Thanks for the video 👍🏻 - it’s great to see lenses like this used in real world applications. It gives you much more confidence to spend the money.

The 100-400 HAS replaced my other lenses for agility. Even under the "tent" at West World. Now typically I shoot at 1/1200 sec, maybe push to 1/1600 for a couple of the totally wacko BC's. With your experience I think I need to explore the 1/2000th option. I ordered the Z8 and plan on putting a different lens on it to back up the Z9 - we'll see if it's worth the hassle.
The Worlds! Congratulations! Best I've done is the NADAC "nationals" when the local club holds a big event when the national event is held back east (every other year).
Outside that, I still use the 105mm macro lens, followed by the Sigma ART 105 f/1.4. Otherwise, the 100-400 lives on the Z9. I could glue it on. :D

Maybe Nikon give you a long term loan of the z400mmf2.8 lens 😉 and be interesting to see how that performed indoors under lights plus outdoors against your current lens selection.

I can see that you have great taste, I'm must admit to being a bit of a Tommy Karevik fan (my favourite album is Haven)

Thanks for the video. I shoot mostly dog conformation, although my dog performance friends appreciate that I've been trying to learn how to do Rally and Agility. I have both the Z9 and just shot my first dog show weekend with my new Z8. A month ago, I took over 40,000 images in six days at a National Specialty for a breed here in the States with my Z9 and Z7ii. That experience took place on Nikon Z8 introduction day and I put in my preorder that day because of the joy of shooting dog movement with the Z9 versus the Z7ii. My question to you is, "Do you have a video on RUclips that covers what focus settings you utilize in Agility? I've listened to several of your videos, but just subscribed today because we are doing somewhat similar things with our photography and I think I could learn a lot from you. By the way, the Z 100-400 in next on my purchase list for my lens fix. For conformation indoors, I've taken to using both my Z 70-200 f2.8 and alternate my second camera with either the Z 24-120mm f4 (especially to capture wide angle shots) and strangely enough the Z 105mm f2.8 S Macro lens (especially in low light). I love the 105 for its way of rendering an image and the autofocus works quite well with it.

Hello Sean, Good question and the Strat answer is NO, but it will make some redundent and if you get the 1.4 TXz then it just about replaces both my 300mm pf and 500mm pf lenses both very good bits of glass, again the Z lenses are amazingly good on my Z9 and I wait to see if they are on my Z8 when it comes. If fact I just sold 3 out of 4 of my F mount cameras and now only have about 6 F mount lenses left. Did ok aswel Now mrrorless cameras for me. Keep well keep safe and good to see you back.

It's certainly a good lens, but there's a little bit of me thinking that I'd kick myself if something happened and I'd left my other lenses at home. I think you're right, mirrorless is now the way to go, can't wait to try the Z8

    Hi Sean,
According to you you take most pictures in the range 100-250 on the 100-400. I was wondering whether the 70-200 f/2.8 coupled with a TC-1.4 might not be a better alternative then?

Hi Michael, I may not have explained myself very well. I said that my indoor shots were between 130mm and 190mm, that was partly because I was mainly using the 70-200 and partly because it was a little smaller and there was more in the way. Outside, where the obsticles were spread about more, I used up to 400mm, in fact the picture at 2:16 is a 400mm one.

A great lens but I've found the 400 f4.5 and the 70-200 on the other body would suit my needs better ... 🦘

I can understand that, I'm guessing that's the Z400 f4.5 Roy? Really want to test one but they seem quite hard to get hold of.
