize how much better it is to pair the Z bodies with their native lenses. Better handling and balance, not to mention overall better lens performance

    • @seancameronphotographic3740
      @seancameronphotographic3740  3 года назад +11

      I can't deny that Z bodies are better with their native lenses, as you say lens performance and definitely focus ability. I don't even rule out getting a Z70-200mm at some point. However, I stand by the statement that if you already have F mount lenses and a DSLR, the performance is not £2000 better.

      @@seancameronphotographic3740 I'm hoping that the Z 200-600mm on the road map is going to be affordable like the 200-500 f/5.6. The eye focus and focus tracking is the reason I will be switching to the Z’s. I’m trying to figure out how to buy the z9 as the high fps and better higher useable iso, compared to D850 are needed in my world. I shoot single point auto focus 95% of the time. But when it comes to action or portraits I do the auto area with eye tracking (I have a hard enough time keeping an eye on the composition and the camera level - and a poor job at that as it is) gets the nod. Distressingly I'm finding the Z6II is about as good as my Z7 for landscape (at the sizes I print, nothing large) so a Z7II is out of the question. Not sure if it will fit your use case, but the new 105mm macro is a killer lens. She's a keeper.

      I think I've got so used to using either single point focus or Dynamic 9 points with the DSLR, that I've only recently started to notice and test with the Z series. I must say I've become quite reliant on it with portraits for the very reasons you say.
      I'm going to test the 3d and face tracking with the D5 at some point. That may be interesting.

      I really like the D850 and have used it for studio etc frequently. One the reasons I have swapped it for the Z7ii that I didn't mention, is the ease that I can tether it to a screen so the client can see what I'm shooting.

    A very relaxed review / comparison / personal view of those cameras. Especially about the FTZ adapter. Good to know that you can upgrade step by step and not have to buy into a new ecosystem at once. If that was the case, why not switch completely to another brand (Fuji GFX for example would be an interesting option, but also the X-T4).
    Sure, the new glass will be better. That's why they made the choice to change the mount.
    Also, it will be interesting to see what is going to happen in the market of used cameras and lenses. Prices might drop and a D850 body might suddenly be still an interesting buy for the small(er) budgets.

      @@seancameronphotographic3740 No worries at all - we all are looing for something different in a camera and that is the beauty of the art of photography and how we present what we shoot. I can say that I have been blown away by Canon so far for what I do mostly - birding. In the back of my head, I keep hope alive that Nikon will come out with something amazing. I am selling most of my Nikon stuff, but not my long primes. I will hold on to those to keep my hope alive!! 🤗

      Hi Dale, I'm not sure what happened to you comment but in reply, I was designing a new trade stand and my logo wouldn't stand out enough. My first idea was to do a black circle but it wasn't very sharp looking so I though a diamond would look better. It wasn't until we put it up at a show that I saw the Jacobs Cracker connection. Now I'm known on the circuit as "the cracker man" :)

    Very interesting video. I have given up trying to photograph anything in actual flight with my z6 ii. Yes you did good when the birds actually start the flight but I expected my z6 ii to be better than my D500 and was very disappointed. I truly regret buying it and am looking to trade it now. I see some are already on the second hand market so I am not alone. Great for portrait and landscape I totally agree. I reckon the Cannon will really open your eyes. I do feel Nikon have sold us a bit of a pup with these z cameras. The auto focus I feel should do what the D500 did with regard to tracking moving subjects at least or better. Cannon and Sony can track bif so why can't Nikon. I suppose if you look at the market share of the camera manufacturers that perhaps is a guide as to why Nikon seems to have rushed out these current z cameras to try and stop current nikon owners moving brands. The fabled Z9 has a burden on its shoulders like no other Nikon before it in my view. If that is not equal to or better than the A1 or R6 then Nikon are basically done as a major force I think. I will not be able to afford a Z9 anyway so it is not an issue for me. Having 13% of the market against Sony and Cannon who have some 30/40% each really puts it into focus. Sorry for such a long rant.

      Don't apologise Edward, I think most Nikon users are worried about the Z9. I've been quite vocal about the D6 and what a disappointment it was after all the hype. I was about to put my name down for one until I saw the final specs compared to my D5.
      I'm hugely aware that Canon and Sony have produce some stunning cameras and Nikon is playing catch up, but don't give up on them. The Z series take some getting used to after DSLRs and I felt the same way about the Z6 when I first got it (mainly for it's video capabilities) but I'm quite impressed with the Z6ii and have even used it for Dog Agility. As I've said before, I'm a bit old school and have only trusted single point focus or Dynamic 9 before so my expectation of the tracking bar was pretty low. I've done a tracking test with various cameras and I think the results are going to be unpopular. But that's for another day :)

      @Edward Walker, If you check acclaimed wildlife Morten Hilmer's channel here on youtube, you will see he is perfactly happy with his Z6 & Z6 II. He has clearly taken the time to learn how to get the best out of these cameras. While the Nikon Z's are not as capable as Canon & Sony offerings, they are nowhere near as bad as some people are making out. There is also a firmware update due next month for the Z6 & 7 II so that should hopefully improve things further.

      @@seancameronphotographic3740 Yes I am one of those concerned about the Z9. Nikon is not ready. They should have introduced a. Z8 with the technology and wait for the next olympics. Canon is waiting and they do have amazing autofocus technology. The D6 was an unnecessary failure. I understand that the AF is simply fantastic, but very few are going to test it with the sensor with a dynamic range that is worse than the D4. If they have but a good. 24 pixel modern sensor on it, an video like the. D780 people with look into it. If the AF is as good as what many people are saying. (for a DSLR) that will be a compelling camera for some people.

      I've said for a while now, had Nikon called the D6 the D5s and had they not promised so much that they had to withdraw it, in the couple of weeks before presenting it to the world, then they might have got away with it. It was a major let down at a time they least needed it for their reputation. Their last big flagship success was the D4s unfortunately.
      I do believe in Nikon and I truly believe that the Z6ii and Z7ii are really good cameras capable of great shots and stunning video. However, if Nikon are going to replace the pro DSLR's with the Z9, then it has to be bombproof technologically and at least equal to what the D6s / D7 would have been, otherwise it serves no purpose other than losing pro and public support. Equally, I'm not sure where they would position a Z8 in the line up. The Z6ii and Z7ii have powerful engines, a really good firmware update could get them a lot closer to their rivals.
