    I had a rustler in the late 90’s. Saved my birthday money to buy it. I don’t remember it being that slow haha. I haven’t had an rc car since then but just got a 124018 a few weeks ago. I was giddy like a kid driving it the first time. Light years better than what we had back then. Love the content.

    When I got back into the hobby a few years ago,I dug my stampede out of the closet, I had bought it about 18 years ago and it had the same electronics in it. Just about a month ago I finally put in a brushless system and a dumbo transmitter and reciever. It was good to get used to driving rc cars again because it wasn't too fast and it was plenty tough,it survived my horrible driving till I got used to it again lol. Its now one of my faster rc cars with the new motor. I don't know how long the gear box will last but I will have fun with it till I strip the gears. Thanks for another great video, its always a good day when I wake up and see a new video

    When I worked at a hobbyshop back in the early 2000's we used to sell these things like hot cakes. They always sold well. The Rustler and Bandit sold really well the Stampede not so much.

    When we were kids, I had the Rustler and my Brother Had the Bandit. Bandit was much faster b/c of the lighter weight. I was envious...until he smashed the front end off. The Rustler was much toughter.
    To this day, I will swear by 2wd stadium trucks. I know many other people have moved on, but a Rustler, an Associated RC10, a Losi Mini-T, or an HPI Jumpshot, still bring a huge smile to my face. You can still do ANYTHING with those designs.
    And the better materials and electronics make it even better. Great vid!

    Nice vid my man. Sineads husband here. I am the proud owner of 4 bandits. I put some brushless kit in and have had a lot of fun. You can change the bandit in a rustler by buying two body shell braces and the shell. The quick one of the four is faster on 3s than my vorza on 6. It’s hilarious fun and that’s what the hobby is all about. Great uploads keep going.👏👏

    Nice old Bandit. I bought a Bandit about 15 years ago and when I got it I put it under the bed for 10 years. It runs pretty slow and had a similar controller to your one, although it was 2.4mgh, but still an old ni-cad battery. Thanks Phil.

    I like these old vintage models. Would be fun to see more of this.
    How things (not) changed in 20 years...
    Imagine any real car manufacturer would do this... 20 year old base but it's sold as a new car. Impossible. But in RC-Scale this is nothing new. Almost every big brand does this.
    Keep it up, Tomley. Nice job.

    Back then I was always into nitro because they was so much faster than the electric, I remember saving up for months on end to get a thunder tiger scooby. It is nuts to see how far electric rc has come I don't think I'd ever go out and buy a nitro now unless it was something very special If I seen a Schumacher rascal I'd buy it in a heart beat but other than that electric all the way! Great video bud

      You aren't kidding. I have a small stable of tmaxxes and I was around for the tail end of nitro glory days. Then brushless kinda took over.
      I still enjoy my nitro stuff since it was always a dream of mine. Normies still think they're cool lol. I have a 3.3 4908 I bought new (the only new nitro I've ever bought) and I'd put it up against an electric in terms of ease of use. That thing is dead reliable. Swear it would idle an entire tank and never stalls.

    Also I personally adore and would prefer the old Bandit over the new one.
    Thanks for the nice run videos, loved it. I think the speed looks fine though, considering everyone else in the track is running in the same pace 😅

    Pretty cool to see the ole Bandit My first hobby grade was a Rustler 2wd in 99 - 2000 I forget lol The electronics sucked but once I put some good electronics in it that thing would pop the tires. 🤣 Modified brushed motors on a 1/10 scale buggy - truggy is all ya need. That's enough to make it uncontrollable. Making it brushless would be a waist of $$$ imo.

    Back then I was into nitro, and still am. I have tried battery powered, I have a much newer Bandit, the cheap one. But it wouldn't be any fun, no matter how fast it was, well, not much anyway, because there is no noise. The noise is what it's all about, and the actual mechanical internal combustion engine. 27MHz is the CB band. You are actually running that thing on a 20 year old Ni-Cad battery? The Ni-Cad battery in my 20 year old VHS-C camcorder died many years ago. I found a place that can make me a new one, for $200. That's what I paid for the whole camcorder, battery, and charger back then. But there is something about vintage stuff I just love. I'm still using 8 track tapes and have 5 VHS VCRs.

    My god I bought a kit!! and I raced it at York RCCC in Acomb to get me back into the hobby
    it was good too, it held its own to be fair, certainly better than most in the beginner class (stock silver can 540) outdoors it wasn’t that quick but on carpet it was ok lol 😂

    You got to understand within the last 20-15 years technology has evolved rc everything into super super powerful with the introduction of lithium batteries and brushless motors it was an extreme game changer. For the first time electric powered cars planes boats and helicopters out beat gas powered by a huge margin

    Reminds me of the 80s... Which would be what kids of the 2000s.. what they grew up listening to their parents listen to.. now.. it's their turn to like the old time..
    Then probably the kids of the 2020s. Be listening to parents listening to 2000s stuff...
    And on and on we go

    Oh, that'd have the plastic diff and idler with the cheesy steel top gear that wears razor sharp in a few packs if the roll pin it keys to doesn't shear first. At least the modern 272 gears fit in. Nice find though, good times before Traxxas turned into what it is and you could still buy their stuff as build up kits.

    Hi, I am just beginning to get into RC cars and have been doing a lot of research and came across your channel which is fantastic.
    I have heard and read a lot of horror stories on LiPo batteries, correctly storing, using and charging them but I was wondering how you would dispose of any?
    I have just had the wltoys 144001 delivered and have not unboxed it yet (crap weather) and am now worried about the battery!

    • @TomleyRC
      @TomleyRC  2 года назад +1

      I suggest buying a 'lipo' bag, and just charge it with the supplied USB charger snd you'll be good 👌

    • @kevinwhite6176
      @kevinwhite6176 2 года назад

      You can recycle LiPos at places where you'd otherwise recycle a battery. Over here in America I think you're supposed to be able to recycle them at a hobby shop. I have a couple that puffed up that I ought to test that out with... The most important part is to always attend to your battery charging in case something happens, and the second most important is to always balance charge and storage charge them, with third being to charge or store them in something that can contain a fire if it happens (lipo bag, 'batt safe' box, metal ammo can with the gasket removed so it won't become a bomb, etc).

    The same design they used already in 1994 yeah, buggy is nearly as old as me basically, nearly unchanged between 1994 - 2004.
    2005 ? Added the xl-1 esc lol.
    Updating servo too a bit faster one & then the xl-5 esc like 2006 or 2007 together with new designs & the plastics, then came the vxl brushless cars & then the waterproof brushed cars & later tsm & that stuff.
    That mechanical esc is gonna run a 2s lipo fine if you feel like trying it, though might not like too long of a runtime with those resistors so put in like a 2200 mah 2s with a low voltage alarm.
    Specially not if the heatsink loosens up on those resistors like many people had happen back in the day before esc's lol.
