Advice from DJI is don't fly with the plastic cover fitted in any conditions, there is potential for it to fall as it does become loose with fitting/removing, you wouldn't want to lose it.
Colin.......good video but re the tip about using your ipad..........you missed the mark on this one. Yes, you showed connecting the ipad usb into the bottom of the controller but what you have not realised yet is that the two phone holder arms have slots in them. Just remove the phone connector cable and the ipad slides into the arms thru the two slots cut in the top of both arms. That simple!!!!!!!!! Works a treat,,,,,,,,and this is why the slots are there!
I'm not sure what you are saying here. The ipad is too wide to fit between the arms (unless you have a mini) Maybe you are saying something I haven't thought of, Id love to know, do you have a picture of it installed?

Yes, an iPad mini will fit into the holder, all you do is pop out the plastic sliding piece on the left hand holder then slip the top two corners of the iPad mini into the two slots and the rubber grips on very well, then you plug into the bottom usb.
Nice video. I noticed that the horizon appears to be tilted in several scenes. Others have mentioned this issue as well. Have you noticed it and have you been able to correct it?
TheWallyDad - yep, this part of Mavic ownership. Doesn't happen every flight but like my P4 it sometimes hangs its horizons tilted, very very frustrating....
I have a cheap Chinese handheld gimbal for my smartphone that cost about £120... it's solid and doesn't ever do this - but it seems to me that DJI has a design issue in its gimbal design. I've seen references online to the earlier P3 doing just the same thing. No comment from DJI however - I wonder why? But suspect it's so deep in their coding that they have no cure for it so treat the issue by - ignoring it. Politicians do it all the time successfully so why not technology sellers?
Your footage is amazing. The Phantom 4 was great however, the Mavic takes it to another level.

You can also use the slots in the fold down arms on the controller to hold a tablet. Corners of tablet fits in slots

Another tip, if I may share....I believe the cable that is in the remote is for Apple products, however if you remove that cable, you can then slide an ipad mini that fits perfectly in the slot where the phone would normally be., and you'd just plug it into the very bottom port directly below the remote screen. Hope that makes sense !!

Yes you can fit an iPad mini into the controller, the corner of the iPad fits into the gaps in the holders for the iPhone on the controller.!!!! great Video by the way, !!

P.S. in case you're wondering, I specifically liked that you showed how you use the drone as a handheld camera, I really find having a gimbal to be very useful in any situation when you want to record a video.

I have tested with the dome cover on and you get reflection of the spinning props from the inside. Basically you can't film with the cover on. Too much reflection. I think the DJI documentation even says not to film with the cover on for the best quality.

raw files are larger so you need more leeway to prevent the buffer from filling up, hence the minimum ten seconds. JPEGs files are smaller so a 2s exposure is possible without filling up buffer.

You can put the Ipad corners through the two slits in the handles and it works in the controller btw ;)

I hope in a new version just in this year, even is very very difficult because DJI have a lot of order of the first.
But this is my Mavic Pro 2 configuration:
-Sensors Collision on the 5-way
-quality Room equal to 4 phantom pro:
20mp, 100mbps bitrate, sensor 1 inch, 4K 60fps, mechanical shutter, H264, H265.
-Focus manual or automatic
-The Improvement of the weaknesses of the drone, as the material of the arms.
-Duration Battery 30 minutes instead of 27.
-Gimball Detachable and mountable on a stand apart as the karma.
Here it is. Unfortunately the detachable Gimball is a risk to the market of Osmo, so I do not think there will be, but with a drone with these specifics, we are all very happy for many years.

IF... the Mavic has GPS issues while in flight can it be switched to a manual flight mode to prevent fly a ways and or prevent crashing?
yes, it works in VPS and also in ATTI
So it does have atti mode?

2:15 If using it as handled gimbal, be aware of that the mavic gets VERY hot and when it's not flying circuits could be damaged from the heat. Not recommended to keep it on if not flying. Just a tip.
if you don't do it for prolonged periods of time, its no big deal, otherwise DJI wouldn't allow you to calibrate the IMU which requires it being on and not flying

thanks for giving an awesome hint regarding using it as a hand held stabilised camera. that means that last advantage of gopro karma is gone.
menthal There's a big difference between holding a drone in your hand and an phone in the other to control the camera and having a tiny GoPro mounted to your chest etc.
jamalbarc gopro or any other action cam, mounted to your chest is not stabilised. Equivalent would be gopro gimbal, which is similar size to mavic. AFAIK you don't need to use controls on the mobile for the drone to look straight ahead and still give stabilised footage.
OK, Colin, you just removed a big obstacle regarding possibly adding the Magic to my bag of tricks. I had wondered about using my ipad. I have the Go app on it for my Inspire. If I don't have to go out and get an iPhone, I may well get this little guy. Thanks for the info! Awesome shots by the way!
You can also use an Android phone such as the Samsung S7
Really liked this video especially that beautiful panorama picture. I feel like you should buy a landing pad though I wouldn't want to land my mavic in sand even if it was wet sand; I have a great collapsible landing pad that is ultra portable and always gives me a great spot to take off and land on that doesn't damage camera or the drone itself. Again, great video really liked it.

MANUAL FOCUS on MAVIC
From the DJI Mavic FAQ page, it appears there is a manual focus mode (not tap-to-focus) with a focusing slide bar, but I haven't seen any mention of it in reviews or from people who have received their drones. Do you know if this is actually a working feature on the Mavic? If you've used it, what's your experience with it?
FAQ QUOTE:
"2. When shooting in manual focus mode, my shots are blurred even when moving the slider all the way to infinite focus. Why?
The focus range of the Mavic is 0.5m to infinite. Slide along the bar until you reach a focus point. Sliding straight to infinite focus does not guarantee sharp focus."

You can also put the tablet into the dock where you'd put the mobile normally. That's why there's two slots. Need to remove side usb connection first.

Great review. Question for you. I sometimes launch my Phantom 3P by hand, and/or recover by hand when the landing area is rough. It looks to me like that could be risky with the Mavic. What do you think?

I know it would pain someone as advanced as you but there are those of us who purchased these for both business (Inspecting roofs too high to climb) and leisure but when you show all the cool things one can do but forget to show how you got to and maneuver through those areas it's well.. :/.. great info though once I get that far.
