@bunkerdenelectrix I am watching "Endless Waltz" right now honestly. It's my X-mukkah tradition.
If you made a drinking game for the series based on that line, or anytime someone says "pacifism," you'd be brickfaced or dead from alcohol poisoning before the end of the first story arc.

@@_GeneralMechanics_ Gundam Wing series and movie is my favorite but I was introduced to it on toonami as a youth. It is really cool thinking about how many aspects of all the metal gear and all the gundam series share. I just thought about how the nanomachines in MGSVTPP are a lot like Turn A Gundams ability that dismantles weapons and machinery

    • @_GeneralMechanics_
      @_GeneralMechanics_ 15 дней назад

@bunkerdenelectrix Wing was my first full length series, but my first exposure to the franchise was a VHS copy of the third film in the original 0079 story, and after that 0083. I've been building Gundam models ever since, and Wing Gundam was the first kit I ever built.
Believe it not, Gundam Wing is the closest to the Patriots' form of nanotech. In the sequel novels "Frozen Teardrop," Relena unleashed a nanomachine virus that prevented people from assassinating her, and enforced her own form of pascifism on Mars. And the only person who could stop her is Heero. Kind of like a certain Snake we all know and kept us waiting.

Thank you for clearly stating these things about MGS4. It always drove me crazy seeing people endlessly complain about so many things that finalized the entire series’ themes so perfectly. MGS4 is such a fantastic ending that I even break the release order rule, playing Peace Walker and the two V games before going to 4, because those later games only serve to further the ideas MGS4 posits.

No one managed to capture just how screwed up the world is more than Hideo Kojima... and in a game series of all things, I mean just look at how the world is turning out to be? It's only a matter of time before we all can see the true scale of it... actually we might not even have to wait more than a year, because I have an awfully weird feeling 2025 is gonna turn out to be a little crazy on it's own, and I do mean in a deja vu kind of way because for some reason in the back of my head the thought of this year always felt like I had seen what all the events leading up to it would be like.

13:50 if we're going by a postmodern reading, this isn't a loss of identity. the protagonist IS the player-- you are both big boss and the medic, both characters are an extention of the player.
if anything Jack (also what BB is called by the Boss) being called Snake at the beginning of MGS2 might have to do with the fact that he's played the role of Snake in VR. The Colonel gives Jack his new name, with the player inserting their own name into his dog tag.
Jack is already dealing with multiple identities from the very start of the game.
the only way that Jack can ever reclaim his identity is by accepting his past and literally discarding the identities that people made for him, freeing himself from the Patriots' (the player's, the director's) control. Jack rejects his role in the story and decides to become his own person outside of the role that he was given.
On the other hand, Venom Snake as an explicit extension of the player-- who's "true" face is chosen by you in the beginning of the game, embraces his role in the story. The moment he does so Venom plays his role until he meets the end that was decided for him by the story itself before he was even an idea.
"He was there for you, and yet at the same time he was inaccessible. You felt there was a secret core in him that could never be penetrated, a mysterious center of hiddenness. To imitate him was somehow to participate in that mystery, but it was also to understand that you could never really know him." -The Locked Room

Playing MGS in a canonical story order makes the less sense...
All the magic of this series comes when you play it in the release order.
Also... (1+2) (3+4) and (PW+V) all pair themselves in many ways. They function together as pairs.
And (2+5) are mirrors of each other.

This year I finally played snake eater and sons of liberty and now I'm obsessed with the lore of these games. I still have to play mgs1 and find a way to play mgs4 but even playing them out of order I'm starting to understand the story of the world of metal gear.

    • @Miyakolover

@@richieowens98 That is cool, personally I wouldn't consider Revengeance canon because it wasn't written by Kojima and I felt that it was a parody of MGS (or rather it represents what outsiders of the series think MGS is like)...it doesn't help that Revengeance was infected by the pretencious localizer's virus with it meme dialogue that's exclusive to the dub (like Nanomachines son).
Also without spoiling MGS4 and MGS2, but MGR's thing with Raiden embracing "Jack The Ripper" undoes all of Raiden's character development in MGS2/MGS4 and that makes me disregards it even more.
