I'm glad you could get past your bias ;) The video quality of glass sucks, but its the only camera I can wear on my head that sees what I see. My next video is much better quality, no glass ;) lol

Thanks for the NOT doing an Unboxing! Anyone that is waiting on their own Mavic already knows whats in the box. Thanks for showing the screen functions and the ease that they are able to be used. Same goes for a few of the modes. I myself can see me using the "Point Of Interest" mode quite often when shooting out over the water from customers yachts.

Awesome job on this review. I like how you showed the screen (on a iPad?) and went feature by feature. I'm currently learning as I use a more moderately priced GPS quad with video but my plan it to step up to a DJI Mavic Pro after I get more experience. Thumbs up!
Doug Ales the good thing is that there are so many great features packed in the mavic that you will be flying it in no time. Good thinking. Get practice flying first.

Tim Ewert I'm using the approach you are describing. I'm learning with a mid-price GPS camera drone. I've crashed more times then I care to admit. So far, no serious damage to my quad beyond broken propellers. I'm learning with a Hubsan H501 then, once I feel I'm ready, I plan on getting a DJI Mavic Pro.

Thanks for the review. Wouldn't it make more sense to sort out all your settings (ballpark 'em) before you fly/hover 1. to save valuable battery life 2. to focus on the actual settings ? At least until your super familiar with a new drone. Your demo seems to skip through steps that deserve more attention, especially for those folks that might not be familiar with this particular drone's operation. Yes, it has similarities to other drones but not everything is the same.

I'm selling my one month old Phantom 4 for this Mavic one simply because of the huge size difference, it's way more portable. I wouldn't have to go out with a big heavy backpack, which for me is a very big deal as I found I had to plan where I was taking the Phantom 4 since its so much bigger with its remote too. At first I was hesitant to switch to the Mavic here but after seeing a couple of videos including this one, I've made up my mind and will be having this drone in my hands very soon, the sooner the better.
The image quality on the Mavic is almost as good as the P4. I probably wont be using my P4 much anymore.

Good review, one thing, I noticed that when you did your calibration you turned clockwise, Dji recommends the correct way is anticlockwise and if you look at the screen it does show you in the diagram, just wondering if if you have any problems with compass that may be the cause. Just a thought. Again great review.

I am not sure if anyone's noticed, because I've been watching a lot of videos about DJI's Mavic Pro, this is by far the best video as far as reviewing a product from a perspective of a first time user or for folks like me who will be owning a future mavic pro who's never flown a drone in their entire life. I like how you showed what the screen shows on your phone, I liked how you played around with the different modes, 2 thumbs up! I am definitely going to get this instead of the Gopro Karma!
As a follow up question, does anybody know if the Mavic Pro can take pictures and shoot videos of the same time? Just like the mode on a Gopro where you can shoot videos and do time lapse photos at the same time? Thanks in advance!
no, you can't. You can pull still frames from video though, not as good as native photos, but better than nothing

At 15:08 there is a slight jump on the Mavic video. I have seen this in other reviews also, and they have said it's if you're flying fast, but I can't tell if you slowed it down..
Did you notice those glitches happening much on your footage?
I noticed this also and have the same question.
Im updating the firmware right now and Im going to take it our for a shooting test today. I didn't notice it, but then again, it was my first flight.
Im not sure if its a glitch on the footage, ot the way the copter flies, if you punch it, it is very responsive. Tripod mode should fix it
How fast were you flying at 15.08, if you remember?
Since this has been pointed out by other reviewers, it would be enough for me to hold off buying

I am a complete novice with a drone. My wife has bought me a RED5 FX-145 which I intend to teach me the basics, but I will be looking for a better drone soon. You have flown the Mavic Pro and the Phantom - can you steer me to the most appropriate? At the moment, the Mavic Pro looks good, purely for its ability to collapse into a small size

Can you try using the Camera/Gimbal with the Mavic all folded up? I'm trying to justify buying one of these and no one else has tried this or shown this from the videos I've watched.

How much flight time did you get before the 30% beeping of your transmitter? I'm trying to establish how much flight time the mavic pro has as opposed to the Phantom 4.

Yes, as in a Discovery Flight in a Cessna or something (your first flight). But it's always a little kid that might "discover" that flying is in their future. hehe. I still learned several things from your video since you read the manual & provided accurate info - thanks!

Nice Review. You didn't mention the settings used for the Mavic vs. P4 comparison. Are you sure you hae everything identical, contrast, sharpness, etc? It appeared you had the Mavic set to Vivid and the P4 wasn't. Just curious is you double checked to match all settings. Nice job!
both were on standard default which I think is "none" Not really a hard core vs video though, Ill do one of them later

Don't forget to tap the screen to choose the point of focus. This is unlike other phantoms that are set on infinity focus.
What about for the large field view, is it required or just for closer up things?
you should focus the camera on each flight, otherwise you'll end up with soft footage like Casey Neistat did

Trying to pick your accent, where are you from?
How long were you able to fly? (Assuming you have made edits in this 15 min video) Also, what kind of camera is that you have on your glasses? Which (simple) video editing software would you recommend?
if you look at the diagram on the iPhone you need to calibrate it on its side not pointing downwards
diagram must be wrong, this is how we have always calibrated DJI copters, you need X and Y axis

Colin, this is The BEST overall review I have seen to date on the MAVIC PRO. Please keep in mind this man is not a "new or beginner" drone pilot, he has previous experience. That being said, I HIGHLY recommend, actually READING, UNDERSTANDING & FOLLOWING the instructions to the letter.These are NOT TOYS and in the U.S.A. they MUST have a FAA registration number on them! I've read that you can fly the Mavic with the remote, without having a iPhone or Android smartphone connected.
I haven't tried that yet, I also haven't tried just smart phone control without the controller

how do you turn off the motor when you catch Landed It? I fucked up my finger pretty bad not realizing that obstacle avoidance would send it upwards but even as I held on I couldn't figure out how to turn off the propellers. pause button did nothing

yes, its my old phone and only used for flying, so Im not worried about the pin, there is nothing exciting on that phone
