- When it comes to 4wd touring there is always the possibility that one day something will break and you are going to need some tools. But what tools do you need to carry in your 4wd?
We decided it was time to put together a basic tool kit to get us out of trouble should we need it.
This is what’s in ours :
Sockets, deep sockets, ratchets, extensions and breaker bar. ¼”, 3/8” & ½ “
Ring & open end spanners
Pliers - Needle nose, linesman, side cutters sliding and vice grips
Ball Pein Hammer 16oz
Adjustable spanner - 4" & 10”
Screwdriver Set - 6 Piece
Hex Key Set - Long Arm, Metric/Torx
12” pry bar
Duct tape, zip ties and WD40
Mini Hacksaw - 10"
Tool Bag -12" & tool roll
The main aim was to be able to fix or at least Band-Aid a problem until we can get help. Space and weight was one of the main factors with putting our tool kit together.
If there is something that I have missed or something you think I don’t need in there I would love to hear you thoughts. After all by no means am I a mechanic.
Well I think that is good tool kit , well done 👍👍👍
Do a video of what spare parts you carry role on nicely from the tool video.
ahhh rutherford supercheap is my local.....its nice being on first name basis there!
Supercheap is a magical place hahaha, and Rutherfords is very nice.
Hi guy's me and the missus just got back from 5 weeks on the road. Had the time of our lives. We left perth and headed up north. Stops were kalbarri,Denham,Warroora station,Exmouth,Pt Samson,80 mile beach stay,Broome,Cape leveque. Back down from Broome was Pardoo station 👌,Karijini national park,Tom Price back to Exmouth,Wooramel river retreat,Dongara and finally back to perth.
Our rig was new pajero sports and off road rear fold camper. The pajero sports we have spent a fair bit of $$$$$$ on to make the trip as comfortable as possible. Very similar to your rig which is 👌 bye the way 😁. Anyway the planning of the trip tool wise was very stressful for me. I just didn't know what to take as you don't know what could happen. So i thought i would split it up into categories.
-Trailer
-12 volt
-Tyres
-tool kit
My tool kit was very similar but i threw in 12v impact driver and drill. The impact driver came in handy a few times for trailer stabilizers and some screws.
My 12 volt kit was handy. volts meter, gas soldering iron, wire strippers, electrical tape, connectors, globes, fuses shit so many things in there you just never know.
For tyres was air compressor plug kit, deflators, digital pressure gauge and measuring tape for airbags.
Trailer was spare bearings, grease, studs, wheel nuts, and so on.
I know it was probably a bit over kill but it all fit into a medium size tool box. And it was a good piece of mind knowing i had everything covered. Not only that but i could get other fellow travelers out of trouble if need be.
Anyway i thought i would give you a bit of a run down hope it wasn't to long and i love you vids cheers guys 👍👍👍👍
what could have you gone without?
Throw the whole kit on the bathroom scales. Good to know weight.
The total weight is 13.8 kg for the two
Happy Go Travel very reasonable too. Might just have to look into it. Cheers 👍🏼
It surprised me i thought it would of been a bit heavier.
