The fact this watch splits opinion so much underlines the point - it's individual, purposeful, therefore not for everyone.
Having collected for 30 years, and this being the cheapest in my collection by a long way, say this: It's fantastic; love it!
Unlike so many watches that have seemingly been become compromised in all but potential profitability and 'flexing', my 'FXD' does 'exactly what it says on the tin'. Even as a 'MN21' it's been de-stickered and enjoyed everyday. That makes this watch a success in my humble opinion.

Aside from the extremely high quality of this watch , the real genius is in the bezel as a redundant navigational system while conducting combat missions subsurface. Once you understand how the bezel actually works , one thinks , why hasn't anyone put this exact package together before this . as a former combat diver , originally issued a Tudor Submariner, I bought the FXD and absolutely love this watch . Can't wait to actually djve with it . Interesting review. thanx

Ironically, the Sinn 104 (a pilot watch) have the same setup and water resistance, just the countdown bezel is not lumed. It is vet practical for an everyday watch.

0 of 100 will use it as a combat mission tool, or a diver tool. there are plenty of computer and analog things that will let you to do the job easier, cheaper and more reliably. This is just a good expensive watch, nothing more

The solid bars make a lot of sense. The NATO strap was invented to keep a soldier's watch on the man even if a springbar fails. It would dangle around but a mission based on certain timings could be completed. Imagine the watch dangling from your wrist while trying to navigate under water. There's no room for failure! Hence the solid bars are only logical and because the piece is military themed, ther's no other option.
Thanks for the informative video, it really stands out against all the hipe-vids.

    • @wayneholmes637
      @wayneholmes637 3 месяца назад

NATO straps were not invented to rescue watches from springbar failures. The simple proof of that being that the watches that NATO straps were designed for NEVER had springbars. NATO straps were made to near 100% guard against a dive watch being caught on something and lost during a dive. Remembering that bracelets have over a dozen points of failure but a genuine NATO on a fixed bar watch has only one point of failure - the buckle pin that you fasten the strap with.

I think it’s pretty important to point out that it’s not as niche as it seems. Because it is used for underwater navigation, it can also be used for land and sea. Tudor notes this, but I think the water part was hammered a bit too much. It’s actually a great survival tool of all the batteries run out. Essentially, it has a stronger use case than is actually marketed.

Nice review Adrian, very thorough. I really like the solid bars for security. My LHD normally has a crafter blue strap, or a rubber b sink or swim, vital to allow me to loop it onto either my harness or rucsac when climbing, but the security of this design really appeals to me, bars can break..... But truth be told, I love my LHD and I continually swap straps/bracelets.
Both the MN and LHD are equally effective for timing rehydration of wilderness rations and of course pizza at home, a benefit often overlooked in dive watches.

I was the first in town to put my name on the list, literally during the press release, before anyone me included knew anything about the MN21 thing. The AD said: “you’re the first, you’ll get the call as soon as we get it”. After two weeks I get the call:”hello sir, you can come and try it, but unfortunately we have decided not to sell this MN21 piece, to keep it in the AD collection”.
Note that I bought 3 BB58 and a P01 within two years from them, and put my name down on 3 Rolex (2 OP, 1 Explorer).
I guess I’ll have to wait until I find a MN21 used, not going to buy anything from them anymore.

Aside from being too large for me, I’m a fan of this watch. Some say Tudor disappointed watch enthusiasts by including a bunch of common “dealbreakers:” Fixed strap bars, a busy bidirectional countdown bezel, & downgraded WR, etc…
Personally, I think by being relatively faithful to the service version, Tudor challenged watch enthusiasts, and now they are starting to accept the FXD for what it is. It just proves that Tudor doesn’t “settle” and can still push the comfort zone of its audience.

