Two things I will probably never stop using: Leave in conditioners and deep conditioner. My hair is very fragile and I live in a harsh environment. I also saw my black trichologists in London and they told me that I can cut out every product, except shampoo, deep conditioner, leave in detangler and leave in conditioner. it's minimalist but it leaves out oils butters, gels, definers, grease, stylers, diys, "treatments". Glycerin and dry air are not a good match also. This is whether the air is dry due to dry climates, low humidity low dew points or dry air from heating or air-conditioning. However, if it works for you, keep doing it as I see no reason to stop if your hair loves it.

Totally understand your reasons. Most of us benefit from conditioners

Water filter put on to your shower head will filter out mineral deposits that build up on the hair causing it to look and feel dry.

@@CarolynForney Where I live the water is very very hard to the point that we have to clean it off every week and I don't want to replace a filter every week. A shampoo is cheaper. Also, it doesn't protect me from the water at the pool, gym and spa that is unfiltered. I can take the shampoo with me to those places. I can't amend the plumbing in those places.🤣..I'm certain that's a breach of user rules. Lol!

@@marleyhill34 When I was a homeowner I installed a whole house water filter and I still used filtered shower heads. Now that I rent I just filtered shower head. I only cook with filtered water and drink bottled. The water from my pipes smell like chlorine and at my previous residence the water at time was brownish and smell like iron. I had to first buy a product to strip the chlorine , lime , calcium deposits and whatever crap was in the water off of my hair and then continue with filtered water. My hair is no longer stiff and dull looking. I can use less conditioner and no longer have to use a heating cap for 30 minutes or how ever long that it’s recommended.

Hi! Your hair is beautiful!!!! I have heard many people talk about the wonderful effects of glycerine. I just wanted to mention that I have heard on the GlamFam channel (I can't remember his actual name) that glycerine is so moisturizing because it attracts or pulls in moisture from wherever the moister is, including the hair. So in other words, if someone lives in a very dry climate, glycerine will pull moister from the hair and actually dry it out. For someone who lives in a humid climate, moisture will be pulled from the air and very effectively moisterize the hair. I just thought I would mention this in case someone finds it helpful. I appreciate you making it very clear that this was an experiment you decided to do for yourself and that you always encourage us to listen to our hair and do what works for our individual hair. Love your videos. They are so helpful 😊

I've liked leaveins for the last few years, but most of my life I never used leavein conditioners at all. I'll likely keep using them since I stretch with heat rather often, but definitely it's extra. No one in my family growing up used leaveins. I don't even know any family that did. But people still had strong, thick hair. Your hair looks wonderful, btw!

Back when i was relaxer stretching, prior to big chopping, I used water to hydrate and then an oil. My hair grew the same way, retained its length. But maybe I should have used castor oil, because the only thing was that the hair didn't feel too soft or "smoothen." I would definitely try the humectant water, i already use glycerin in mine, and castor oil. Leave in and moisturizers help with having a "coating", besides moisturization, for me. Honestly these products aren't that necessary. Lets be real. If you needed the bare minimum, water(whether with humectant) and a sealing oil would be it.

Leaving is drying. Without them, your hair doesn't dry out fast.

@CoilyDiaries Deep conditioners work. I'm low maintenance. The fewer steps, the better. The next day after leaveins, I'm desperately trying to add moisture. Too much work, after the 4th day of deep conditioning wetting, I can go 7 to 10 days, no dryness or rewetting. Just hair creams or curl activation lotions. One flaxseed gelling in between. My type of hair care. It's growing, too.
