Hi Sean I am going on safari next year and i have the nikon z 100-400 and am wondering if adding a 1.4 teleconverter would be good enough thought about the 180-600 but seems like redundancy any thoughts?

I have been pulling my hair out doing this comparison!! I just took my D4s out of my bag and replaced it with the Z9. man have I been eaten alive on the DPreview forms about this comparison. although the camera is faster and autofocus is out of this world, iso definitely failed to impress me. I’m hoping they fix this issue with the Z9h

Great review. Been using DJI Osmo 4 for a few years to video my kids Rugby games. Don't often use the tracking and it certainly can't track at speed. My lads just started out with a Canon EOS 750D, unfortunate one of the lenses that came with it is defective but he still managed some great shots at RIAT over the weekend!

I've been digging around youtube for a bit looking up stuff on the d2h and d2x. I was wondering how big is the difference between the d2h and d2x. I picked up a d2h for 50$ and I'm kinda jealous about the d2x and the quality upgrade it may provide.

Nikon shouldn't abandon DSLR users. They've stopped designing new lenses for DSLR. Very sad. I never loved Nikon. And now they want me to buy 15 grand in new mirrorless camera and lenses? There's mirrors in life, baby. Mama don't take my mirror away a hey .. . . also, 24 isn't wide enough. And it isn't internal focusing, the dslr version. I need a 20 to 50. at 70, I start using the 70-200 e FL.

Both lenses look sharp but the Bokeh on the 300 f2.8 is far better, must admit I was the same as you Primes only for wildlife but the 180-600 has changed my mind

Yes! Ive been waiting for this video from you. I was especially hoping you would chat about it related to dog sports. Its not fast enough for indoor shoots, but what about outdoors? Would love to hear your thoughts! Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be many dog sport photographers on youtube, but there are tons of birders.

I love my 180-600 on my Z8

I'll still use the 600 f4 but the 180-600 is great on a second body for the unexpected .. 🦘

I've owned my 180 - 600 for several months and have been very pleased with it. I was always impressed with my 200 to 500 f mount zoom but the newer Z mount offering pretty much improves on it in every metric. Probably the best bang for your buck, it seems Nikon made this something of a loss leader in the same way the 200 to 500 was.

Bugger. I have the F mount 200-500 and it looks like it needs to be upgraded to the 180-600 z. Dang! LOL

Have you considered making your videos at 24 FPS? The reason I ask is that I watch RUclips on my TV with a Roku. I like to watch at fast speed and when I do your video drops down to 360p quality . So I usually end up not watching. I notice that 24p video plays just fine at faster speeds. Thanks.

The G lens certainly holds up. What’s great about that lens is it’s compatible with the F6 for those film shooters

I don’t understand why anyone needs AF and VR on a studio portrait lens but whatever floats the boat. You’ve dove into the Z pool already so the question is do you plan to keep running F mount? I’m running F, Sony FE, and Leica M mount cameras. ALL OF THEM can use the original 24-70mm G lens (non VR) and the AF isn’t something I use for portraits. Any colour differences you see can be eliminated by doing a custom white balance with a grey card. Blown highlights are caused by incorrect exposure. Maybe rethink the premise of this comparison. I can’t adapt the Z lens to any other system without adding glass correction and the IQ degradation that leads to. No secret for me the original G is the keeper.

I have both the Z 1.4x and 2.0x that I use on my Z 70-200/2.8 and yes they both are awesome.

You touched on it a bit: going from F to Z I suspect things like auto focus speed and weight may factor in more for many shooters. Also; there are times when you simply don't want the weight of two large lenses so a TC makes more sense. I have the Z TC1.4 and rarely use it. I've considered upgrading to the new Z 180-600, but I have the F mount 200-500 and dang, it still does yeoman work. Not sure (other than the addition reach) if the image quality is large enough to justify the upgrade.

Hi Sean question, since you had the z6 which had the same sensor as the z6ii and the z8/9 which has the same sensor so can you tell me if the z8/9 captures more detail than the z6ii or and potentially the z6iii and if so would that be because the z8/9 has no pass filter, or more mp or... thx

Great video - I've often wondered myself what the difference is between all the Rode Lavalier mics because there are so many of them. I have the Rode Lavalier Go and it seems to sound slightly richer than the others 👍🏻. The Boya is a bit of an eye opener though, for its price it kicks a**e. If you wanted the flexibility of a Lavalier on a budget that'd be a great choice. The camera pre-amps test was really interesting. You're right, the Z8's pre-amp is awful. - whereas the Zoom is the clear winner. And it has the advantage that it'll be consistent no matter which camera you use.

Agreed, of the Rodes the second one sounded best to me but overall they all sounded similar. The warmer Sony sounded the best to my ears although I should add I was listening via the speakers in my Sony Xperia 1V cellphone rather than headphones. 🙂

Z9 is just too perfect for me but the shutter sound is like shit. It would be great if Nikon is going to add new shutter sounds for Z9

The weight is very good but the extended lens for a $2700 lens is an issue it actually cheapens the lens.

Just as carpenters need multiple tools, so do photographers. Honestly, it is part of the fun of photography.

This is great video. Really helped me to set my mind. I recently purchased F6 and as an owner of Z8, the VR lens will be great for portraiture!

I added the Wimberly Tripod attachment plate to the handle adding 5 inches of area to grip and for tripod

Both lenses are excellent but for me in a side by side the separation at f4.5 is significant v f5.6 (in ,y testing).

Just got mine today. First impressions are quite good. I have jobs coming next week where I'll need long range. I will put it to the test. But so far so good. Image quality is good. Sharp enough. The colors do look a bit dull but a bit editing will do. I am really enjoying the weight as I use a z6. Feels good in the hand.

really good video,i got a d1x around 2015 and still have it,does take some lovely pics i thought but i just leave a 50mm on it ive got a 1gb cf card in it,bought a dtse battery off amazon for it like £24ish...have bought a d2x and d3 and d800e since then,theres some nice older cameras out there at good prices..

Actually there is no need for a test, purely mathematically the D4/D5/D6 are ahead in terms of noise behavior