    • @joshuagutierrez335

Yup! It's purpose-built. If you don't like it, you don't have to buy it. Tudor couldn't care less. They didn't make this watch for you. They have plenty of other models that would probably suit you better. I happen to like the Pelagos FXD quite a bit! 😀

Used to own an LHD which I love. However I moved it on because I wanted the Submariner down the line. As soon as my AD indicated I may be able to secure an allocation for the non date Sub, I sold the LHD on.
Got the Submariner 124060 in mid Oct so glad to have got it from my AD. Then my AD offered me a MN21 FXD three weeks later and any regret I may have had letting the LHD go disappeared- love the FXD for the thinner case and fixed bars.
Despite no bracelet, I’m happy to wear this with a NATO. If l need a watch with a bracelet, l’ve got the Sub anyway 😎

My LHD Pelagos can have a well earned rest for a while as the FXD will take over “Every Day Wear” duties. For my line of work (construction industry), the rubber strap will take precedence as it’ll be less likely to attract dust and grit.

5:14 if the bezel is really used for that purpose. I feel that the bezel really needs a locking system so it can't be accidently moved. a unidirectional bezel has some guard against movement in one direction, if it moves then it woves in the direction which shortens your dive (safer). A bi-direction bezel feels so much insafe and I wonder if it's easy to move the bezerl. I know that a lot of dive bezels rotate easier above the water than below the water.

I’m not sure that a dive team would use one, it’s cheaper to buy a watch type dive computer like the Shearwater Teric, this would show you time (using both your dive time and/or stopwatch and would also use the inbuilt digital compass and costs a third of this watch. I think Tudor might be bigging their part up a bit, I’d still like one though just because it has my initials on the case back :-)

The FXD release made me a first-time Tudor owner over the BB58 and other Pelagos models. No date, muted blue, countdown bezel is more useful for me as a non-diver, the fully-graduated bezel is more balanced, and the fixed spring bars harkens back to the old mil-spec divers. Month and a half in, it has rarely left my wrist.
Keep up the great videos, it's good to have you back.

Never understood why there aren’t more countdown style bezels on divers; nor why so few offer a no date option.

Tea - love it. and, any chance you will do 2 piece nato style straps?

ordered it from their boutique yesterday and really looking forward to the call, (whenever that happens!) cant believe though that Tudor are now playing the same waiting games as Rolex!

i ordered one, can't wait for fit! Not sure if it's going to be the 21 or 22 model.

There are bound to be more of these. Provided you don't need year 1 with MN21 on the back, don't buy into and feed the hype. There will be more and become easier to find. It's a pretty niche design anyways and the fact it cannot sport a bracelet option will be a major turn off for most buyers... Especially if they are also the types that don't like NATO straps, also.
I get coolness of the singular purpose driven design of the FXD. But, I wouldn't mind if they develop these into more options down the line. Keep the FXD design. But, maybe further differentiate with a more civilian friendly version has spring bar options and a matching bracelet.
Will that kill the current 500m Pelagos? No, I don't think it should. That could still be the heavy duty dive tool watch. But, for those who want a trimmed down version with a more than sufficient 200m WR such as the FXD, but without the FXD case/lugs, I think giving the options of choice would be good.

Milk before you take the teabag out is incredibly distressing. Great video as ever, love the channel.

Picked up MN21 on second week of December together with the new 36mm Rolex explorer 124270. Surprisingly the FXD got more wrist time than the explorer from me 😂

I love it... just there's many watches that I want to by before it, even from Tudor. The regular black bezel pelagos being one of them.

But we know you really like the original Pelagos so which one would you choose??
I have the LHD and don’t think I would swap it for the FXD 👍
LHD for everyday and 925 for Sunday best 😉

Thanks to the release of this watch I bought a Sinn 104: 200m water resistance; display case back; count down bezel; 41mm; available on bracelet; less than half the price of the FXD. Apart from the movement, it's a superior watch for the everyday wearer.

I mean the Sinn is a great watch, however not comparable to the FXD there very different and in honesty the FXD is far superior hence the increase cost.

please do a review/video of history and info on the JLC Sector Dial of the Master Control. I think it is the classiest "simple watch" I've seen under $10,000 and I can't find any online. Thanks. love you stuff.

There are some rumors that the FXD is being discontinued after 2023, have you seen any indications or heard anything through your contacts about this?

I live in an area where it wouldn’t be easy to try one on, even if I did travel they might not be available, wondering how these would fit on a 6.5” wrist? It’s a large watch but it seems like it wears well despite the lug to lug
